He was joined in marriage to Kathleen Diane and from this union of 50 plus years was born two sons, David Scott & Jason Kyle and one daughter Kimberly Dawn. His loving grandsons Jaden & Alex held a special place in his heart, and he was a dad to his nephew James. Alfred was born in Eufaula, Alabama and had the privilege
of being lovingly nurtured by Mama Annie & Daddy Caesar.
Alfred graduated from TV McCoo High School in Eufaula. AL. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Talladega College in Talladega, AL, where he pledged the Gamma Gamma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Kean University, Union, NJ. He began his professional career as a science teacher in the Irvington School District. He served as Assistant Principal at Chancellor Elementary and Myrtle Ave Middle School and as Principal of Florence & Thurgood Marshall Elementary Schools.
Alfred was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving 4 years of active duty. After being Honorably Discharged, he served in the Naval Reserve for 16 years.
Alfred was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, corn hole, shooting pool, golfing He shared his time, skill and love of sports with his kids, grandkids and young mentees. He loved the blues and the Atlanta Braves.
Alfred accepted Christ and was reared in St. John AME Church in Eufaula, AL. and he was a supporter of Israel Memorial AME Church, Newark & Stroudsburg Alliance Church, Stroudsburg, PA. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Kathleen, his sons, David (Candice), Jason, daughter, Kim; Grand- sons Jaden and Alex; sisters, Lois, Annie Pearl, Elaine, Deniese; sister in law Denise Coleman (Leroy); nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Obituary Preview: Dijon Harris was born on July 11, 1993 in Brooklyn, New York to his beloved mother Willena Harris. Dijon was a loving, happy, and caring son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend.
Dijon loved to play all of his favorite video games, ride his bike, and play basketball. To earn money, he became well known for his ability to sell cookies and candy throughout his neighborhood. He was highly favored and loved by all who knew him.
In 2014, Dijon graduated from B.S.C.D High School. Despite his intellectual disability, he received his high school diploma and was proud of his accomplishment, as was the entire family.
As the loving mother’s oldest son, Dijon spent most of the time home with his mother and family. He was truly an amazing young man who was always smiling and seeing the good in everyone and everything.
Dijon leaves behind his mother; Willena Harris, sister; Bettie Harris [Nard], and his only niece; Miyah Ward, his buddy and brother; Elijah Harris, aunts; Keisha Harris, Mercedes Goldstein, Hope Goldstein, Jasmin [John] Goldstein-Fernandez, uncles; William Harris, Lee Goldstein, and Wayne Stewart, cousins; Shakeema Harris,Jahmel Williams, Horace Williams, ShaQuasha and Shaquan Goldstein, Tremayne [Tyeisha]George, Tamika George, Damien George and Gabriel Love; and an extended host of cousins from Virginia.
Dijon was always surrounded by a loving and large circle of family and will be sadly missed by Ca’miya, K’meera, Me’lly, Ja’meera, Tionni, Aiden, Emilia, Elliana, Taniyah, Brianna, Ijahnae, and Linda.His love and friendship spread to Massachusetts where he was adored by Christie (“Crispy”) Billetter-Brown, Chris Brown, Orion Billetter, Rob MacLean and “Aunt” Lynne West.

Richard "Mickey" Rodd, Sr. - June 29, 1932 - April 27, 2024

Obituary Preview: Richard Rodd, Sr. known to most as “Mickey” entered into eternal rest on April 27, 2024. The only son of the late Annie Howell and Isee “IP” Rodd was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on June 29, 1932. Mickey and his father IP shared the same birthday.
As a youngster, Mickey was educated in the Newark, NJ school district and graduated from Southside High School. He served in the United States Armed Forces and was honorably discharged as a Corporal from the Army on February 16, 1955. He returned to New Jersey where he began employment that included sales, transportation, and real estate. This hard worker was recognized as one of the first men of color to drive a truck for Coca Cola Inc, in Newark, New Jersey. He later became a proud member of the Teamsters Local Union No. 560. Mickey retired from Roadway Express Trucking in 1999.
Mickey was a charismatic individual who could spark up a conversation ranging from current affairs to historical events even if you were a perfect stranger. He enjoyed reading, traveling, collecting vintage artifacts, visits to his favorite casinos, nature, geography, world history, and a fascination with animals. He also loved spending time with family and friends where he was known to party and have a good time. One of the hallmarks of Mickey was his infectious laugh which resonated with a snarly chuckle everyone adored.
Mickey was preceded in death by his siblings Lillian Rodd, Diane Rodd, and Sonny Rodd. He leaves to mourn his only surviving elder sister Dorothy (Rodd) Smart.
Mickey was predeceased by his second wife Dolores Mae (Smith) Rodd, Stepson Frank A. Murphy Jr. and Stepdaughter Rosemary (Hardison) Branch.
From this union his grandsons, Adam, Robert, Gibran, Micheal, great-grandchildren, host of relatives, and friends are left to cherish Mickey and Delores memory.
Mickey was also predeceased by his daughter Sylvia Rodd (Fletcher), son Gerald W. Rodd, daughter Deborah Ann Rodd, and grandson Rashidi Rodd.
Also, from this union his first wife, Marilyn L. (Milteer) Rodd, sons Richard R. Rodd Jr. (Diane) and Kevin S. Rodd (Natalie), daughter Deborah J. Rodd, RN, (Thomasine), grandchildren Blair, Richard III, Javon, Nicolas, Marcus, bonus grandchildren, great-grandchildren, bonus great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, host of other much-loved relatives and friends are left to cherish his memory.
A special thank you to long-time friend Mr. Bill Taylor for his dedicated friendship to our beloved Mickey.

Obituary Preview: Annie Louise Crenshaw Byrd, a nurturing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, closed her eyes to this world for the last time and entered into rest on the 16th of April, 2024, in Cookeville, Tennessee.
On December 30, 1930, in the small town of Frisco City, Alabama, Annie's life journey was one marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and the simple pleasures of life.
She carried the values instilled by her mother, Irene Greene Broughton Crenshaw, throughout her entire life. Annie served 20 years as a Security Officer in the public school system in Patterson, NJ.
Annie was married to the late William Byrd Sr. for 30 years in which time they had 6 children. Together, they were a lighthouse of stability and affection for their children, William (Suzette) Byrd Jr of Cookeville and Darryl Quinton (Helena) Byrd of Columbia, SC; daughters, Alecia Yvonne Byrd (Gregory Sr.) Stubbs of Cookeville, Letitia Lynn (James) Bandy of Murfreesboro, and Brenda Henry of Cookeville. Annie also found joy in the relationships with her brother, Robert Henry Crenshaw, and her late sister, Laura Crenshaw, and welcomed the addition of each new leaf on her family tree, which included 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Annie gracefully navigated the sorrow of the passing of her second oldest daughter, Wanda Miller, and her siblings, Laura Jean Crenshaw, John Clinton Crenshaw, RD Crenshaw, Jr, and Alexander Crenshaw, along with the dearly departed grandchildren Darryl Quinton Byrd Jr, Lethanial Micah Byrd, and LeAndra Miller, carrying their memories in her heart.
Annie was a faithful, dedicated witness of Jehovah for 38 years. Her spiritual life was interwoven with her community, providing a hope, strength and solace to those she met in her ministry.
Amongst her many talents, Annie was also an exceptional seamstress who created not just garments but threads of memories for her loved ones. Her hands, always busy with the soil or the needle, were the same that tenderly held and uplifted her family. Annie’s garden was not just a hobby, but a reflection of her soul-bright, beautiful, and tended with patience.
Funeral Services for Annie will be held at 3pm, Tuesday, April 23, 2024, from the Cookeville chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner with Charles Reich officiating.
The family will welcome friends in East Orange, NJ at Woody Funeral Home on Friday from 10am-12pm, then proceed to the cemetery for the committal.

Obituary Preview: Myrtle Inez Mallory went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 15, 2024 in her own home enjoying the sun.
Sister Myrtle I. Mallory was born on August 24, 1932 to the late Henderson and RosaLee Oliver in Chase City, Virginia. She received her formal education in Chase City, Virginia. She received her Associate’s degree in Science from Essex County College in 1979.
She met the love of her life, Junies “Willie” Mallory; they were married on September 4, 1948, and relocated to New Jersey. From that union, they had three children: Larry, Debra, and Terence.
Myrtle was always willing to volunteer her time and was very active in the Order of the Eastern Star, PHA. She joined St. John Chapter #12 on January 17, 1963, and was a faithful servant for 61 years. Throughout the 61 years of being a part of Oziel Grand Chapter and the Prince Hall Family, Sister Mallory has served in several capacities and positions. She served as Worthy Matron for St. John Chapter #12 from 1981-1982.
Myrtle was a great wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and homemaker. She had amazing cooking and baking skills, and it was not uncommon for family members and friends to stop by and sit around the kitchen table for hours.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henderson and RosaLee; her husband, Willie; her brother, Henderson; her son-in-law, Patrick; and her daughter-in-law, Carolyn.
Myrtle is survived by her children: Larry, Debra, and Terence (Robin). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Colette, Chastity (Jefferson), Laurence, Chad, and Carmen. She is survived by her two great granddaughters, Milan and London; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
As a result of her kind, generous, and pleasant personality, Myrtle was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Obituary Preview: Deacon Emily Jukes, M.S. Ed., was born in Camden, New Jersey on March 8, 1943. She peacefully passed on April 8, 2024 at the age of 81.
She was born to her parents, Esther Jones Spencer and Robert Spencer and raised by her grandparents Lonie and Earnest Howard.
Emily received Christ at a tender age of 10 under the leadership of the Catholic church.
She was educated in the Newark public school system and Queen of Angels Catholic Church is where she received her spiritual foundation.
Emily received a scholarship for her most precious gift and musical instrument, her voice. She performed off Broadway and was the lead singer in the band “Command Performance”, and recorded a single, “Avery Fisher Hall”. She performed with Melba Moore, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, and many more. Her vocal range was phenomenal as a 1st soprano. Her true love was teaching and community service. She graduated from Rutgers University with a Master’s degree in education.
Emily dedicated her life to Christ, her church family, her birth family, her found family and her students. She was a teacher at Barringer High School, Sussex Avenue School, Queen of Angels, and St. Rose of Lima where she retired as the Assistant Principal.
She loved God with all her heart, and she loved her family and friends unconditionally. Emily never met a stranger; anyone that met Emily loved her immediately. She had an infectious smile and a light that would brighten the darkest room. Joining in 2006, Emily was a devoted member and servant leader of Bethany Baptist Church, where she was ordained as a Deacon in 2017. She loved her church family and they loved her.
Emily is survived by her loving husband, James Jukes, J.S.C. (Ret.); devoted children, Juanita Johnson (Walter Johnson), Lenward James, Tonya Riley (Errol Riley), Kelley Carlton (Walter Carlton), Charles Ross (Capri Ross); sisters-in-law, Debra Jukes, Michelle Jukes and Kim Jukes; brothers-in-law, Joseph Anthony Dixon and Phillip Jukes; She also leaves grandchildren, Barnes Ivory Nowlin III / LaShonda Nowlin, Emily Ross Nowlin, Tonya/Randy Little, Ayanna McCoy, Jay McCoy, Sara Carlton, Machella Carlton, LaMar Carlton, Jamal Carlton, Taylor Ross, Kaela Ross Moore, Christopher Cunningham, Theresa J/Michael P.
