Beatriz Maturino Contreras - August 20, 1936 - March 22, 2024

Departed: 03/22/2024 (Soledad)
Obituary Preview: Beatriz Maturino Contreras, 87, of Gonzales, passed away at home, March 22, 2024.  Beatriz began her life journey on August 20, 1936 in Anaheim, California to parents, Felipe Maturino and Esther Sotelo.
Beatriz along with her late husband, Onofre Duenas Contreras, provided a supportive home in raising four children; Onofre Contreras Jr, Esther Galindo, Alicia Cadriel, and Sara Turner (Donald).  She was the core in providing an environment of love and compassion.  Her love was especially expressed in her role as "Nana" to her six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She was much loved by family and friends.  It was this love that was expressed as kindness, empathy, gentleness, and sweetness.  First time visitors to the home would often comment on leaving "your Mom (Nana) is so sweet".  She carried inside her a love for people (family, friends, co-workers and occasional strangers) that was tangible in her warm hugs.  Her love of people is what truly defined Beatriz.  She was an incredible hard worker, having worked many years as a farm worker while also preparing the morning and evening needs.  Especially notable were her incredible delicious flour tortillas, with co-workers of her children often asking "Did you bring some of your Mom's tortillas?"  In various jobs such house cleaner, school cafeteria worker (to get a discount at a parochial school), taking care of elderly in a convalescent home, picking crops, or her last job with Monterey Vineyards (where she made lifelong friends - she did them all with pride and in knowing she was creating a better life for her children.  But what ultimately defines Beatriz is her humanity and love for others, her kindness and sweetness.
Beatriz Sotelo Maturino Contreras is also survived by Maturino siblings, Felipe, Adela, Gloria, Michael, Gloria Ruth, Pete and Ruth.
