Steven was a fascinating person with an array of interests and passions. Food was a big part of his life, and he loved to experiment with new and unusual combinations. His willingness to try anything and give it a name, like "The Sissom Sandwich," is a testament to his adventurous spirit. He had a deep love for animals, and his tender spot for them speaks to his compassionate nature.
One of Steven's standout qualities was his storytelling ability, which he seemed to enjoy sharing with anyone who would listen. Though his tales sometimes blurred the line between truth and fable, they must have been a great source of entertainment for those around him. He had a way of drawing people in with his words and keeping them engaged until the very end.
Steven's love for those close to him was expressed through his playful teasing and joking around. He had a big heart and cared deeply for others. His love for wrestling was an everyday affair. He attended countless matches, perfected the moves in the living room with his girls, and with his oldest daughters middle name commemorating his favorite wrestler. His fishing hobby, which he seemed to enjoy both on the bank and in the water, he found ways to connect with those around him.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Carolyn Sissom of Springhill, LA; two daughters, Tonya Renee Lawrence and husband Sheldon of Cabot, AR, Stephanie Nicole Sissom and fiancé Bryan of North Little Rock, AR; granddaughter, Ellis Joyce Lawrence of Cabot, AR; two grandsons, Jasper Lee Fink of North Little Rock, AR, Olson Bahr Lawrence of Cabot, AR; brother, Robert Dale Sissom and wife Teresa of Springhill, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Mr. Sissom was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Cynthia Hufstetler.
Steven's life was full of colorful experiences and memories. Though his passing is undoubtedly a difficult loss, it's clear that he left a lasting impression on those he met. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Sign our online guest book at www.baileyfuneralhome.net Bailey Funeral Home Springhill, LA 318-539-3555

He adored his grandchildren, Brody Davis, CJ Davis, Trinity Davis, Jade Camp, Brinleigh Steward, Bentley Steward, Bayleigh Steward, Blakeleigh "BB" Steward & Sybil Evans, his great-grandson, Jensen Wright-Camp, and his wonderful sons-in-law. His love for them knew no bounds, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

He had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and loved history - he could give you a lesson at the drop of a dime. His fascination with aircraft history and things that went fast were unparalleled. But above all else, Ernie found immense joy in being "Papaw" to his babies and "Daddy" to his girls. His love extended even further to include Pip -his beloved puppy dog.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the wonderful staff at the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center in Shreveport for their kindness towards Ernie during such trying times. The care they provided meant everything to him.  Additionally, thanks are owed to the Ochsner LSU MICU staff for their quality care during such difficult moments. To those who poured love into Ernie's life over the years, making him smile through it all - your efforts will never be forgotten. Ernie fought hard until the very end - he is our hero!
His absence leaves an irreplaceable void, but we take solace in knowing that Ernest Carol Camp's memory will live on forever within each person whose lives he touched so deeply. Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a notice of a person’s death, typically published in newspapers and online platforms. It usually contains a brief account of the deceased person's life, information about the upcoming funeral or memorial service, and can include a message of remembrance or a celebration of life.

Why is an obituary important?

Obituaries serve several purposes. They inform the community of someone's passing, honor the life of the deceased, and provide details about the service arrangements. They also create a historical record and can be a source of comfort for loved ones and friends by acknowledging their loss and celebrating the significance of the life lived.

Who usually writes an obituary?

Obituaries are commonly written by immediate family members or close friends. In some cases, people choose to write their own obituary before they pass away. Alternatively, a funeral director or a professional writer can also be commissioned to write an obituary.

What should be included in an obituary?

An obituary should include the full name of the deceased, age, date of death, and place of passing. It's also common to include a list of surviving family members, a brief summary of life achievements, time and place for the funeral or memorial service, and any preferred charities for memorial contributions.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary widely. Some may be brief, just conveying essential information, while others may offer a more detailed tribute to the deceased's life. The length can also depend on the publication's space limitations or the family's preference.

Is there a difference between an obituary and a death notice?

Yes. A death notice is a shorter, more straightforward announcement of someone's death, typically written by the funeral home and includes basic details about the service arrangements. An obituary is more detailed and personalized, often including biographical information and personal sentiments.

Can an obituary be published online?

Absolutely. Many obituaries are now published online on various platforms, including funeral homes' websites, social media, and online memorials. Online obituaries can be shared easily, allowing for a broader reach to friends and family who may live far away.

What is the cost of publishing an obituary?

The cost to publish an obituary can vary significantly depending on the publication and its length. Newspaper rates often depend on word count or column inches, while many online platforms offer free or low-cost options.

How quickly should an obituary be published after death?

Typically, an obituary should be published as soon as the funeral arrangements have been made but before the service occurs. This allows those who want to attend services to plan accordingly.

Is it necessary to include a cause of death in an obituary?

No, it is not necessary to include the cause of death in an obituary. The inclusion of this information is a personal choice and some families prefer to keep it private.

Can I mention charitable donations in an obituary?

Yes, it is common to include information about preferred charities for memorial contributions in lieu of flowers. This honors the deceased's memory and can guide friends and family in offering a tribute.

What should you avoid including in an obituary?

To protect the privacy and safety of the family, it is advisable to avoid including sensitive personal information such as the deceased's home address, mother's maiden name, or financial details.

How do you close an obituary?

An obituary is often closed with a final sentiment or thank you message from the family. This can include expressions of gratitude to care providers or hospice staff, final words of remembrance, or a comforting quote or poem.

Is a photograph necessary in an obituary?

While not necessary, including a photograph is a common practice. A recent or favorite photo of the deceased can add a personal touch to the obituary and help readers recognize the individual being memorialized.

Can family members be omitted from an obituary?

Family members can be omitted from an obituary at the discretion of those writing it. Reasons for exclusion can be personal or based on the wishes of the deceased. It's important for families to come to a decision collaboratively to avoid potential conflicts.

How do you acknowledge complex family situations in an obituary?

In complex family situations, it's usually best to use inclusive language and focus on relationships rather than legalities. For example, referring to "step" or "adoptive" relationships may not be necessary unless it was particularly significant to the deceased.

How can an obituary reflect the personality of the deceased?

An obituary can reflect the deceased's personality by including anecdotes, mentioning hobbies or interests, and using language or expressions the individual was known for. This makes the tribute more personal and relatable to those who knew them.

Are there cultural considerations to be aware of when writing an obituary?

Cultural considerations can significantly influence the content and structure of an obituary. Different cultures have unique traditions and etiquette regarding death notices, and it is important to be sensitive to these practices out of respect for the deceased and their family.

How can I ensure accuracy in an obituary?

To ensure accuracy, double-check all factual information with multiple sources, review dates and names with family members, and consider having someone else read the obituary before it is published to catch any errors.

What should be the tone of an obituary?

The tone of an obituary should be respectful and reflective of the deceased's life and impact. The wording can range from formal and reverent to more informal and celebratory, depending on the wishes of the family and the personality of the person being honored.

Can an obituary be updated or corrected after publication?

While print publications may not be able to alter an obituary after it has gone to print, online obituaries can often be updated or corrected. If there is a significant error, the family can contact the publication to discuss possible corrections or publish an erratum.

What should one do if they cannot afford an obituary?

If cost is a concern, consider free online platforms or social media to share the news of the loved one's passing. Some community bulletins or church newsletters may also publish obituaries at little or no cost.
