Obituary Preview: Ella Scott was born in Greenwood Mississippi on November 27, 1925, to Arnie Abram and Annie Laura (Thompson) Abram. She moved to Muncie Indiana in 1942. During her early years, Ella worked at Ball Brothers Corporation and Owens Illinois. In 1948 she met and married Odell Scott. To this union 4 children were born. Ella was a devoted homemaker and helper to her husband in managing and helping support his many business ventures. She also worked as a missionary seeing to the needs of the elderly and shut in. She was known for her hospitality opening her home to ministers, evangelists, family, and friends. Her kindness and generosity were extended and felt by many.  She was a faithful member of Restoration for the Nation Assembly, Kokomo IN.  Ella, affectionately known as “Granny” was loved and adored by all her 20 grandchildren and her 31 great-grandchildren.  She was cared for by her family after a brief illness and departed this life on June 13, 2023, at the home of her daughter. She is survived by her 4 children Carolyn Barnes (Muncie IN), Diane Anderson (Delbert) Kokomo IN, Frank Scott Sr. (Sheila) Muncie IN, MaryAnne Barnes (Jeffery) Arlington TX, twenty grandchildren and thirty-three great grandchildren, two adopted daughters, Gail Penn (Kokomo IN) Lyndall Gillespie (Kansas City MO) and trusted neighbor, Sandy Moser
She was proceeded in death by her parents Arnie and Annie Laura Abram, her husband Odell Scott, six sisters Annie Bell Brown, Nancie “Kate” McGee, Naomi Ruth Dollison, Lottie Stewart, Lillie Nelson, and Jimmie Robinson, three brothers, Blumie Abram Sr., Lonnie Abram Sr., and Renzie Abram Sr., one grandson, Mark Lewis Anderson, and three great grandchildren, Adilynn Grace Barnes, Davionne Barnes and Javionne Barnes.
A public viewing will be held on Friday June 30, 2023 from 11am-1pm at Minnetrista Cultural Center, 1200 N Minnetrista Pkwy, Muncie, Indiana 47303, with a family reflection service to follow from 1pm-3pm.  A private burial will be held at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: In loving memory of our father, Eddie Wallace, who passed away on June 7, 2023. He was the devoted husband of Fronia and loving father of Eddie (Amy) Wallace Jr., Betty G. Wallace, Peggy (Brad) Wallace, Deloris Wallace and Quinton Wallace. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
One of the kindest souls on this planet, Eddie was a gentle, giving man who worked tirelessly to ensure that his family had everything they needed. He faced every challenge in life with admirable strength and courage.
Early in life, Eddie learned the importance of hard work, retiring from BF Goodrich after 29 years of employment. He was determined to instill that same work ethic in us. He was always there for us. He was a man of strong faith, and he taught us the importance of family, hard work and doing what is right.
Our father was a true role model who we will always look up to. The funeral service will be held at Carmichael Chapel on June 15th at 12 PM with a viewing held one hour prior.
Eddie, you are now at peace, but you will live on forever in our hearts. We love you so much. Until we meet again.

Nitra worked at State Developmental Center for a period of time before choosing a career with Michelin BF Goodrich where she worked for 22 years, in multiple positions, and finished her career as a Tire Room Planner.
Nitra had an eclectic love of music, was an avid reader, a movie buff, and a true foodie, her favorite place to enjoy the food and unwind was Don Hall’s Gashouse and she also loved spending time with her besties.
Our Beloved Nitra leaves to cherish her memory: two sons; Daryce Jackson and Daylen Jackson; father of her children, Darius Jackson; three grandchildren; Kasher Jackson, Kyndol Jackson, and Axion Jackson; her loving and supportive mother Delores Long, father Richard Curry; sister and confidant, April Long-Jackson, special sister, Tracy (Kenny) Williams; brother, Ryan Curry, two god-sisters; Aarika Dillard and Shaquille Brewer; godmother, Gaynell Dillard; her closest friends, Toya Tharp, Litisha Williams, Dasha Trice, and Carmitra Lawrence.

Obituary Preview: Jaden Lee Garrett, age 16, went to see Jesus on Saturday, May 20, 2023.  Jaden was born on May 1, 2007, to Douglas Sr. and Krista Garrett, in Muncie, IN.  He is a faithful member of Deliverance Temple where he was baptized on July 22, 2018, by his Pastor and Uncle Andre Mitchell as well as Jaden’s Daddy.  Jaden insisted on learning everything there was to know about working the church’s sound system.  He eventually became a member of the audio-visual team.
Jaden attended Mitchell Elementary, Burris Laboratory School, and Yorktown High School where he was concluding his 10th grade year.  Jaden spent many summers working for the Youth Empowerment Program through the City of Muncie Parks and Recreation Program. Jaden established JLG Lawn Care, LLC in 2020 and became well-known as one of Muncie’s youngest entrepreneurs due to his professionalism, work ethic, drive, and attention to detail.  Jaden always knew when someone needed JLG. He became quite the mowing professional and loved hearing others talk about his business, it made him proud.
Jaden enjoyed “going after his bag” and aspired to be rich with goals of creating lucrative businesses and taking care of others. Jaden’s friends mentioned that Jaden was someone that could “make it happen”.  Jaden enjoyed sports and played on multiple AAU teams, he was a member of the Yorktown High School football and basketball teams.  Jaden earned his brown belt through the training of White’s Bushido Dojo. Jaden loved playing games, hanging out with his friends, listening to and making music, laughing, and having fun. Jaden was a faithful member of Concrete Rose, MYEP, NAACP Muncie Youth Council, and Young Men’s Restoration Academy/Real Black Excellence. Jaden was generous - constantly giving of his time, talents, and treasures whether donating to a charity or volunteering for an event to help those in need.
Jaden has been writing and talking about Jesus his entire life.  Jaden was determined to see the good in everyone and for everyone to take care of one another and just be nice.  Jaden was the funniest and most compassionate person you would ever meet.  He left a mark and leaves a void that no other will ever be able to replicate or fill.

Jaden’s special friends, more like brothers, Malikai Perry, DonTino Bond, Dylan and Dreylen Mitchell, Curtis Mardis III, Spencer Rankin II, Ashton Pierce, Landen Kelly, and Jesus Osuna Jr. will ensure that he is never forgotten, he is taken along with them throughout their lives, and that his memory lives on along with other friends Layla, and Lexie Mardis, Alhazia Poreman, Kaedon and Kamryon Allen, Jayde Garrett, and Natavia Osuna.
Jaden was greeted in Heaven by his Paternal Great-Grandmothers, Evelyn Hammond and Bertha Garrett, Paternal Great-Grandfathers Lawrence Hammond and O.C. We are confident that Jaden was greeted with open arms, smiles, and lots of love especially by those family members that had unfortunately never met him along with his Bishop H. Royce Mitchell.
Jaden’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at The Gathering Muncie located at 9512 N. Walnut St. Muncie, IN 47303 with Pastor Andre Mitchell officiating.  The visitation will take place from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm with the celebration to begin at 12:00 pm.

Obituary Preview: Patrick Edward Hicks was born March 17, 1942 in Acmar, Alabama to the union of the late Charlie and Louise Hicks. He was the fifth of seven children. Charles, Lewellyn, Leotis, Dorothy, Stella and Christina whom preceded him in death.
Patrick moved to Detroit, Michigan at an early age. He was educated in the Detroit Public School system before moving to Fort Wayne, Indiana where he attended Central High. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior.
Pat met and married Shirley Brookshire March 16, 1996. He was the love of her life and she affectionately called him “Bookie”.
“Pat” as he was affectionately called by his family and friends worked for Zollner Piston for 30 years. Pat was known for his famous bar-b-que sauce. He loved to cook and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid card player and loved a good game of spades.

Geneva Billingsley - April 10, 1938 - May 12, 2023

Obituary Preview: Geneva Harrell Billingsley, referred to as Neet, Gypsy, and Bay, was born on April 10, 1938, in Marion Junction, Alabama to John and Inez Harrell. She was the last of 12 children. Geneva accepted Christ at an early age while on The Mourning Bench. After graduating from high school, she met her future husband, Odell Billingsley, through mutual relatives.
On August 9, 1959, Geneva married Odell Billingsley in Marion Junction, Alabama and soon after she moved to Fort Wayne, IN with new husband Odell.
After arriving in Fort Wayne, Geneva joined husband Odell and became a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church.
Her first job upon arriving in Fort Wayne was at Hutner’s Paris (Ladies Wear) in downtown Fort Wayne. Several years later, her third son was born and she decided to stay home, becoming a housewife.
While at home, she became a pretty good cook and loved to bake. Her favorite was her poundcakes. She started a vegetable garden during this time and became pretty good at gardening as well. Geneva also did some babysitting for family and some friends. Geneva enjoyed talking to her sisters on the phone who all lived far apart from each other. Geneva enjoyed listening to old time gospel music, especially Mahalia Jackson and others from that time period. She loved to travel back to Alabama for family reunions or just to see the old place she grew up as a child. Geneva and husband Odell also traveled around the country to some of the more popular travel destinations. She would also go on bus trips with other ladies including Annette Russell and Gussie Williams.
She leaves to cherish her memories her husband Odell of 63 years, a son Winfred (Cara L.) Billingsley, a son Dofrey (Megan) Billingsley, all of Fort Wayne, IN and a son A. Lane Billingsley of Los Angeles, Ca. Grandchildren Kendall Billingsley of Fort Wayne, Tracy Black Jr. and Victoria Black, both of Indianapolis, IN, and one goddaughter Patricia Woods Causey of Fort Wayne, IN.
She was preceded in death by her parents John Harrell and Inez Harrell as well as all of her siblings.

Pastor Charles Coatie - April 14, 1929 - May 10, 2023

Obituary Preview: Emeritus Pastor Charles Everett Coatie, 94, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 10th, 2023, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.  Charles Coatie was born April 14, 1929, in Mounds City, IL to his loving parents, Bishop Dixon Coatie and Hazel Henry Coatie.  Charles attended Love Joy School.  Charles volunteered in the US Army and became a staff sergeant and a communication chief in the Korean War.  In 1953, Charles was united in marriage to Ann Dennis.  Out of that union were born five girls, Deborah, Shenetia, Shelia, Charlotte, and Beth Ann. Charles never met a stranger.  He was loved by many with his infectious smile.  He made known that God healed him from cancer.  He showed his family how to love one another and was sure they knew after every conversation, by ending it with “I love you, and if its anything I can do for you, I got my pants on.” He taught his family how to fear God and believed that nothing was impossible without him.  His favorite saying was “We count numbers, but God makes numbers count.”
In 1956, Charles became an employee of Warner Gear.  He started as a janitor, then became a blue printer and lastly, a security guard.  Charles worked at First Merchants Bank in addition to Borg Warner (formerly known as Warner Gear) where he retired in 1993.
In 1961, Charles became a minister.  In 1962, Minister Coatie was sent to pastor Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C. in Richmond, IN.  In 1964, Minister Coatie became an ordained Elder.  In 1974, Elder Coatie was sent to Pastor Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ, at the request of the late Mother Dorothy Barton. He pastored two churches, one in Richmond and Muncie, Indiana.  He would spend the 1st and 3rd Sundays in Richmond and the 2nd and 4th Sundays in Muncie.
In 1973, Pastor Coatie was appointed Superintendent.  In 1995, he became a chaplain for the Muncie Police Department and Delaware County Sheriff Department.  In 2001, Superintendent Coatie and Mother Ann Coatie founded Greater Mt. Calvary C.O.G.I.C. and later became Emeritus Pastor in 2017.  Prior to his death, he served as an Administrative Assistant, Fourth Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction Indiana North Central, Bishop Donald L. Alford Sr., Jurisdictional Prelate.
After the passing of Mother Ann Coatie, Charles married Clara Johnson in 2011.  Charles leaves to cherish his loving memories to his wife, Clara Coatie; Daughters: Shenetia Venable (Superintendent Earl A. Venable), Shelia Coatie, Charlotte C. Johnson, Muncie, IN, Beth Ann Coatie, Ft. Wayne, IN; Adopted Son: Overseer Curtis Daniels, Elyria, OH; Grandchildren: Andrea Bond (Minister Jermaine Bond), D. Pepper Johnson, Elder Charles Venable (Dionna), Yanita Boykins (Anthony Boykins), Frisco, TX, Charda’ Johnson, Nashville, TN; Great-grandchildren: Aspiring Missionary Breanna McIntosh, Teanna Pounds, MaCayla Venable, Deontrell Johnson, Jayanna Pounds, C’Aysha Venable, Alison Boykins, Autumn Boykins, CaLaya Venable, and Airianna Bond; Brother Eld. Robert Coatie (Birdeen), Olivebranch, MS; Sisters: Barbara Wilmont and Naomi Walker (Leon) Milwaukee, WI, Rev. Muriel Weeden, Muncie, IN, Sister-in-law, Darlene Coatie, Muncie, IN, Gloria Dennis, Midlothian, TX, Brother-in-law, Rev. Charles Dennis, Humboldt, TN and Larry Dennis, Saint Louis, MO. Pastor Charles Coatie - April 14, 1929 - May 10, 2023

Obituary Preview: Emeritus Pastor Charles Everett Coatie, 94, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 10th, 2023, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.  Charles Coatie was born April 14, 1929, in Mounds City, IL to his loving parents, Bishop Dixon Coatie and Hazel Henry Coatie.  Charles attended Love Joy School.  Charles volunteered in the US Army and became a staff sergeant and a communication chief in the Korean War.  In 1953, Charles was united in marriage to Ann Dennis.  Out of that union were born five girls, Deborah, Shenetia, Shelia, Charlotte, and Beth Ann. Charles never met a stranger.  He was loved by many with his infectious smile.  He made known that God healed him from cancer.  He showed his family how to love one another and was sure they knew after every conversation, by ending it with “I love you, and if its anything I can do for you, I got my pants on.” He taught his family how to fear God and believed that nothing was impossible without him.  His favorite saying was “We count numbers, but God makes numbers count.”
In 1956, Charles became an employee of Warner Gear.  He started as a janitor, then became a blue printer and lastly, a security guard.  Charles worked at First Merchants Bank in addition to Borg Warner (formerly known as Warner Gear) where he retired in 1993.
In 1961, Charles became a minister.  In 1962, Minister Coatie was sent to pastor Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C. in Richmond, IN.  In 1964, Minister Coatie became an ordained Elder.  In 1974, Elder Coatie was sent to Pastor Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ, at the request of the late Mother Dorothy Barton. He pastored two churches, one in Richmond and Muncie, Indiana.  He would spend the 1st and 3rd Sundays in Richmond and the 2nd and 4th Sundays in Muncie.
In 1973, Pastor Coatie was appointed Superintendent.  In 1995, he became a chaplain for the Muncie Police Department and Delaware County Sheriff Department.  In 2001, Superintendent Coatie and Mother Ann Coatie founded Greater Mt. Calvary C.O.G.I.C. and later became Emeritus Pastor in 2017.  Prior to his death, he served as an Administrative Assistant, Fourth Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction Indiana North Central, Bishop Donald L. Alford Sr., Jurisdictional Prelate.
After the passing of Mother Ann Coatie, Charles married Clara Johnson in 2011.  Charles leaves to cherish his loving memories to his wife, Clara Coatie; Daughters: Shenetia Venable (Superintendent Earl A. Venable), Shelia Coatie, Charlotte C. Johnson, Muncie, IN, Beth Ann Coatie, Ft. Wayne, IN; Adopted Son: Overseer Curtis Daniels, Elyria, OH; Grandchildren: Andrea Bond (Minister Jermaine Bond), D. Pepper Johnson, Elder Charles Venable (Dionna), Yanita Boykins (Anthony Boykins), Frisco, TX, Charda’ Johnson, Nashville, TN; Great-grandchildren: Aspiring Missionary Breanna McIntosh, Teanna Pounds, MaCayla Venable, Deontrell Johnson, Jayanna Pounds, C’Aysha Venable, Alison Boykins, Autumn Boykins, CaLaya Venable, and Airianna Bond; Brother Eld. Robert Coatie (Birdeen), Olivebranch, MS; Sisters: Barbara Wilmont and Naomi Walker (Leon) Milwaukee, WI, Rev. Muriel Weeden, Muncie, IN, Sister-in-law, Darlene Coatie, Muncie, IN, Gloria Dennis, Midlothian, TX, Brother-in-law, Rev. Charles Dennis, Humboldt, TN and Larry Dennis, Saint Louis, MO. He leaves behind two stepchildren, and a host of step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, the extended late Rev. He accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at Pilgrim Baptist Church. He graduated from South Side High School on June 19, 1971. He attended Vincennes University and majored in Engineering. He was previously employed with ITT as a Draftsman Engineer and worked part time as a Janitorial Supervisor at the YMCA. In his earlier years he was also employed at International Harvester. In 1974, Terry had his first daughter LaToya Howard, and in 1977 his second daughter Shayla Howard. Years later, Terry met Marie Underwood and they entered into holy matrimony on June 27, 1981. In this union they birthed two children Taia (Thompson) and Jebraun Gatson. Terry was someone that enjoyed life. He loved to travel, play basketball, draw, and spend time with his family
He leaves behind to cherish his memories his daughters, LaToya Howard, Shayla Howard and Taia Thompson, a son, Jebraun Gatson all of Fort Wayne, IN; granddaughters, Niyah Howard, Chardae Craig. Ta'Shya Benson and Ayanna Benson; one great grandson, Nasir Howard; four brothers, Thomas (Delois) Gatson, Jr., Derrell Gatson, and Christopher Gatson of Fort Wayne, IN and Lavarrel Gatson of Illinois; four sisters, Clara Gatson, Deloris Perry, Angela Patterson of Fort Wayne, IN, Robin Miesen of Texas, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
