Maria Rivera - September 03, 1960 - March 06, 2024

Departed: 03/06/2024 (Philadelphia)
Obituary Preview: Bernadette “Bunny” Dandy was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 25, 1952 to Minnie Johnson and Sebron Dandy, Sr., both of whom preceded her in death at a very young age.  Bunny was reared and nurtured by her beloved aunt, Ruth “Aunt Bay” Barksdale, who also preceded her in death.  She was educated in the School District of Philadelphia, and attended Strawberry Mansion Jr. High School, Simon Gratz High School, and Palmer Business School.
Bunny spent her formative years around the neighborhood of 30th and Norris, and she proudly let anyone know (even if she has told you many times before) that those were her stomping grounds.  It was there that she met her first love Terrance “Terry” Berrian, who passed away shortly after the birth of their daughter Sonora.  Bunny later united in love with Willie Marvin Brezeal, and birthed their son Marvin Jr.
Bunny had numerous jobs in her time.  She was a long time member of the Service Employees International Union, Local 32BJ, and she finished her working days at PennDOT as a Photo License Technician.
Bunny lived for her family and her friends, and she never missed an opportunity to spend time with or to talk to her loved ones.  She was a source of wise and measured advice. She was kind to a fault and no interaction with her was complete unless she gave you a heartfelt compliment on your hair, your wardrobe or offered some encouraging words to comfort you.  Bunny made you the center of her attention. If you had the pleasure of talking to her she made it feel that she was really seeing you in that moment.  This kindness was extended to strangers and she was known to stop a person in passing to say something nice, or to lessen the burden for those who were tasked to take care of her needs.  The word “no” was missing from her vocabulary.  If there was even the hint of a want or a need, she would not hesitate to help, and she would not stop until she was absolutely convinced that everything was fine.  Although she was small in physical stature, she had the strength and the presence of a giant, and she was fiercely protective of her loved ones.
Bunny had a wonderful sense of humor. She had a beautiful and powerful laugh, and she never took herself too seriously. Music was a big part of her life.  She was a fan of everything from jazz standards, to the Philly Sound, to Motown, and beyond.  Her favorite artists included Frankie Beverly and Maze, Steely Dan,  John Coltrane, and Dionne Warwick.  It was these sounds that made her get up and dance, clap her hands and sing along.  She did this whether she had a dance partner or not, but it was hard to turn down an invitation to dance with her. She might not have said that cooking was her passion, but the food that she prepared nourished many bodies and many souls.  She was often recruited to prepare her delicious dishes for countless events.  When she did show up, she showed up in style, and she always looked beautiful.  She was never interested in trends or the latest fads.  Bunny was classic. She was an avid “vintage” shopper long before that became as popular as it is now. She knew quality and she knew what would endure.
Bernadette was always a faithful and spiritual person. She formalized her commitment to Christ and was baptized at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.  The church was a second family to her, and she loved being a part of that community.  Her Bible was never too far from her reach.  Though she did not quote much scripture, she embodied the Word.  She was good for the sake of being good, and she was a quiet example of how to walk in Christ.
Bernadette departed this life on February 5, 2024, after a very long and bravely fought illness.  She will be missed for her boundless love, her strength, her beautiful spirit, and her unique style.  Bernadette’s brothers Benjamin and Sebron Jr. preceded her in death.  She leaves to mourn her two children Sonora (Dwayne preceded in death) and Marvin; one bonus son Terrance; four grandchildren Kenneth (preceded in death), Khalif, Tyshonny and Dashaun; five great grandchildren Tyiana, Kamren, Kamari, K’Shon and Kayani; her best friend and confidante Willie Brezeal; nieces Malkia and Sherrell; nephew Sebron III (Chrishante); sister in love Judith; brother in love Ruben; best girl friends Erma and Bert; and a host of cousins and close friends.

Departed: 01/31/2024 (Philadelphia)
Obituary Preview: There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. Ecclesiastes 3:1 A Time to be Born
On May 23, 1970, the late Grady and Lorraine Stephens gave birth to their first bundle of joy - CRAIG MARK STEPHENS at Lankenau Hospital in Lower Merion, PA.  He was born in Lower Merion, PA as the oldest of three sons.  He was preceded in death by his parents Grady and Lorraine. A Time to be Educated
Craig began his education in the Philadelphia School System attending Henry H. Houston Elementary, before transferring to Holy Angel’s Catholic School.  His educational pursuits continued at Bishop McDevitt High School, where he actively participated in the Marching Band and Show Orchestra as a trombone player. Demonstrating both scholarly excellence and remarkable commitment, Craig maintained perfect attendance throughout his 12 years of schooling, culminating in his graduation with pride as part of the class of 1988. Continuing his academic endeavors, Craig pursued further education at Montgomery Community College, focusing on the study of Commercial Art. A Time to be Spiritual
Craig embraced Christianity at a young age within the Southern Baptist Church, led by the late Pastor Isaiah Pelzer, Jr.  Despite not often vocalizing his faith, he approached life with steadfast confidence, deeply influenced by his spiritual foundation. Within his room today, several Post-it notes adorned with uplifting phrases and Bible verses can be found, with one notable inscription: "The Lord will make good things come from bad’ (Romans 8:28 NIV). A Time for Work
Guided by the belief that work should be enjoyable, Craig pursued a career in various industries over the years. His most recent position was as an associate at LEGO Land in the Plymouth Meeting Mall. A Time for Family
Craig, as the elder brother, played a pivotal role in introducing the latest trends in music, sneakers, and arts to those around him. With a free-spirited nature, he was inseparable from his companions, Kevin, and Derrick, collectively known to their parents as the dynamic trio – the 3 Musketeers.
A decade ago, Craig embraced fatherhood with pride when Devon entered his life. This baby boy quickly became Craig's world and was affectionately referred to as his sidekick, lovingly nicknamed "Lil Nugget." Much like Craig did with his younger brothers, he immersed Devon in the world of art through activities like constructing LEGO sets, assembling model cars, and collecting figurines. Many nights were spent bonding over the latest video games.
Devon, inspired by his father's influence, is now following in his footsteps. He excels academically, achieving honor roll status, and is building an impressive sneaker collection, continuing the legacy Craig established within the family. A Time for Memories
Craig leaves to cherish his legacy, his son - Devon Magwood: two Brothers – Kevin, and Derrick; one sister-in-love Nayjuana; two nephews Derrick Jr. and Christopher; two nieces, Krisalyn, and Amora; two uncles David Odom and James Odom; four aunts Barbara Pelzer, Gladys Odom, Gloria Odom, and Rose Odom; and a host of cousins and friends.

Ellen was one of three siblings and a cousin who joined her father working at Fischer & Porter Instrumentation Company.  While there, she wanted to purchase her first car which was a purple Mustang.  Her Dad insisted she save money for her down payment.  This frustrated Ellen as she had to give Dad money weekly.  When she was ready to look at cars and make a decision, Dad gave her the money for the down payment that she unknowingly saved.  She was so happy to drive that car around but, she had to adjust the height of the seat by adding two telephone books so she could see over the steering wheel.
She was a great animal lover and trainer.  Her dogs were named:  Teddy Bear and Smokey. Her cats were named:  Chubby, Queenie, and her parakeet was named, Penny.
Chubby and Queenie’s mother chose Ellen because she would feed her.  Then she brought her two kittens and Ellen fed them also.  The mother cat knew Ellen would take over and she left them in good hands.
Ellen’s activities consisted of:  Roller Skating, she was a superb artist with her drawings, sketches and wall hangings made by hand.  Ellen used to look after her two younger siblings when their Mom was out doing errands.  She was quite creative in her plans to keep them occupied.  We climbed over the pipes in the basement and played camping out.
After her older sister, Wilma, passed away, Ellen had a hand in raising her nephew, Samuel and niece Margaret.
Ellen desired more out of life and enlisted in the U.S. Army.  While enlisted, she was stationed in Germany.  She left Germany and went to visit her sister and brother-in-law in Oahu, Hawaii and ended up staying longer than they did.  While living in Hawaii, Ellen worked in a Doctor’s Office doing Front Office duties.  She left the island of Oahu in 1991.
Employed at the Carney Healthcare Staffing Inc., for several years Ellen helped people understand the inner workings of Medicaid and Medicare so that they could make the best decisions for their lives.
Although she had two previous marriages, she found the love of her life in Clyde Purnell so three times is a charm.  She married Clyde Purnell Feb 28, 1996 in Germantown, PA - Mt. Airy. Their service was conducted by Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Sr. Their marriage lasted over 30 years. They were each other’s everything!
Ellen leaves behind her husband - the love of her life, Clyde Purnell, her sister, Paulette (Wilson) Howard (Gerald), her brother, Blair Wilson, Sr., (Deidra).  Step daughter, Paula Pinkett and Step Grandchildren: Tyaire & Akilah Wood, Angel Pinkett, Step mother Thelma Blake and Step Siblings:  Bobby (who preceded her in death), Pamela, and Lois.  Nephews: Michael Wilson, Samuel Wilson, Blair Wilson, Jr., Kelly Howard (who preceded her in death), Karlton and Kamaron Howard.  Nieces:  Jackie and Lenore (who preceded her in death), Margaret Brennan (Jeffrey), Markiesha Wilson, Kiana Wilson and a host of cousins from coast-to-coast, great nephews, great nieces and friends who shared her life.

Nancy J Lindsay - August 01, 1937 - February 10, 2023

Departed: 02/10/2023 (Philadelphia)
Obituary Preview: Nancy J. Lindsay, born Nancy Jane Pierce, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at the age of 85 in Abington Hospital after a brief battle with CLL a treatable form of Leukemia.
She was born on August 1, 1937, in Ambler, PA. to Nannie and Zebedee Pierce, the second of three children. Nancy was very proud of the fact that she landed a job at the Internal Revenue Service not long after graduating from High School. She always said she admired the secretaries in the movies that took shorthand and typed letters for the executives and knew she wanted to work in town and perform those same skills to which she excelled.
The job also allowed for her at the age of 21 to purchase a home in North Hills for herself, her mother and sister, Delores (Dee/Aunt Knuckie). This is something that gave her a great deal of satisfaction, even thinking about it later in life.
Nancy was highly intelligent, great at Math. She loved to figure out her finances, being a whiz at living above her means, yet within her budget. Protecting her good credit right up until the end. Having an active social life was never something that she craved, nor did she gravitate to a particular hobby. What she dedicated her life to was being a loving, supportive and involved Mother.
Nancy gave birth to 5 children, Lauren deLisa Coleman from her first marriage to Laurence "Pratt" Coleman and LeAnne Roberta Lindsay, LeVonne Delores Lindsay, Alyssa Joanne Lindsay and Adam Pierce Lindsay from her second marriage to Joseph Milton Lindsay. We thank her for constantly being a full-time mom - "Mommy". She always made certain we never went without, not only necessities, but other indulgences we set our sights on or planning summer vacations, and fun day trips, always giving us the space to just be kids and then later lending support in our adult endeavors. She believed in celebrating all the holidays and never stopped wanting to give Christmas and birthday gifts. She also enjoyed shopping for her grandson Adam Jr. and his siblings Eva and Aidan, loving being called Nan-nan.
On top of it all, Nancy Lindsay was so strong and a woman of sincere faith, reading her Bible daily all our lives. She survived and came back from a stroke, two other forms of cancer and the loss of her youngest daughter. Then at 85 was still willing to go through difficult treatments to continue her life, because she was still enjoying having her family around her and knew continued prayers and belief would help her live another day. We take comfort in knowing her soul now joyfully abounds with the Lord, free from all physical limitations. Graveside Service Fairview Cemetery, 1511 Twining Road Willow Grove, Pennsylvania 19090
