On December 27, 1951, Cliff enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on December 19, 1955.
Cliff was a special education teacher for the Town of Erving for 32 years before retiring.
Education was extremely important to Cliff, and he served numerous times on the Ralph C. Mahar School Committee (serving as Chairman for many years), the Orange Elementary School Committee as well as the Franklin County Technical School Committee. He took in and supported over 200 foster children and international students during his life, with many of the exchange students acknowledging him with Letters to the Editor yearly, praising him for his guidance and support while getting an American education.
Not only was education important to Cliff, but so was helping people, but especially making sure the less fortunate were fed. Cliff oversaw and prepared numerous community meals throughout the North Quabbin area. He was very involved with the annual Food-A-Thon drive to collect food and funds for 5 food pantries in the area. Cliff was known to at one time have 8 freezers in his home to store food (which he had gone around to various markets to collect), too use for meals or help a family in distress.

Well known by many, he will certainly be missed.

Obituary Preview: PLYMOUTH-Lois Anne Richardson of Plymouth, MA died peacefully on April 13, 2022 following a brief illness.  Born in Plymouth on March 7, 1930, she was the daughter of the late James “Buster” and Emma Roy (nee Fornaciari).  She was predeceased in 2018 by her husband John E. “Jack” Richardson to whom she was married for 64 years.
Lois grew up in Plymouth, attended the Oak Street school, and subsequently the old Plymouth High School.  She graduated in 1947 with a varsity letter in cheerleading.  She earned a nursing degree from Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton, MA in 1949 and then spent her entire career working in labor and delivery, first at Saint Elizabeth’s, then at the Alexander-Eastman Hospital in Derry, NH, and later at the Jordan Hospital in Plymouth.  In total she worked more than fifty years in nursing, helping to deliver thousands of babies.  Her fifteen minutes of fame came when she was shown in a 1952 Boston Post photo holding baby Daniel O’Neil Jr. whose delivery broke a string of ten consecutive sisters born to the Jamaica Plain family.
Lois married her husband Jack in 1954 and they moved to Derry in 1958 where they raised three boys.  Over time, Lois became a master craftsperson, developing enviable skills as a knitter and with sewing, crocheting, needlepoint, stained glass, quilting, furniture restoration, and caning as well as photography. Needless to say, all of the grandchildren wore custom-ordered Halloween costumes every time they went out.  Lois was also an outstanding cook, specializing in seafood, some of which she hauled in herself while out with Jack fishing for lobsters and groundfish in and around Plymouth harbor.  During retirement she and Jack also spent several years as snowbirds, wintering in Homosassa, FL before returning to reside in Plymouth permanently.

Departed: 03/14/2022 (Orange)
Obituary Preview: ATHOL- Attorney Richard M. Plotkin, 86, of Athol - Richard M. (Dick) Plotkin passed away Monday, March 14, 2022 at Apple Valley Center, Ayer after a period of declining health.
Born in Springfield, MA to Judge A. William and Ethel M. Plotkin, Richard was a lifelong and proud resident of Athol.
Richard graduated from Athol High School in the class of 1953 and Babson College in the class of 1958. After graduating from Babson on a Saturday, he reported to Newport, RI on Monday morning to begin Officer Candidate School as an enlisted officer in the Navy. He served in the Navy from 1958-1961. Upon discharge from the Navy, he began work as an auditor for Peat Marwick in Boston and enrolled in Suffolk Law School at night. He graduated from Suffolk Law in 1966 and returned to Athol to begin practicing law with his father. He retired from full-time law practice in 2010.
Richard believed Athol was welcoming and supportive to his grandparents, father and uncle as they emigrated from Russia in the early 1900’s. He believed in giving back to the community and was a past member of the Athol Finance Committee, a Babe Ruth Coach and a member of the Athol Credit Union Board of Directors. Most recently he was a long term member of the Athol Economic Development and Industrial Commission, an Athol Savings Bank Corporator, a member of the Athol High School Scholarship Association and a 49 year member of the Athol YMCA Board of Directors, which was one of his favorite local organizations. He was also a member of Temple Israel and Camp Cheneo.

His favorite ice cream spot was Kimball Farm in Westford, a place he found in the 1970’s and frequented for decades. He could always find a way to detour there on the way back from a Red Sox game, from the Registry of Deeds after doing research for work or from any other event that had him driving within 10 miles of the exit.
He was also an animal lover who had many dogs and cats over the years. He had a particular affection for German Shepherds and could be seen walking Ruffy, Cleo or Heidi in various locations around town for exercise. He also had many cats and enjoyed watching their antics as well as enjoying their company while he watched a sporting event on TV. A favorite ploy to eat in the living room and enjoy the game was “I don’t want to disturb the cat,” who was either sleeping on his lap or somewhere on the chair with him.

Departed: 03/05/2022 (Orange)
Obituary Preview: WARWICK- Nicholas Clapp Arguimbau was born January 6, 1950, in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Lawrence Baker Arguimbau and Elinor Clapp Arguimbau. The family moved to Foxboro, Mass, and later to Chenango, New York, and Lancaster, Massachusetts.
Nick graduated from Nashoba Regional High School. He was always an excellent student and competed in the Massachusetts State Science Fair, with a project about hybridizing daylilies. He attended Harvard University, majoring in physics. After graduation, he bicycled across southern Canada and US until he had to give up the ride in Colorado due to severe sunburn. He enrolled in graduate school at Cal Tech, but then decided he did not want to spend life in a laboratory and transferred to UCLA Law School.
After graduating, he clerked for the Alaska Supreme Court in Anchorage. As an attorney his first love was environmental law, working for a time for Californians for a Better Environment. He also worked as a criminal defense attorney for the law firm of Ephraim Margolin in San Francisco and then in private practice. With his incisive mind, he excelled at writing brilliant legal briefs. When his independent law firm failed, he sold his house in Fairfax, California, and bought a small farm in Warwick, Massachusetts bringing with him his two husky dogs. He was attracted to the town for its rural atmosphere and the fact that many of his ancestors including the Blakes, had lived there in the 1800s.
Nick served for a few years as a town selectman, and also served on the town planning board. He, along with many others, worked actively to preserve the Gale Brook watershed. He planted many fruit trees to supplement his historic apple orchard. Each Fall, he held a “come pick your own free” apple event.
Nick married Martha Ture in 1979, but they later divorced. They had no children.
He is survived by his sisters, Edith Davidson of Worcester, Massachusetts, and her two children, and Ellen Arguimbau of Kellogg, Idaho.
No funeral is planned at this time, but there will be a community memorial get-together sometime in April or May.
