A fond farewell and a tribute to my loving late spouse Kathleen Janine Knight, a pillar of strength and an unrivaled source of inspiration to me, our children, and anyone who was fortunate enough to make her acquaintance. Today we gather to bid adieu but not goodbye, for the illustrious life she led and the enduring memories she created will forever keep her alive in our hearts.

Kathleen Janine Knight, or Janine as she was endearingly known by all, was born on the 21st of January, 1964 to Sydney and May Lewis. She was raised in the bustling neighborhood of Salt River, alongside her siblings Neil, Sharon, Shane, and Valenice, before moving to Heideveld and later, to Mitchell's Plain.

Her early scholastic years were spent at Cecil Road Primary and Vanguard Drive Primary, shaping her into the gracious and diligent person she was. Janine was resilient, tenacious, and an exemplary woman throughout her life, even in adversity.

As fate would have it, her path crossed with mine at the age of 26, a beautiful twist of destiny set into motion by our mutual friends, Miles and Valenice. We celebrated our union on the 22nd of September, 1990, at St John Bosco Catholic Church, a day indelibly stamped on our hearts.

Our love story was further blessed with two beautiful daughters. Our first miracle, Selina, was born on the 4th January, 1991, and four years later, on the 24th March, 1995, we welcomed our youngest, Kayla Lee. Janine adored their presence, and felt prodigious joy on the arrival of our grandchildren, Mason and Cole, who she doted on abundantly and loved unconditionally.

Gavin and Janine, we were as inseparable as we were passionately in love. Our peculiar squabbles may have seemed bizarre to others, but it was our melodious rhythm, an amusing dance that strengthened our bond as we navigated the journey of life together.

Janine was a beacon of unwavering support—when I was hospitalized earlier this year, her comforting presence manifested as my cornerstone and her devotion was astounding. She extended this support to all who knew her—family, friends, or strangers, she was a tremendous force who uplifted everyone around her.

Her life, though modest and humble, was filled with purpose. Never one to seek reciprocation, she preferred to give rather than receive. To her, the joy of others was her reward and her legacy.

A proud matriarch, she cherished every moment spent with her family. Her face would light up like a thousand suns and her heart brimmed with the pride of a peacock when she narrated tales of her beloved children and grandchildren. Her infectious joy knew no bounds.

Today, we remember a remarkable woman whose essence was pure love—Kathleen Janine Knight. Her life may have ended but her spirit endures, mirroring in the faces of our children and grandkids, resounding in the laughter we once shared, and echoing in the tranquility of her cherished memories.

In our hearts, Janine continues to live, to inspire, and to love. While we mourn her departure, let us celebrate the extraordinary life she lived, her radiant spirit, and the countless blessings she bestowed upon us.

Rest eternally, my beautiful Janine. Your flame flickers within us, forever.
