She leaves to cherish fond memories: her daughter Shekeila Porter and her son Kenneth Roger Jeter, both of Union, SC; her grandchildren: Amaziah and Elijah Byrd, Keylan, Kenslei, Kyson, and Kensia Jeter, all of Union, SC; her great granddaughter A’nylie Burris of Union, SC; her three sisters: Barbara (Norman) Mitchell, Jennifer Porter of Union, SC, and Gwendolyn (Melvin) Sanders of Jonesville, SC; her brother Michael Porter of Jonesville, SC; her four stepsisters: Melody (Rev. Alex was a terrific family man who enjoyed life to the fullest. A proud graduate of Wheatley High School in San Antonio Texas, class of 1978. He was a excellent BBQ chef and loved the Texas Brisket. As a accomplished musician Alex loved all kinds of music including Jazz and old school Rock-N-Roll. Alex was a great trumpet player who loved concerts and outdoor venues. He loved all sports and was very competitive and a proud supporter of the San Antonio Spurs. A loving husband, father and brother to all his family and friends, Forever Loved and Forever Missed. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Once they are gone, the sunshine of your memories will burn bright and clear. The time spent with you and what you have accomplished in your lifetime will live on forever. James D Byrd Sr was born on November 18, 1935 in Union, South Carolina to Buddy JD Sr. and Beulah Byrd. He moved to Washington D.C. where he met and married Bettie J Costly Byrd. James is survived by his loving and devoted wife Bettie, his son James Jr, his daughter Cenith, his granddaughter Phoenix, his brothers Berra, Larry, Buddy Jr. ,Russell, and Theodore, his two sisters Mae Francis and Marie, his nephews Charlie Jr. and Jody and many other nieces and nephews to numerous to mention and two sisters in law Sophia and Joyce. Your life ended so suddenly with no warning.  Our hearts ache with sadness. How could we have known prior to you going on a routine trip to the store on Christmas Day we would never hear your voice again? There are and will always be phenomenon, events and things that we will never understand as to why they happened. In your own words "Everything happens for a reason." Though our hearts are longing for you, we know you are at a peaceful rest because you were called home by the Creator. James was the greatest man, father, teacher, husband, and friend to his family we will ever know. He devoted his life to us. He was always 'family first'. He always took great care of us and provided for us. James loved to play checkers with his granddaughter. She was very special to him. James also loved sports, especially the Washington Football team and pro wrestling. He loved to clean, work on and customize his and our vehicles. He loved GM vehicles especially Cadillacs and Pontiacs. James was an excellent cook and had a beef stew that was out of this world delicious. He liked action movies, tv programs about nature, wildlife, the Earth and how things worked. His two favorite tv programs were CHIPS and Knight Rider. James was a generous soul who gave knowledge, donated to charities and always sent money home to his mom. James played the saxophone and harmonica. He even played with the James Brown band in the early 1960's. He loved jazz, the blues, doo-wop and classic R&B. Words cannot express how much we do and will miss him. Funeral services will be held Saturday January 8 2022 at 1pm at Lewis Funeral Home Chapel.

Obituary Preview: On Friday, December 24th, 2021, Mack Maurice Ochiltree of 1203 Main Street Buffalo, SC passed away at Spartanburg Medical Center Hospice Home at the age of 79.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Charlotte Ochiltree; his children: Mitzi Johnson (Darrell) of Union, Mack ‘Lil Man’ Ochiltree, Rubin Morris (Lisa) of Buffalo, Jeff Morris (Kim) of Buffalo. Surviving in addition to his children are two grandsons, Chad Cameron (Paige), Jason Cameron (Heather); four granddaughters, Courtney Greer (Daniel), Morgan Morris, Hannah Cooper (Quay), and Jordan Morris; and five great grandchildren, Charlotte Morris, Waylen Cameron, Heidi Cameron, Charner Greer and AJ Cameron.
Mr. Ochiltree was preceded in death by his parents, Edward H Ochiltree and Willie Chalk Ochiltree; a special aunt, Juanita Ochiltree; two brothers, Larry E Ochiltree and Clarence D Ochiltree; and two sisters, Ginger O Parkins and Sara O Harris.
He was born in Union, SC on October 24th, 1942. In his younger days, Mack loved to shag. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved the outdoors. He was retired from Torrington. Mr. Ochiltree was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.
A celebration of life will be held at Buffalo Baptist Church on Thursday, December 30th, 2021 at two o’clock in the afternoon. Visitation will be held at the church from 1:00-2:00pm prior to the service.
The family is at the home of Rubin and Lisa Morris; 1675 Meadow Woods Road Buffalo, SC 29321.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mack Ochiltree’s name to the Youth and Children’s Fund at Buffalo Baptist Church.
