Mr. Craft was born on August 27, 1943 in Haughton, LA and passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022 in Texarkana, TX. Coming home each day, on your back I'd ride and sway,
You held my hand and scared the monsters away. I'd climb that tree, how do I get down?
With a guiding voice you showed me how.
Swimming in the lake, I got real tired.
Floating on your stomach, oh what a ride.
Your laugh and smile show you truly care.
Sitting on your lap, you stroke my hair. "It's okay you'll find another." "Look how lucky I am, I got your mother." "Run ya'll Daddy's the bull."
"Don't let him get you" that was the rule.
Hug and a kiss every time we met. All those camping trips, are we there yet?
I couldn't pray for one better.
God gave me this gift right down to the letter. "I love you Daddy"

Is there a difference between an obituary and a death notice?

Who writes an obituary?

Obituaries can be written by family members, friends, or the funeral home staff handling the arrangements. Newspapers may also have staff writers who assist in writing or editing obituaries.

How long after a death is an obituary published?

Obituaries are generally published as soon as possible after a death, often within a few days to a week, to ensure that the information is timely for funeral services and allows people to pay their respects.

Can anyone submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Yes, most newspapers allow anyone to submit an obituary, but there are typically procedures and fees associated with publication. It's important to contact the newspaper directly to understand their particular process.

Is there a standard length for an obituary?

There is no standard length for an obituary as it can vary depending on how much the family or author wishes to share, as well as the newspaper's guidelines or space limitations and associated costs for longer pieces.

What should be avoided when writing an obituary?

When writing an obituary, it's generally suggested to avoid overly personal or sensitive information, incorrect facts, and anything that might be considered disrespectful to the deceased or the family.

Are obituaries posted online?

How can I write a respectful obituary?

To write a respectful obituary, focus on celebrating the life of the deceased, be accurate and truthful, and be mindful of the feelings of all who are grieving. You may want to highlight the positive aspects and impactful moments of the deceased's life.

What is the cost to publish an obituary?

The cost to publish an obituary can vary widely depending on the newspaper or platform and the length of the obituary. Some newspapers charge by line or word count, while others offer packages at fixed rates.

Can I include a photo in an obituary?

What if I make a mistake in an obituary?

If a mistake is made in an obituary, you should contact the newspaper or website to correct the information as soon as possible. Most publications will be understanding and can quickly amend the online version and include a correction in the next print issue.

How do obituaries serve the community?

Obituaries serve the community by informing individuals of a local resident's passing, providing details on services to attend, and inviting the community to come together in mourning and support for the family.

Is it appropriate to mention a cause of death in an obituary?

Including the cause of death is a personal choice. It can be mentioned if the family is comfortable sharing this information, but it is not required or expected if they prefer to keep it private.

How do I address survivors and predeceased family members?

In mentioning survivors and predeceased family members, it's common to include the closest relatives in descending order of relation to the deceased, such as the spouse, children, grandchildren, siblings, and parents. Always use care to ensure that significant people are not inadvertently omitted.

Is it possible to write an obituary for someone without any family?

Yes, obituaries can be written for individuals who may not have living family members. Friends, community members, or social workers often take on the role of composing the obituary in such circumstances.

How can an obituary reflect the personality of the deceased?

An obituary can reflect the personality of the deceased through the inclusion of anecdotes, special interests, hobbies, or characteristic phrases that capture the essence of the individual. It may also reflect their values by mentioning charitable causes they supported or achievements in their personal or professional life.

Can I share an obituary on social media?

Yes, it's common to share obituaries on social media platforms to inform wider circles of friends, colleagues, and acquaintances who might not otherwise have access to the information. This also allows for an interactive space where people can share memories and condolences.

Should childhood or early life be included in an obituary?

Including information about the deceased's early life often provides a fuller picture of their journey and background. However, the level of detail is at the discretion of the family or writer and can depend on space limitations and the relevance of the information to the person's later life.

What are some tips for writing a meaningful obituary?

To write a meaningful obituary, gather detailed information about the life of the deceased, consider consulting family members for important memories and achievements, stay authentic to the tone that best represents the deceased, and be sure to proofread thoroughly to avoid errors.
