Obituary Preview: Mary Jane Nelson, age 94, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022, at her home in Austin. Mary was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to Manuel and Paula (Rubalcaba) Gonzalez on October 28, 1927. She graduated from Albert Lea High School. On February 18, 1949, Mary was united in marriage to Donald Nelson at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church in Albert Lea. Their union was blessed with six children. Mary worked as the secretary for the Dean at the Austin Community College for 22 years. She was the president of the union. Mary was an avid collector of marbles, granite eggs, and crystals. She enjoyed going to rummage sales, having lunch with her friends, and driving with her husband every summer to see their children. Mary also loved to read and exercise; but her passion was aerobics. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Thomas (Kim) Nelson of Austin, MN, Sharon (Maurice) Gerek of Delray Beach, FL, Craig (Peggy) Nelson of Tampa, FL, Rick (Tamara Peasha) Nelson of Austin, MN, Patrick Nelson of Keewatin, MN, and John (Lynn) Nelson of Eau Claire, WI; 12 grandchildren, Jenne Harris, Angela Cole, Allie Puyleart, Tarsha LeBarron, Dustin Nelson, Sam Nelson, Julia Collins, Kyle Gilbert, Shaina Sakiman, Christopher Eckhoff, Abby Eckhoff, and Tucker Nelson; 10 great grandchildren; brothers, Sam Gonzalez and John Gonzalez. She was preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Paula Gonzalez; husband, Donald Nelson in 2010; grandson, Jacob Nelson and Kirk Gilbert; sister, Margaret Gulbrandson; and brothers, Eli, Jay, and Peter.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Visitation will take place from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 25, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Services are prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.

David William Baumgartner - February 20, 1933 - April 21, 2022

Obituary Preview: David William Baumgartner, age 89, of Mason City, Iowa, formerly of Brownsdale, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Good Shepherd Health Care in Mason City, Iowa. David was born February 20, 1933, the son of Ervin and Marie (Krejci) Baumgartner in Austin, Minnesota. He graduated from Austin High School. David then went on to serve his country in the United States Army as a Tank Gunner from 1953 until 1955. On June 28, 1953, he was united in marriage to Audrey J. Steinbach at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waltham. Audrey passed away on July 7, 1993. He then married Dorothy (Scarrow) Woodward on April 29, 1995, at Trinity Lutheran Church. David made his living as a farmer and retired at the age of 50. David and Dorothy relocated to Mason City on December 15, 2018. His favorite pastimes included hunting and fishing. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Baumgartner of Mason City, IA; daughter, Jodi (Jim) Thoma of Casper, WY; son, Jim (Sheila) Baumgartner of Austin, MN; stepchildren, Monty (Sara) Woodward, Robin (Mike) McCann, Tim (Nanci) Woodward, and Gloria (Dennis Bailey) Rish; four grandchildren, Shawn (Jaime) Torres, Zachary Kestner, Laci Baumgartner, and Molly (Lincoln Sanders) McCann; three great grandchildren, Ross Torres, Celeste Torres, and Lexi Baumgartner; sister-in-law, JoAnne Baumgartner. In school he played hockey, baseball and football. Following high school, he attended Mankato State University and University of North Dakota. He worked for Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Austin and Albert Lea as a Housekeeping Supervisor. In 2016, John met the love of his life Brandi Morse and the couple married two years later on October 6, 2018, at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Waltham, Minnesota. He loved sports, including watching the twins and high school hockey. John enjoyed fishing and camping. He loved spending time with his family and was always genuinely happy. John will be dearly missed all that knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Brandi Delaney of Austin; daughter, Areya Delaney, the couple also cared for their foster daughter; parents, Paul and Janet Delaney of Rochester; brother, Christopher (Nicole) Delaney of Denver, Colorado; maternal grandma, Alice Tuschoff; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jerry T. and Gwyn Morse of Austin; sister-in-law, Rachel (Patrick) Dominguez of Janesville; nephew, Alex Karow of Austin; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. John was preceded in death his maternal grandpa, Merle Tuschoff; paternal grandparents, Cyril and Mary Delaney.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin. Visitation will take place from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Obituary Preview: Ramon Lee Crews, age 61, of Waltham, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022, in Waltham. Ramon was born in Austin, Minnesota, to Gerald and Leona (Sargent) Crews on September 16, 1960. He attended Austin High School and obtained his GED in 1979. He then went on to attend Riverland Vocational Technical School and received a certificate in graphics printing. On April 21, 1979, he married Susan Marie Ulwelling at Our Lady of Loretto in Brownsdale, Minnesota and was blessed with three children. Ramon grew up in the junk business. At an early age Ramon went to work for his father in the family business, Crews Auto Salvage, which Ramon took over as co-owner along with his brothers, Bob and Jim. He then spent several years trucking until 2009, when he started working alongside his son, Jesse at Imperial Sand in Waltham. He enjoyed projects, old cars, history, and helping his son with demo cars. Ramon’s kids and grandkids were his pride and joy and he loved attending their activities whether it was demo derbies or sports; he was always proud of their achievements. Ramon was a big talker; he enjoyed having at least a ten-minute conversation with every person he knew or met. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Timothy "Tim" Kelly Bass - November 05, 1947 - April 14, 2022

Obituary Preview: Timothy Kelly Bass, age 74, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester with his wife Sandy Kae and all of his children at his side.
Tim was born November 5, 1947, in Boone, Iowa to Ray and Audrey (Kelly) Bass. Tim attended Grade School at Maple Grove Elementary School in Des Moines, Iowa.  He moved to Minnesota at the age of 10, and attended one year of school in Blooming Prairie before transferring to the Claremont School District. Tim graduated from Claremont High School in 1966.
Tim started his military career being drafted into the armed service, he joined the Army and reported to duty on September 20, 1967.  He was honorably discharged on August 28, 1969. Tim spent his entire military career in Erlangen, Germany.  He was with the Tank Division first being a driver and then promoted to lead gunner on the lead tank, and was a member of the Screaming Eagles. While there he was able to visit many beautiful places with his favorite being in the mountains of Zugspitze where you could stand and see the countries of Germany, Austria, Italy and Czechoslovakia from one spot.
In 1967 returned home and to his job at Crenlo in Rochester before taking a new position with Peoples Natural Gas/Minnesota Energy Resources.  He worked there for 40 years retiring in 2012.
On July 13, 1974, in Blooming Prairie Timothy was married to the love of his life, Sandy Kae Lindquist of Blooming Prairie at the First Lutheran Church.  They would make Blooming Prairie their home for the next 48 years during this time they were blessed with four wonderful children, Heidi, Heather, Nicholas and Tyler; as well as seven grandchildren.  Tim and Sandy Kae were lucky enough to renew their wedding vows at one of Tim's favorite places, on the beaches of Oahu, Hawaii on July 12, 2019, for their 45th Anniversary.
Tim was very active in his community and church.  He was a board member and member at large at the United Methodist Church of Blooming Prairie and Lansing until the churches closed.  Then he became a member of the First Lutheran Church of Blooming Prairie.  He was a member of the American Legion, the Blooming Prairie JC's, earning one of its highest awards the John H. Armbuster KEYMAN Award in 1984, and received the JC's Statesman Award in 1985.  Tim was also very active in the Chamber of Commerce in Blooming Prairie, working at various events and being very involved with the 4th of July celebration being both Chairman and Parade Co-Chair with his wife for over 20 years. He was a 50-year member of the Mason's, serving as Master three times for Prairie Lodge #123 and was currently a member of Fidelity Lodge #39 of Austin.  He was a member for over 25 years with the Order of the Eastern Star #177 serving as Worthy Patron in 1977-1978.  Tim was very active in the Shrine, belonging to the Osman Temple Shrine, being a member for 49 years and receiving the highest honors they give known as the Temple Jewel in 2018 only being the 34th to receive this award in the history of the Osman Shrine at it's time.  He was a member of the Rochester Dragon Patrol serving as President in 2018, the Rochester Zagalas, the Austin Shrine Club and the Oriental Band.
When not volunteering, Tim was supporting and attending all of his kids and grandkids school and sporting events regardless of where they might be.  He was a very active with the Boys Scouts being a Scout Leader for over 10 years.  He enjoyed Corvettes, classic cars and boats.  He loved quality family time boating on the Mississippi River in La Crosse, Wisconsin where they docked their boat for over 18 years.
Tim's pride and joy are his kids, he loved them so much and was excited to see them succeed in life with a good education and a good job; only to be prouder when he was promoted to being called Papa and Papa Sandy by Brooks. After his retirement he took on the new job of chauffeur, gladly taking his grandkids to preschool or picking them up from it, to dance class, or whatever event they needed to go to.  He also became and extra Papa to little ones that needed one when they came to his home for Daycare.
Timothy is survived by his wife Sandy Kae of almost 48 years of Blooming Prairie, Heidi and Brett Zimmerman of Cannon Falls, Heather and Tony Schiller of Blooming Prairie, Nicholas Bass of Waterville, Tyler Bass of Minneapolis.  Seven grandchildren, Jeffry Zimmerman, Kendahl Zimmerman, Sophia Schiller, Isabella Schiller, Brooks Zimmerman, Elliot Schiller and Lila Schiller.  Brother and Sister in-laws Larry and Annette Lindquist, Lee and Sandi Lindquist as well as many nieces and nephews and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Audrey Bass, in-laws Edward and Virginia Lindquist, Sister and Brother in-law Marsha and Stan Pacolt.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 6th at the First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 7th at 11:00 a.m. with a one hour visitation before the service at the church. Military honors will be given at the church following the funeral service.  A graveside service will be held at a later date.
Memorials are preferred to the family to be given in Tim's name to the Shriner's Children’s Twin Cities, Blooming Prairie Ambulance, Cannon Falls and Blooming Prairie Athletics.
A special thank you - for the excellent care that was given to Tim during his illnesses and hospitalizations over the past two years, to the Blooming Prairie Ambulance Crews, Mayo Health System in Austin and to their great ER teams, and to the St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester for the compassion and excellent care he received on 6-B Mary Brigh, and to his doctors and nurses, especially Doctors Carol and Scott Holtz.

Marjorie was born on February 5, 1927, to Gerhard Irving Ulve and Alice Mae (Westland) Ulve in Lake Mills, Iowa. She was baptized at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills on April 3, 1927, by Rev. O.O. Sletten. Marjorie was confirmed May 10, 1942, at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, Minnesota by Rev. Sigurd T. Sorenson and graduated from Albert Lea High School. On June 21, 1947, Marjorie was united in marriage to William R. Schaffer by Rev. John Oliphant in Dodge Center, Minnesota. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin, Minnesota. Marge retired from Hormel Foods Corporation on August 31, 1984, after 35 years. Together, Marge and Bill enjoyed traveling, downhill skiing, and spending winters in Tucson, AZ where they met many new friends. They did not have any children, but their nieces and nephews were their pride and joy. Marjorie will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

James Lee Christianson - September 23, 1961 - April 07, 2022

Obituary Preview: James Lee Christianson, age 60, of Austin, Minnesota, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, April 7, 2022, in Owatonna, Minnesota. James was returning from work to his home in Austin when he suffered a fatal heart attack exasperated by high blood pressure.
James was born September 23, 1961, to Arnold and Rayma (Peterson) Christianson in Austin, Minnesota.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving three years in Germany and Texas. He enjoyed outdoor activities - fishing, canoeing, exploring the MN boundary water. For quiet time activities he liked to watch movies and learning to use his computer. He loved the many dogs he raised throughout the years, especially his last dog, Rusty an American Spaniel.
James worked the last 25 years for Viracon in Owatonna.  He was the licensed boiler operator for the night shift.  He liked the work and did not mind working the hours from 6 pm until 7 am.
He will be greatly missed by his brothers and sisters, Marcia Christianson, Larry Christianson, Randy Christianson, Jeanne (Tim) Hutchins; many nieces and nephews, Bonnie (Mark) Coughlin, Nicki Stadig, Candace Christianson, John Christianson, Samantha (Zak) Hanegraaf, Katie Hutchins; great nieces and great nephews, Cierra Coughlin, Skyler Coughlin, MacKenna Stadig, Brenna Peterson, Peyton Handke, Olivia Christianson, David Christianson, Dylan Christianson, Lilly Christianson, Parker Brody-Hutchins, Blakely Hanegraaf, Emmerie Hanegraaf, and Asher Hanegraaf. James was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Rayma Christianson and a great niece, Kylie Coughlin.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 18, 2022, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin.  Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be in Red Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Austin. Memorials can be given to Mower County Humane Society or the American Heart Association. Arlen "Al" Dean Helfrich - April 09, 1935 - April 06, 2022

Obituary Preview: Arlen “Al” D. Helfrich, age 86, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, in Austin. Al was born April 9, 1935, in St Paul, MN to Frank and Mary Genevieve (Chase) Helfrich. Following high school graduation, Al served in the United States Army. On September 26, 1960, Al married Jane Budd and together had three children. Together for many years they owned The Floor Shop. Then Al and Jane ran Drapery Services of Austin.  Upon retirement their son, Mark, took over the family business. Al enjoyed traveling, golfing, and fishing. He also loved woodworking and built his own furniture. Al will be remembered for his fun-loving personality and his ability to light up every room in which he entered. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Al is survived by his children, Barbie Witt, Mark Helfrich, and Matt Helfrich; and one granddaughter, Lexie Jane Helfrich. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane, on March 17, 2022; parents, Frank and Gen; and sister, Laureen “Laurie” Modderman.
The service for Al will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Services are prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.

She was always there for her family and was always caring of those around her. Heidi enjoyed reading, traveling to see her grandkids, and playing Sims. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Obituary Preview: Lawrence Joseph Ignatius “Bud” Charnecki, age 94, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin, Minnesota. Lawrence was born on April 3, 1927, on the farm in East Chain Township, Minnesota, to Frank and Frances (Petrowiak) Charnecki. He had two sisters, AnnaMae Whetstone and Louise Cassidy. As a young boy, he attended a one-room schoolhouse. He worked on the family farm. While he drove tractor, he would sing Ernest Tub songs. In 1945, he joined the United States Navy. He left home a 17-year-old boy and returned home a 19-year-old man in 1947. He went overseas while proudly serving in the Navy on the U.S.S. Providence during World War II. After serving in the Navy, Larry was united in marriage to Velma Lucille “Snooks” Krueger, on April 22, 1948. They went on to have six children. Larry was a self-taught carpenter. That led him to Blue Earth, Minnesota, from Fairmont, to work for Lysne Construction from 1950-1955. In 1955, he was transferred by Lysne Construction to Austin, Minnesota, to build St. Augustine’s School building. In the early 60s, Larry worked for Hormel Foods in Austin as a supervisor for Hormel construction until he retired. After retirement, he continued his carpentry work. He was roofing houses well into his 80s. As a young man, Larry enjoyed playing guitar and singing country-western music with his brother-in-law, Sony, and his uncle, Mike. Larry and Velma enjoyed going out dancing together while listening to their son’s band, The DC Drifters. For fun, Larry liked to go fishing and bowling. His favorite pastimes were following horse and dog racing and playing blackjack. Larry was a devout Catholic as were his parents. He was very family oriented.
He is survived by his wife, Velma Lucille (Krueger) Charnecki; sons, Dennis (Connie) Charnecki, Duane Charnecki (Deb Clark), David (Ann) Charnecki, and Daniel Charnecki; daughter, Darla Charnecki (Dave Meyer); grandchildren, Kevin (Maryann) Eastburn, Michael Loeding, Michelle (Elijah) Charnecki-Carranza, Christopher (Mera) Charnecki, Holly Charnecki, Haley Charnecki, Dylan Charnecki, and Hunter Charnecki; great grandchildren, Justin, Miranda, Jordan, Dylan, Bradley, Micayla, Jaxon, Jayden, Pike, Roe, Primrose, and Levi; great-great grandson, Zion; and favorite dog, Emma. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Francis (Petrowiak) Charnecki; daughter, Debra Kay Charnecki; daughter-in-law, Fran Charnecki; grandson, Dustin Grothe; great grandson, Nickolas Loeding; sisters, AnnaMae Whetstone and Louise Cassidy.
A memorial gathering will be held from 11:00-1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2022, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Austin. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.

Obituary Preview: Nylva Arlene Pirmantgen, age 86, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at St. Mark’s Living in Austin. She was born at home in Madelia, Minnesota on February 15, 1936, the oldest of two children of Fred and Gertrude (Peacock) Elkins. The family moved to a farm East of Dexter in 1942, where she attended Elkton High School and graduated in 1954 as valedictorian of the class. She did her homework by candlelight for two years until electricity was installed. She came to Austin, Minnesota shortly after to attend Austin Junior College for 2 years. Following college, she got a job at KAUS where she met Tad Anthony Pirmantgen. They were married on August 31, 1958, at the Methodist Church in Grand Meadow. Nylva had many passions in life including, playing musical instruments such as, flute, cornet, and trumpet in school, along with the accordion, guitar, and organ. She also loved reading, sewing, needle point, knitting, camping, and her pets. Nylva met many friends through her job as a crossing guard for the Austin Public School system and being a member of TOPS. Nylva and Tad had many spare children and were always happy to feed or shelter anyone in need. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Nylva was loved and will be dearly missed by many and all.
Survivors include her sons, Bradley Pirmantgen of Austin, MN, Brian (Dorothy) Pirmantgen of Austin, MN, and Kelly Pirmantgen of Austin, MN; daughter, Toni (Sandy) Warren of Taylorsville, NC; nine grandchildren ranging from ages 41 to 14 years of age; and one brother, Delton Elkins of Lapeer, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Gertrude Elkins; and her husband, Tad Anthony Pirmantgen.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service. She was born February 10, 1929, in Lyon County, Minnesota to George and Alma Hammer, one of four children. Ruth was baptized and confirmed at Hemnes Lutheran Church, attended country school, and graduated from Minneota High School. After graduating from the Minnesota School of Business, she worked as a secretary at General Mills.
On June 25, 1949, she was married to Kermit Hoversten, and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary prior to his death. Throughout her life, Ruth's heart overflowed with love, compassion, and patience. She was a devoted wife to her lifelong love, Kermit, and a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
An avid reading enthusiast with a penchant for crossword puzzles, Ruth had many gifts and talents including sewing for her family, baking delicious pies and cakes, and making ceramic creations. Ruth could be a fierce competitor and played bridge with friends for many years.
Her husband called her thick chestnut hair her "crowning glory," and Ruth had an impeccable sense of fashion style, always taking care with her appearance. When "The Lawrence Welk Show" came on the television, the living room was transformed into a terpsichoreon ballroom as she danced with her favorite partner, Kermit.
With her tender heart, she loved children and cats, and both often sought her out. Her smile was radiant, and she was kind to all.
Ruth is survived by her seven children, David (Nancy) Hoversten of Austin, MN, Michael (Sandra) Hoversten of Champlin, MN, Kim (Martin) Lucin of Jackson, MN, Kevin Paul Hoversten of Austin, MN, Amy (Rolf) Morck of Mondovi, WI, Jill (Gregg) Nafstad of Plymouth, MN, and Kevin Glen Hoversten of Roswell, GA; 17 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Garfield Hoversten and Vincent (Marge) Hoversten; many nieces and nephews; and friend, Lois Penning.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit Hoversten; parents, George and Alma Hammer; siblings, Allan Hammer, Mary Lou Moccia, and Janice Kingsley; and many beloved brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Austin. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin. Please send memorials to the charity or recipient of the donor's choice. On September 26, 1960, Jane married Arlen “Al” Helfrich and together had three children. Together for many years they owned The Floor Shop. Then Jane and Al ran Drapery Services of Austin. Her extended family also owned and operated Deutschman Jewelers in Albert Lea, Minnesota, which was originally owned by her grandfather. Jane loved to entertain, golfing, and gardening. Traveling was another love of Jane’s. She enjoyed traveling to Europe, seeing the Eiffel Tower, and on one of the trips the Queens Band played for them. She also enjoyed trips to Colorado to visit her kids. Jane was a member of the Business Professional Women’s Club, Zonta Club, and the Hormel Women’s Association. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband, Al Helfrich; children, Barbara Witt, Mark Helfrich, and Matt Helfrich; one granddaughter, Lexie Jane Helfrich; and one brother, Jim Budd. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Margaret Budd.

They were blessed with three children. Douglas worked for various area construction companies for many years and then worked at Walmart for over 10 years until retiring due to declining health. Douglas was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Austin and was a part of many pigeon racing clubs. Douglas was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

On September 2, 1961, he married Shirley Read at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Elkton, Minnesota. Their union was blessed with three children. The couple lived in the Dexter and Elkton area until moving to Austin in 1974. Duane worked for Crenlo then Hormel Foods. He continued his education at the Albert Lea Vocational Technical School and then began a 20-year career with Austin Public Schools in building and grounds maintenance, retiring in 2006. Duane was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin, where he ushered. He loved golfing, fishing, hunting, and enjoyed bowling. Duane will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Jendersee of Austin, MN; children, Carmen Christensen of Clarks Grove, MN, Jay (Katheryn) Jendersee of Prior Lake, MN, and Candis (Timothy) Johnson of St. Louis Park, MN; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two brothers, Melvin (Gloria) Jendersee and Harvard Jendersee. Jeanine Phyllis Stelter was born April 28, 1929, in Lyon County, Marshall, Minnesota, the daughter of Ernest and Gina (Riste) Stelter. She graduated in 1946 from Lynd High School and went on to attend Mankato Teachers College. After college, and at the age of 19, Jeanine began her teaching career at Milroy and then at Worthington until her marriage to Ramsey on June 26, 1951, in Island Lake Township in Lyon County. Their union was blessed with one son, Kevin. Jeanine was a substitute teacher in many elementary schools in Austin. In 1975, she began a career in real estate that went on for many years. Jeanine was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, where she was active in WELCA and Circle. She enjoyed reading, biking, and traveling in the RV. Jeanine enjoyed technology and was an early adapter of the personal computer, IPad and Alexa.  She was a voracious reader and even though her vision began to deteriorate she was able to continue to read using the audio book program through the public library as well as other online apps.  She lived on her own in the Village Cooperative and was very independent. Jeanine will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her son, Kevin (Susan) Johnson of Great Falls, MT; two grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Donna Stelter of Mesa, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Gina Stelter, husband Ramsey Johnson and her brother Duane Stelter.

Douglas "Doug" Edward Chaffee - December 14, 1946 - March 05, 2022

Obituary Preview: Douglas “Doug” Edward Chaffee, age 75, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Good Samaritan Society – Comforcare in Austin after a brief battle with a rare form of leukemia. Doug was born on December 14, 1946, in Austin, Minnesota to Warren and Jeanette (Lerud) Chaffee. He was baptized into the Christian faith at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. He went on to be confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minnesota. Doug attended Shaw Elementary School and the 7th grade at Austin Central. His family moved to an acreage near Lyle, Minnesota, where he attended Lyle Public School and graduated in 1964. Doug also attended the junior college in Austin for a short time. Doug married the love of his life, Joanne Hotson, (high school sweethearts) on February 26, 1966. They were married for 56 years and raised three beautiful children. Doug began his employment with the George A. Hormel Company in July of 1965. He worked there doing various jobs for 44 years. Doug enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, horseshoes, woodworking, and bird watching. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren at their sporting events and drama productions. Doug truly loved talking with his many friends and family. He loved his Lord Jesus and looked forward to entering heaven. He was a faithful member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle for over 40 years, where he taught Sunday School 20 years and served as a deacon. Doug currently attended Grace Lutheran Church in Austin, where he attended regularly with Joanne. He enjoyed helping with the church rummage sale every year and met some very “special” friends. Doug was a kind and humble man and was loved by many. God has received a most beautiful and grateful angel. He will be missed by many.
Survivors include his loving wife, Joanne Chaffee; children, Gina (Dan) Richardson, Dean (Jill) Chaffee, and Laura (John Krull) Chaffee; 10 grandchildren, Shaun (Stephanie) Lenway, Eric (Katie) Lenway, Tyler (Tamara) Richardson, Desiree Richardson, Morgan Chaffee, Sarah Chaffee, Cash Day, Beau Chaffee, Cody Krull, and Wyatt Krull; precious great grandson, Malloy Lenway; also, as Doug always said, “My favorite sister,” Linda (Lonnie) DeLaney.
