Greg dedicated more than 35 years of his life to teaching and coaching, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of many young people. His passion for education and coaching was evident, inspiring his students and athletes to push themselves and reach their full potential. Greg's enthusiasm and dedication to his calling did not diminish in the face of cancer. He persevered in his role, often in spite of his own struggles, for the benefit of others.
The powerlifting program that Greg created at Bradford is a testament to his enduring impact. From humble beginnings with just five lifters, the program flourished, and eventually, the school's weight room was christened in his honor as "Hale's Gym." Greg's achievements as a coach earned him much recognition and accolades, but for him, it was always about the people and the difference he could make in their lives.
Greg's journey with cancer was a valiant one, fighting fiercely for almost 11 years. Thanks to the dedication of Dr. Amir Mortazavi and the staff at James Cancer Center, Greg was given the opportunity to see more grandchildren born and to continue enjoying time with his family and coaching. This battle against cancer was not one he lost – Greg persevered, defying odds, and leaving an indelible mark on this world.
Now, Greg has found rest. As we grieve his passing, let us also celebrate the greatness that was his life. Let us be grateful for the love, strength, and inspiration he offered us, and let his memory live on in our hearts and minds.
As the words of Psalm 23 remind us, "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." May Greg, now at peace and surrounded by the Lord's love, rest eternally in that house.
