Obituary Preview: John “Pete” E. Kerres, 90, of Rock Island, passed away Friday, April 29, 2022 at Silver Cross, in Rock Island.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue Rock Island. For those unable to attend in person, Pete’s service will be livestreamed and viewable at https://www.wheelanpressly.com/live-stream. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Moline Church of Christ (4800 38th Avenue, Moline, IL 61265) where he was a member.
Pete was born February 27, 1932 in Rock Island, Illinois, to Morris and Beatrice (Branner) Kerres. He married Elizabeth Ingram on February 2, 1952. Pete worked as an Industrial Chrome Plater for Electro-Coatings Inc. for 43 years, retiring in 1994. He worked for both the Rock Island and Cedar Rapids, Iowa locations. Pete loved time spent with friends and family and always made everyone feel welcome. He never missed attending and cheering for his kids and grandkids in the sports they participated in. He especially loved traveling with his brother and their wives (who were sisters). Kerres brothers marrying Ingram sisters resulted in a smaller family and many, many jokes!
Pete also enjoyed fishing, Peanut M&M’s and brown licorice.
John is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Kerres, Rock Island; children, Ron (Luann) Kerres, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Donna Kerres, Moline, Lynn (Tammy) Kerres, Taylor Ridge, and Steve (Tina) Kerres, Rock Island; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert “Bob” Kerres; and sister-in-law Ruth Kerres.

William A. Lenger - January 06, 1954 - April 27, 2022

A service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made in care of Kings Harvest Pet Rescue, Davenport or the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Please make checks payable to the University of Iowa Center for Advancement and please indicate that the gift is in memory of William A. Lenger.
Bill was born on January 6, 1954 in Rock Island, a son of William and Madlyn (Freeberg) Lenger. He graduated from Alleman High School, where he acquired his amazing math skills that earned him the title of human calculator. Bill was a gear head that loved all motorsports. He was most proud of Pro Stock Drag Racing at the NHRA national level. He restored two ’70 Chevelles and found a love for stock car racing. He started his career at IH Farmall where he met the love of his life, Cindy. They were married 42 years. He always said she was not his wife, she was his life.   After Farmall, he worked at Edwards Construction in Geneseo. Since 1988 Bill also owned and operated Buffalo Trailer Company, where he built custom, quality trailers. He was a life-long Chicago Bears fan. He was looking forward to a new stadium and the Bears next appearance in the Superbowl. His favorite TV show was NCIS, he loved it so much that he even named his beloved dog Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Bill was always “right” and as he said, “I don’t try to be right, it just works out that way!”. Bill was a loyal friend with a heart as big as his Christmas displays.  He always had time for others and a helping hand for any project.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Cindy, Coal Valley; dogs, Jethro and Parker; brothers, Rodney (Wanda) Lenger, Sandford, Florida, and Scott (Cindy) Lenger, Walterboro, SC; brothers-in-law, Thomas (Sandy) Lotz, Forrest, VA, Scott Lotz, Aledo, IL and Dean (Erin) Lotz, Pearl City, IL; nieces and nephews, Phillip Lenger, Andrew Lenger, Ashley (Lewis) Lotz, Jacob (Taylor) Lotz, Stephanie Lotz, Julie (Jake) Lotz, Lisa (Jordan) Parrott, John Thomas “JT” Lotz, Natalie Lotz, and Mackenzie Lotz; great-nephew, Gideon; and many special friends, including his special garage friends, Sue and Steve.

Marilyn was born on August 8, 1948 in Milan, IL, the daughter of Robert and Charlotte (Hartman) Maynard.  She was a lifelong educator, dedicated to her students from middle school to adult English language learners. Her teaching career included time at J.D. Darnall High School, Rock Island High School, Edison Junior High School, and Black Hawk College.  Marilyn’s greatest joy was her family.  She loved being a sister, cousin, aunt, mother, and grandmother.   She also was devoted to her many long-time friendships.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Angie (Chris) Naylor and Whit (Debra) Sieben; grandchildren, Cecelia, Eliot, and Audrey Naylor, Elliana, Gracen, Everett, and Faith Sieben; and brothers, Scott and Mitch Maynard and their families.   She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Raymond Maynard.  Marilyn is a beloved child of God, and we will meet her again in heaven.

James was born on June 20, 1936, in Rock Island, a son of Michael and Rose (McCulley) Redington. He graduated from Alleman High School and received a bachelor’s degree from St. Ambrose University. James then served in the U.S. Army and married Sharon Sullivan on February 16, 1963, in Moline. He retired as a program analyst from the U.S. Armaments Command after over 20 years of service. James was an avid golfer and Green Bay Packers fan. After retirement, He enjoyed trips to Florida with his wife, Sharon.
Those left to cherish James’ memory include his wife, Sharon; daughter, Molly Rea, Rock Island; sons, John (Robin) Redington, Rochelle, IL, and Jay Redington, Rock Island; grandchildren, Katie and Andrew Rea, Danny and Ben Redington, and Anna Redington.

Elmer L. Kenney - September 23, 1938 - April 23, 2022

Visitation will be from 10-11:00 AM with a funeral service at 11 AM on Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory in Rock Island. Burial will be at the Clarence Cemetery in Clarence, IA. Elmer was born on September 23, 1938 to Paul and Dora (Yeater) Kenney in Iowa City, IA. Following his graduation from Clarence High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Germany.
On March 26, 1977 he was united in marriage to Mary Heather. The couple made their home in Davenport and enjoyed bowling on leagues together.
Elmer worked as a truck driver for the Rock Island Post Office and had his own company, Kenney Trucking. He then worked for Straight Shots until his retirement.
Even after retirement, he liked to stay busy and was always working on projects. Most recently, he built a screened porch on his house. He enjoyed having coffee with his coffee club every morning and cherished the time he spent with his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Dale and James; daughter, Kari (Max) Porter; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by his parents; nine siblings; and daughter, Beth Ann Langfeldt.

​Darlene was born on October 17, 1968 in Jackson, MS, the daughter of Charles L. McCauley and Elizabeth Jackson.  She married Roderick Crim on September 15, 2013 in Chicago Heights, IL. Darlene owned and operated, Essence of Beauty Hair Salon and was a phenomenal cosmetologist and beautician. She was also a licensed cosmetology teacher and massage therapist.
Darlene enjoyed time she spent with her family, doing hair and dancing.  She was a devoted member of Bishop B.E. Goodwin Memorial Cathedral in Chicago Heights, IL. Darlene loved God and lived a very spiritual life.  She cherished every minute of her life living it to the fullest, spending time with her friends and family.
​         Darlene is survived by her husband, Roderick Crim; children, Timothy (Jessica) C. Davis Jr., Essence E. McCauley, and Daniel C. Antonia was born in Rock Island, Illinois on July 26, 1955, a daughter of Jesus and Michaela Morales Díaz.  She married Bernard Vincent at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island, on May 12, 1979.
Antonia was a licensed beautician who worked 35 years as a hairdresser for various beauty shops.  She also worked 15 years at K-Mart and six years as the program coordinator for Southwest Rock Island Township.
Antonia was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island, and the Eagles Club and Euchre card club.  She loved the Rock Island Labor Day Parade and spent 37 years on the labor day committee.  She enjoyed playing board games, dancing, listening to music and was an avid life-long Cubs fan.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Bernard Vincent, Rock Island; children, Jeffery (Courtney) Vincent, Murphysboro, Ill., Michaela Vincent, Rock Island and Maria (Kory) Kerkhoff, Conway, Mo.; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Marcus, Scott, Kian, Rylee, Xavier and Dominic; siblings, Jesse (Carrol) Díaz, Summerfield, Fla., Anna Marie Díaz, Grace (Jerry) Shirk, Caroline (Keith) Quick, David Díaz and Kaye Whitley, all of Rock Island; Godson, Benjamin Quick; Goddaughter, Heather Diaz and many nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth "Betty" Moran - January 12, 1935 - April 18, 2022

Obituary Preview: With Spring upon us, the Daffodils, Tulips and Hostas are beginning to bloom. This was Elizabeth “Betty” Moran’s favorite time of year, as she tended her gardens and enjoyed the vibrant colors of nature.  Nurturing her family, friends, faith, and gardening was a lifetime passion. Sadly, she passed on April 18, 2022. Betty was 87.
There will be a visitation from 9am-10am on April 26, 2022, at St. Pius Parish in Rock Island followed by a celebration mass of her life, then interment at Rock Island National Cemetery with her husband John.
Betty was born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa.  She went on to become a radiologic technologist before meeting Chicagoan John Moran while he attended Loras College. They were married in May 1960 and moved to Rock Island to start married life.
Through the next several decades Betty raised her four children to have strong core beliefs that through focus, hard work, and good manners, great results will happen.  She leaves Michael (Robin) in Dublin, Ohio, Laura in Chicago, Steven (Neans) in Elmhurst, Il, and David in Columbus, Ohio.  She also enjoyed her grandchildren, Deneka (Jeff), Caroline, Jacquelyn, Aidan, and Elise, and great-grandchildren, Mason and Avalon.
While her children were still in school, Betty earned a design degree, gained ASID certification, and owned an interior design business for more than 30 years. Many of her projects focused on using outside landscapes as an extension of the room.
Betty was also involved in her community. She taught CCD at St. Pius for 12 years; served as parish council member at St. Anthony’s Parish in Davenport; was a member of and served as president of the VNA and was a board member of the local YMCA. She was a member of the Interior Design advisory board at Scott Community College in Iowa and was a member of the Tri-City Garden club for over 25 years.
Betty and John had many life-long friends in the Quad Cities, whom they traveled with to see the National Parks, North America’s Great Cities, Europe, and an occasional cruise and in addition socialized with their children at Iowa Hawkeyes games.
Betty spent her last seasons at the Overlook Village in Moline; family would like to thank the staff and nurses there for providing Betty with a great opportunity to finish her life with compassionate care and a comfortable environment.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents James and Marie Hynes, her siblings Richard, Mary, Katherine, her younger brother James, and her husband of almost 50 years, John, who died in 2010.

Rodger was born on December 17, 1954 in Douglas, Michigan, the son of Ike and Joyce (Hicks) O’Kane. He married Delia Abadilla on June 11, 1977 in Pullman, Michigan. Mr. O’Kane worked for Oscar Mayer, Davenport and retired in 2017. Previously he had retired from the U.S. Navy in 1994 as Chief Gunners Mate/Missiles after 20 years of service. While serving in the Navy he received the Navy Achievement Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and many other decorations for his service. Rodger enjoyed building model cars, cooking, movies, listening to 70’s music and most of all spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Delia; daughter, Cheryl Christenson, Silvis; grandchildren, Lindsay (Tyler) White, Davenport, Alexandria Mumma, Silvis, Jason S. Christenson, Des Moines, Haley Christenson, Silvis; siblings, Patsy (Junior) Ramsey, Douglas O’Kane and Danny O’Kane all of Michigan.
Rodger was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert O’Kane; sister, Kathy Willingham; and a son in law, Jason R. Christenson.

Tom Tredway - September 04, 1935 - April 10, 2022

Obituary Preview: Tom Tredway, 86, of Hampton passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022, at home.
Those who knew and loved Tom are welcome to gather in a celebration of life from 1:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at The Bend Event Center, East Moline, with a short program to start at 2:00 pm. Memorials may be made in care of River Bend Food Bank.
Tom was born on September 4, 1935, in North Tonawanda, NY, the son of John and Melanya (Scorby) Tredway. He married Catherine “Kate” Craft in 1991 in Galena, IL.
Tom grew his life and legacy while at Augustana College. He earned his bachelor’s from Augustana in 1957 and returned in 1964 as a history teacher. He was then named the Dean of Faculty in 1970 and President of the college in 1975. He went on to serve as president for 28 years before retiring in 2003.
Tom was a bicyclist for over 40 years and enjoyed riding the bike paths along the Mississippi River and country roads in Illinois and Iowa. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed the conversations and dialogue that such books inspired with others. Tom will forever be remembered for his witty sense of humor and his readiness to laugh.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Kate; son, Dan Tredway (Cheyenne, WY); daughter, Rebecca Tredway (Los Alamos, NM); grandson, Caleb Langenbrunner (Los Alamos, NM); and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, goddaughters and dear friends old and young, far and near.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an aunt, Ann Scorby; his sister, Christie Rowland; and brother-in-law, Brit Rowland (both of Mesa, AZ).
The family would like to thank the physicians, nurses, patient care techs, housekeepers, and nutrition staff of Genesis East CIU for their expertise, kindness, and care; and the nurses of UnityPoint Hospice for their compassion and grace.

Turamiere was born on June 8, 1968 in Moline, the son of William “Billy” Cribbs and Doris Lewis.  He was married to Tiffany Holmes, who preceded him in death.  Turamiere worked as a line worker at Tyson’s Foods where he was known for his positivity.  He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed his cars and old-school music, and was an excellent chef who enjoyed feeding his loved ones.  Turamiere loved life and everything that came with it, especially his family.  Turamiere’s active membership at Temple Baptist Church included singing with the male chorus, doing bus ministry for the youth, and serving as an usher.
Turamiere is survived by his father, William "Billy" Cribbs; mother and stepfather, Doris and Gerald McLaughlin; children, Turamiere T. Lewis, Terrence (Ali) Lewis, Treasur Lewis, and Travis Lewis; grandchildren, Aniyah and Andrae Lewis; brothers, Kenneth (Jennifer) Lewis, Chance Thomas, Stanley Kimmins, Terrence (Elva) Watson, sister Dr. Tiffany Stoner-Harris; and multiple nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Tiffany Holmes; uncle, Terry Lewis; and grandmother, Virginia Davis.

Robert was born on April 10, 1958 in Rock Island, the son of James “Jim” and Catherine “Isabelle” (Kirchner) Hansen. He was a graduate of Rock Island High School and later attended classes in Burlington to become a gunsmith.
Bob had been employed for several years at the former Freeland Sporting Goods Store, Rock Island. He later worked at Quad City Animal Welfare Center.
Bob loved the outdoors and spending time with his dogs. He also enjoyed shooting, fishing, hunting, boating, playing pool and was well known for his kindness to animals.
Survivors include his daughter, Katy Hansen; grandson, Bryce Rudd; siblings, Joan Hansen Holgate and John Hansen; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Isabelle; brothers, James Hansen and Joseph Hansen.

Mary is survived by her husband, Walter Thompson; sons, Robert (Pam) West, Richard A. James was born on March 21, 1950 in Moline, the son of Robert and Virginia (Buck) Schnitzer.  He married Sherry White on July 27, 1967 in Missouri.  James worked in the maintenance department at Frank Foundries, Moline, and later worked for Hansaloy in Davenport as a foreman.  He enjoyed watching NASCAR, old westerns, and any of the classic movies and shows.  James will be remembered for being a great handyman, able to fix just about anything.  He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid knife collector.
James is survived by his wife, Sherry Schnitzer; sons, James (Teresa) Schnitzer Jr., Shane (Heather) Schnitzer, and Brook Oden; grandchildren, Kalah, Joshua, and Gabe Schnitzer; and 2 lifelong friends, John Robins and Donnie Albright.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Lou Argo.

Gary graduated from Kewanee High School in 1966 and received his bachelor and masters in English and History from Western Illinois University. He was a junior high teacher at Coolidge in Moline before working as a Production Manager at Cobham Life Support Systems.
Gary was a self-made man who had a variety of interests. He loved music, literature and art. He was an avid reader, a lover of poetry and history, and a world traveler. He loved nature, National Parks and adventures with his family. He always had a random fact to share, enjoyed making friends with strangers, and was known to enjoy cheese curds and a frosty beverage, from skunky beer to a good IPA from time to time. He enjoyed playing golf with friends, talking about airplanes, feeding the winter birds, and watching all sports, especially the Packers.
Most of all, he dearly loved his family.  Gary is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Patricia Van Court, his son Andrew (Rachael) Van Court, Hayward, California; his daughter, Rebecca (Justin) Goad, Bentonville, Arkansas; grandchildren Logan and Selene, his brother Thomas Van Court, Groveland, Florida; his sister Bonni Brown (Donald), Humble, Texas; sister-in-law Nancy Van Court, Glendale, Arizona; sister-in-law Sue Van Court, Wetumpka, Alabama; brother-in-law Noland Pettit, Venice, Florida; and numerous wonderful nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Alma; his sister, Sandy Pettit; and three brothers, Richard, Robert and Arthur.

Mary Ann Hartman was born April 30, 1952 in Rock Island, a daughter of Robert E. and Helen E. Naab Hartman. She graduated from Alleman High School, Class of 1970. Mary Ann and Ernest “Chief” H. Voss, Jr. were united in marriage on October 1, 1971 in Rock Island, IL. He preceded her in death on April 12, 2008.
Mary Ann worked for over 20 years at Jordan Catholic School, Rock Island. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Rock Island, and the Altar & Rosary Society of the church. She enjoyed baking, gardening, camping and fishing. Her favorite times were those spent with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving are her daughters, Mary (Russell) DeBaillie, Orion, IL, and Kristy (Matt) Kean, Rock Island; son, Ernest “Scooter” R. Voss, Moline; grandchildren, Amelia DeBaillie, Henry DeBaillie, Isabella Kean and Logan Kean; brother, Thomas (Jeri) Hartman, Mesa, AZ; sister, Helen A. Boden, Rock Island; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and additional family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother-in-law, Gary Boden.

Once the children were out of school, she went on to work at the Moline International Airport as a security screener for several years. She enjoyed roller skating, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her granddaughter.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Larry Sr.; children, Larry Vercauteren Jr. and Candi (Loren) Lybeck; granddaughter, Shelby; and sister, Donna (Fred) Viren.

Dave was a U.S. Air Force Veteran who served during Vietnam.  He worked about 30 years at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 2007.
Dave was an avid fan of old Dodge trucks and Mopar cars.  He enjoyed watching races at the drag strip and games shows.  Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ruth Martin, Silvis; sons, Brian Hamrick, Moline and David Martin, Silvis; grandchildren, Joseph Eldridge, Jordan Eldridge, Alyssa Roberson, Sean Martin, David Martin IV and Zoey Martin; great-grandchildren, Alexa Surratt and Remington Norin; siblings, Norman Martin, Huntington Beach, Calif. and Dani Hughes, Coralville, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church, Alleman High School, or Jordan Catholic School.
Margaret Wadsworth was born on August 8, 1926 at Moline Public Hospital. She was the daughter of Camiel and Celina (Pieters) Van Ooteghem. She married William J. Wadsworth on August 14, 1948 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island and he preceded her in death on July 8, 2020.
In earlier years she worked at the Augustana College Pharmacy, Rock Island Arsenal, and Bituminous Insurance Company. She retired from the Rock Island County Health Care Center, where she had been the Activity Director, Admitting Clerk and Volunteer Coordinator.
She was very involved over the years holding numerous offices in both church and school organizations. She twice received the Community Service Award given by the Ladies Auxiliary of Camp 26, Modern Woodmen of America for outstanding volunteer work in the community and in 1977 was the finalist chosen to receive the Diana Award given by the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, which was given for their outstanding service in various areas to benefit others and exemplified in her daily life the qualities of love, faith and courage. In 1984, she was selected as KRVR Quad Cities of the day for her contribution to the community.
Margaret was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where she served on the parish council and as a Eucharistic Minister in 1978. She was the first woman in the Eucharistic Ministers group. Margaret was also the president of the altar and rosary society several times and of circle #4. In addition, she was active at the Belgium Culture Center, where she volunteered in the gift shop and helped with the waffle breakfast for 12 years.
In 2004, she received the Marquette Award for her dedicated service to the Diocese of Peoria. She received a certificate as a finalist for Church Basement Lady of the year 2009, sponsored by Circa 21 Dinner Playhouse in honor of her dedication to St. Pius X Catholic Church. In 2015, Margaret received a certificate of appreciation by the Center for Belgian Culture in recognition of outstanding service.
She had great love and appreciation for her husband, children, grandchildren and her many friends.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Jerry Taylor, Milan; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Diane Wadsworth, Coal Valley; grandchildren, Ryan (Amy) Taylor, Davenport, Bridget (Brad) North, Minooka, IL, Sarah Wadsworth, Schaumburg, IL, Ashley (Adam) Christiansen, Huxley, IA, and Amber (Joe) Kauzlarich, East Moline; great grandchildren, Joshusa, Parker, Brianna, Brydon, Cameron, Cole; great grandchildren, Olivia and Payne; and dear friend, Laury Larson.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sons, Michael and Marvin; and brother, Charlie Van Ooteghem.
