Debra Lynn Christmas - September 07, 1958 - January 13, 2024

Departed: 01/13/2024 (Evansville)
Obituary Preview: Debra Lynn (Walker) Christmas, age 64, peacefully passed away Saturday morning, January 13, 2024. Fondly known as Debbie, she was a dynamic and lively individual, always on the move and never content in one place for long. While there is now a diagnosis for her spirited behavior, such explanations were not available in Debbie's youth, resulting in a plethora of entertaining stories and hijinks over the years.Born on September 7, 1956, Debbie shared her birthday with her mother, Joyce. A day they loved to celebrate together. The third daughter of Billy Frank and Joyce Walker, Debbie followed older sisters Susan and Kathy. Debbie had the remarkable ability to evoke both tears and laughter, leaving no dry eyes nor Debbie’s pants. Her infectious smile could light up a room, and she will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.A 1976 graduate of Central High School, Debbie worked in Data Services & production at Bristol Meyers for over 20 years, forming lifelong friendships with colleagues. She enjoyed weekend shopping getaways, craft shows, long walks for exercise, Bunko, and weekly Hacienda nights with friends & watching the Indianapolis Colts, and all football in general. Although her marriage to her high school sweetheart did not last, she retained the last name 'Christmas' and cherished it.Becoming an older sister at the age of 13, Debbie, after being the 'baby' for so long, didn't shy away from expressing her displeasure with this new addition. Despite her initial reluctance, that 'baby' sister became indispensable later in Debbie's life, something she thanked her for daily. Debbie's health inexplicably declined, leading to her inability to walk. Despite the challenges, she never stopped smiling. An MRI revealed a rare inoperable brain tumor, adding short-term memory loss to her physical restrictions. She received exceptional care, thanks to her 'baby sister' and the dedicated team at St. Croix Hospice, who have been by our sides these past years. Oasis Assisted Living, and Brentwood Memory Care Skilled Nursing. We are so grateful for their support; the family expresses heartfelt thanks to those who became like family during these challenging times.Debbie passed away without regrets, leaving behind a legacy of joy and laughter that reunites her with her father, Billy Frank (1993); mother, Joyce (1994); sisters, Susie Walker (2022) Kathy Byer (2017); beloved dachshund, Schultz and rescue pup, Yoshi, on the other side. While Debbie loved a good party, there will be no visitation or service, as per her wishes. Instead, she encourages everyone to enjoy life, laugh more, and, most importantly, smile—especially while you still have teeth.Debbie is survived by her younger ‘baby’ sister, Wendy (Heath) Neal; caregiver ‘daughter’, McKenna Biggs; nephews, Harold (Angie) Byer, Walker Byer and Chase Neal.Memorial contributions can be made online to Dandy Walker Syndrome research @ www.dandy-walker.org, The Adult Hydrocephalus Clinical Research Association @ www.ahcrn.org or check out volunteer opportunities @ www.stcroixhospice.com/volunteer.
