After his high school graduation, Les went on to attend Cobleskill University before transferring to Syracuse University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Les had worked for many companies and large corporations over the years including Beechnut and Lifesaver before retiring as a Controller for Warren County, NY. He had been a member of the Elks and Rotary International. Les enjoyed playing golf and bocce ball and had been the co - creator of the bocce ball court in Seven Lakes.In addition to his parents, Les was predeceased by a son, Rodger Sommers and sisters Irma Pestar, Janet Judd and Inez Molloy. He was the loving husband of Beverley Sommers. He was the father of Stephen Sommers, Jennifer Sommers, Nicole Lynne Sommers and Mary Beth Gomez. Les was the grandfather of Mary Burdick, Lily Gomez, Jake Gomez and Zach Gomez and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Michael Sommers, wife Patricia and many nieces and nephews.A visitation will be held at the Boles Funeral Home, 221 MacDougal Dr. West End, on Friday, May 3rd from 5:00 - 7:00 pm.

She was the loving mother of Bruce Davis, wife Katina, and Mike Davis. She was the grandmother of Bruce Nicholas Davis and Jacob Paul Davis and step - grandmother of Larry Snead. She is also survived by her brother Samuel H. Poole, wife Imogen.Sarah was a graduate of West End High School. After graduation she went on to attend St. Mary’s College in Raleigh before earning her degree in Interior Design from William & Mary College. Sarah had been the owner and operator of “Peach Inn & Things”, a flag and antique shop on Rt. 73 in West End. She had also been a life long member of West End Presbyterian Church.A visitation will be held at the Boles Funeral Home, 221 MacDougal Dr. West End, Saturday May 4th from 12:30 - 1:30 pm with a celebration of her life to start at 2:00 pm at the West End Presbyterian Church, 275 Knox Ln. All his children and grandchildren were the main source of immense joy and pride to Raymond's life.He was a successful entrepreneur, with notable achievements in the distribution and technology industries. His dedication and hard work were evident in the businesses he built and the relationships he cultivated.Raymond was an avid golfer who found solace on the greens and traveled with friends and families. He discovered a passion for darts, enjoying friendly competition with friends. Raymond's faith was an integral part of his life, and he found fulfillment in serving as a Eucharist Minister and Vestry Member at Saint Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church. He is preceded in death by first wife Isobel.Survived by wife Patricia, children, Robert Jr (Jacqueline Smith), Ann (Kathy Marszalskowski), Sarah DeHart (Mark) and Douglas (Michael Natale). two grandchildren, Jeffrey (Lisa) and Fiona (Lewis Harry) and two great-grandchildren, Ethan Eberle and Owen.Bob attended Hobart College where he met his future bride, Isobel. He was drafted into the Navy following graduation and served for two years. Following his discharge, he worked in the chemical industry for Rohm & Haas his entire career. His work enabled him to see the world as he travelled to Asia, South America and to spend four years with his family on an extended assignment in Sweden. This instilled a love of travel that enabled him to visit all 50 states and multiple countries around the world.Following retirement Bob and Issy moved to Seven Lakes, NC where they enjoyed an active life while spending part of their summers at the family house in Cooperstown NY. Bob was an avid tennis and golf player who enjoyed playing into his early 80s. One of his fondest memories was, while living in Sweden, playing in daylight at midnight. Following his first wife’s passing, Bob married Pat in 2016 and they enjoyed eight years together.A memorial service will be held at the Chapel in the Pines, Saturday April 13th at 3:00 pm, with burial later in Cooperstown.Donations in his memory can be made to the First Health Cancer Center, 220 Page Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374, or the Chapel in the Pines, 581 Seven Lakes Drive, Seven Lakes, NC 27376.Services are entrusted to Boles Funeral Home of Seven Lakes.

After graduating from Ayer High School in Ayer, MA, Stanley attended and graduated from UMass Amherst in 1969. Following graduation, Stanley went on to be a captain in the US Army during the Vietnam War. After the war, Stanley attended the University of Toledo College of Law, graduating in 1975. Stanley worked as an attorney in Clifton Park, New York for over 35 years. During his career, Stanley became a name partner at the law firm Overton, Russell, Doerr, and Donovan and served on several boards of different companies. Stanley was an avid golfer and a passionate sports fan. Stanley loved being around his family, traveling the world, and cheering on the New England Patriots.Stanley is survived by his wife, Mary Cook Russell; his children, Greg Russell (Jodi), Jaimie McDonald (Ryan), and Kyle Russell (Victoria); his grandchildren, Owen, Liam, and Matthew; and his siblings, James Russell (Kathy) and Jean Russell. Stanley is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents Stanley D. Russell and June B. Tims Russell. He also worked in the shipping department for Stanley Furniture. He was a charter member of Middle Cross Baptist Church. Reggie was always involved in Church. He had previously served as a deacon when he attended First Baptist Church in West End. His giving nature led him to helping many of his friends and neighbors when they needed anything he could provide. He was called the “Bike Man” because he would fix up bikes to sale, but more often he gave them away to kids that didn’t have a bike and their parents couldn’t afford one. He enjoyed going to car shows with his brother and many of his friends as well as fishing. Obituary Preview: Mary Jo Marshall (née Ryan), 80, of Seven Lakes, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, surrounded and loved by family.Mary Jo was born on September 27, 1943, to Dr. and Mrs. Carl Ryan in Akron, Ohio. After she graduated with life-long friends from Our Lady of the Elms in 1961, Mary Jo went on to study business at the University of Akron.She began her impressive career in the O’Neils Department Store advertising office and continued while the Creative Director of Fred Mayer & Associates Advertising. Later, she transitioned her business acumen to a new sector as the Director of Marketing for the Rapid Response Clinic network in northeast Ohio.Smart, witty, and compassionate, Mary Jo had a reputation for caring for others and was known for filling a room with her beautiful smile. She was a voracious reader and avid bridge player. Mary Jo was loved by librarians in both Akron and Seven Lakes and her family benefitted from recommendations that flowed from a deep reading list she loved to share. For decades, she was welcomed and respected at scores of bridge tables and tournaments. Her greatest joy, though, was her family. In all ways she was a wonderful mother, wife, and grandmother. Her legacy to her children and grandchildren will forever be lessons in the power of education, the need for gentle compassion, and the importance of a deep faith which she lived out in the Catholic church. In her final words, Mary Jo said it best: “ . . . A life well lived. A woman well loved. A child of God, now welcomed to Heaven.”Mary Jo was predeceased by her father, Dr. Carl Ryan, her mother, Julia Ryan (née Rossi), her sister Francis Comiskey (William) and her husbands Michael Janovic and Dr. E. Thomas Marshall. Susan Barbara Diffily - May 15, 1939 - March 24, 2024

Obituary Preview: It was a warm early summer day in 1939 when the late Angela (Stetcher) and Fredrich Wilms decided to attend the World’s Fair, hosted that year in Flushing Meadows, Queens, NY. Susan had other plans for the day. Forcing her parents to rush from the Fair to Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan, NY, Susan Barbara (Wilms) Diffily made her entrance into the world just a few hours later on May 15, 1939. After 84 years and a life well lived, Susan Diffily of Seven Lakes passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at the FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst. A memorial service will be held at a later date.Susan is survived by her husband of 58 years, John “Jack” Joachim Diffily, III; a son, Kevin Diffily of Pittsburgh, PA; daughters Kristine McKenna of Seven Lakes, NC and Kelly Diffily (husband Steven Kenney) of Philadelphia, PA; and three grandchildren, Ferdinand Sawyer, Kayla McKenna, and Nora Diffily-Kenney. She was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick Wilms and a sister, Linda Kiernan.Susan completed her Bachelor’s degree at SUNY Cortland and was an elementary school teacher for almost five years before taking on the job she occupied for the next three decades: raising her three children in Smithtown, NY. A dedicated mother and committed volunteer, Susan spent countless hours working as a PTA president, Brownie troop leader and a board member for an organization seeking to end Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), while still making time to sew homemade Halloween costumes each year. Each summer, she and Jack created lasting family memories by loading the kids in the back of the family station wagon (no air conditioning or seat belts, of course!) and traveling to destinations near and far across the United States. Susan was an avid and talented crafter who was particularly passionate about quilting. She readily shared those talents with others, teaching so many classes that she lovingly became known as “the Craft Lady.” Susan and Jack relocated to the Seven Lakes area for their retirement in 1997. She also gave generously to this community via both her time and by making substantial charitable donations. Susan was a founding member of The Sandhills Interfaith Hospitality Network, a legacy that continues to this day, as the organization (now known as Family Promise of Moore County) still provides shelter and assistance to Moore County families experiencing homelessness. Susan was a four-time cancer survivor who also courageously battled depression and anxiety during the latter decades of her life. She was committed to natural healing and the wellness community. She was deeply faithful and a proud member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church.

Bill designed and built homes for over 40 years in Seven Lakes and surrounding areas, where his eye for design is reflected in many homes and buildings throughout. Although he called Seven Lakes home, he could often be found on an adventure across the country or in Emerald Isle NC where he spent many wonderful days. As an avid fisherman and hunter, he could always find solace in nature, loving the preparation and preservation as much as the pursuit. His passion for the outdoors was matched only by his talent in the kitchen. Whether it was preparing freshly caught fish by the campfire or crafting delicious feasts for a crowd, his cooking always made a lasting impression. He will be remembered by the fellowship of these meals and the memories of shared adventures.The family will receive friends from 11 AM - 1 PM on Saturday, March 23rd in the Seven Lakes West Community Center. She married William Anderson Mitchell, who was then a young recruit in the US Army and moved with him to various assignments that included 9 years in Mainz and Heidelberg Germany. In 1969, Maxine began working for the Department of Defense serving 35 years in North Carolina, Washington DC, Panama, Kaiserslautern Germany and Ft. Monroe Virginia. She retired from the DOD in 2003 and lived in Greensboro, NC for a short time before relocating to Seven Lakes, NC. Maxine was preceded in death by her mother, Lovella Smith Wilson Hopkins; her father, Cauley Wilson; her step-father Glen Hopkins; sisters Lenis Rodgers and Shelby Lathan; and son William Bart Mitchell. She is survived by one sister Pearl Phillips; 2 children Randell Mitchell (Vicki) of Greensboro, NC and Alexis Mitchell of West End, NC; two grandsons Jason and Scott Mitchell; two grandaughters Katherine Mitchell and Charlotte Martin and Great-grandaughter, Arilyn Mitchell. Schiermeyer, 98, of Seven Lakes and formerly Warrenton, VA passed away peacefully at the FirstHealth Hospice House on Friday, Feb. 2nd.Born in Superior, Nebraska Aug. 16, 1925, he was the son of the late William and Martha (Grummert) Schiermeyer. After his high school graduation from a one room schoolhouse, Gary went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to the family farm in Nebraska and soon attended the University of Nebraska, earning his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1956. Gary married Susan Brown of Lincoln NE and soon took a job with Civil Service, a career that lasted 30 years. His career would move the family from Nebraska to the state of Washington and onto Washington, D.C. before his retirement in 1984. Gary found a beautiful property just outside Warrenton,Va with a bold stream running through and on June 18, 1978 married June Ann Dowalo and soon built their dream home; eventually had a barn raising with family and friends and continued working his beloved Shorthorn breed cattle for over 25 years. Gary was also a charter member of Alpha Gamma Sigma,a member of the UN Block and Bridle Club, and a longtime member of the American Shorthorn Association.In addition to his parents, Gary was predeceased by his son, Mark; brother Harvey and sisters Viola Houston and Eileen Weber. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, June Schiermeyer of West End, NC. He was the beloved father of Scott Schiermeyer, Barry Schiermeyer, wife Pamela, and Lisa Pittella, stepfather to Terry Kochniarczyk, Susan Bragg, husband Allen. He was the proud and loving grandfather to Heather, Christopher, Joshua, Olivia, Tara, Grant, Andre, Jared, Bruno and great grandfather to Aysia and Rowan and great great grandfather to Aubree. He is also survived by dear cousins, nieces, nephews, and family friends.A Celebration of his life will be held at the Boles Funeral Home, 221 MacDougall Dr. West End on Saturday, Feb. 10th at 2:00 pm. Christina had a huge passion and love for animals, and was also survived by her dog Zeke and cat Lamar, both of whom she’d had for many years. Christina worked for the past few years as a manager of a private owned resort property in Pinehurst, NC. She loved meeting people from around the world who came to stay at the resort and play golf, and was a dedicated, very hard worker. She is survived by her mother, Nancy Parton of Seven Lakes; three brothers, Luke Parton and wife Katie of Mount Pleasant, SC; Stephen Parton of Japan; Matt Koski and wife Angela of Rose City, MI; a sister, Kami McAllister and husband Ty of Lapeer, MI; several nieces and nephews, Grace Parton, Kalliopi Koski, Isabella Koski, Sasha Koski, Jordan Hottum, Jake Hottum, Rylie McAllister, and Ian McAllister.She was preceded in death by her father Timothy Parton.
