Obituary Preview: Marjorie "Marge" May Chowning, 68 year old Grove resident, passed away Friday, November 20, 2020.  She was born in Mission, KS on December 8, 1951 to William and Helen Mize.  On January 25, 1970 she was united in marriage to Rodney “Rod” Chowning.  Marge was a member of the Coalition of Historical Trekkers, and a very talented seamstress and volunteered her talents to make costumes for the Playmakers plays and Pre 1840 reenactments.  She sewed and crocheted many quilts, pillows, and afghans for her loved ones to enjoy as well.
Survivors include her husband Rod of the home, her mother Helen Bellew, daughter Gina Kegin and husband Terry, son Rodney Chowning, Jr and wife Lisa, 4 grandchildren: Taylor, Rodney Michael, Blaise, and Caleb, 3 great grandchildren: Felicity, Jordan and Madison, siblings: Bill Mize, Jr and wife Susie, Kirk Mize, Joe Mize and wife Beverly, Debby Harms, and Steve Mize, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: Jerry Mason, age 78, Monkey Island, OK. passed away Thursday, October 15, 2020. He was born December 15, 1941 in Rural Delaware County, OK. to the late George Kenneth Mason and Luetta Atterberry Mason. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth W. Mason; and one sister, Mary Dagyal
Jerry married Colleen Venis on November 5,1970 in Miami, OK. She survives of the home.
Following his service in the U.S. Army, he worked in all aspects of the grocery market industry ending his career as a butcher. In addition to his grocery career, he also served as a traveling instructor teaching adult education for the Oklahoma Vocational- technical institute. Memberships were also held in the Grove American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.
He was one of the original organizers of the Monkey Island Fire Department in 1989, by going door-to-door to promote the organization of the department, becoming the 2nd Fire Chief and a training officer.
In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by one son, Alan W, Lawrence, New York, New York; one daughter, Linda Higginbotham and husband, Lawson, Bella Vista, AR; one granddaughter, Chryssa Handrick; three brothers, William E. Mason, Carl L. Mason and Danny J. Mason; and three sisters, Patsy A. Ivers, Peggy S. Reese and Pamela Belzer.
Graveside services are planned for Thursday, October 29, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. in the Rolston Cemetery, Monkey Island. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 21, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. in the Worley-Luginbuel Chapel, 711 S. Main, Grove, OK.

She loved gardening and created “Mimi’s Flower Farm”. Obituary Preview: Ruth Lucille “Lucy” Carter, 87 year old resident of Grove, Oklahoma, passed away on March 29, 2020 at the Grove Nursing Center.
Lucy was born on August 14, 1932 in Sikeston, Missouri.  She was the daughter of Robert Floyd Gwaltney and Mary Ruby (Campbell) Breiler. A small sample of the things that Lucy enjoyed include reading, traveling (as long as it didn’t’ require a plane), visiting her family back in her home town and trips to Las Vegas where she was pretty good at the slots.  She was an excellent cook and could whip up the best biscuits and gravy.  Lucy had a green thumb when it came to her house plants and her garden. Lucy also managed the Honey Creek Motel for several years. She enjoyed life and loved to laugh especially when wit her five boys! She was a wise and loving mother, adored by her sons.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dale, and two children; Terry Moore and Jeffery Carter. She is survived by her three children; Don Davidson and wife Sherri of San Diego, CA, Bob Davidson of Daytona Beach, FL and Michael Carter of Jay, OK, three siblings; Ace, Jimmy and Sue.  Lucy was blessed with six grandchildren; Connie, Becky, Shoshanna, Silas, Kevin and heather and two great grandchildren; Madison and Mason.
Lucy will be missed by all those she embraced on her life’s jouneys, especially her friends and family.
Private Memorial Services will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Family Funeral Home, Grove, Oklahoma.

Survivors include his significant other Doris Clifton, children: Patricia Teague-Cox, John E “Buzz” Bechtel, Jr., and Pam Bechtel, a great grandson Michael Teague, and 4 great great grandchildren as well as brother-in-law Don Hawthorne and wife Joyce.

Bill married Zelda May Thompson on December 3, 1955 in Pappilion, NE. she preceded him in death on September 20, 2007.
He owned and operated Miramar Auto Works, San Diego, CA, finishing his career at Miramesa Dodge as the body shop manager, before retiring to Grove.
In addition to his parents, and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Phillip Shaul; two grandchildren, Rochelle Gregson and Russell Gregson; and one brother, Robert Shaul.
Survivors include one son, William Dale Shaul, II; one daughter, Iluff Shaul and husband, Scott Coyner, Grove; two granddaughters, Amie Browning and Alisha Polk and husband, Billy; eight great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
No funeral services are planned.

He served in the United States Army for twenty two years. During his service he was awarded many medals and ribbons including the Purple Heart.
Survivors include four sons, Johnny Robitaille and wife, Amanda Phoenix City, AL, Ernest Robitaille, III, Smith Station, AL, Wilson Earl Robitaille, Atmore, AL, James Robitaille and wife, Angie, Phoenix City, AL; one daughter, Anna Marie Gunter and husband, Max, Mooresville, NC; two brothers, Alvin Charles Robitaille and wife, Sharon, and David Lewis Robitaille and wife, Caroline, both of Wyandotte, OK; three sisters, Mary Addison and husband, Ronald, Cassville, MO, Anna Louise Rollins, Wyandotte, and Diana Hankins and husband, Sam, Grove; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 27, 2019 in the Grove Worley-Luginbuel Chapel. Burial will follow in the Wyandotte Cemetery, Wyandotte, OK.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time.

Gerald (Gerry) Ransbottom, 92 year old Grove resident passed away Friday, August 30, 2019.  Gerry was born in Radical ( now rural Independence), Kansas, on June 30, 1927 to Earl and Thelma (Doakes) Ransbottom.  He attended elementary school in rural Independence, secondary school and junior college in Independence.  He was a member of the Independence High School Class of 1944. Upon graduation from IHS, he enlisted and served in the Naval Air Force until July 1946.  On June 15, 1947, Gerry married Barbara Ringle , also of Independence.  They are the parents of one daughter, Vicky and two sons, James (Jim) of Tulsa, OK and Kent (deceased); they have two grandchildren Chris and Erica.
Following their marriage, Gerry and Barbara moved to Pittsburg, KS where Gerry continued his college education at Pittsburg State University and Barbara continued her employment with Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator. Upon graduation, they moved back to Independence.  Gerry taught and coached at Wayside High School for four years and Barbara continued to work for Southwestern Bell.  Gerry joined Sinclair Oil in 1953 as supervisor of tax and statistics.  In 1965, he was transferred to Tulsa, OK as assistant tax manager.  In 1969, following Sinclair’s merger with Atlantic Richfield, he was transferred to Dallas, TX as chief accountant; in 1972 to Anchorage, AK as business manager; in 1977 to Dallas, TX as manager of accounting and information services; in 1981 to Brisbane, Australia as manager of finance and administration; and in 1983 to Dallas, TX as tax manager.  In December 1985, Gerry elected to take early retirement and served as a consultant to Atlantic Richfield for the year of 1986.  From 1994 through 1997, he served as executive vice president of Los Angeles Export Terminal, commuting to San Pedro, CA.  In 1996, Gerry and Barbara moved to Grove, OK.
Gerry and Barbara were active members in the Lutheran Church until their move to Grove, where they became members of the United Methodist Church and actively participated and served in essentially every area of service.
Gerry was active in Boy Scouting; serving as Cub Master, Scout Master, Institutional Representative and as a Council Training Leader.  He was a life member of the American Legion and served as the Independence Post #175 Commander as well as Montgomery County Commander.  He was an active member of the national Petroleum Accountant’s Society, serving as the Alaska state chair as well as serving on the national board.  His hobbies were golfing, leather crafting, stained glass and, most importantly, his family and church.
After moving to Grove, Gerry served as a volunteer for the Integris Grove Hospital.  To date he has amassed over 7,500 hours.  For the year, 2003, he was honored to receive the Volunteer of the Year Award.
Gerry is survived by his wife, Barbara of the home, daughter Vicky, Howe, OK, son Jim and wife Laura, Tulsa, OK; grandson Chris and wife, Louren of Midlothian, TX ; granddaughter Erica, Tulsa, OK;,sister Barbara Unruh and husband Earl, Grove, OK; and many nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Thelma Ransbottom and one son Kent.
