Obituary Preview: Alta Latoyia Patmon-Billie was born on September 18, 1984 in Brooklyn, NY to Candea Patmon and Felix Jimenez.
And was reared by her mother and Reginald Mark Turner and from this union Alta was blessed with a baby brother, Reginald Mark Farris Turner. Alta’s mother, Candea later married Samuel Todd Aarons. Both of her stepfathers served in the United States Army. She acquired her education from various cities and graduated from Russell County High School in Seale, Alabama. Although Alta Latoyia met her later to be husband in high school. It was in her early twenties when she started dating Robert Billie who became her husband in her early thirties. It was through that union that they had their beautiful baby girl Brooklynn Alivia Billie January 18, 2018. Alta Latoyia adored and loved her wonderful baby girl. If you knew her, then you knew that Brooklynn was always going to come first, no matter what!
She worked administratively for many years since graduating high school. Alta dedicated many years working for a low-income housing authority and was loved by all who knew her. She also had a special passion for fashion and looking good. She had a special love for Mexican food, Fruity Pebbles, and Papa Johns. She was known for saying “don’t touch my food to her younger brother”. Most of all she loved her mother's home cooking. Alta Latoyia also enjoyed car rides with her mother singing along to Prince.
Alta Latoyia didn’t need a lot as long as she had family by her side. Alta Latoyia loved her grandmother, Alta Marie. They were so close, and she would do anything for her grandmother until her death. In addition to her baby girl Brooklynn, Alta had a love for dogs. Alta Latoyia family quickly grew as she took in Oscar who had Bella and then she rescued Suga all poodles. Oscar was the life of the party as he finally decided to stay after numerous times of trying to leave.
On Tuesday afternoon, March 22, 2022 Christ led Alta Latoyia Patmon-Billie to greener pastures and called her home.   Alta was proceeded in death by her grandmother whom she loved, Alta Marie Jones.
Alta Latoyia Patmon-Billie is survived by one daughter, Brooklynn Alivia Billie; her husband, Robert Billie; her loving mother and stepfather, Candea Leashun  (Samuel) Aarons of Buford, Georgia; her only brother, Reginald Mark Farris Turner of Dallas,Texas; her uncle, Tony Michael (Natasha) Patman of the Bronx, New York; her aunt, Angela Tawwaina Patman of Brooklyn, New York; three cousins, Tarrance La’delle Jones, Anthony Nahshon Brown, and Arianna Kaylee Patman; father-in-law, Robert Robinson; mother-in-law, Desiree Robinson; sister-in-law, Desiree Robinson; brother-in-law, Timothy Robinson; niece-in-law, Syris Commdore; sister-in-law, Shalanda Glisson; mother-in-law, Annette Washington; father-in-law, Cyril Washington; and host of other relatives and friends.

Obituary Preview: Deantwone “Twone” McDowell , 43, of Athens born July 2, 1978 to Jennifer Carey and the late Phillip McDowell. He was raised by his devoted, loving mother Mary Mitchell.
He loved drawing, to be honest the art work on back is from a church program he drew in 2000. He also enjoyed basketball, and most importantly family. He gave his life to Christ at an early age at Billups Grove Baptist Church, attending Sunday School, Junior Usher Board, and Vacation Bible School.
Survivors in addition to his mothers, include his grandmother, Elizabeth Patman; sisters, Ferdricka Carey (Jay Colbert), Kimberly Mitchell, Carmeva Echols; brother, Gregory Mitchell (Donna). Deantwone was a loving son, brother, nephew, uncle, and friend to all. He also leaves to cherish his memory: nieces/nephews, Danielle, Nikia, Brison, Brandon, Jayden, Jared, Breana, Breontra, Bryant, Corian, Kayla and great-nephew, Brayden; aunts, Patricia Daventport, Hattie Bolton (Claude), Jessie Harper (LM), Cornelia Collins, Frances Precious Derricotte (Leroy), Prescilla Carey, uncle, Robert Carey (Terry);  god sister, Cerdrina Derricotte; and step children, Xavier Echols and Zaria Echols.

Obituary Preview: On a warm summer day, June 21, 1936, the late Mr. Pinkney Robinson and Beatrice Robinson of Bishop, Georgia was blessed with a daughter, which they named Mamie Bell Robinson. And on a cool winter evening, February 27, 2022, her heavenly father called her home.
She attended public school in Oconee County, Georgia, graduating from Rosenwald High School in 1953. Mamie later married the late Milton Edward McLain and to this union one son, the late Darryl Milton McLain was born. Also preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Grady, Charles and her only sister, Rosa.
Mrs. McLain joined Browns Chapel Baptist Church, Bishop, Georgia at an early age. Over the course of her life, she served in many compacities at her church, such as, supervising the operations of the kitchen, a member of the Usher Board, President of the Pastor’s Aide Committee, and a member of the Mother’s Board.
Throughout her young adult life, she completed several years of study at Athens Vocational Technical School (known now as Athens Technical College). Mrs. McLain was hired by First Presbyterian Church (Community Outreach Program), who assigned her to the Pauldoe Recreational Center. And later, was appointed Director of the Pauldoe Day Care Center, where she worked until her retirement.
She leaves many memories with her family: grandchildren, Tymarcus McLain (reared in the home), Tiffany (Anthony) Cook and Taylor McLain; great-grandchildren, Kearstin, Laylah, Owen and Yarah McLain; brother, Harry Robinson daughter-in-law, Lisa McLain; special niece, Kuaretta (John) Lawrence; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Obituary Preview: Shelton K. Acey, 63 years old, was a native of Newark, New Jersey.  He was a graduate of Barringer HIgh School in Newark, where he excelled in mathematics, and attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Mr. Acey was an expert home repairman. He was able to completely restore and upgrade homes and businesses. He was in constant demand! After retiring, he relocated to Georgia, where he lived in Douglasville and later College Park.
His parents, James & Floria Acey, preceded him in death.
Mr. Acey is survived by his brother, Dwight Acey, and his former wife, Gwen Boyd.
We thank the medical teams at Piedmont Hospital Newnan who cared for him in his final days.  Also we wish to thank the Winfrey Mutual Funeral Home staff for the professionalism, compassion, and care they provided.

Obituary Preview: Mr Jones was born January 14, 1964 in Athens, GA to the late Willie Florence Thomas Jones-Barnett and the late Howard Jones.  He was the youngest of 10 children. He was proceded in death by two sisters, Costello Martin and Elizabeth Jones-Easley.  Mr. Jones passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.
Mr. Jones was a graduate of Cedar Shoals High School and was very well known around the Athens area where he met many people while performing various jobs for anyone that needed help.  His biggest group of friends were those he met in the "Downtown" area where he frequented their businesses to drink his "coffee" and strike up  conversations with anyone who would listen, especially his friend, Charlie Mustard, head roaster for Jittery Joe's Coffee.  This earned him the nickname "Uncle Jerry" to many that got to know him, as well as his family.  Mr.  Jones was a member of Athens First United Methodist Church, where he worshiped and developed both a special friendship and spiritual bond with the entire congregation.
He leaves to cherish memories with his siblings, five sisters and two brothers, Paulette Johnson (late Thomas "Jeff" Johnson), of Athens, GA, Willie Florence Resby (Tony Resby), Fayetteville, GA, Ruben Thomas Sr (Barbara Brown), Athens, GA, Mary Thomas-Schupeta (Burkhard), Kennesaw, GA, Jeanette Thomas-Watson (Greg), Watkinsville, GA, Vickie Thomas, Athens, GA and Abdullah Muhammad (Aseela), College Park, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great-nephews, other family and friends.

Jaymes Lumpkin was born on June 11, 1970  in Athens, Georgia.
He graduated from Oconee County High School in 1990 and was voted "Most Spirited" of the High School Class because his loving energy was unmatched.
Jaymes continued his education by pursuing and acquiring a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia.
Since 2017, Jaymes called Orlando, Florida home.
He loved kids and mentoring.
Jaymes touched everyone that he crossed paths with. Once you meet Jaymes Lumpkin, you would never forget him.  He showed up when it mattered, had your back, gave to those in need, and would defend and stand up for his loved ones. He was truly ONE of a KIND.
Jaymes's life seems too short to many, but those of us who were Blessed to be touched by him understand that his existence and the imprint that he left on our hearts exceed the quantity of time that he was here on earth.
Jaymes is survived by his parents Will Lumpkin SR and Margaret Lumpkin;  Brothers: Will Henry Lumpkin Jr. and Troy Adams; Sisters: Cheryl Lumpkin Brown and Tamika Lumpkin-Moon;    Nieces: Tomorreau Brown and Blakelyn Lumpkin; A host of family members that include aunts, uncles and cousins, in which he loved them all. "If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died. In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place that no one could ever fill. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God took you home.”
You made people laugh effortlessly. We will forever miss your sass, your spunk, and your style.

Elizabeth G. King - February 02, 1918 - October 13, 2021

Obituary Preview: Elizabeth Garnetta King, the last child born of Dazrine Sims King and John King, Sr., was born on February 2, 1918 in Athens, Georgia, Clarke County.  Ms. King grew up in Athens, Ga and was educated in the Clarke County School System attending both West Broad Street School and Athens High and Industrial School graduating in 1936. Ms. King excelled in basketball while attending Athens High and Industrial School and was one of the first inductees into the Athens Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.
After completing high school, she went to Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia where she earned her bachelor’s degree in History.  Later and while working, she went summers to Atlanta University where she received the Masters of Arts degree in education. Ather the integration of the University of Georgia, she completed  post graduate studies there.
When she graduated from Spelman College, she began her teaching career in 1943 at the Comer, Georgia School for Blacks. She taught there for two years. In 1945, she was hired to teach at her Alma Mater, Athens High and Industrial School.  While there she taught social studies, history, and French.
Ms. King was the girls’ basketball coach at Athens High and Industrial from 1945 to 1970.  She was also coordinator of track and field, the trainer for cheerleaders and majorettes and served in many other capacities. She continued her teaching and coaching career at Clarke Central High School until her retirement in 1978.
In August 2012, the former Athens High and Industrial/Burney Harris High School gymnasium was named in her honor to be the Elizabeth G. King Gymnasium.  In February 2018, Nancy B. Denson, Mayor of the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County, Georgia honored Ms. King by declaring February 3, 2018 as Elizabeth G. King Day in Athens-Clarke County in honor of her 100th Birthday.
Ms. King grew up attending Hill Chapel Baptist Church and was an active member serving in a variety of roles. She was also a member of many educational, civic and social organizations to include the Iota Psi Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority Inc., Athens High and Industrial/Burney Harris High School Alumni Association, The National Alumnae Association of Spelman College, Clarke County Teachers Association, The Retired Educators Association, The Athenians Social Club and The Bon-Bons Social and Civic Club, Athenian Social and Civic Club, The Athens Athletic Hall of Fame, Life Member of the Major League Baseball Club, and Life Member of the History Society.  She lived a life of help and service whenever she could in her quiet and studious way.
She is survived by her niece, Mrs. Gladys Gardenshire; “adopted children” and their families; Mrs. Freddie B. Jackson and Mrs. Sarah R. Tate (Henry).  Special Godchildren, Mr. Gregory Hull, Mrs. Barbara Archibald (Wrenford) and Mrs. Elizabeth Platt (Frank); Adopted Grandchildren, Xernona Thomas (Reginald), K. Shaun Tate and Eric Tate (Angkana); great-grandchildren, Jameson and Camille Thomas, Destiny, Demetrius and Donavon Pope and Kammali and Maya Tate; Great-great-grandson Daylin Moses; several great nieces and nephews; two dedicated care providers, Ms. Carloyn Adams and Ms. Lisa Merritt and her Hill Chapel Baptist Church family.
