Darlene Haefele - May 23, 1929 - April 17, 2022

Departed: 04/17/2022 (Idaho Falls)
Obituary Preview: Darlene, our beloved mother, entered God’s Kingdom on Easter, April 17, 2022, just 37 days before her 93rd birthday. Mom passed away peacefully after dedicating her life to raising her family and being a genuine friend to hundreds of people during her life time.
Mom was born on a small farm, May 23, 1929, in Custer County, Nebraska. She was the third of 5 children born to Senate and Blanche Niedt. As a little girl, mom attended a country school. She walked on a dirt road for over a mile each way. She eventually attended high school in Broken Bow, Nebraska, and graduated in 1947.
On May 23, 1948, Darlene married her husband of 63 years, Herman Haefele. Five children eventually followed, Susan, Teresa, Julie, David, and Kimberly. Our father’s career in broadcasting took the family from Nebraska to Kansas and finally to Idaho Falls, at KIFI Channel 8, in February 1962.
Darlene was the epitome of a wonderful mother. She frequently baked a cake or cookies for us kids to eat when we got home from school. Our clothes were clean and neatly pressed. As mom would say, “My heart is in my home”.
She loved to walk. She routinely walked over a mile every day. Mom had a Monday morning ritual of walking to McDonald’s with her friends. She also loved to bake all kinds of goodies from scratch. An expected tradition at Christmas was mom’s peanut brittle and chocolate fudge for her family and friends. She was a voracious reader. Mom loved books and her Bible. In the last years of her life, her vision was robbed by her age related macular degeneration. However, where there’s a will, there’s a way. Mom was able to read a Bible with super giant print with her glasses and a magnifier. This brought her great joy!
Mom was known as a prayer warrior. Her phone rang every week from people with prayer requests, as they knew of mom’s heavenly connection. Our mother was also known for her genuine love and her faith. She did not hesitate to give God credit for His blessings and answers to prayer.
We will miss her. However, there’s no better place she can be now than with Jesus, her family, and friends. She has a new body and can see again. She is home now.
Mom is preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, husband, Herm, and two daughters, Susan and Teresa. She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Tom) Shilling of Denver; her son David of Chicago, and daughter Kimberly (Dave) of Hardin, MT. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Dorothy and Deanna, both of Nebraska; 4 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
The family wishes to publicly thank Encompass Home Health and Hospice and Visiting Angels for their care and support, as well as the staff at MorningStar who provided whatever assistance was needed.

Brian Keith Garner - January 01, 1969 - April 15, 2022

Departed: 04/15/2022 (Idaho Falls)
Obituary Preview: Brian Keith Garner, 53, of Idaho Falls, passed away April 15, 2022.
Brian was born as the New Year's Baby for Bannock County on January 1, 1969, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Keith Garner and Phyllis Hazel Henninger Garner.
Brian had a good childhood with his family in spite of his handicaps. He took after his father as a big tease and would do anything to get a laugh out of someone.
Brian was placed in a group home in Boise the summer of 1981 to acquire the professional help needed in his life to continue to learn and grow. When he aged out at 19 he was moved to Idaho Falls Group Homes. Brian ("B") lived at Idaho Falls Group Homes from July 1988 to December 2019. During this time, Brian was an active and inquisitive individual, always wanting to keep others on their toes. Brian was known for taking household appliances and packing them around, not letting anyone have them. He loved his sunglasses, watches, jewelry, and laughing at the expense of others.
In December 2019, Brian moved into a  home where he received services through Grand Teton Human Services. Brian continued his shenanigans and expanded his many collections of sunglasses, watches, jewelry, and nail polish. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed. Brian's laugh was contagious, and his smile would light up a room. He had a way of making everyone's day brighter.
Brian is survived by his sister Shelley Kay Jones, his nieces and nephews and best friends, Marie, Pam, Colter, Josh and Jason. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Teresa Ann.
We would like to thank Boise Group Homes, Idaho Falls Group Homes, Grand Teton Human Services, Kathy Hansen, and the Bonneville County Board of Community Guardians for their many years of service. We would like to express our gratitude and thanks to the many staff who worked with Brian over the years.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2022, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge, Idaho Falls, Idaho. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at the Ammon Cemetery, 5226 E Sunnyside Road, Ammon, Idaho.
Part of Brian's ashes will be interred at the Ammon Cemetery and part will be interred at the Wilford Cemetery next to his parents and sister.

Lois Jean Moser - January 20, 1937 - April 14, 2022

Departed: 04/14/2022 (Idaho Falls)
Obituary Preview: Lois Jean Nuehring Moser, 85, of Idaho Falls, passed away April 14, 2022.    Lois was born January 20, 1937, in Guttenberg, Iowa, to Marvin Nuehring and Bernette "Sis" Kann Nuehring. The second child of seven, she grew up on the family farm, where she herded milk cows from the woods, pumped barrels of water, made mud pies covered with beet juice colored dry lime frosting, played hide and seek with her siblings in the barn, jumped in the hay, ate "big greenie apples" in the apple orchard, and sang songs with her mom and sisters. She attended schools in Guttenburg and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School in 1955, where she was a cheerleader, homecoming queen, and a representative for girl's state.
While in high school, she met Claire Martin Moser at Patzner's Dairy where he worked delivering milk and she babysat for his sister, Fern. Claire and Lois became high school sweethearts and then long-distance sweethearts after Claire joined the Navy and moved to San Diego, California in 1954.     On October 1, 1955, she married Claire in Guttenberg, Iowa. While stationed in San Diego, Lois and Claire welcomed their first child, Randy Allyn in 1957. After being honorably discharged, they returned to Iowa, where Claire attended college and Lois cared for Randy and babysat other children, sometimes as many as 10 children at once. In 1960 they welcomed their second child, Ronda Jean. Upon Claire's graduation, they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where Claire attended graduate school. In 1967, Lois and Claire moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho. They welcomed their third child, Misti Ann in 1968 and their fourth child, Kristi Dawn in 1974.  Lois took great pride in being a good wife, a gifted home maker, a loving mother, and a good neighbor. She filled her life with music (Elvis Presley, Kenny Rogers, and Anne Murray) flower gardens, art lessons, knitting, crocheting, sewing, canning, cooking, baking, candy making, and crafting. She was very proud of the baby sweaters she hand knit and the clothing and formal dresses she sewed for daughters.
Lois was renowned for her homemade Christmas candies. She would deliver plates of candies and cookies to all of her friends and neighbors and even some strangers. She would remember everyone's favorite treat and would customize their plate just for them (you know who you are). The candies she made included chocolate fudge, white fudge, caramels, dipped chocolates, haystacks, peanut brittle, english toffee, peanut clusters, bologna candy, rice crispy date balls, Albert's nut brittle, molasses candy, sugar cookies, icebox cookies, and molasses cookies.
Lois celebrated holidays through the eyes of a child. Christmas in the Moser home was a magical time. A mysterious visit from Saint Nicholas the evening of December 6th was the beginning of the Christmas magic. A loud knock at the back door revealed stockings filled with candy, nuts, and oranges. There were handmade Christmas decorations and a 10 foot Christmas tree dripping with ornaments, tinsel, and icicles, and underneath the tree, special gifts for her family, friends, and neighbors. On Christmas Eve, the family would pile into the car and drive around Idaho Falls to see the Christmas lights and decorations. They would return home to discover that Santa Claus had filled the stockings and delivered gifts and candy. The family would open their gifts and then go to Midnight Mass at Christ the King. Pure, unforgettable magic.
Lois always enjoyed art. She took formal art lessons in color theory, charcoal and pastel drawing, water color, oil, and acrylic painting; learning still life, figure, and landscape genres. She really enjoyed creating landscape oil paintings which she proudly shared with her Iowa family. All family members had at least one of Lois's paintings. She even took her oil paint supplies to Iowa and shared her love of painting with her sisters and mother by teaching them how to create landscape oil paintings of mountains, trees, lakes, and barns. When Lois's grandchildren were old enough, she loved drawing with them and teaching them the finer points of perspective, light source, shading, and colors. She also enjoyed making many crafts and selling her creations at local craft fairs. In her later years she spent many hours making jewelry with Czech glass beads and sorting beads with her friend Lisa. Lois loved Lisa like a daughter.
Lois always had beautiful flower gardens. She spent many summer evenings watering and weeding her flowers and swinging on her patio enjoying all of the beauty she had created. She adored birds and found great joy in feeding and watching her birds.  She loved Chickadees, Goldfinches, Lazuli Buntings, Blue Jays, and especially Cardinals.  Whenever, Lois's family thinks of a Cardinal, they think of her. Lois also had a knack for fixing things and her neighbors, friends, and family would seek her skills for gluing broken china and glassware, sewing torn or favorite worn out clothing, fixing toys, repairing jewelry, and untangling knots.
Over the years Lois enjoyed summer visits to the family farm in Guttenberg.  She loved spending time with her parents, sisters, brother, and their families. There were many hours spent playing cards, singing, laughing, shopping, sharing stories of their childhood, eating (breakfast, dinner and supper), and playing practical jokes.
One of Lois's greatest joys and most magical skills was caring for babies and children throughout her life. She absolutely adored babies and children and there was not a single baby that Lois couldn't win over with patty cake. Lois took pride in helping to raise all of her grandchildren, in reality they were all her babies.  Her grandchildren have many wonderful, loving memories of their grammy including: her freezer full of creamies, her delicious bean soup, pancakes with smiley faces, birds nests made of mashed potatoes and gravy with peas, hearing her cheers during performances and sporting events (Way to go H!), eating your sandwich crusts because you believed it would help you whistle, playing school, planting countless plum and peach pits convinced they would grow into a fruit tree someday, decorating the top two-thirds of her Christmas tree, visiting on the patio swing during warm summer afternoons, helping weed her flower gardens, making and frosting sugar cookies, watching "her shows" (a.k.a soap operas), matching Christmas gifts, hand photo-shopped pictures, tricking her into eating sour candies time and time again, her fascination with miniature things, having girls night with pizza, playing board games like Catch Phrase or Balderdash, wearing pinky rings and bracelets, her warm smile, and her sideways glances.    Lois is survived by her daughters, Ronda (Greg) Rasmussen of Rigby, ID, Misti (Tom) Lillo of Idaho Falls, ID, Kristi Moser-McIntire of Idaho Falls, ID; sisters, Judy Brandel of Garnavillo, IA, Marlene McLane, Bonnie Sue Clinton, and Mary Moser all of Guttenberg, IA; eight grandchildren Ryan (Heather) McDaniel of Malabar FL, AJ (Bri) Rasmussen of Idaho Falls, ID,  Michelle (Adam) Triplett of Boise, ID, Marie (Jasper) Williams of Salem, OR, Megan (Matt) Nielsen of Seward, AK, Morgan McIntire, McKenzie (Kyle) McIntire-Williams, and Justin McIntire all of Idaho Falls, ID; and five great-grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by her husband, son, Randy Moser, her parents, a sister, Jerri Ameral, and a brother, Ronnie Nuehring.
She will be forever loved and remembered by her children and grandchildren as a sweet and sassy lady who was always happy, helpful, and caring. Her happy little giggle and child-like joy will be remembered by anyone who knew her. Her absence will be deeply felt during family gatherings, birthday parties, Christmas celebrations (her candies and cookies), Thanksgiving dinners (her pies), Easter celebrations (her brilliantly colored eggs), 4th of July barbecues (her potato salad), graduations, and weddings.
We love you Lois. You were a constant presence and source of unconditional love, support, and laughter. You were never on the sidelines. Life was not a spectator sport. You walked with us through the grit of life. Comforting. Teaching. And Building. Your devotion was undeniable. THANK YOU for building each of us. You ARE cherished.

Obituary Preview: Edward Vincent Phillips, 76, of Idaho Falls, passed away April 2, 2022, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Edward was born August 29, 1945, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Samuel Phillips and Dorothy Webster Phillips. He grew up and attended schools in California with only a few credits shy of graduating from Petaluma High School. From 1966 to 1970 he served in the United States Navy, as a Diesel Mechanic and Carpenter on a boat in the waters of Vietnam and Guam. After his service, he returned to California, married his first wife and moved with her to Idaho to continue his schooling in diesel mechanics. There, they had two sons. Not very long after though, his wife, with their two sons, returned to California and filed for divorce. Edward remained in Idaho. Then he met and married Judy Lee Balls of Aberdeen, Idaho. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple in December 1975. From there, they moved to Gig Harbor, Washington, and had three children: Christine, Edward, and James. Unfortunately, he and Judy also divorced and the three children were adopted by Judy’s second husband, John Curry of Valdez, Alaska.
Edward worked as a handyman most of his life, helping family, friends and neighbors with odd jobs. After 2 failed marriages, he also became a wanderer, philosopher and poet, knitting a good yarn from time to time as a storyteller. He found it easier to be in nature with the animals than in the city with people. In his later years, however, he met and married Virginia in the state of Washington and loved her until the day of her recent death. He finally stored away his wandering stick when he moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, in September 2016 to be closer to the later mentioned children. He has been in Idaho Falls ever since.
Edward is survived by his son, James (Phillips) Curry of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Edward (Phillips) Curry of Nampa, ID;  daughter, Christine (Phillips, Curry) Wilson (Brian) of Iona, ID; grandchildren: Mark Wilson of Boise, ID, Sarah Wilson of Iona, ID, Alyssa Wilson of Iona, ID, Aiden Goodsell of Idaho Falls, ID, Johnathan  Goodsell of Idaho Falls, ID; brother, Robert Ranche (Betty), of Salem, OR; sister, Marlene (Ron) Cushing of Nampa, ID; and brother, Russell (Joy) Phillips of Tyler, TX.
He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Phillips; mother, Dorothy Phillips; ex-wife, Judy Lee Balls (Curry, Walker); and ex-wife, Virgina Phillips.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2022, at the Iona Cemetery.
Military Honors will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and the United States Navy Honor Guard.

If you have access to an old printed copy of an obituary, you can scan it and upload it to online platforms like Ancestry.com or FamilySearch.org. This can help preserve family history and make it accessible to others.

Are there any specific regulations around what can be included in an obituary?

Newspapers and online platforms may have guidelines around content, tone, and language used in an obituary. Be respectful of these guidelines and avoid controversial or offensive material.

Can I create a video tribute instead of a written obituary?

Yes! Video tributes are becoming increasingly popular as a way to celebrate someone's life. You can create one using photos, music, and narration, then share it on social media or online platforms.

How long will an online obituary remain available?

The duration that an online obituary remains available varies depending on the platform. Some websites may keep them up indefinitely, while others might remove them after a certain period. Be sure to check their policies beforehand.
