Ladies and gentlemen, family and friends, we are gathered here today to celebrate the life of a truly exceptional woman: Mary Alcala. There are some people who, just by being who they are, have the ability to leave a permanent mark on the lives and hearts of those around them – and Mary was one of those people. She was a force of nature, a strong and powerful woman who never failed to leave an impact on everyone she met.
Mary had a heart as big as her personality, and she will forever be remembered as someone who loved deeply and cared fiercely for those in her life. She held her family and friends close, and was proud to call each and every one of them her own.
The Alcala family has been an integral part of the Price family since 1978, when they lived across the street from one another. Right from the start, it was clear that Mary would have a lasting connection with the Price family, particularly with Chaz and Daniel. Mary adamantly gave her love and care to everyone around her, and she played a significant role in the upbringing of these two young men.

They were always welcomed into her home, and she introduced them to true authentic Mexican food – a love that they carried into adulthood. Whenever Mary cooked her famous tamales, Daniel knew he was in for a treat. But Mary’s love extended far beyond just sharing meals with her "adopted" family; she was present for them during some of the most difficult times, including staying with Chaz and Daniel's mother in her final days while Larry went to work.
It's often said that friends are the family we choose, and I am eternally grateful for having had the opportunity to call Mary my family and my friend. When I first met her in 2009, I knew from the start that Mary was special. We instantly formed a bond that went beyond the ordinary limits of friendship – a bond that was forged through laughter, tears, and most importantly of all, through love.
One of the things that I will cherish the most about Mary was her ability to find joy and laughter in even the most mundane moments. I remember the time we went on a cruise together, and she stopped suddenly, arms spread wide, and asked me with awe in her eyes, "Oh my, are we moving?" That moment, and her infectious laughter that followed, will remain with me forever.
Mary's seemingly endless strength, love, and laughter left an indelible mark on everyone who had the honor of knowing her. Her love for life, and for those who shared it with her, was truly a sight to behold.
As we gather here today to say our goodbyes, it's important to remember that Mary's memory and the impact she had on all of us will never fade. We should take solace in the fact that she is now with our Heavenly Father, where she can continue to love and watch over each of us.
As we remember Mary, I’m reminded of the song "Let Go and Let God." And I think that no other song could better encapsulate her faith and her approach to life. I encourage all of us to take the message from this song to heart as we each find our own way to cope with the loss of our dear friend: to let go and let God, for He is in control.
Mary Alcala was, and will always remain, a jewel in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in all of those she touched during her time on Earth.
And so we say, until we meet again, Mary, we will hold you in our hearts and cherish the memories of the time we spent together. Rest in peace, and know that you are loved now and always.
