Obituary Preview: Margaret A. DeWitt, 96, of Evansville, passed away peacefully with family at her side, Thursday, March 21, 2024 at the Heritage Center. She was born September 17, 1927 in Tell City, IN to the late Edgar and Gertrude (Livers) Owen. Margaret worked at General Foods and The Evansville Regional Airport while starting to raise a family. She will be remembered for her love of flower gardening of which she mastered over the years. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who treasured the time spent with her family. Margaret is survived by her daughters, Deb DeWitt (Sue Ernspiger) and Jane (Earl) McCurdy of Scottsdale, AZ; sons, David (Rose) DeWitt, John DeWitt and daughter-in-law Dawn DeWitt; grandchildren, Joseph (Sara), Christopher (Stephanie) and Trevor DeWitt and Andrew (Lacey) McCurdy; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Clarence L. DeWitt; grandson Michael J. DeWitt; and siblings Mary Claassen, Jane Owen and John (Bud) Owen. It was Margaret’s wish not to have any services. Arrangements are being handled by Ziemer Funeral Home North Chapel. Don attended Holy Redeemer Catholic Church where he served as an usher. He loved his animals and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. He was an accomplished wood worker and handyman. Don could fix anything and was able to design and build a basement in his home. He enjoyed golfing with his family. Most of all, Don loved spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family was impressed with his optimism and effort to make a positive impact on everyone he met.Don is survived by his wife of 67 years, Virgina E. Patton; daughter, June E. Patton (William Greene); sons, Donald E. (Debbie) Patton, Jr. and Joseph R. Sherry and her husband, Dick, were owners of the HVAC Company, Phillips Heating and Air Conditioning and Electrical Contractors. They operated this business for over 30 years. Sherry was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Evansville. Sherry is survived by her daughters, Stacy Wheeler and Kathy Wilson; and three grandchildren. They will all miss her, but God has promised us a better place.In addition to her parents, Sherry was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Richard “Dick” Phillips; and son-in-law, Tony Wilson. According to her wishes, Sherry wanted to be cremated with no funeral, memorial or visitation. Ziemer Funeral Home North Chapel is handling her arrangements.

Don served in the US Navy for four years and retired in 1996 from Siemens after 35 years of service. Don attended Holy Redeemer Catholic Church where he served as an usher. He loved his animals and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. He was an accomplished wood worker and handyman. Don could fix anything and was able to design and build a basement in his home. Bill graduated from Rex Mundi High School in 1965 and served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a delivery driver for Farm Boy. Bill was an active member of the VFW Post 1114, American Legion and DAV. He was an avid bowler, participating in many leagues and bowled a 300 several times.
He is survived by his wife and partner for 34 years, Donna Starnes; children, Dixie McKinney, Amanda (Brandon) Hawkins, Kenneth Starnes, Jodie Becker and Dawn Austin; grandchildren, Alikai Hawkins, Colin Hawkins, Braydon Boatman, Destiny Jackson, Savannah Caldwell, Nathan Travelsead and Tabatha Badger; 11 great grandchildren; brother, Raymond (Cindy) Becker; sister, Linda Will; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth Becker, Richard Becker and Keith Becker.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Ziemer Funeral Home North Chapel, 6300 N. First Ave., Evansville. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Father Jerry Pratt officiating.
