Scott Canler, Rev. James Harris, Rev. John Parks, Jr., and Rev. Michael Couch officiating. David was born on January 9, 1959, in Mobile, AL, and passed peacefully from this life on January 14, 2024. He was raised in Moss Point, MS, where he graduated from Live Oak Academy.
He was preceded in death by his father, David E. Rockhold, Sr., mother, Martha Jane Phillips Rockhold and wife, Vi Bradley Rockhold. Survivors include wife, Diane Rockhold; daughters, Natalie Canler and husband, Scott, Lindsey Vallery and husband, Jeffery; stepsons, Brook Johnson and wife, Dana, Benjamin Johnson and wife, Kelsie, and Aaron Johnson and fiancé, Amber; grandchildren, Jaxon, Ariana, Alexa, and Brycen Canler; step-grandchildren Dillon, Callie, Asher, and Dawson Johnson; sister, Vicky Hatten, and husband Andy; aunts, Shirley Stuart, and Brenda Rockhold; also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, special friends, his outlaw band, and many other family members.
David had some interesting career opportunities during his lifetime. As a young man, he worked construction. After he moved to Vicksburg, MS, David became an EMT and firefighter with the Vicksburg Fire Department. On the days he wasn’t working with the VFD, he worked with his uncle moving houses. After that, he completed the intense training to become a nuclear reactor operator, as well as a fire brigade member, at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in Port Gibson, MS, which was no easy feat. After transitioning to Winnsboro, LA, he continued working for Grand Gulf until he went to work as National Sales Manager for Healthworks Inc. He was a very good salesman and was also great at compiling data. Later, he formed his own company, Natural Precepts, and built it into a success through lots of hard work.
As a child, he loved trucks and tractors. He would build elaborate road systems with mountains, bridges, and buildings and he would play on those roads with his trucks and tractors, for hours on end. He loved traveling, playing games (and especially winning!), skiing and throwing unsuspecting people off boats into the water. He also loved to take his daughters on trips around the USA. From quite a young age, he loved a good playful tussle. Tussling with his Grandma Addie, his cousins, but mostly with Brenda, all over the house and the furniture, to the annoyance of anyone around. He loved his fast cars and had quite a few, like a Trans Am and a Saturn Sky. He drove his mother to her knees on more than a few late nights. He might have kept her prayed through during those years. David was great with numbers and he had the ability to mentally solve equations faster than could be done on a calculator. (This could also be very annoying to anyone trying to use that calculator to beat him to the answer.) He was a handsome guy and also quite close to perfect. If you didn’t believe it, you could just ask him. Or his grandmothers. Or his mom.
David spent many hours in study of the Scripture, was devout in his love and worship of God and support for his pastor. He was faithful to Apostolic Tabernacle from 1988 until his death. His last service found him worshipping his God with all his strength. Of all the memories he left behind, the greatest lesson learned was to love God, follow the man of God, and to trust God with all your heart. He believed that every battle could be won with prayer, worship, and praise. He felt that his healing would come to him through worship and we know that he did receive the ultimate healing. We have more to go to Heaven for than we did yesterday.
