Stephen D Durgan - July 29, 1948 - April 12, 2022

Departed: 04/12/2022 (Wolfeboro)
Obituary Preview: Wolfeboro, NH
Stephen Douglas Durgan, 73, of Wolfeboro, NH passed away unexpectedly but peacefully the morning of Tuesday April 12, 2022.
Steve was born to William and Beverly Durgan on July 29, 1948 in Saco, Maine but spent his childhood growing up in East Boston, where he developed a tough skin and lifelong passion for the Red Sox and New York Giants (but only because there was no such team as the New England Patriots yet). His family would eventually move to Danvers, MA where he would meet the first love of his life, Sheila.
After putting himself through college at Salem State University (bachelors) and later Plymouth State University (masters) he got his first job teaching at Kingswood Regional Junior High School. This was, arguably, the profession closest to his heart, as he took great pride in shaping the lives of his students. His other passion during that time was as a football, baseball, and basketball coach. It would be remiss not to mention the 1976 undefeated State Championship football team, which was a tremendous source of pride.
Steve was an active member of the Wolfeboro community serving in many capacities over the years, including as a police officer. His love of Lake Winnipesaukee would ultimately lead him to Goodhue and Hawkins Navy Yard where he would open “The Sailing Shop” and eventually become the marina’s manager. He dedicated his heart and soul to creating the best possible experience to the many customers coming through its doors.
His family would often joke that he knew absolutely everyone in town…he had either had them as a student, sold them a boat, or written them a speeding ticket (though more often than not, just “a warning”).

Arthur James Duffy - November 03, 1934 - March 31, 2022

Departed: 03/31/2022 (Wolfeboro)
Obituary Preview: Mr. Arthur James Duffy, 87, of Ctr. Barnstead, New Hampshire, died unexpectedly on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at the Courville at Manchester rehabilitation facility in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Born in Lynn, Massachusetts on November 3rd, 1934, to John and Helen (Talbot) Duffy.  Arthur graduated from St Mary’s High School of Lynn, where he lettered in football, in 1952.  His career as an electrician began at Duffy Electrical, also in Lynn, and later at Polaroid Corporation where he worked in Cambridge, Norwood and Waltham.  Arthur was pensioned from Polaroid Corporation after 26 years.  He was also a member of B Battery, 102nd Field Artillery Battalion of the Massachusetts National Guard where he was Honorably Discharged at the rank of Sergeant in 1956.
Arthur’s many notable accomplishments include the marriage of 66 years to his life’s love, Patricia and their 7 children, 15 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.  He was an industrious man who built a summer get-a-way home in New Hampshire, with the help of family and many friends.  This eventually became their permanent home in 1995 when he and Patricia relocated from Maple Street in Lynn to Center Barnstead.
Arthur’s many loves include golf where he was a member at Tony C’s (Conigliaro) in Nahant, Massachusetts, and later Loudon Country Club in Loudon, New Hampshire.  Arthur and Patricia were regular fixtures and members of the “Year Rounders’” bowling league at Boutwell’s Bowling Center in Concord, New Hampshire, and he enjoyed the many informal card playing leagues that bridged the inclement winter months until summer when he could get back out on the golf course.  The fondest memories will undoubtedly be the large family gatherings during holidays or the BBQs and lobster bakes at the lake where the food and drink flowed and the many cards and other games were played well into the evening.
Arthur is survived by his wife, Patricia (Langan) Duffy and his children, Arthur J. Duffy Jr and his wife Kathleen of Swampscott, MA; Michael P. Duffy and his wife Silvia of Cherry Valley, MA; Theresa A. Mitchell and her husband Robert of Georgetown, MA; Maureen A. Golding and her husband Christopher of Lynn, MA; Gerald O. Duffy and his wife Elizabeth of Wilmington, MA; Kevin J. Duffy and his wife Laura of Wolfeboro, NH; and Joseph W. Duffy of Ctr. Barnstead, NH.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 20 River Road, Pittsfield, NH, on Saturday April 23rd, at 11:00am, followed by a graveside ceremony at Riverview Cemetery on Parade Road in Center Barnstead and a reception at the Pittsfield Community Center.

William "Bill" Quayle - Unknown - February 12, 2022

Departed: 02/12/2022 (Wolfeboro)
Obituary Preview: Wolfeboro, NH
On February 12, 2022 Bill Quayle left for the great workshop in the sky after suffering the aftermath of a stroke in early July.  He passed at home with his wife at his side.  Bill was born in Owasso, MI, to James and Ann Quayle.  He cherished his youth, especially family summer adventures at Mullet Lake, MI.
Bill took courses at the University of Michigan before serving four years in the Army, mostly in Germany.  After his father’s early death, the family moved to Ohio where he met his wife, Katherine.  They raised a son and a daughter in Lyndhurst.  Sadly, he lost his wife in 2004.  He retired as a Drafting Supervisor at Channel Products in 2006 with an abundance of humorous anecdotes involving his engineer buddies.  He was the consummate storyteller.
A couple of years after his wife’s passing, Bill vacationed in Rye, NH near his sister, Mary.  They came to Wolfeboro, NH to visit Mary’s husband’s cousin, Dianne Rogers, whom he soon wed.  His new home town of Wolfeboro was adopted with relish.  And vice versa.
Bill took great pride in raising ‘Fritz’ heirloom tomatoes, giving plants and fruit to neighbors, friends, strangers, and to Spider Web Gardens where they continue on.  Another favorite pastime was sailing, including sailing across Lake Erie in the Wayfarer he built himself.  It carried over to sailing is Soling rc sailboat with the Back Bay Skippers in Wolfeboro for almost 15 years, affording him hours of enjoyment and incomparable friendships.  As a member/volunteer with the New Hampshire Boat Museum, Bill helped many classes build kayaks and canoes and helped fellow Back Bay Skippers make or repair their Soling sailboats.  In 2008 he was named “Volunteer of the Year”.
First and foremost, Bill was a woodworker extraordinaire.  From a beautiful flying angel Gabriel adorning the wall to a new handle for the mailbox, from exquisite half and full boat models to a back scratcher, from a cane to a birdhouse, from fishing lures to ribbon signs, his talent was boundless and compelling.  He has left his mark on Wolfeboro, restoring the beautiful antique at Town Hall, restoring the Town Clerk’s coat rack and the antique ballot box.  For the Wolfeboro Library, Bill made a mini wooden library box for children’s use at Albee Beach.
While possessing great curiosity and intelligence, ranging from history to how anything was made, to obtaining a US Patent for a table saw accessory.  Bill also possessed a modicum of youthful frivolity endearing him to young and old alike – e.g. at age 68 throwing himself on the snow on the deck to make an angel.  His nieces and nephews were attracted tom him like a magnet from childhood on.
Bill was predeceased by his first wife, Katherine, and a sister Mary Quayle Lang.  He leaves his devoted wife, Dianne, his beloved son Jamie, Mentor, OH, and daughter Jennifer and Kevin Robinson, Painesville, OH, nephew Andrew Robertson, Freeport. ME, nephew Thomas Robertson, Painesville, OH, niece Janet and Andrew Young, Starksboro, VT, niece Joanne and Kevin Whiting, Lancaster, NH. nephew Mark DeWolf, Wolfeboro, NH, and other nieces and nephews.
Adhering to his wishes, there will be no funeral.  Friends and family are invited to an event celebrating his life from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 12th at O Bistro at the Inn on Main, Wolfeboro.  As wished, he will be laid to rest with is sister and his parents at the family burial site in Corunna, MI.  Should you wish to make a gift in his memory, kindly consider the New Hampshire Boat Museum, PO Box 1195, Wolfeboro Falls, NH 03896.

Linden was a beautiful little girl; a vibrant and thriving toddler whose tragic and unexplained death has created a deep, dark emptiness and sadness in her home once filled with joyous energy and spontaneous laughter.  Her grieving family had every expectation of a long, happy, and love-filled life for her.  She mastered walking and running, had begun to communicate with connected words, and could blow kisses and give hugs that melted the hardest hearts. The sound of tiny footsteps coming down the hallway from her room each morning announced the arrival of sunshine, laughter, and a feeling of wonderful serenity watching the miracle she truly was.  In her tragically short life, she blessed the lives of her loving family and so many others with her smile, her hugs, and frequent laughter.  She was loved beyond words and will remain forever in our hearts.

Krista Abear was born in Plymouth, New Hampshire on May 28, 1955 and succumbed to the COVID-19 virus on Thursday, December 9, 2021.  Krista grew up in Ashland, New Hampshire and was still telling stories about her days on Thompson Street throughout the pandemic.  She is survived by her wife, Carolyn Wise, her brothers Tegan (Karen) and Marc (Patty) and her sister, Joy (Rob).  They were predeceased by their father, Ronald, and mother, Marcelle.  As a singing and game-playing auntie in the following in Mary Poppins, she is survived by 13 nieces and nephews, plus the very special 4 “Allen Boys”.  She rocked and sang to every one she could get her hands on.  Dear to her heart, always, will be Sharon Paquette and Lynn Allen, loving in-laws of Monique, Marc, Toni, Dee, and aunts, uncles and cousins o’er hill and dale.
Speaking of singing, Krista was usually singing or humming when she wasn’t talking.  She had a beautiful singing voice which she almost took to Harvard after graduating from Ashland High School.  But, since she had always wanted to be a teacher, she earned her Bachler’s degree from Keene State, gathered graduate credits from Plymouth State College and, later finished her Master’s degree from Walden University.
Krista’s first career passion was in the field of special education, which she applied to her work at Spaulding Youth Center, Brewster Academy, Barnstead Elementary and Kingswood Regional Middle School.  Loving teaching at each grade level, Krista found her perfect fit at the middle level where every student was her “favorite” and changing voices of eighth grade boys became another form of favorite music. As she taught 8th grade US History, the characters of the Revolutionary and Civil Wars came alive.  Where else would beg to found guilty in a Puritan Court?  Her students knew she loved her subject area and more importantly, they knew she loved them.
Woven into the fabric of her life was Krista’s love of sports.  She was a star athlete until chronic arthritis turned her into a coach of basketball and soccer.  And, oh yes, her students knew not to admit to being Yankee fans.  As a matter of fact, a thrill just months before her death was getting on a seat on the Green Monster.
Krista was a founder of the New Hampshire Association of Middle Level Educators and the first teacher to serve as President of the New England League of Middle Schools and, in reti4ment was serving on the Governor Wentworth Regional School District School Board.  She was a student advocate, educational leader and master teacher.
There will be a celebration of life in the spring.  Meanwhile, make room Gabriele.  She also played the trumpet.

John "Jack" Lynch - October 22, 1942 - October 06, 2021

Departed: 10/06/2021 (Wolfeboro)
Obituary Preview: Wolfeboro, NH
John “Jack” R. Lynch of Wolfeboro, NH passed away on Wednesday October 6, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.  Jack was born on October 22, 1942 to Raymond Lynch and Marion (Drumm) Lynch of Pepperell, MA.  Jack was raised in Pepperell, and while attending the schools there, he excelled athletically, especially in basketball and track.  Upon graduation from high school, he would make a decision that would change the course of his life:  he applied and entered the United States Army Warrant Officer Aviation Program during the Vietnam War.  Certainly this decision had its risks, but Jack wanted to create a future for himself, and serving his country was the right choice for him.  Jack attended and graduated from flight school at Fort Rucker, Alabama and went on to become a decorated combat Huey helicopter pilot during his time in the service.
Upon leaving active duty in 1968, he continued to follow his passion for aviation, attending Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston while working on his civilian fixed wing certifications.   It was during his time at Wentworth he met the love of his life: his late wife Joanne O’Neil in Kenmore Square, Boston.  They were married in 1969, and Jack began his lifelong career as a commercial airline pilot for Northeast Air Lines, which later became Delta Air Lines.
Jack and Joanne made their home in Duxbury, MA, where they worked tirelessly to create a warm and loving environment for family and friends. They would come to raise three sons and found great enjoyment attending their sons’ athletic events.  Additionally, a date night at The Milepost in Duxbury was a favorite.  In his free time, Jack really enjoyed boating in the waters around Duxbury Bay and Cape Cod.  He and his family also enjoyed the summer months in Wolfeboro, NH on Lake Winnipesaukee.  He referred to the time spent in Duxbury and Wolfeboro as the best of both worlds.
Jack dedicated 33 years to Delta, retiring as a Captain who flew internationally.  He loved flying “across the pond” to European destinations, especially Italy and Greece, and he often spoke of the food and art he enjoyed.  He had many stories to share with his family, and he always returned with gifts for his loving wife Joanne.  After Jack retired from Delta, both he and Joanne built a new home in Wolfeboro, NH.  In these later years, Jack and Joanne enjoyed traveling around the country as well, especially to Indian Rocks Beach, Florida when it became cold during the winter months.  Jack also developed a passion for cooking and was often focused on the meals he would prepare for days to come when family was gathered.  All that said, nothing brought him as much joy as being the doting “Deeda” to his six grandchildren---Sean Pat, Erin, Abby, Kathleen, Hannah, and Reagan.  Jack also adored all of the family dogs.
Jack can be best described as a dedicated family man who was humble, compassionate, and generous.  As a man of faith, he truly enjoyed helping others and felt it his responsibility.  His larger than life personality, infectious positive nature, and friendly disposition made him the life of the party even if he was just at the grocery store downtown.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne, in 2014, and is survived by his three sons and their families:  Sean and Lisa Lynch of Weymouth, MA; Ryan and Beth Lynch of Hanover, MA; and Chris and Heather Lynch of Dover, NH.  He is also survived by his sister Betty Lynch of Pepperell, MA.
