Wilmington Funeral and Cremation Obituaries

When a loved one passes away, an obituary is a touching way to celebrate their life and commemorate their impact on their friends, family, and community. In Wilmington, funeral homes and cremation services often handle the logistics of arranging obituaries. Let's explore more about Wilmington funeral and cremation obituaries and how you can create a meaningful tribute for your loved one.

The Role of Obituaries

An obituary serves multiple purposes. It's a public announcement of someone's passing, it lists survivors and funeral details, and it's a tribute to the deceased. In Wilmington, funeral homes often assist with obituaries, but it's possible (and sometimes preferable) to write one yourself.

Dominick M. Facciolo - December 15, 1934 - November 13, 2021

Departed: 11/13/2021 (Wilmington)
Obituary Preview: Dominick M. “Mimi” Facciolo, 86, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 13, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Wilmington on December 15, 1934, Mimi was the youngest of eight children of the late Salvatore and Josephine (Francia) Facciolo.
A lifelong Catholic, Mimi remained devoted to his faith, enjoying weekly mass and connecting with his friends and family there.  His greatest enjoyment was to be surrounded by his children and grandchildren, and of course, Betsy, his wife of 64 years.  Together, Mimi and Betsy were devoted grandparents, attending their grandchildren’s sports events, dance performances, and concerts without fail.  Look to the sidelines, or the front row, or the edge of the pool, and there was PopPop, every time.  Walk by the front porch, and there was Mimi, ready to chat.  Going to the beach? Mimi would go, too; he loved an adventure.  Race track? Mimi would grab his buddy (and son-in-law) Larry and off they’d go. He was known for just “dropping by” for a visit. Mimi enjoyed getting together and going to breakfast with his friends; when an invite came he was always ready to go anywhere.
Mimi spent many years working with All American Engineering, where he formed lasting friendships, and played on the company softball team.  As an athlete in his youth and always an avid sports fan, Mimi understood the importance of a good coach; so much so, that he ended up being a coach himself - for his sons’ sports teams. Mimi had a kind gentle soul with a deep love for animals. He had an affinity for taking in stray animals and spent many years rescuing and feeding strays. He was always happy to lend a hand, or chip in for a good cause. Those who knew Mimi loved him, and knew how generous he was with his time and resources for all his friends, family, and those in need.  If anything was broken or you needed something there he was ready to help fix it.  If Heaven has a cheerleader, Mimi is right there, up front.
Dominick Facciolo is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betsy (McGrath) Facciolo; his children, Lisa DiEmidio (Larry), Michael Facciolo, Angel Facciolo Moser, Maria Aitken (Paul), Amy Facciolo Rocco (Michael), and Stephen Facciolo (Judy); his grandchildren, Elisabeth Papaleo Vincent (Drew), Alexa Facciolo, Ethan Moser, Michael Facciolo, Sydney Aitken, Noah Facciolo, Samantha Facciolo, Michael Rocco, Emily Facciolo, Grace Aitken, and Nicholas Rocco, along with many extended family members and friends.
Mimi was predeceased by his sisters, Rose George and Catherine Petrucci; his brothers, Nicholas, Albert, Anthony, Gaetano and Joseph Facciolo.
Family and friends are invited to visit at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 4th Street and Bancroft Parkway, Wilmington on Monday, November 22 from 10:30-12:00PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00PM.  Interment will be held privately.

Ashle Wilson Bailey - December 24, 1970 - July 17, 2021

Departed: 07/17/2021 (Wilmington)
Obituary Preview: Ashle Wilson Bailey passed away in a tragic accident on Saturday, July 17, 2021 in Stone Harbor, NJ. She was a dual resident of Wilmington, DE and Stone Harbor, NJ.
Ashle was born in Wilmington, DE in December 1970 to Carol Dellose Wilson and Robert J. Wilson. She was a St. Mark’s High School and University of Delaware graduate. She joined her mom in launching Team Wilson. She loved her team every day of her 28-year career and was tirelessly devoted to her clients. Ashle and her team were continually recognized in the industry as one of the top performers, surpassing all expectations and earning one of the finest reputations in their field.
In 2003, Ashle married Robert “Scott” Bailey at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church and started a family with his two girls, Amanda and Lauren. Wilson and Rhett completed the family in 2004 and 2007, respectively, with family pets Riley, Grey, Stella, Bubba, and her precious lamby Lola. Over the past 18 years of marriage, Ashle has adored being a wife and mother. She prided herself on being a “St. Ann’s mom” for nearly 19 years and made sure she was at every swim meet, basketball game, chess match, triathlon, karate belt ceremony, and holiday concert.
Ashle was the most vibrant and joyous person. She cared about every single person who walked through the door, and she has touched so many lives so deeply. She was equally ready to dress up and go out to dinner with her family as she was to propose ordering pizza to the beach for the whole block. She loved traveling and was always ready for a new adventure, whether annual shopping in New York City with her mom and cousins for the holidays, spring break beach vacations with her girlfriends and children, or tropical destination getaways with her entire family. Despite loving her job, she always made sure to unplug and enjoy the moment with her husband and children. She loved nothing more than sitting on the beach and was already hard at work planning the annual block party for her 87th street family.
Ashle had a kind heart and turned every day into a party. She celebrated her birthday all month long in December, bringing together her family and close knit group of Wilmington friends. Despite her children and husband having birthdays very close together, Ashle made every birthday personalized and special. While she loved hunting down people’s favorite desserts from around town, her homemade ice cream cake was without fail the standout favorite with the kids.
Ashle is survived by her husband, Scott Bailey; daughters, Amanda and Lauren Bailey (23 and 21); sons, Wilson and Rhett Bailey (16 and 13); mother, Carol Wilson; and brother, Jamie Wilson; aunts, Evelyn Freeman and Eva Lessig. She is predeceased by her father, Robert Wilson. She is loved by so many cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and friends. She will forever be in our hearts.
The family will receive visitors at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 9th and DuPont Streets, Wilmington, DE on Monday, July 26 from 9:30-11:45AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00PM, with a reception to follow.
Entombment will be held privately for the immediate family in Cathedral Cemetery.
