Valencia’s beautiful life came to an end Thursday, March 10, 2022, at 6:01 A.M. at Baton Rouge General Bluebonnet Hospital.  Valencia Deidra Preston-Brooks was born to the union of Samuel and Rosa Thomas Preston, their second daughter of six children, on June 13, 1968. She was baptized at an early age at True Light Baptist Church by the late Reverend Chester A. Forrest. Valencia was active in Sunday School, Youth and Junior Choir, Young Adults, and the Mass Choir. Valencia was educated in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, Southern University, and Grambling State University. She attended Berean Seventh Adventist, Capitol Jr., Sherwood Middle, and Broadmoor High where she graduated in 1986. Valencia’s employment includes first at Eden Park Community Center in 1996. She had been employed in the EBR Parish School System as a Paraprofessional since 1998 at Capitol High, Capitol Jr. High, Broadmoor Elementary, Banks Elementary, Buchanan Elementary, and Scotlandville Middle (SPEMA). She served as a Specific Aide for nine years to a young man who achieved memorably, his name was Deontae Thomas. Valencia enjoyed shopping (thrift store), having Yaya’s time with her grandchildren, being family-oriented, traveling, and cooking. Valencia is survived by her children: Chelsea Brooks, Herbert Brooks IV, Preston Brooks, Chloe Preston, Clarise Preston, and Chasity Preston; parents Samuel and Rosa Preston; siblings: Patricia Akins, Keith Preston, Felicia Preston, Minister Ursula (Melvin) Hill, and Marcia Preston; grandchildren: Kaiden James, Lanazja Brooks, Kaleb James, Lanarah Brooks, Herbert Brooks V, Hunter Brooks, and Aycen Rodríguez, and a host of relatives and friends.
Her favorite song was “Move Upstairs” and “Old Landmark”. Her favorite saying was “Only what you do for Christ will last.” Also, “If God can bring you to it, he will bring you through it.” Her favorite scriptures were John 14:1-6 and Ephesians 3:14-20.
