Nancy Vogelsberg Carbone - May 07, 1943 - March 01, 2024

Departed: 03/01/2024 (West Saint Paul)
Obituary Preview: Nancy Carbone (née Vogelsberg), 80, of West St. Paul, MN passed away unexpectedly on March 1, 2024. Nancy was born May 7, 1943, the first of three children of Walter and Jeanne Vogelsberg. She grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia and graduated from Lower Merion High School in 1961. Ever the caregiver she pursued a career in nursing with her capping and pinning ceremony taking place at Lancaster General College of Nursing. She went on to serve as a nurse for over 30 years in hospitals and nursing homes in Massachusetts, North Dakota, and Maine. Even in retirement she continued to provide nursing care for ill friends and as a volunteer at blood pressure clinics.
In 1967 she met her husband Henry in Boothbay Harbor, ME while visiting her brother and sister who were working in the coastal community for the summer. They wed in 1969 and settled in Fort Kent, ME where Henry was a teacher.
She was an active and engaged mother to sons Hank and John, pausing her nursing career while they were little so she could run an in-home day care for them and their friends. She volunteered as a Cub Scout den leader, a nurse for Boy Scout camporees and religious scouting retreats, and traveled all over New England and New York to spectate and cheer at their ski and rowing races.
Nancy was active in the broader community as a state-wide leader in La Leche League, volunteer for the Cub and Boy Scout troops, and a variety of singing groups that she worked with to feed her love of music. That love of music was rivaled by her love of birds and she kept Henry busy with trips to prominent birding spots.
She and Henry relocated to Minnesota in 2013 to be closer to their grandchildren whom she adored dearly. She loved spending time with them and made it a point to attend every school concert, play, sporting or religious event of theirs that she could.
She was a devout Catholic, completing her Cursillo, and praying the rosary regularly. She was always generous with her love and welcoming of other faiths, annually making gingerbread Stars of David for her family who celebrate Hannukah. During the COVID pandemic she participated in prayer groups for the sick and recently deceased through St. Joseph’s church. The Maine Catholic Committee on Scouting recognized her volunteer efforts with the St. George Medal.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 54 years Henry, sister Susan Ochs, brother Wally Vogelsberg, sons Hank (Kellie) and John (Debbie), and grandchildren Sabre, Raymond, Sam, Jacob, and Ben.
Above all, Nancy was known for her incredibly large and compassionate heart and as someone who loved and cared for all. She was always thinking about and concerned for those who were not seen or who needed support. And for this, she will be remembered most.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 15 at the Church of St. Joseph’s located at 1154 Seminole Ave, West St. Paul, MN 55118 at 9am with a funeral mass following at 10am. Memorial donations may be sent to either the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Foundation or the American Diabetes Association.
