Obituary Preview: Julia A. Baker, 88, of Quincy, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019, at St. Vincent's Home in Quincy.
A funeral will be held Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy. Deacon Terry Ellerman will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Quincy.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019 from 10 to 11 a.m. at O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy.
Julia was born Aug. 5, 1931, in New York City to John Cronin and Florence A. Bobb Cronin Scarry.  She married Glenn C. Baker on Nov. 26, 1952.  He preceded her in death on May 7, 1978.  Julia is survived by 3 children, Thomas McKenna (Sandy) of Quincy, Nancy Bernhardt (Michael) of Quincy, and Timothy Baker (Andrea) of Quincy; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 1 brother, John Cronin (Patricia) of Dumont, N.J.; 2 sisters, Margie Collins of Quincy and Roseanne Parks (George) of Yonkers, N.Y.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Julia is preceded in death by her parents; 2 sons, PFC Kenneth McKenna, Jr. and Glenn C. "Pistol" Baker, Jr.; 1 daughter, Tina Rice; and 1 sister, Anna Bligh.
Professionally, Julia was a CNA for over 20 years in the Alzheimer's unit of Good Samaritan Home in Quincy as well as Home Healthcare for several years. She also worked at Maid Rite and was a school crossing guard for many years.  Julia was a longtime member of South Side Boat Club in Quincy. She loved boating on the Mississippi River and going to Hogback Island. Julia took great pride in her beginnings in New York City. She enjoyed watching baseball, and carried that pride over to being an avid New York Yankees fan, as well as a Chicago Cubs fan.
Julia was a Roman Catholic by faith and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Quincy.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Connie Allison and the staff at St. Vincent's Home for their loving care of Julia. Obituary Preview: Leola G. Askew, 95, of Quincy, passed away at 10:27 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2019, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Leola was born Nov. 15, 1923, in Stillwell, Ill., a daughter of Claude and Ethel Hunter Caley. She married Sylber D. "Don" Askew on March 23, 1956, in Carthage, Ill. He preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 2018.
Leola grew up working on the family farm and gained a strong work ethic. She worked at many jobs over the years including Dukane, Sheaffer Pen Corp., Motorola, and Lutheran Child and Family Services. In later years she loved doing food and product demos for many local stores. Leola never met a stranger.
Leola loved sewing and quilting. She collected recipes and cookbooks and enjoyed cooking and gardening with her husband. She also liked taking bus trips to Branson. Above all, she valued her family, and especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter.
Survivors include a son, Carl Askew (Julia) of Quincy, Ill.; a granddaughter, Carlie Askew of Quincy, Ill.; a step grandson, Scott Piner (Lara) of St. Charles, Ill.; two step granddaughters, Amanda (Piner) Hennenfent (Adam) of Springfield, Ill., and Andrea Jackson (Jamie) of Quincy, Ill.; three step great-grandchildren, Faith Piner, Connor Roland and Reid Hennenfent; a sister, Geraldine "Babe" Neill (John) of West Point, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Art, Don and John (Jack) Caley; and a sister Clarice Crabtree Walker.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, at O'Donnell – Cookson Life Celebration Home with Pastor Bruce Rice officiating. Burial will be in Loraine Cemetery in Loraine, Ill.
Friends and family are invited to Leola's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019 and 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, at the O'Donnell Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy.

Obituary Preview: Richard A. Paul, 102, of Quincy, passed away at 11:47 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019, at Good Samaritan Home.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Good Samaritan Home Chapel in Quincy, with Pastor Tony Metz officiating.
A graveside service and burial with full military honors will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, in Sunset Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to Richard's life celebration at a visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Oct. 23 at the chapel.
He was born Oct. 23, 1916, in Hannibal, Mo., a son of James and Florence Paul. He married Esther Viola "Vi" Jewell on Christmas Eve 1943. She preceded him in death in 2008.
Survivors include daughters, Julie Charapata of Lomira, Wis., Esther Nabity of Independence, Ore., Janice Milligan of Christchurch, New Zealand, and Ellen Cooling of Omaha, Neb.; sons-in-laws, Curt Cooling, Don Charapata and John Milligan; grandchildren, Crystal, Karrie, Erik, Brad, Matthew, Paul, David and Denise; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his wife, Esther Viola, Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his brother James Paul.
Richard lived through amazing times in history. He graduated from Quincy High School in 1934 during the depths of the Depression. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps (what later became the Air Force) during World War II and became a B-24 pilot. He flew 36 bombing missions in the Pacific theater as part of the 13th Air Force.  After returning to Quincy, he became a pharmacist through an apprentice program and worked for Brown Drug Co. for 42 years.He and his wife raised four daughters. He was a charter member of Sheridan Swim Club and often credited his health to constant exercise. He also served on the boards of Good Samaritan Home and Luther Memorial Church. He and Viola were active golfers, downhill skiers and travelers -- especially to Saskatchewan, where his in-laws lived.

Born August 29, 1926 in Ursa the eldest daughter of fifteen children, to Alva D and Marie Rowsey Miller She married John Spindler on February 28, 1946 at the Grace Methodist Church, in Quincy.  He preceded her in death on September 22, 2001.
Joann was employed at Methodist Sunset Home for 25 ½ years as a LPN.  She was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include; a daughter Adelia “Dede” (Richard)  Carter of Quincy; Three Sons,  DeWayne (Yvonne)  Spindler, Thomas (Vicky) Spindler and Kevin Spindler; seven grandchildren, Lisa (Greg) Jones, Missy (Bill) Newton, Chris (Lisa) Spindler, Amanda Garnett, Tommy (Amy) Spindler, Tami (Gabe) Trevino, and Tracey Hall; sixteen great grandchildren, Gregory (Amanda) Jones, Emily (Justin) Ford, Hallie Spindler, Claire Spindler Graham, Dara Kraklio, Christian Hall, Mason Hall, Josiah Trevino, Ellie Trevino, Arianna Trevino, Hayden Garnett, Clare Garnett, Ashley Spindler, Josh Spindler and Zach Spindler; two great great granddaughters, Emma and Adelia Jones and one on the way;  five sisters, Barb (Bill) Arment, Ruth (Harlan) Blackburn, Sarah Griffith, Sharon (Larry) McKinney and Jackie Beebe; three brothers, Alva Miller, Jr., Gene (June) Miller and Ted (Amy) Miller; two godsons, Ricky and Randy Meehan; many nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, and sisters and brothers in law, Ferol (Roger) Waller, Melva (Rich) Meehan, Mary (Carroll) White, Bill Griffith and Larry Beebe; three infant siblings, Rose Marie Miller, Doris Arlene Miller and Larry Dale Miller.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home at 10:00 AM with Rev. Lee Amsler officiating. Burial will be in New Providence Cemetery in Ursa, Illinois.
Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 5:00PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Carmiletta Mae Pittman, 84, of Fowler, Illinois, passed from this life to be with her Heaveny Father on Monday (September 23, 2019).        Born September 20, 1935, in Philadelphia, Missouri, Carmiletta was the daughter of John Denoy and Lucinda Marguerite (McPheeters) Adams. Carmiletta married Galen H. Pittman, Jr., the love of her life on September 2, 1978 at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Ewing, Missouri.  He survives.        Carmiletta's family moved to Quincy in 1947 after the death of her father. She lived in several states over the years but lived in the Quincy area most of her life.        She was employed at Motorola for many years and later at Broadcast Electronics. Carmiletta retired from Good Samaritan Home after several years.       A lifetime St.Louis Cardinals fan, Carmiletta enjoyed watching scary movies and playing cards. Her greatest joy was her family and she loved the time she shared with them.         Survivors include her husband, Galen Pittman of Fowler; four sons, Charles Howlett (Julie) of Louisville, Ky, Lawrence Howlett (Jena) of Yukon, OK, Tracy Howlett (Becky) of La Grange, MO and Troy Howlett of Yukon, OK;  eight grandchildren; and many loving  great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.        Carmiletta was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Maxine L. Rice and Rose Marie Brothers; a brother, Melvin D. Adams; three siblings in infancy; and two half-sisters, Virgil Boyle and Oneta Stutenberg Dayton.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Henry officiating.  Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Thursday morning from 9:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.

Richard Bigelow - November 29, 1928 - September 21, 2019

Obituary Preview: Richard Charles “Dick” Bigelow, age 90, of Quincy, IL, died at the Illinois Veterans Home on Saturday (September 21, 2019). He was born November 29, 1928 in Quincy, a son of Arthur and Marguerite (Binger) Bigelow. He was of the Protestant faith. In 1946 he graduated from Quincy Senior High School.  Mr. Bigelow was a veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served from 1951-1953, Sergeant, US Army, 351st Reconnaissance Division and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star.
Sigrid Brinkhoff who survives Richard, married him on September 4, 1954 in St. Peters Catholic Church. They recently celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary.
Richard developed a love of farming in his early years, working on his uncle’s farm, and then his own spread outside Tioga, Illinois.  Like his mom, dad and brothers, he had a strong work ethic that he impressed on his kids, not without some resistance on their part.  He was the consummate fix-it man, whether it was farm machines, cars or houses.  His mechanical skills developed from his work on the farm carried over to his Army motor pool service in the Korean conflict. He also used his mechanical aptitude at the Gardner-Denver Co. where he retired after 34 years of service.  There he worked as Manager of Methods, Manager of Equipment Planning, and Warranty Administrator.  He was a former member of the Quarter Century Club, Gardner-Denver Management Club and a long-time member of the Elks.  He was indeed a conscientious provider for his family.
Richard enjoyed playing golf and bowling in his free time.  He also enjoyed travel with his wife, family and friends, including trips to all 50 states, Bahamas and Europe. He and Sigrid especially enjoyed their time with family, including their five children, 13 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, and the many celebrations they had. The loss of his beloved grandson, Zakery, was a time of great sadness for Dick and his family and left a large hole in his heart. His dog Koko was a faithful companion in his later years.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Sigrid, include one daughter, Kristie Haubrich (Timothy) of Quincy, IL; four sons, Wayne Bigelow (Sharon) of  Bradenton, FL and Clifford Bigelow (Dianna) of Lake St. Louis, MO, and Jeffrey Bigelow (Kathy) of Quincy, IL and Mark Bigelow (Ching-Fen) of  Quincy, IL, ; 12 grandchildren Alice Morris of Ault, CO, Gretchen Bigelow of Florence, MT, Nicole Denis of Battle Mountain, NV, Benjamin Bigelow of  Lake St. Louis, MO,  Lauren Bigelow of Lake St. Louis, MO, Alex Bigelow of  Quincy, IL, Nicholas Bigelow of  Portland, OR, Ryan Bigelow of Quincy, IL, Jeremy Bigelow of Normal, IL, Shannon Lin of Champaign, IL, Justin Haubrich of Fowler, IL and Aaron Haubrich of Quincy, IL; 9 great grandchildren, Pearl Morris, Curtis Morris, Harper Hazel, Braxton Hazel, Layla Bigelow, Elijah Haubrich, Isaiah Haubrich, Chase Charles Haubrich and Daegen Haubrich; a brother James Bigelow, two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Bigelow of Quincy and Sharon Bigelow of Kingston.  Also surviving are several loving nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Kenneth and David Bigelow, and his grandson Zakery Haubrich.
Visitation will be held at the time of the Funeral Service, Tuesday in the All Faith’s Chapel at the Illinois Veteran’s Home at 10:00 AM Chaplain David Hall officiating.  Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.  The Illinois Veterans Home Honor Guard and the Army Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail will conduct military services at the graveside.

Martha Viar - February 13, 1926 - September 20, 2019

Obituary Preview: MARTHA  VIAR     Martha "Mert" Viar, 93, of Rockford, Illinois, formerly of Quincy, passed away at 4:53 a.m. Friday (September 20, 2019) in the Alpine Fireside Nursing Home in Rockford.     Born February 13, 1926, in Quincy, Martha was the daughter of Orville and Ada Worley Wells.  She married Francis E. Viar on March 31, 1951, in Madison Park Christian Church in Quincy.  He preceded her in death on January 11, 2010.     Faith and Family were Mert's life.  She was a charter member of Grandview Church, where she was a very active member and for decades taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Children's Church, sang with the choir, organized luncheons and served on various committees.  Mert was still volunteering in the nursery until she moved to Rockford in 2009.  She was devoted to her family and cherished the time she shared with them, especially her grandchildren, whom she described as "the apple of her eye."     A 1944 graduate of Quincy High School, Mert had been employed at Woolworths, Quincy Country Club and then as a file clerk at Moorman Manufacturing for 20 years until her retirement.     Survivors include two daughters, Doneta Lewis of Rockford, IL, and Bobette Platt (Dr. Jay Platt) of Munster, IN; five grandchildren, Dr. Brandon Platt (Dr. Danielle Platt), Dr. Blake Platt (Dr. Alyssa Espinera), Brooks Platt, Gina Lewis and Jeremy Lewis; two brothers, Jim Wells (Nancy) of Quincy and Frank Wells (Mary) of Quincy; a sister-in-law, Louise Wells of Quincy; and many loving nieces and nephews.     Mrs. Viar was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Francis; and two brothers, Richard Wells and Donald Wells (Carol).     Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Grandview Church with Pastor Dennis Thomas officiating.  Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.     Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00 until the time of services at Grandview Church.     The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers.  Memorials may be made to Grandview Church or the Alpine Fireside Health Center.

Born on February 5, 1927 in Quincy, Verda was a daughter of George and Anna Rowsey Blivens.
Verda married Marvin D. Masters in Quincy in November 8, 1952; he preceded her in death in 1981.  She later married Gene Johnson; he preceded her in death on January 9, 2010.
Verda graduated from Quincy High.  She enjoyed crocheting and was known for having an eye for decorating skills.  She worked at Motorola for a number of years before retiring to raise her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Noble of Quincy; three sons, James Masters, Jeff Masters both of Quincy and Calvin Masters (Kathy) of Ottumwa, Iowa; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and one sister, Alice Wright of Quincy.
Verda was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands; and several brothers and sisters.
Private family services will be held at a later date.

Michelle Harris - March 31, 1949 - September 15, 2019

Reene Michelle Harris, 70, of Quincy, passed away at 11:36 p.m. Sunday (September 15, 2019) in Good Samaritan Home.
Born March 31, 1949 in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Michelle was the daughter of Richard G. and Breta M. Robertson Cook.  She married Lanny Daugherty.
Michelle enjoyed gardening, garage sales, crafting and playing golf.  She achieved a hole in one at the Knights of Columbus.  She loved her cats and her family was most precious to her escpecially being a grandma to Jazzy.
At the age of 41, Michelle put herself through nursing school. She was employed as an L.P.N. at Good Samaritan Home for 17 years until her retirement.
Survivors include her mother, Breta Cook of Quincy; her daughter, Heather Harris of Quincy; two sons, Tim Harris and Darren Schnelle all of Quincy; four grandchildren, Jazmin Harris, Armand Brown, Trinity Schnelle and Kameron Schnelle; one great granddaughter, Emersyn Schnelle; two brothers, Michael Cook (Mary) and Mark Cook (Sarah) both of Quincy; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Michelle was preceded in death by her father, Richard Cook.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at  10:00 AM in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor  Josh Vahle officiating.  Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and  Saturday morning from 9:30  until the time of services at the funeral home.

Born May 10, 1955 in Quincy, Clyde was the son of Clyde William and Carlene Ruth Richmiller Beers.  He married Sue Ann Mills in Quincy, Illinois on August 12, 1989.  She survives.
Clyde studied at John Wood Community College and Rhema Bible College.  He was a former pastor and self-employed construction worker.
In addition to his wife, Sue, and his mother Carlene; he is survived by three sons, James Lee Beers (Rachelle) of Quincy, C. Joshua Beers (Brianne) of Knoxville, TN and Matthew Andrew Beers of Lake Charles, LA; four grandchildren, Haley Beers, Aspen Beers, Dakota Myers and Arley Howard; four sisters JoAnn Mussetter (Bill) of Quincy, Mary Saxbery (James Steven) of Quincy, Ruth Saxbery (Dennis) of Springfield, IL,  and Debbie Wear (John) of Quincy; a brother-in-law, Fred Washausen; and many  loving nieces and nephews.
Clyde was preceded in death by his father; sister, Sandra Washausen; a brother in law, Gary Ames; three nieces, Teresa Saxbery, Melissa Mussetter and Amanda Ames.
Funeral Services will be Monday afternoon at 1:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Rev. William Mills officiating.  Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Born April 20, 1958 in Quincy, Pam was the daughter of William E. "Bill" and Edith M. Drummond Cookson.  She married Douglas "Doug" Hankins on December 30, 1977 in Quincy.  He survives.      Pam enjoyed reading and loved playing Bingo but her family was most important in her life.  She was a devoted wife, mom and grandma and truly loved having her "Grandma Day Care".
Survivors include her husband, Doug; two daughters, Mandi Sill and Nikki Bowen (Tod) both of Quincy; three grandchildren, Landon Wheeler, Camdon Bowen and Piper Sill all of Quincy; two brothers, Larry Cookson (Jeanie) of Quincy and Brad Cookson (Eva) of Quincy; a sister in law, Franny Cookson of Quincy; and many loving nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Pam was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Tommy Cookson.
The family will meet with friends at a memorial visitation on Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.
Inurnment will be at a later date in Greenmount Cemetery.

Gary Lee Schieferdecker, 75, of Quincy, formerly of Liberty, passed away at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday (September 10, 2019) in Blessing Hospital.
Born January 14, 1944 in Quincy, Gary was the son of Kenneth and Emma Tyler Schieferdecker.  He married Jackie Cooper on June 13, 1964 in St. John Catholic Church in Quincy.  She survives.
Gary was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. An avid Nascar and football fan, he also enjoyed tending to his flower garden and watching the birds in his yard.  Gary loved riding his motorized chair with his dog "Baby" sitting between his feet.
Mr. Schieferdecker was employed as an over the road truck driver for 32 years until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie; a daughter, Julie Uppinghouse (Randy) of Payson; two sons, Greg Schieferdecker (Julie) of Quincy and Bob Schieferdecker (Angie) of Daytona Beach, FL; seven grandchildren, Andy Boden (Janelle), Heidi Logsdon (Matt), Tyler Schieferdecker (Abby), David Boden-Shackleton (Jess), Katie Asbridge (Matt), Lucas Schieferdecker and Kristie Schieferdecker; six step grandchildren, Arika Pipkin (Josh), Austin Uppinghouse (Haley), Gabriela Murillo,  Christian Martinez, Jayla Martinez and Aviana Martinez; two brothers, Terry Schieferdecker of Quincy and Joe Schieferdecker (Doris) of Quincy; 16 great grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Helen Cooper; a sister in law, Marcia Schieferdecker of Ursa, IL and Patricia Cooper of Quincy; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Larry Schieferdecker; and a sister in law, Diann Schieferdecker.

Born March 19, 1946 in Quincy, IL, Michael was a son of Alfred Fred and Gail Marie Gray Moore.
Michael was a member of the Columbus Road Baptist Church.  He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Rifle Marksman Badge, and a Presidential Unit Citation.
He was self-employed in the lawn care business.  Michael was the owner operator of Moore’s Mowing Service.
Michael is survived by his longtime companion, Sharon Winters; two daughters, Amy Winters (Michael) of La Grange, MO, and Wendy Moore Chitwood of Quincy; one granddaughter; Devyn Winters of La Grange, MO; a sister, Cynthia Brunier of Minneapolis, MN; one brother, Phillip Moore (Betty) and a half brother, Ross (Tammy) Lippincott, Jr; four nieces; Tori Aldinger,  Kay Swanson (Scott), Melissa Johnson (Darin) and Lindsey Lippincott; three nephews, Todd Brunier, Phillip Moore, Jr, and Kristopher Lippincott; grandson, Zac Winters (SueAnn); two great grandchildren, Kyle and Kylie Winters and many great nieces and nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew Trent Brunier; a niece Judith Moore in infancy; and Ross Lippincott, Sr.

Jean P. Gilchrist, 88, of Quincy, passed away at 7:38 p.m. Monday (September 9, 2019) in her home.
Born September 25, 1930 in Jacksonville, Illinois, Jean was the daughter of Everett and Ellen Cruzan Patterson. She married Dr. Don K. Gilchrist on August 21, 1954 in Winchester, Illinois.  He preceded her in death on July 12, 2008.
Jean was a member of Vermont Street United Methodist Church where she was an active volunteer for anything that was needed. She was a member and past president of United Methodist Women, a member of PEO Chapter IE and served for many years on the board of directors of the Civic Music Association.
Jean was a devoted to her family and cherished the time she shared with them.
Jean was employed for a doctor's office in Chicago while her husband, Don was in Medical School. After the family settled in Quincy, Jean became Quincy's first Bridal Consultant and helped coordinate numerous weddings over the years.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Gilchrist of LaFayette, LA and John Gilchrist (Stacy) of Louisville, KY; a daughter, Ann Hicks (Butch) of Marseilles, IL; a son in law, Scott McFarland of Knoxville, TN; seven grandchildren, Jennifer McCaughey (Eric) of Quincy, Zachary Gilchrist of Springfield, IL, Adrienne Walmsley (Dan) of St. Charles, MO, Ian McFarland (Kara) of Knoxville, TN, Madeline Clark (Mitchell) of Chattanooga, TN, Mitchell Gilchrist and Grant Gilchrist both of Louisville, KY; five great-grandchildren, SPC Jerid McCaughey 101st Airborne Division, Lilly McCaughey, Katie McCaughey, Jackson Gilchrist and Norah Walmsley; a brother, Everett "Bud" Patterson (Jolene) of Key West, FL; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Larry had a special place in his heart for animals, especially his 3 dogs, Myla, Ruby and Apples and was a volunteer for Homeward Bound Waggin for several years.  He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and spending time at his rivercamp.
Larry owned and operated Shear Approval Landscaping until his health forced his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Tina; his mother, Joanne Watson of Loraine, IL;  two daughters, Jennifer Seckman (Matthew) of Loraine, IL and Melissa Baum (Josh) of Quincy; a step son, Adam Beston (Julie) of Menomonie, WI; five grandchildren, Nicholas Doellman, Emma Heck, Jaxton Seckman, Lillian Seckman and Kynzie Baum; a step grandchild, Journey Beston; a brother, Sean Smith (Cathy) of Phoenix, AZ; two half brothers, Dennis Smith Sr. (Lisa) of Quincy and Randy Smith (Andrea) of Lima, IL and ; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his father, Earl Smith Jr; a half brother, Ronnie Smith; and two step fathers, Larry Browning and Robert Watson.

She married John H. Logsdon on June 21, 1945 in Versailles, IL.  He preceded her in death on September 29, 2012.
Bertha enjoyed fishing, camping, and gardening.  She was a hard worker, caring for her five sons. In her later years loved spending time with her grandchildren.  The most precious thing in her life was family.
She worked at Package Corps of America until retiring in 1975.
Survivors include three sons Richard Logsdon, William Logsdon (Sharon K.) and Larry Logsdon (Barbara) all of Quincy.  Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; a brother-in-law Robert Wm. Logsdon of Versailles, IL. Mrs. Logsdon was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John; two sons James W. Logsdon and Donald G. Born June 23, 1952 in Quincy, Gary was the son of Vernon and Letha Hull Cooper.                                                              He graduated from Payson Seymour High School with the class of 1971 and is recognized as an outstanding athlete in his class and in the history of Seymour High, he especially excelled in basketball.  Gary enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to the stock car dirt track races and watching women’s college basketball.  He helped at The Crossing Church doing many tasks.
Mr. Cooper was employed as a Machinist for Gardner Denver for 38 years.
Gary adored his two daughters and son and was proud to have cared and nurtured them from babies to the loving adults they are now.
Survivors include two daughters Mary L. Getz (Dustin "Duck") of Warsaw, IL, Beth Cockerill (Brian) of Quincy; a son Gary M "Mike"Cooper of Quincy; four grandchildren Maddison, Mason, Maelee and Miles Cockerill.  Also surviving are three brothers Vernon Cooper (Nancy) of Canton, OH, Bob J. Cooper (Debbie) of Quincy, Kenneth Cooper of Quincy and a sister Doris Black of Quincy; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by his parents, a brother in-law Charles Black and a grandchild Taylor Cooper.

Mary was a member of St. Rose of Lima.   She was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary in Quincy Local No.  535.   She loved playing Bingo, enjoyed attending card parties and she especially loved time spent with her family.
In addition to her husband, Virgil, she is survived by her two sons; Michael E. Goehl (Cynthia) and Jimmy Goehl (Brenda) both of Quincy; five grandsons, Michael W. Goehl (Jennifer), Brian Goehl (Kim) and Jordan Goehl (Anna), Ronald Kimbrell (Mandy), and Jason Vipon; seven granddaughters, Laura Goehl (Neil), Amanda Goehl, Melinda Hall (Cody), Jennifer Baldwin, Jessica Baldwin, Lori Sheffler (Troy), and April King; a daughter in law; Donna Goehl of Quincy; many great grandchildren.

Obituary Preview: Rev. James M. Jenkins 81, of Quincy, passed away Wednesday (August 28, 2019) at the Illinois Veterans Home, Quincy.
He was born September 15th 1937 in Groesbeck, Texas the son of James M. Jenkins Sr. and Lorene Griffis.  He married The Rev. Constance “Connie” Leonard on March 5, 1966 in Wichita, Kansas. She Survives.
Jim served his country in the U.S. Air Force retiring after 20 years seeing service in Vietnam.  After Jim’s retirement from the military he was called to the ministry graduating from Western Illinois University and the Garrett Evangelical Seminary at the Northwestern University Campus in Chicago, IL.
Rev. Jenkins was appointed to many churches of the Illinois Great River Conference including Augusta, Huntsville, Hull, New Canton and Kinderhook. Pastor Jenkins retired from full time ministry after serving the area for over 20 years until his retirement.  He had resided at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Illinois for the last several years.
Surviving is his wife, Rev. Constance “Connie” Jenkins, of Quincy; A daughter, Lorene (Mark) Willard of Bowen; two sons, Parker Jenkins (Tracey) of Ulen, Minnesota and Payton Jenkins of South Whitley, Indiana; three grandchildren, Whitney Willard of Chicago, Alex Jenkins and Mason Jenkins both of Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother in infancy and two sisters.
Jim had a great sense of humor.  He loved God, his country and his church.  Most of all, he loved and delighted in his family.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 10:00 AM in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Tomich and the Rev. Patrick Leonard officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. The Scott Air Force Base Funeral Honor Guard will conduct military services at the cemetery.

Born on February 6, 1939 in Quincy, James was a son of Earl J. and Gladyez R. Murry Otto.  Jim was born and raised in the First Christian Church, as a Disciple of Christ.  He married Sharon Keck on November 25, 1960 in the First Christian Church in Quincy, IL.  She survives.
He enjoyed attending and showing his classic car a 1951 Chevy Sedan Delivery winning many trophies over the years.  He was a member of the Quincy Masonic Lodge No. 296, Quincy Consistory, Ainad Shrine Temple of East St. Louis, Quincy High Twelve No. 40, Miriam White Shrine No. 3 White Shrine of Jerusalem, Grace Whipple Chapter No. 312 of the Order of the Eastern Star and an honorary member of Alpha Chapter No. 109.  Jim was very witty and quick to add humor to a story or experience.
He was employed by Motorola for 18 years, Gardner-Denver for 10 years and for the Masonic Temple for 26 years.  He and his wife Sharon were well known for their *Talk of the Town* Catering Service of 22 years and especially known for their catfish.

Survivors include his three children and ten grandchildren, Mark Schudel (Jessica) of Rochester, IL and their children Truman, Eleanor and Lincoln; Melissa Black (John) of Jenison, MI and their children Sean and Katherine; and David Schudel (Amy) of Peoria, IL and their children Joey, Alex, Bella, Abby and Sammy.  Also surviving is one brother John L. Schudel (Mary Margaret) of St. Louis, MO, two nephews, Nicholas Schudel and Michael Schudel; and one niece, Laura Schudel Reiland.
He was married to Mary Anne McCauslin for 20 years.
Services will be held Friday morning (August 30th) at the All Faiths Chapel at the Illinois Veterans Home.  Visitation will start at 9:30 AM with a funeral mass beginning at 10:30 AM.  Full Military Honors by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honor Detail.  Private burial will be Saturday in the South Macon Township Cemetery in Macon, Illinois.
Memorials may be made to Illinois Veterans Home Activities Fund in Fred Schudel’s name.
