Obituary Preview: Joan L. (Markel) Colangelo, 88, of Niagara Falls, N.Y., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 30, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 22, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Florence (Tardge) and Clarence Markel.
Joan was raised in the Town of Niagara attended local schools and was later a lifetime resident of the City of Niagara Falls. In earlier years, she worked at the former Walker's Laundry and in the 1950's she worked at International Paper where she met her husband. She was fondly remembered by many children as a crossing guard at 10th Street and Ferry Avenue. Joan was also a dedicated employee for many years holding the position of Deli Manager at the former Jubilee Supermarket in the City Market in the 1980's and 90's.
On May 26, 1956, she married her beloved husband the late Ralph G. Colangelo, Sr., at St. Joseph's Church. They celebrated 65 years of marriage together before his passing in 2021 and they lovingly raised five children. She is survived by her son Gregory (MaryAnn) Colangelo, Katherine (Brian, Sr., or as she called him "her favorite son-in-law") Gaffney, Thomas (Georgina) Colangelo and daughter in law Vittoria Colangelo. She was predeceased by her beloved sons David, Sr. (Vittoria) Colangelo and Ralph Colangelo, Jr. In addition, she is survived by six grandchildren, David (Heather) Colangelo, Jr., Dana Colangelo, Andrew Colangelo, Dominic (Elyse) Colangelo, Brian Gaffney, Jr., and Cole Gaffney; three great-grandchildren, Scott, David III and Adrianna Colangelo; and one great-great grandchild, Sophia Colangelo. Joan was also predeceased by beloved brothers, Donald (Frances), James (Amore) and Robert (Teresa) Markel. In addition, she is survived by many special and loved nieces and nephews.
Joan will forever be known and remembered for her selflessness, devotion and love that she poured into the lives of all that knew her, especially her husband and family, who were the center of her life. She created countless beautiful family memories that will always be treasured and remembered. She so loved family gatherings, watching the Buffalo Bills, was an avid reader and enjoyed her jigsaw puzzle hobby. Joan was a people person who always had an optimistic, outgoing and joyful personality and was always a joy to be around. She will be forever missed by many as she was a very special, loving and loved person. She was a parishioner of St. Raphael's R.C. Church in Niagara Falls.

He is survived by his son, Robert S. (Deborah Miller) Hlywa; grandsons, Nicholas and Joshua Hlywa; great-grandson, Milo Hlywa and brother, Michal Hlywa. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Agnes M. (Rydelek) Hlywa; three brothers and three sisters.

Eleanor was a member of the former St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish (Divine Mercy), along with the St. Stan's Senior Citizens and choir. She was also a past member of the Our Lady of Rosary seniors, Carborundum Alum Association, Plewski Post and the Echo Club. She loved to travel and read a lot of books.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, John Klimeczko, Edward Klimeczko, Stanley Klimeczko and Frank S. Klimeczko; sisters, Elsie (Henry) Matthews and Julia Fennell.

Born in Avoca, PA on October 25, 1931 she was the daughter of the late Michael A. and Mary V. Sulitka. She was a graduate of Avoca High School, received her registered nurse training from Sisters of Buffalo, and received a BSN from Canisius College and later her MSN.
Jo was a loving, nurturing, and caring person who always gave of herself and especially loved being a nurse! She was proud to have worked for 44 years as office nurse and surgical assistant to Buffalo ophthalmologist, Dr. Alvin Tabankin, retiring in 1998, yet continued to give generously of her time and nursing expertise by helping to take care of others. Jo also loved to travel and had a lifetime goal to try to visit every US state as well as several foreign destinations. She was a devout Catholic with a strong faith, was a member of St. John de LaSalle Parish in Niagara Falls and also enjoyed many years of community service and friendship through the Quota Club of Amherst.
She is survived by her step-children, Marc M. (Geraldine) Carpenter, Lynn (Mark) Seamonson, and Lea Ann (Anthony) DiNanno; her nieces and nephews who considered her like their second mother, Deborah (Jerry) Shovlin, Adrienne (John) Hafferty, Frank Krimowski and fiancée, Shaun Suddeth, and Lisa (Nick) Ardo; cousin Patricia (Joseph) Welch; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Jack H. Carpenter, who passed away in 2009. Jo and Jack both enjoyed sailing and motor boating and were members of the Buffalo Yacht Club. She was also predeceased by her loving sisters, Mrs. Mary Lou Krimowski, Mrs. Victoria Ose and her cousins, Mrs. Marie Leonard and Mrs. Carol Gibson.
Abiding by Josephine's wishes, there is NO PRIOR visitation, a memorial Mass with be celebrated at 10:30 AM Friday at St. John de LaSalle Parish, 8477 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. Born in Niagara Falls on February 23, 1955 he was the son of the late Peter M. and Caroline (Kolarz) Kaczmarczyk. Jerry attended local schools, graduating from Bishop Duffy High School in 1973. He married his wife Jill on February 5, 1977, during the blizzard of 77. In 1985 he completed his training in HVAC at Airco Technical School. He then worked as a bundler handler at Nabisco for 25 years until its closing in 2001, and for Tri City Rentals until his retirement in 2014. Jerry also enjoyed going to casinos and visited many.
He is survived by his wife, Jill M. (Caron) Kaczmarczyk; sister, Jeanne Kozminski; nephews, Cory Sommise, and Andrew Corieri; nieces, Gabriele Paonessa, Samantha Paonessa Wojtusiak, and Emily Corieri;sister-in-law's, Andrea(Chris Jillson)Sommise, Michele(David) Paonessa and Peggy Jean(Joseph) Corieri and his special cousins, Maryisia Curylo and family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Stanley Kaczmarczyk in 2008.

Diane was born in Toronto, Ontario on March 12, 1957. She spent her formative years in Toronto but lived almost all of her adult life in the United States, in Texas, Binghamton, Lewiston and Niagara Falls. She worked as a journalist for twenty-five years and won several awards for her newspaper writing.
She will be sadly missed by her husband, Melvin Miller, and by her brothers Bill (Debra) and John (Jill). She was predeceased by her parents, James and Margaret Hughes. She also leaves five nieces and a nephew who remember her thoughtful gifts when they were small: Christine (Karl), Julie, Lauren (Natasha), Kate, Anna, and Jack. She also leaves a great-niece, Alice.
Diane was very fond of dogs and cats and almost always had more than one pet. Donations in her memory to Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue or to the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center would be appreciated.
According to her wishes, Diane will be cremated and her remains interred at Meadowvale Cemetery in Mississauga, Ontario at a future date. Arrangements entrusted to ZAJAC FUNERAL HOME INC.

Dorothy loved life, spending time with her family brought her great joy. She spent many summers with her daughters and their families in New England. Celebrating milestone birthdays and seeing Broadway shows in NYC with “her girls” was a highlight in Dorothy’s life. Seeing and watching her grand & great- grandchildren grow was a gift to Dorothy.
