Margaret Joan Mary Austreim - May 18, 1925 - March 19, 2022

Departed: 03/19/2022 (Howard)
Obituary Preview: Margaret Joan Mary Austreim, age 96, of Howard, died Saturday, March 19, 2022, at her residence. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, March 25, 2022, at Beach United Methodist Church in Howard. Inurnment will follow at Belleview Lutheran Cemetery, rural Howard. Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Thursday, at the Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard.
Margaret Joan Mary Hooper was born in Southampton, England on May 18, 1925, to Kathleen (Jefford) and Leonard Hooper. Margaret, known as Peggy to her English family, was the oldest of 8 children.
Margaret attended St. Anne’s All-Girls School in Southampton up until the age of 9. WWII made it too dangerous to continue living in Southampton, so she moved to Devonshire and lived with her grandmother.
After finishing school, she had to work for the War effort. She had to take her turns watching for small bombs (incendiaries). Since raising food was considered war work, she worked for an opera singer, Lovett Crosley, who owned 3 large garden nurseries. Margaret met her husband, Orrin Austreim who was serving in the American Army, at a bus station in Southampton. For dates, they would walk around Southampton or picnic on St. Catherine's Hill under the Spitfire Bridge in Winchester. They fell in love, but Orrin had to leave England on D-Day and they would not see each other again for several years. They continued their relationship through letters. After the war ended, Margaret traveled to the United States on the Queen Elizabeth in January of 1947. While on the ship, the worst storm in fifty years occurred. She got very sea sick and lost a lot of weight. After arriving in New York City, she took a train to Woonsocket, SD, where Orrin met her and took her out for a steak dinner!
Margaret and Orrin were married on January 26, 1947, at Belleview Lutheran Church in rural Howard, SD, following morning worship. They were blessed with 3 children, Douglas, Kathleen, and Peggy, whom they raised on a farm north of Howard. They later retired in Howard, where Margaret was living at the time of her death. She attended Belleview Lutheran Church where she was an active member. She was a loving mother and grandmother that enjoyed going to family parties and activities. She will be remembered as quick witted, a wonderful cook and bread baker, a skilled knitter, a chocolate lover, and a daily tea drinker.
Margaret is survived by her son, Doug (Cheryl) of Brookings, SD and daughter Peggy (Tim) Clarke of Howard, SD; 10 grandchildren: Laura Curtler, Lisa Jenson, Allan Austreim, Andrew Austreim, Abigail Bisschop, Megan Wright, Emily Heilman, Kyle Quinn, Kevin Quinn, and Allison Muilenburg; 31 great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia White of Chandlersford, England; brother, Gerald (Shirley) Hooper of Chandlersford, England; a very special friend and neighbor, Gloria Bremmon and wonderful housekeeper, Diane Kleinsasser.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Orrin; her daughter Kathleen Quinn; sister, June Walker; and brothers, Peter, Brian, Leslie, and Tony Hooper.

Jason E. Nurnberg - March 26, 1974 - December 08, 2021

Departed: 12/08/2021 (Howard)
Obituary Preview: Jason E. Nurnberg, age 47, of Forestburg, passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at the Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 18, 2021, at the Sanborn County 4H Building in Forestburg. Burial will follow at Silver Creek Cemetery, rural Forestburg. Visitation will be 4-8 PM, Friday, December 17, 2021, at the Sanborn County 4H Building with a prayer service beginning at 8.
Jason Ernest Nurnberg was born on March 26, 1974, in Mitchell, to Doug and Elma (Hunter) Nurnberg. He was raised in the Forestburg area where he attended school through the 1st grade before attending school in Artesian where he graduated in 1992. Following high school, Jason attended Southwestern Technical College in Granite Falls, MN where he earned a degree in Robotics and Flexible Automation in the spring of 1994.
Jason began his working career shearing sheep and hoeing melons. He worked as a Maintenance/Automation Technician at several companies including Falcon Plastics, Twin City Die Castings, Hendrickson, and Graphic Packaging in Mitchell where he was employed at the time of his death.
He thoroughly enjoyed music, he was an avid guitar player and loved collecting Gibson guitars. For several years, he was a member of Scotty and the Melonheads which consisted of his brothers and a close friend. Jason’s love for the outdoors was infinite. His family and friends share countless memories hunting, fishing, and farming with him. Every year in June, he looked forward to his annual fishing trip with his buddies at Mobridge where many walleyes were caught, and stories were told. In 2017, he successfully harvested a nice bull elk in the Black Hills with his rifle. In 2019, he successfully drew his archery bull tag. He was again successful in his own mind because of all of the beautiful views the Black Hills had to offer. Unfortunately, this time he didn’t fill his tag. Above all, Jason loved chasing and hunting deer. Every year as the snow melted, he longed to go look for shed antlers so he could determine the location of the next Boone & Crockett buck he needed to put on the wall. His family and friends could always count on deer pictures from him on the famous bossbuckbuster@gmail.com e-mail address which he proudly owned.
Although never having children of his own, he loved kids, especially his nieces and nephews, always looking forward to spending time with them making another memory. He was a patient man who never had a lot to say. He was an excellent cook and his smile and laugh were contagious. His family remembers smiling and laughing simply because he was. Hands down his best quality was as a caretaker, especially for his mother following the passing of his father in 2011. He always made sure her requests and necessities were handled.
He was a member of the Forestburg Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his mother Elma of Forestburg; his three brothers, Russ (Kathy) Nurnberg of Watertown, Clint (Jeniffer) Nurnberg of Mitchell, and Scott Nurnberg of Forestburg; his nieces and nephews, Alex Nurnberg of Forestburg, Kala (Alec) Williams of Des Moines, IA; Kaden Nurnberg of Mitchell, and Taryn Nurnberg of Mitchell; one great-niece Millie; two great-nephews Jaxon and Tate; and many aunts, uncles, cousins; and a host of friends. He will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his father Doug; and one nephew Blake.

Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Artesian. Visitation will be 3-5 PM, Friday, at St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church in Sioux Falls, with a prayer service at 5.
Donald LaMoine Threadgold, the son of Robert and Doris Threadgold, was born October 25, 1948, at St. Joseph Hospital in Mitchell. He grew up on a farm west of Fedora and attended school in Fedora. He was proud to tell everyone he was Fedora High School’s last graduate in 1966. During his school years, he was active in basketball, football, fastpitch softball, and 4-H.
After high school, Don attended college at South Dakota State University graduating with an Ag Economics degree in 1970. Don was an active member of FarmHouse Fraternity, serving as President, and continuing to be an active alumni member.
At SDSU, Don met his future bride Kathleen Uckert. They were united in marriage on March 3, 1973, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clear Lake. Together, they raised 8 children and are blessed with 22 grandchildren.
Following college graduation, Don worked for the USDA Statistical Reporting Service in Sioux Falls. His famous wienerburger recipe, a family favorite, debuted at an office picnic. When Don’s job required relocating out of state, he chose to stay in South Dakota and began farming with his dad near Fedora in 1973.  The drought of 1976 brought Don to Artesian’s branch of LiveStock State Bank, later known as CorTrust Bank, where he began his 45-year career as Teller, Loan Officer, Branch Manager, Vice President, Board Member, and most-recently Farm Manager.
As an avid outdoorsman, Don always carried a gun in his pickup and was ready for any opportunity to hunt.  Opening day of pheasant season brought excitement, additional hunters, and plenty of treats for the kids.  The camaraderie with family and friends during hunting season created unforgettable memories each year.
Don loved adventure. He drove the van across the country, followed ND to Ireland, walleye fished on the Missouri, caught Salmon in Alaska, honeymooned in Hawaii, piloted his plane at 50, went dog sledding in Montana, chauffeured grandkids in the limo, taught all generations to drive, trekked through 5 states in 5 days in the RV, fed burrows at Custer, vacationed at Disney, perfected fudge and divinity, competed in Carbles and Pinochle with family, and celebrated numerous birthdays, graduations, and victories. He and Kathleen prioritized family baptisms, first communions, confirmations, and weddings.
He made a lasting impact because of his generosity. Continuing Don’s legacy are those he is survived by: his wife, Kathleen; daughter Maria (Joe) Palmquist of Boise, Idaho; grandchildren Aydan, Paige and Jace; son Thomas (Terri) Threadgold of Glen Allen, VA; grandchildren Anna, TJ, and Oscar; son Barry (Nicole) Threadgold of Carrington, ND; grandchildren Olivia and Alec; daughter Laura (Duane) Barringer of Winterset, IA; grandsons Brady, Ty, Jackson and Garrett; daughter Ann (Michael) Riggs of Lakeville, IN; grandsons Pierce and Braxton; daughter Joan (Willy) Edwards of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren Kade, Maddox, Teagan and Drue; daughter Theresa Weckerly of Milford, IA; grandchildren Isabel, Tristan, and Madeline; daughter Katie (Charles) Abel of Granger, Iowa; grandson Calvin; sisters Betty Ann (Dale) Anderson of LaBolt, SD, Kathie (Roger) Nordtvedt of Cottage Grove, MN, and Janice (Donell) Froehlich of Brookings; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
