Diane L. Carney - October 22, 1951 - May 11, 2024

Departed: 05/11/2024 (North Wales)
Obituary Preview: Diane L. (McNally) Carney, the life of every party and the queen of sequins, peacefully departed this world on May 11, 2024, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She was 72 years young.
Diane's life was a love story written in the stars. She shared 45 blissful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Kevin J. Carney, until his passing in 2019. She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by her devoted sons, Kevin (Shannon), Ryan (Kate), and Sean; her grandchildren, Owen, Michael, Claire, Molly, and Daniel, who will forever carry her spirit in their hearts; her siblings Patrick McNally (Vickie), Charlene Greene (Russell), Lynne Dutton (Bill), and Jim McNally; her in-laws, Margaret Morris (John), Kathleen Carney (Walt), and Val Smirnov; all of her nieces and nephews that she adored. She is predeceased by her sisters, Lorraine and Janice, sister-in-law Kate, and brother in law Thomas.
Born in Philadelphia, Diane was the cherished daughter of the late Hugh and Diane (Spittle) McNally. She pursued her education with the same enthusiasm she approached life, graduating from Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science. Armed with determination and spirit, Diane, alongside her husband, embarked on a journey that would lead them to establish their own successful business.
Diane had a zest for life that was as sparkling as her sequined wardrobe, a penchant for Motown tunes and the Rolling Stones, and loved to vacation in Anguilla for the beautiful beaches and to see her many friends she has made over the years. As an avid sports fan, she enjoyed watching baseball with her beloved “fourth son”, Andrew. She also had an allegiance to the Dallas Cowboys that was unwavering (when they were having a good season).
Despite her petite stature, Diane's personality was anything but small; hence, her grandkids affectionately dubbed her "BigMama" for her larger-than-life presence, big hair, and an infectious laugh that could shake the rafters.
Diane's spirit was one-of-a-kind and her presence illuminated every gathering. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her. While the world may seem a bit dimmer without her, her laughter will echo in our hearts for eternity and her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved her.
A celebration of Diane's life will be held at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart church, 100 Broad St, Hilltown Township, PA on May 20, 2024. Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM followed by her Funeral Mass at 11 AM. Her interment will be private.

Loving Aunt to nieces Deanna, Janet, Terri, Karen, Carole(Frank), Lorraine(Joe), Lisa(Albert) - nephews Greg, Dennis, Martin(Cheryl), Brother Roddy, Steven P., Gary, Stephen A.(Alyson) and Chris(Timi). Great Aunt to 9, Great-Great Aunt to 3.
As a young woman Lena and her sisters sang in the choir for Our Lady of Angels Church near their home in West Philadelphia. After school they would help out in the family store on Lancaster Avenue - "George's" - under the watchful eye of Dad, George Sr.
Her secretarial training enabled her to be employed by GE gaining military clearance high enough to become a Courier to Washington D.C. for GE and the Navy. Miss Pieretti takes the train to Washington! Oh, the stories she told.......
Then she met the love of her life Albert, married in 1961 and started a journey in Quakertown, Pa. Lena made a local farm house cozy for great meals and family holiday celebrations. The dream of an 18-hole golf course named Thunderbird was completed in 1968 just 11 yrs. after Albert started planning it in 1957. Son Richard followed his Dad's passion & became a Superintendent and Turf Specialist in Georgia where he resides with his family.
Lena spent her busy hours running the pro-shop, keeping golfers on time and fed, placing orders for equipment, bookkeeping, all household chores and preparing 3 fresh meals a day (always on time) for Al. Her loving German Shepherd, Roxanne, kept her company and Thunderbird safe.
The next phase of her life brought her to a golf course in Florida where she and Albert could practice their game daily. Lena was especially attentive on giving driving directions to her husband while coming North or settling into the Florida lifestyle. The past 8 yrs. brought Lena back to Pa. with her family, while residing at Elm Terrace Gardens where her friend/neighbor Linda checked on her daily. Her clothes were color coordinated for church and social events as well as her eyeliner, lipstick & earrings were in place. A tasty meal including a glass of wine would not hurt either!
A breast cancer survivor x 2, she overcame a lot of physical challenges to maintain her independent ways. Lena loved her family dearly, as well as her artwork, music, past travels, the Phillies and Eagles, definitely the Golf Channel.
Aunt Lena had a great laugh with a twinkle in those blue eyes. If the priorities of the day were in order and complete she was content.
Your family can never thank you enough for your endless love and making sure our lives were in order and complete. You're eternally in our thoughts.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 9:30 AM until her Funeral Mass 10:30 AM at St. Stanislaus Church, 51 Lansdale Ave., Lansdale, PA 19446.  Interment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing essential information to those who want to pay their respects. They help notify people of the passing, provide details about funeral services and memorial events, and offer a sense of closure for loved ones.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the obituary is written by the family of the deceased, often with the assistance of a funeral home or obituary writer. In some cases, a close friend or colleague may also contribute to the writing process.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also mention any notable accomplishments, military service, or charitable affiliations.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words. Longer obituaries may be more suitable for online platforms or memorial websites.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a more detailed tribute that provides additional biographical information and context.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a meaningful way to personalize the tribute and help readers connect with the person being remembered.

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and guidelines. Some newspapers may have online forms or email addresses for submitting obituaries, while others may require phone or in-person submissions.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, it's becoming increasingly common for people to write their own obituaries in advance. This can be a therapeutic exercise that allows you to reflect on your life and legacy. Keep in mind that your family may still need to review and edit the content before publication.

What is the cost of publishing an obituary?

The cost varies depending on the publication or platform. Newspapers often charge by the word or line, while online obituary platforms may offer free or paid options with varying levels of features and customization.

Can I publish an obituary online only?

Yes, many online platforms specialize in hosting obituaries and allowing users to share them on social media or via email. This can be a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional print publications.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The publication timeline varies depending on the platform or newspaper. Online obituaries can often be published within hours or days, while print publications may take longer due to production schedules and deadlines.

Can I make changes to an already-published obituary?

Contact the publication or platform where the obituary was published to inquire about their correction policy. Some may allow minor corrections or updates, while others may not permit changes once the obituary has been published.

What if I want to keep the obituary private?

If you prefer not to share the obituary publicly, you can opt for a private or password-protected online memorial page. Alternatively, you can choose not to publish an obituary at all and instead share news of the passing through personal networks.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial funds in an obituary?

Yes, many families choose to include information about charitable donations or memorial funds in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased and support a cause they cared about.

How do I find an old obituary?

How do I handle errors or inaccuracies in an already-published obituary?

Contact the publication or platform where the error occurred and request corrections as soon as possible. They may issue a formal correction or apology notice.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Yes! Quotes, lyrics, or poems can add depth and meaning to an obituary. Choose selections that resonate with the deceased's personality, interests, or values.

What is the role of an obituary writer?

An obituary writer assists families in crafting a well-written and meaningful tribute that honors their loved one. They may conduct interviews, research biographical information, and provide guidance on tone and style.

Can I create a video obituary?

Yes! Video tributes are becoming increasingly popular as a way to celebrate a person's life through images, music, and storytelling. You can create your own video using personal footage and photos or work with a professional videographer.

How do I share an online obituary on social media?

Most online platforms provide easy sharing options for social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. You can also copy and paste the link into emails or messaging apps to share with friends and family.

Can I update an online obituary after it's been published?

This depends on the platform's policies. Some may allow updates or additions over time, while others may not permit changes once the initial publication has occurred.
