Obituary Preview: George Nelson Baxley, 65, lifetime resident of East Liberty, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 11, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Nelson loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also loved farming, living almost his entire life on the Baxley family farm. Honest, with a good heart, he also had a very strong work ethic which started at age 13 when he began trapping to earn his spending money. In his older years, he liked to reward his long work days with a cold Miller Genuine Draft. An avid deer hunter, NASCAR fan, and San Francisco Forty-Niners fan, he also played softball for many years. His true passion and enjoyment came from his time spent fishing for Walleye on Lake Erie.
A 1975 graduate of Benjamin Logan High School, Nelson has farmed all of his life and also worked at Honda of America for 26 years, retiring in 2007.
Born August 10, 1956 in Bellefontaine, he was the son of the late Herbert V. Baxley and Gracie (James) Bullock.
It was during his time at Honda that a young lady named Deborah Holford would catch his eye, and soon after they would marry on April 12, 1984 in Bellefontaine. They would share one day short of 38 years together. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his step-mother, Ardella S. Baxley of East Liberty; children, Nicholas Scharf of Columbus, Erin Scharf of Lakeview and Kelly (fiancé, Lindsay Blumenschein) Baxley of East Liberty; grandchildren, Connor Scharf, Gabe Fortner, Kaylee Queen, Hayden Baxley, Evelyn Baxley, Kali Baxley and Brady Baxley; brothers and sisters, Tracey (Shelley) Baxley of West Mansfield, Stacy (Scott) Faller of Fairborn, Rod Bullock and Missy Bullock, both of Orlando, FL; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.

A 1966 graduate of St. Joseph High School in Wapakoneta, she enjoyed writing and spending time with her grandchildren, especially when they could share time outdoors.
Born May 26, 1947 in Lima, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Dorothy (Stark) Leppla.
On February 10, 1996, she married her husband of 26 years, Willis D. Lantz, and he survives in Bellefontaine. She is also survived by her daughters, Dawn Skeen of Bellefontaine, Tammy (Glen) Higginbotham of Bellefontaine; a son, Michael (Shawna) Harrod of Spencerville; step-children, Scott (April) Lantz of Bellefontaine, Michael (Jennifer) Lantz of Dover and Joshua Lantz of Bellefontaine; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; her brothers, John (Kathy) Leppla of Mt Orab, Franz (Gretchen) Leppla of FL, Martin (Linda) Leppla of Uniopolis and Gary (Teresa) Leppla of Wapakoneta; a sister, Maria Cummings; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the West Mansfield Baptist Church. Obituary Preview: Peggy L. Farrington, 85, of West Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 4, 2022 at the Kenton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with her family by her side.
A homemaker for her husband and children, she also worked at TRC for 18 years. An avid reader, she also enjoyed mowing her yard, working crossword puzzles and watching OSU Basketball with Dallas. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved watching them play sports and participate in any other activity.
Born February 2, 1937 in Logan County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Alma Maxine Seaman. On September 1, 1955 in Indiana, she married her husband of over 66 years, Dallas T. Farrington, and he preceded her in death on February 10, 2022. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Douglas and her sisters, Nancy and Jean.
She is survived by her son, Ken (Deb) Farrington of West Mansfield; daughters, Vicki (Earl) Webb of West Mansfield and Jodi (Shawn) Welch of Ridgeway; grandchildren, Cory (Tami) Savage, Brian (Kayla) Savage, Dustin (Amber) Farrington, Chelse (Shane) Hamilton, Tabitha (Scott) Eatherton, Tasha (Zeb) Taylor, Tyler Webb, Colton (Beth) Clark and Will Welch; several great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends. Obituary Preview: Beverly Jo Allen, 82, of Bellefontaine passed away Monday, February 14, 2022 at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine following a brief illness.
She was employed for 20 years with Westinghouse and 13 years with Siemens before retiring in 2001.  She was a 1957 graduate of Triad High School where she was a cheerleader and standout basketball player. She and her husband loved camping and traveling and her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She was also a member of the First Friends Church of Bellefontaine.
Born August 12, 1939 in North Lewisburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Dortha (Ewing) Taylor.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by an infant son, Bobby Allen; brothers, Charles and Raymond Taylor, and a son-in-law, Randy Hurst.
Survivors include her husband  of 65 years, Richard W. Allen, to whom she was married on February 2, 1957, at the North Lewisburg Friends Church by  Raymond Graham; children,  Richard “Mike” Allen of Lima, Deborah Johnson, Diana Sue Hurst, and John Allen, all of Bellefontaine and Lorrinda Anne (James) Cushwa of Lovila, IA; grandchildren,  Steve (Amy) Reames, Chad (Amanda) Wilt, Mikey (Stormy) Allen, Timothy Allen, Kasi Johnson, Kari Johnson, Sarah Allen, Joey (Rob) Ewing, and Lyndsie (Shawn) McGuire; great-grandchildren, Chad Jr, Paige, Ryan, Ethan, Stevie Jr, Katie, Sebastian, Zoey, Sammy, Ryder, Karsyn, Kaesyn, Braden, Vanessa, Jack and Waylon; a great-great grandchild; her sister, Sharon Taylor Blanke of Canton; brothers, Marion Taylor of Huntsville and Jack (Barbara) Taylor of Bellefontaine; several nieces and nephews; and dear friends whom were like family, Joe Rosebrook, Dale Johnson, Pete Hatfield, Joni Bateman Elleman, Mark Bateman, Bob (Gidget) Eleyet and Chris Fry. A devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, he was a lifelong dairy farmer in the West Mansfield area after graduating from Byhalia High School. Having a strong work ethic, he enjoyed the little “downtime” of a farmer when he could sit down to watch an OSU Basketball game or one of the old westerns he could find to watch.
Born February 25, 1937 in Logan County, he was the son of the late Harold and Gladys (Brooks) Farrington. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Doug Farrington; sisters, Irene and Betty; and his brothers, Murl, Russell, Jim, Bob, Dick and Junior.
On September 1, 1955 in Indiana, he married his wife of over 66 years, Peggy (Seaman) Farrington, and she survives in West Mansfield. Lloyd G. "Doc" McNamee - September 03, 1923 - January 28, 2022

Obituary Preview: Lloyd G. “Doc” McNamee, 98, of West Mansfield, passed away peacefully Friday morning at Bluebird of Marysville.
A graduate of Bokescreek Local High School, he proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. Doc owned and operated the Standard Oil Stations in West Mansfield and East Liberty from 1965-1988. He also farmed most of his life and raised corriedale sheep.
A devoted husband, loving daddy, grandpa and Papa Doc, he loved spending time with his family. A faithful member of the West Mansfield United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post 603 in West Mansfield where he was always active with the Memorial Day activities, the Masonic Lodge #247 F & AM in East Liberty, the Lions Club of West Mansfield, the Union Bank Board and the West Mansfield Conservation Club. He was a former member of the Benjamin Logan School Board and formerly served on the Village Council in West Mansfield. He always enjoyed the trips to California to visit Leesa and the Air Force reunions he attended with Mary Lou. Doc was also a proud, lifelong Republican.
Born September 3, 1923 in West Mansfield, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Minnie Lucile (McGee) McNamee. On September 6, 1947 in Kentucky, he married his wife of over 65 years, Mary Lou Bechtel and she preceded him in death on January 30, 2013. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by a twin brother, Lester McNamee and a brother-in-law, Richard Bechtel.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda (Joe) Hughes of Bellefontaine, Luann (Jim) Culp of West Mansfield, Lorre (Ron) Culp of Marysville and Leesa McNamee of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, Amy (Scott) Fecher, Jennifer (Nathan) Kearns, Betsy (Luke) Reames, Ann (Chad) Carpenter, Jon (Holly) Culp, Joe (Mary) Culp, Andrea (Jon) Hoch, Jeff (Megan) Culp and Lila McNamee; his great grandchildren who affectionately called him Papa Doc, Tyler, Audrey, Zane, Rowan, Samuel, Brice, Cedar, Evan, Elliot, Eli, Emarie, Wyatt, Olive, Palmer and James and a sister-in-law, Arlene Bechtel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 5, 2022 at the West Mansfield United Methodist Church. Pastor John Rozewicz will officiate and burial will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Logan County Honor Guard. Obituary Preview: Shirley E. Garvin, 85, of Bellefontaine, entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Logan Acres Care Center in Bellefontaine.
Shirley was a 1954 graduate of Bokescreek Local High School. She went on to earn degrees from the Columbus Business College and Bob Jones University. Shirley worked in administrative sales with Sears and accounting with the State of Ohio.
A former member of the Northwest Bible Church in Hilliard, she enjoyed visiting various church groups. She was also a very active volunteer of Relay for Life.
Shirley was a 25 year cancer survivor. Born August 9, 1936 in Harper, she was the eldest daughter of John L. and Beula
(Rogers) Garvin. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, June Garvin; a brother, Robert L. (Bob); a sister-in-law Shirley Ann Garvin, and a brother-in-law, Edwin Green.
She is survived by her brothers, John R. Garvin of Dublin, J. Ronald (Rebeca) Garvin of Naples, FL, Philip D. Garvin of Dublin; sisters, Anita Green of Bellefontaine and Kathleen of Dublin, Step-mother, Ruth D. Garvin of Bellefontaine and sisters-in-law Marilyn of Columbus and Carmel (Robert) Garvin of Hilliard; 13 nieces and nephews and 26 great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 P.M. Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Wilson Funeral Home, Schnurrenberger Chapel 222 W. Center St. West Mansfield. Pastor Jeff Willetts will officiate and burial will be held at the North Greenfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Obituary Preview: Charles Allen “Al” Meddles, 80, of Bellefontaine, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at his residence.
A devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, Charlie was pure and simple, a family man. He loved fishing, camping, boating, hunting and traveling. He would often combine these with his greatest love, his family, into family vacations allowing him to not only spend time with his family, but also pass on his love and knowledge of fishing to his children and grandchildren. Some of the favorite destinations were the fishing trips to Michigan and Wisconsin. He and his wife also owned and operated Meddles Christmas Tree Farm. They established a loyal customer base in which he took great pride as he helped those families create holiday traditions.
A graduate of East Liberty High School, he worked as a control specialist with RANCO in Plain City for over 30 years. He was a member of the Eagles #3506 and the Moose #1651, both in Marysville and formerly attended the East Liberty United Methodist Church.
Born March 5, 1941 in East Liberty, he was the son of the late William and Elsie (Dubbs) Meddles. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Meddles.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Thelma (Bowman) Meddles of Bellefontaine; a son, Walter (Jerrilu) Meddles of Milford Center; a daughter, Deborah (Steven E.) Daum of Marysville; grandchildren, Lake and Heath Meddles, Derek (Eliza) Daum, Lacy (Tyler) Arthur, Amanda (Nate) Douridas and Alexandria (Daryl) Friesen; 13 great grandchildren; a sister, Charlotte Potter of Bellefontaine; a brother, William “Bill” (Gail) Meddles of East Liberty; nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends. In keeping with Charlie’s wishes, no calling hours or services will be held at this time. Burial will be held at a later date in the East Liberty Cemetery. James E. "Harv" Harvey - July 23, 1946 - January 18, 2022

Obituary Preview: James E. “Harv” Harvey, 75 of West Mansfield, died early Tuesday morning, January 18, 2022 at The James. He was born July 23, 1946 in Kenton to the late Harry Burl and Emily Dolores (Benedict) Harvey. On June 8, 1968 he married the former Vicki Kavanagh in Blissfield, MI and she survives. He was a member of the West Mansfield United Methodist Church. Harv graduated from Buckeye Local High School in 1964 and earned his undergrad degree from Ohio Northern University in 1970, eventually earning his Master’s Degree from Purdue University in 1992. He worked as a Project Engineer for 25 years in Indianapolis for Western Electric, later known as AT&T, Lucent and Celestica. He had also worked for Transportation Research Center (TRC) in East Liberty engineering crash tests. Harv was well-traveled in his career, working in Brazil, China, and Germany at different times, sharing his engineering expertise. He also enjoyed leisure traveling, taking numerous camping and fishing trips over the years with his family. He was an avid beekeeper and gardener. The most important thing to Harv was family. He was always there for his children and grandchildren, either participating or supporting them in whatever activities they were involved with. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Dustin (Kim) Harvey, Mason; Chad (Katie) Harvey, Indianapolis; five grandchildren, Kyle, Paige, Brooke, and Sarah Harvey, and Thomas Harvey; two brothers, Roger (Linda) Harvey, Brownsville, TX; Joe (Marcia) Harvey, The Villages, FL; a brother-in-law, Steve (Linda) Kavanagh, Marysville; two sisters-in-law, Rae Nita (Joe) Elliot, West Mansfield; Carolyn Scheiderer, Delaware; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Charles A. "Charlie" Bray - September 29, 1930 - January 18, 2022

Obituary Preview: Charles A. “Charlie” Bray, 91, of West Mansfield, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at his residence.
He was a dandy. They say “only the good die young.” Well, they’re probably right, because this ornery bastard made it to the ripe old age of 91. Charlie never got cheated in his life. A 1948 graduate of East Liberty High School, he went on to work with Conrail Railroad for 40 years. A lifelong farmer, Charlie showed horses and sheep at local fairs for many years. He was a member of the Hardin County Draft Horse Association and formerly served as a judge at the Hardin County Fair. In addition to raising and showing horses, he also loved going to the horse races. He was a 70 year member of the East Liberty Lodge #247 F&AM, member and Past Patron of Bellefontaine Chapter #459 of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the United Transportation Workers for over 60 years and a longtime member of the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church.
Born September 29, 1930 in East Liberty, he was the son of the late Harry G. and Minnie M. (Bell) Bray. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his previous wife, Dottie Bray on August 1, 2004; a grandson, Jacob R. Bray; a great grandson, Titus A. Warne; and a sister, Ruth M. Rupp.
Charlie is survived by his daughter, Lori (Joe) Adelsberger of Rogersville, TN; sons, Harry (Jayme) Bray of East Liberty, John (Cherie) Bray of DeGraff and Bill Bray of West Mansfield; grandchildren, Sheryn (Barry), Jeremy (Jessica), Emily (Joe), Kerri, Adam, Chasity, Jayla, Bo, Joshua (Rachael), Erin and Jacquie; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; close friends, Abie and Wilma Bontraegger; and many other friends.

A devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, Jerry was an “Old Hippie” that always had a smile on his face and laughter surrounding him. Quite the collector, he especially enjoyed collecting marbles and buttons. He also enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, but most all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he worked as a truck driver most of his life and retired from International Paper in Kenton.
Born September 5, 1949 in Columbus, he was the son of the late Thomas Hobart and Christine (Randall) Cremeans. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Tom McNelly and Robert Hobart.
On December 31, 1976 in Caldwell, he married his wife of nearly 45 years, Diane (Carpenter) Hobart and she survives in Belle Center. A loving husband, father, son, brother and grandson, Tommy also had a fun-loving, ornery personality that will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He enjoyed going to car shows and proudly showing his 2 1968 Ford Mustangs he restored, meticulously mowing his yard to perfection, tinkering around the house and garage and 4-wheeling. Most of all, he cherished his time spent with his family and friends.
A 1995 graduate of Ridgemont High School, he went on to earn his certificate in Diesel Technologies from the University of Northwestern Ohio. He began working in the family business Payne’s Garage and retired from MEI/GLA after 20 years of service. Not one to sit still, he recently went back to working at the garage to help his Dad.
Born March 29, 1977 in Bellefontaine, he is the son of Ora Thomas “Tom” and Conneetta (Henry) Payne, and they survive in West Mansfield. On June 30, 2007 in Gatlinburg, TN, he married his wife of over 14 years, Mollie (Miller) Payne, she also survives in Ridgeway. Tommy is also survived by his daughters, Shelby Payne of Bellefontaine, Tommi Jo (TJ) Payne of Ridgeway and Harley Payne of Ridgeway; grandchildren, Adan Lane and Kennedy Rector; a sister, Lindsay (Shaun) McCafferty of Urbana; grandmother, Carol Sue Grow of West Mansfield and his father and mother-in-law, Greg and Connie Miller of West Liberty, along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins and other extended family and friends.

Born October 14, 1929 in Newport, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Yolanda (Cappelletti) Iantoni.  She is survived by her children, Linda (John) Soughan of Millburn, NJ, John A. Schnurrenberger of Dallas, TX and Susan (Ronald) Ridge of West Mansfield; grandchildren John P. Soughan of New York, NY, Katherine Soughan of Millburn, NJ, Sydney Schnurrenberger of Los Angeles, CA, Sofia Schnurrenberger of Dallas, TX,  Nicolas Ridge of Columbus, OH and Madison Ridge of West Mansfield; step grandchildren  Ryan (Melanie Havens) Ridge of Bellefontaine, Colin (Taylor) Ridge of West Mansfield, Dylan (Stephanie Luczkowski) Ridge of New Albany; step great grandchildren Mason, Kamryn, Ivy, Briar, Bennett and Miles.  A brother, Robert (Judy) Iantoni, preceded her in death.
Marie was a graduate of Vesper George School of Art in Boston, MA.  Following graduation, she worked for Barbizon in New York, NY doing design work.  She and John met in Newport, RI while he was an officer in the United States Navy. John and Marie eventually settled and raised their family in West Mansfield where they owned and operated the Schnurrenberger Funeral Home for 25 years.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  In addition to being an awesome cook and pie maker, she was an accomplished seamstress whose artistic talent shone through in the many costumes and clothes she made for her family.  She was a faithful member of the West Mansfield United Methodist Church and a long time member of the Silver Circle of King’s Daughters. Ruth was born on June 11, 1928, in West Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Harold Huffman and Donna (Norviel) Huffman. She married Harold Small on August 26, 1949, and he preceded her in death on June 8, 1962. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Major Ret. William Lynn Huffman.
Ruth married Arthur Rausch on July 3, 1964, and he survived only one day without her, passing away on Monday, November 29, 2021.
Ruth is survived by daughter Jill (John) Phillips of Zanesfield, grandson, Bob (Marla) Green of Bellefontaine; great-grandsons Lane Green of Fairfield; Hayden Green, Gunnar Green and Gavin Green of Bellefontaine; sister Jane Meier of Marysville; many Huffman, Norviel, Small and Rausch family members; and special forever friends.
Ruth was a devoted Christian and lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in West Mansfield and loved her church family.  As a young woman, she held various jobs in West Mansfield, including  telephone operator. She retired from Westreco in Marysville after a 27 year career there. She loved taking care of her dogs, talking on the phone to dozens of friends and family members of all ages, taking everyone’s worries on as if her own, and anything “sparkly”. She had a great and contagious laugh, and until the very end, had a sharp and quick wit. The words “She’s amazing!” were heard over and over again describing her courage and determination. Simply, she was a loving and loyal wife, mother, Gram, and friend. Due to COVID precautions and Ruth’s wishes, a small private gathering and service will be held, and burial will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery in West Mansfield. A loving homemaker for her family, she also worked for a short time at Clancy’s Restaurant and Dodge Orthodontist, both in Bellefontaine. She was a long time member of the West Mansfield United Methodist Church and also a member of the American Legion Post 603 Ladies Auxiliary.
Born August 6, 1930 in Union County, she was the daughter of the late Lowell and Muriel (Fox) Longbrake. On May 28, 1955 in West Mansfield, she married Kenneth E. Foreman and he preceded her in death on January 4, 2020. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Tom Foreman and a great granddaughter, Sky Lhamon.

“Buckeye Jim” as his friends and family new him best was a graduate of Elgin High School, he also attended Columbus State University in his earlier years, where he developed his love for learning and obtaining knowledge. Although small in stature, he had an immeasurable personality and presence, one that you could never forget. He had a fierce love for his family and was a kind loving man. He would give the shirt off of his back to anyone in need and was always willing to give a helping hand. His daughter Leiah and granddaughter Adalynn were the joys of his life and he loved nothing more than being a dad and a “purple” as Adalynn referred to him. He loved watching football, and was a loyal Ohio State Buckeyes fan. His hobbies included watching movies, fishing, spending time with loved ones and tinkering on anything he could get his hands on. He was a very intelligent man and An avid reader. He always kept up on current events and being a proud Democrat, he was also always prepared and eager for a good debate, anytime anyone was up for it.
James was a hard worker and took pride in providing for his family. He loved working as an electrician with HBI Electric for many years where he eventually retired from. In his younger years, he worked as a foreman with Bell Construction and loved to show off his work that they accomplished.
James was an honorable man and was never afraid to stand up for what he believed in. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten by all the people he has touched along the way. In keeping with James’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services held at this time. A Celebration of Life service is being planned by the family and will be announced at a later date. A devoted wife, loving mother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law and dear friend, Robin enjoyed sewing, quilting and cooking. She loved spending time gardening, whether it was in her flower gardens or the vegetable garden. She enjoyed watching the birds in the birdhouses and bird feeders around her yard. An avid collector of miniature horse statues, she began collecting as a child and her affinity for horses is evident now with the grapevine horse statue in the front yard. Having a knack for gift giving, she always had the perfect gift for family on any occasion. Above all, Robin cherished her time spent with her family the most, especially family gatherings.
A 1976 graduate of Benjamin Logan High School, she was a medical transcriptionist with Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine for over 44 years.
Born October 12, 1957 in Kenton, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Marilyn (Bailey) Clingerman. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Dayna Clingerman and Daria Roberts and a dear friend, Peggy Patrick.
50 years ago, she would have a date with a young boy, who would later become her husband of nearly 40 years. On November 27, 1981 in East Liberty, she married Roger Goff and he survives in West Mansfield. She is also survived by her daughter, Ciara (Ryan Harman) Goff of Hilliard; a sister, Rory (Mike Horvath) LeVan of West Mansfield; brothers-in-law, Dale (Linda) Goff, Thomas (Karen) Goff, Bradley Goff; sisters-in-law, Beverly Goff and Betty Lou (Tim) VanBuskirk; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

Mike loved being outside, taking care of his yard, whether it was mowing or tending to the garden. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, going to watch the tractor pulls and in his younger years was often out to compete in the tractor pulls. Known for his willingness to help, he was always there to lend hand anywhere it was needed.
A 1967 graduate of Kenton High School, he first worked for the Erie Lackawana Railroad, moved on to farming before driving truck for many years with Central Transport. He then started his own company, Coats Trucking which he owned and operated until he retired. Retirement didn’t last long, most recently he was driving again, working with Black Trucking.
Born January 20, 1949 in Kenton, he was the son of the late Thurman W. and Juanita (Clapsaddle) Coats. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Opal Sproull.
On September 26, 2016 at their home in West Mansfield, he married Miriam (Hitt) Coats and she survives in West Mansfield. A 1969 graduate of Logan Hills High School, she went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from Ohio Northern University 1973.
Daria was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was passionate about her chosen profession of psychiatric nursing and worked at Marion General Hospital in the mental health unit for 30 years.  She loved and taught everyone around her to love and respect all living creatures. Her compassion for the broken, forgotten and lost was seen in not only her work with mental health, but also on her little farm. She rescued and cared for many cats, dogs, birds and of course her chickens for many years. She loved spending time on her farm caring for the animals and her gardens. She was a gentle woman with the strength of steel, soft spoken and quiet, humble and forgiving. She guided her children through all of life's ups and downs by asking them questions to seek their own answers. She also loved spending time with her family, especially her sisters, with whom she spent every holiday. She also loved to travel. She and Jim took numerous cruises and adventures together and made many lasting memories, one of her favorites being Alaska or just about anything outdoors.
Born October 2, 1951 in Logan County, she was the daughter of the late Edward Alonzo and Marilyn D. (Bailey) Clingerman. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister Dayna.
She is survived by her loving partner of more than 30 years, Jim Doolittle, of West Mansfield; her children, Brandon (Lonni) Roberts, Dustin (Wendy) Roberts, Renee (Michael Wood) Doolittle, Robyn Jackson and Ronda Blackman; grandchildren, Mason and Landon Roberts, Hayden Early, Reise and Rylee Anderson, Michael (Erika) Lockwood, Lizzie Farrell, Elijah and Adelaide Hughes, Cole Blackman, Caleb Blackman, Bailey, Skylar, Riley, Sydney and Peyton Jackson; great grandchildren, Morgan, Elijah and Kameron Lockwood;  her sisters, Robin (Roger) Goff and Rory (Mike Horvath) LeVan; nieces, Ciara (Ryan Harman) Goff and Cheyenne and Raistlyn LeVan along with numerous cousins and other extended family and friends.

Obituary Preview: Goldie Fern Garwood, 97 of West Mansfield passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at her residence.
A longtime associate of Uhlman’s Department Store, Goldie formerly was employed with P.K. Lumber during her husband’s employment tenure and also worked by his side for many years as an associate with Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home. She was a faithful member of the West Mansfield Church of Christ where she served as a Sunday school teacher and music leader and had been its longest serving member, joining in 1935.  Goldie attended West Mansfield High School.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Harriet Chapter #252 and was honored to serve as the Grand Representative to Tennessee in Ohio from 1997-1999.  She started in 1950 and was a charter member of the Star Light Circle of Kings Daughters and Sons and served as State Junior Director from 1965-1969.  She was a longtime member of the Hi-Point See-Saws Square Dance Club.  For several years she and her husband were campers at Kamp-A-Lot campground in Zanesfield and enjoyed traveling and camping with their Airstream trailer.  She was a devoted wife and will be remembered for her homemade fudge and her butterscotch and pecan pies.
She was born September 14, 1923, in West Mansfield to the late Lloyd and Clara Smith Orahood.  She was married to Francis “Bud” Garwood on July 12, 1943, in West Mansfield by Rev. Earl Bragg, and he preceded her in death on June 19, 2005.  She was also preceded in death by five sisters and their spouses, Frieda and Clarence Amos, Marie and Dale Wilson, Nadine and Dave Clagg, Minnie and Jack Jones and Sandra (Knight) Slaven and Willis Knight and Joe Slaven;  five brothers and their spouses, Charles and Doris Orahood, Frank and Francis Orahood, Fred and Elma Orahood, Fay and Beulah Orahood, and Francis “Fanny” Orahood; 2 sisters-in-law, Gertie Brown and Nikki (Bob) Orsborn;  and a nephew, David Orahood, who lived with Bud and Goldie for several years.
Survivors include a dear family friend whom Bud & Goldie treated as a daughter, Cindy McCurdy, and her daughters, Jenna & Julia, each of Springfield; her sister, Lela (Greydon) Hone, of Bellefontaine; a brother, Jack Orahood of West Mansfield; dear friends, Tamara Fleming and Nancy (Ronnie) Carpenter, both of West Mansfield along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, countless friends and her church family. Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, April 18th, 2021 at the Wilson Funeral Home, Schnurrenberger Chapel, 222 W. Center St. West Mansfield, Ohio.  Pastor Willis Moe will officiate and burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.  Friends may call prior to the service on Sunday from 1:00-3:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the West Mansfield Church of Christ or the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
