Robert, better known to his grandkids as “Papaw” was an individual who loved many things including: fishing, playing dominos, watching sports, gardening and hunting.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother Donald Smith.
Robert is survived by his wife Linda Smith, of Paducah, TX, children; Debra Daniel (Tim) of Childress, TX, Marty Smith (Abbie) of Paducah, TX and James Smith of Wolfforth, TX, sister, Donna Braley of Burlison, TX, eleven grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday April 20, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Paducah, TX with Kyle Roach officiating under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service at the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: On Tuesday, February 8, 2022, Verna Earl (V.E.) Birkhead went to be with his Lord and Savior. He was a member of Missionary Baptist Church, Paducah, Tx.
“Sonny” was born on June 25, 1931, in Swearingen, Texas, to Walter J. and Annie May Birkhead.  He attended school at Broadmoor School in Cottle County and Paducah Schools and quit to labor on the family farm.  He had an older sister Myrtle Ruth, younger sisters Ruby, and Mary Etta. He was in the Marine Corps from 1949 until 1952.  He married Willie Mae Whittington on March 3, 1951, in Paducah, Texas.  Out of their union they had two daughters, Barbara and Carolyn, and a son, Dennis.
Verna worked at the Texaco for the Archer’s for years, then began working at Texas Department of Transportation for 34 years, he retired in 1993.  He enjoyed working on his farm and with his cows for many years.
After the death of his wife Willie May, Verna then married Esta Mae Bryant.  He is survived by his wife of 27 years, two sisters Ruby Tucker of Odessa, and Mary Etta Smith and Donald of Crowley, Tx., a daughter Carolyn Slover and husband Donnie of Paducah, a son Dennis Birkhead and wife Andrea of Amarillo.  Four stepsons, Troy Bryant and wife Debbie of Arlington, Tx., John Bryant and wife Debbie of Jacksonville, Tx, Robert Bryant of Levelland, Tx, and George Bryant and wife Kay of Vernon, Tx. A stepdaughter Carmen Holley of Paducah. A special great grandson Jacob Lecroy that helped care for him, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, in which they all called him “PePa”, nieces and nephews.
Verna was preceded in death by his father Walter J. Birkhead, and mother, Annie Birkhead, a baby sister Unita Birkhead, a sister Myrtle Ruth Boyette, a brother-in-law Carroll Tucker, of Odessa, a daughter Barbara Davis, a granddaughter Stacie Davis, son in law Jimmy Davis, and a step-son-in law Regan Holley.

She loved sewing and reading her bible along with other religious books. She was a fan of the Texas Rangers baseball team. Matilde loved going to the casino.

Obituary Preview: Nora Jeanne Deaton, 94, passed from this life on November 30, 2021 in Gainesville, TX.
Nora was born on November 5, 1927 in Greenville, TX to Wilbur and Margaret Ann Summers.  She graduated from East Texas State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science Degree.  She worked in the Texas school system for 35 years.  The majority of that time was spent as an elementary teacher in Paducah. Nora married George Vestal Deaton on June 15, 1950 in Greenville, TX.  From this union they had one child Rusty. After retirement, she and George enjoyed many years of traveling and spending their summers in Ruidoso, NM.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son Rusty Deaton and wife Tammy of Lake Kiowa, TX, granddaughters Kaitlyn Deaton of New Braunfels, TX and Kristyn Deaton of Plainview, TX, along with extended family members and friends.
A graveside service for Nora Deaton will be held on Friday December 3, 2021, 10:00 am, at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Paducah, TX with Tim Moore officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home of Paducah.

She was born to Bill and Essie Murray on May 15, 1936. She was married to her high school Sweetheart, Charles Norman Havins on June 21, 1954. They had 3 children, Christy, Kerry and Brent.
Vera was a wonderful wife and mother and helped Charles on their farm as well as sewing for her children and a great cook. She attended and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Paducah for over 60 years and taught her children to love the Lord as well.
Vera was preceded in death by parents, her husband Charles and son Brent.
She is survived by her daughter Christy Chaney, Son in-law Doyle Chaney, son Kerry, daughter in-law Rhonda, 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, one sister, Billie Jean Tobias of Mesquite, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation is scheduled for Saturday October 23, 2021, prior to service from 11:00AM to 12:00PM at Zapata Funeral Home Chapel in Paducah, TX.
A graveside service is scheduled at 2:00PM on Saturday October 23, 2021, at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Paducah, TX , officiant is Kyle Roach, services are under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home.

Obituary Preview: Leota Mozelle Maxfield of Paducah, TX went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at the age of 100. She was born on July 14, 1921, in Paducah, TX to Ira Allen and Maggie Bearden Brooks. Leota attended school in Paducah and graduated from Paducah High School in 1939. After graduating high school, she married the love of her life Robert C. Maxfield. They were married on July 8, 1939, in the First Baptist Church pastorage in Paducah, TX. Upon this union two children were born, Phyliss and Jimmy “Butch”.
Leota was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Paducah, TX until her health declined. She attended Sunday school and enjoyed working in the nursery. Leota loved visiting and working with the homebound of the church. She was also a member of the Delwin Club and served on the funeral committee preparing and serving funeral meals.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Phyllis Maxfield Jones, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents Ira and Maggie, one son Jimmy “Butch” Maxfield, two brothers Irless Allen Brooks and Terry Dean Brooks, her son-in-law Alton Jones, and her granddaughter Daisha Jones.

Obituary Preview: Brenda Gail Cowart Fell Johnson, age 77, died early Thursday morning, September 30, 2021, at University Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born March 26, 1944, in Paducah, TX, to Ben and Geneva Cowart. Brenda was a 1962 graduate of Paducah High School and attended West Texas State University for two years. She married Orin George ‘Corky’ Fell February 8, 1964 in Canyon, TX. Brenda and Corky had three children who were the highlight of her life: Vincent Fell, Noel Fell, and Lacy Fell McLemore. We are still trying to figure out who her favorite was. Brenda was an active member of the Paducah Church of Christ for many years, a member of the Paducah School Board, and an active member of her community. She helped Corky with Fell Spraying Service. He did the flying; she did everything else. Without her, the business would have crashed, no pun intended. Brenda also loved to fly, receiving her pilot’s license in 1974. She loved her life in Paducah. Corky preceded her in death on January 2, 2000. She married David Eugene Johnson on November 23, 2001. Their marriage took them to several towns in Texas and finally back to Lubbock where she was an active member at the Southside Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband, David Johnson, three children and their spouses, Vincent and Donnice Fell of Lubbock, TX; Noel and Penny Fell of Weatherford, TX; Keith and Lacy Fell McLemore of Buda, TX; two stepchildren, Brendon and Sarah Johnson of Albuquerque, NM; Scott and Amanda Johnson Free of Belgrade, MT.; and seventeen grandchildren.

Obituary Preview: Bobbie Jo Walters passed away peacefully at the Royal Oaks Care Center in Kewanee Illinois at the age of 87 on Monday, 6 Sept. 2021. Graveside services will be held at the Paducah Cemetery in Paducah, Texas on September 13, at 1:00 PM. Visitation will take place at the Zapata Funeral Home located at 904 North 13th Street in Paducah, Texas from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM on 13 September. Bobbie Jo Walters was born on December 4, 1933 in Paducah, Texas to John Eldredge and Adelia Burton Isbell.  She was married to Ernest J. Grisham in 1948 and together had one son, Ernest E. (Skip) Grisham. After her husband’s death she married Stanley Walters of Glendale Arizona in 1975 and later settled in Carthage Missouri until her husband’s death in 1988. Bobbie Jo was a certified public accountant and moved to Chicago to be near her only son, Skip. After a successful accounting career in Chicago, she moved to Bradford Illinois and started her own Tax Preparation business. Bobbie loved to socialize with area residents while meeting new people and was known throughout the area as an expert on personal and business tax accounting. She was an avid Bridge Player and volunteered at the local library to teach Bridge and enjoyed attending fashion shows and staged productions in Chicago with her son Skip.  She loved gardening and always kept an immaculate garden full of beautiful flowers and shrubs at her home. Bobbie was a caring and loving person who was quick to make friends and was a great listener. While Bobbie had only one son, she loved all of her many nephews and nieces and often dreamed of returning to Texas to be closer to family. She was the last survivor of seven siblings and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest J. Grisham, and her second husband Stanley A. Walters, her one son Ernest E. (Skip) Grisham, her father and mother John E. and Adelia Burton Isbell and her brothers Jack Isbell, Lynn Isbell, William Isbell, James Isbell, and her sisters Lena Mae Ramsey and Lymoin Gipson.
She is survived by her nephews and nieces Wendell Isbell of Ulysses Kansas, Carol Reece of Ryan Oklahoma, Rayland Gipson of Lubbock Tx. Velda Coley of Levelland Tx., Ray Ramsey of California, Debbie Nolan of Benjamin Tx., Carlette Vistine of Azle Tx., Jimmy Isbell of White River Tx., Johnny Isbell of Lubbock Tx., and Jeannette Turner of Lubbock Texas, and many Great Nephews, Great Nieces, and extended family.

Obituary Preview: Vicinte F. Quintero passed in peace with his family by his side, August 28, 2021.  He was born April 30, 1948, in Crowell, Texas to Martin and Petra Quintero.  Vicinte married the love of his life Guadalupe Quintero on September 4, 1970, in Childress, Texas.  Vicinte is a veteran of the United States Air Force and served our country from 1968 to 1975.  Vicinte and his wife have ten children Clifford James, Ruby and Michael Branch, Indiana and Charles Packard, Martin and Joy Quintero, Vicinte Jr. and Shirley Quintero, Reno and Briana Quintero, Melissa and Jerry Finch, Joni and Willie Howard, Heidi Quintero, and Hunter Henry. He is also survived by several grandbabies and great grandbabies.  He has several nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Mr. Quintero had nine siblings, two of which have gone on to prepare a home before him, Lisa Packard and Raymond Quintero.  Still with us today are Mary and Dexter Daniel, Martin and Ina Quintero, Mary Ann and Billy Noah, Ramiro and Susan Quintero, Glen and Denise Quintero, and Paul and Kim Quintero.
He is preceded in death by his wife Guadalupe Quintero, his son Anthony Quintero, his parents Martin and Petra Quintero, and his daughter-in-law Shirley Quintero.
Pallbearers are Charles Packard, Willie Howard, Jerry Finch, Coby Dobbins, Landry Packard, Cameron Howard, and serving as honorary pallbearer is Gabriel Quintero.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 1 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Zapata Funeral Home in Paducah. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 2 at 10:30 a.m. at Garden of Memories Cemetery with Leon Deutsch officiating.

Obituary Preview: Patsy Anderson Smith was born January 6, 1943, and graduated from Paducah High School in 1961.  She married Donald Smith on June 8, 1961 and they had two children, Donald Todd Smith born June 1, 1962 and Jay Darryl Smith born on October 13, 1963.  Patsy was a homemaker and mother and helped Donald farm and ranch until 1983.  Patsy was the manager of the Dairy Queen in Paducah until 1988, when she took a job with the Paducah Housing Authority as a secretary.  She continued in this job until 1998, when she became the administrator of the Paducah Housing Authority, a job which she continued until 2021.
Donald and Patsy will be remembered as loving devoted parents and grandparents by their children Donald Todd Smith and Jay Darryl Smith, grandchildren Amanda, Jason and Kirston, and Magen, Crystal and Nathan as well as 6 great grandchildren, by whom they are survived.

Donald Eugene Smith - December 04, 1935 - August 19, 2021

Obituary Preview: Donald was born on Dec. 4, 1935.  Donald graduated Paducah High School in 1954, and his class went to the 1954 state football championship game.  Donald went on to attend and play football at Sul Ross College in Alpine, TX for two years, before joining the US Army.  He continued playing football in the Army, among his other duties, and after four years he returned to Paducah and married Patsy Anderson.   They were married on June 8, 1961 and Donald started farming cotton and wheat.  Donald also had cattle and he continued farming and ranching until he started working for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.  Donald worked for TDCJ for ten years and also worked for Cottle County, while continuing to farm and ranch for sixty years!  Donald also worked for Dennis Cross.  Donald was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Midway Church and the Missionary Baptist Church of Paducah.  He was also a 32nd Mason of the Masonic Lodge of Paducah.

Obituary Preview: Arvis Davis, 93, of Paducah, TX passed away on Monday July 26, 2021. He was born on March 26, 1928 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Tullis and Mada (Smith) Davis. Arvis attended school and completed Clarendon Jr. College in Clarendon, TX. He married Jo Anne Blackwell on August 13, 1948 in Clarendon, TX. Arvis later moved his family to Paducah, TX in 1962 where he started Arvis Davis Chevrolet House and worked there until his retirement in 2020. Arvis was very proud that in 2003 the Arvis Davis Chevrolet House was ranked #2 in the nation for customer service.
His wife of 58 years, Jo Anne, passed away in July of 2006. Arvis later married Janis Lawrence in Childress, TX on August 11, 2017. Arvis was a member of the Lions Club, First United Methodist Church of Paducah and Childress. He served as board President for Paducah ISD as well as board President for the bank board.
Arvis was preceded in death by his parents and wife Jo Anne. He is survived by his wife Janis Davis, daughter, Tracy Prater and husband W.E. Prater, MD of Breckenridge, step daughter, Julie Barber and husband Jeff Barber of Amarillo, Grandchildren; Megan Prater and Jacob White of Watauga, Will Prater and Caitlin Gibson of Richmond, VA, Step Grandchildren; Emily Barber and Addison Barber of Amarillo, Great Grandchildren; Holen and Hayden White of Watauga, Collin and Porter Barber of Amarillo
Funeral services will be held  10:00 AM Thursday July 29, 2021 at First United Methodist Church in Paducah, TX followed by interment at the Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home.

Obituary Preview: Annie Pearl Richardson 78,was born to the late Samson Harris and Hazel Brooks on July 3,1943 in Oklahoma. She departed this earthly life on Saturday, July 24, 2021. She received Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev. Eli Cooper of Antioch Baptist Church in Paducah, TX. Annie remained a faithful member of Antioch under the leadership of her son ,Bobby Evans, until the time of her death. She served in numerous roles during that time to include: Mother of the church, mission leader,
secretary, usher , and was an active member of the choir.
Annie led an active life. Outside of her church activates, she could always be found supporting her many grandchildren at one of their sporting events. Spending quality time with family ( especially the grand-babies) and friends, brought her the most joy. It was her generous nature and loving heart that made her beloved by all.
Annie was preceded in death by her father Samson Harris, mother Hazel Harris, sons Johnny Harris and Anthony Evans and daughters Leslie and Fletha Richardson.
Annie leaves to cherish her memories: sons Bobby Evans (Angie), Michael Evans ( Racquel), and Eric Richardson; Daughters Joyce Evans ( Chris), Inga Evans ( John), and Brenda Richardson; 4 sisters,1 brother and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Nora was born on November 5, 1927 in Greenville, TX to Wilbur and Margaret Ann Summers.  She graduated from East Texas State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science Degree.  She worked in the Texas school system for 35 years.  The majority of that time was spent as an elementary teacher in Paducah. Nora married George Vestal Deaton on June 15, 1950 in Greenville, TX.  From this union they had one child Rusty. After retirement, she and George enjoyed many years of traveling and spending their summers in Ruidoso, NM.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son Rusty Deaton and wife Tammy of Lake Kiowa, TX, granddaughters Kaitlyn Deaton of New Braunfels, TX and Kristyn Deaton of Plainview, TX, along with extended family members and friends.
A graveside service for Nora Deaton will be held on Friday December 3, 2021, 10:00 am, at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Paducah, TX with Tim Moore officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home of Paducah.

James was born in Grow, TX on September 20, 1934 to H.E (Homer) and Beulah (Ratliff) Long.  James attended elementary school in Grow and Junction, TX, later returned to Paducah as a freshman.  He graduated with the class of 1952.
After graduation, James worked on the family farm until he was drafted into the army in 1957. After basic training, he married Gayle Whatley on June 27,1957. They moved to San Antonio where he was stationed at Fort Sam Houston.
James and Gayle moved to the Finney community in 1960 to settle in and raise a family. James enjoyed the farm life growing cotton, raising cattle and a bountiful garden every year. He took pride in his clean fields and very straight rows. James joined the American Agricultural movement in 1977. He drove a tractor to Washington D.C., where he lobbied for better prices for farm commodities.
They raised three children Jammye Timmons (Clay), Darryn Long (Brenda) and Jeni James (Howard).
In 1980 they moved to Paducah while he continued farming until retirement in 1992. After retiring James and Gayle started River Hill Ostrich Farm at Chalk. He also created an exotic animal transportation service. They traveled coast to coast and border to border, often planning trips to the west coast so they could see their children and grandchildren in Nevada.
James is preceded in death by his parents. James is survived by his wife, 3 children, 9 grandchildren: Dale Harrison (Meredith) Kristin Schroeder (Jayson) Derek Harrison, Deanna Sanders (Chris) Drew Timmons, Jesse James, Maci Burrow (Shane) John Parker Long (Morgan) and Kelsey Winslow, 14 great grandchildren and 2 brothers Homer Lee Long (Ann) of Burkburnett, TX and Jerry Pate Long (Susie) of Paducah, TX

She was born to Bill and Essie Murray on May 15, 1936. She was married to her high school Sweetheart, Charles Norman Havins on June 21, 1954. They had 3 children, Christy, Kerry and Brent.
Vera was a wonderful wife and mother and helped Charles on their farm as well as sewing for her children and a great cook. She attended and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Paducah for over 60 years and taught her children to love the Lord as well.
Vera was preceded in death by parents, her husband Charles and son Brent.
She is survived by her daughter Christy Chaney, Son in-law Doyle Chaney, son Kerry, daughter in-law Rhonda, 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, one sister, Billie Jean Tobias of Mesquite, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation is scheduled for Saturday October 23, 2021, prior to service from 11:00AM to 12:00PM at Zapata Funeral Home Chapel in Paducah, TX.
A graveside service is scheduled at 2:00PM on Saturday October 23, 2021, at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Paducah, TX , officiant is Kyle Roach, services are under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home.
