Obituary Preview: Benjamin Charles Grimes, 77, passed away peacefully Sunday, 12 May 2024. Born August 3rd, 1946, in Philadelphia, PA. Ben was the son of the late Benjamin Grimes and Marie (McTaggart) Grimes. Ben was married for over 35 years to his wife Nancy.
Ben grew up on Oakland Street in the Frankford section of Philadelphia with his two older sisters Alice, and Elaine (deceased), and his younger brother Jerry. The four siblings shared a great amount of love and had an infectious sense of humor when around each other. He attended and graduated from North Catholic High School in 1964. After High School it wasn’t long before Ben started work for the Teamsters Union local 107, where he would proudly work for over 25 years. Shortly after he entered the work force, he met and married his first wife Joanne (Egan) Genung (deceased). The couple settled in Glenside, PA and had two sons Benjamin and Matthew. The couple parted ways in 1982 but would co-raise their sons with much love and support.
In 1985 Benjamin met the love of his life, Nancy (Cummings) Grimes and they were married in 1988. Nancy was a successful RN and brought to the union her two children, Andrew Henry and Kristin (Henry) Nottonson who Ben adored and loved as his own. Ben and Nancy settled in Wyncote, PA where they thrived. The couple was well loved in their neighborhood where they easily made many lifelong friends and enjoyed entertaining with their legendary holiday parties and BBQs. Ben continued to work for the Teamster Union proudly retiring after a long and successful career. One in which he had the opportunity of meeting many celebrities in his position as a theatrical teamster, which involved driving dressing room trailers for the film industry in New York City and Philadelphia. He quickly found the retired life wasn’t all it was cracked up to be and eagerly went back to work for many more years at the Brian Gould Company in Pennsauken NJ, working alongside his brother and best buddy Jerry. Once their children were grown, Ben and Nancy moved to Newark, DE to be closer to Nancy’s work and to live in their Dream Home in the country. Again, the couple were loved by their neighbors and enjoyed entertaining family and friends alike at their pool parties and many gatherings. Most recently, Ben and Nancy lived in Maris Grove, Glen Mills, PA until Nancy’s passing this past January.
Benjamin C. Grimes lived a rich and wonderful life. He had a green thumb and was an avid gardener. Ben was also a lifelong golfer and loved nothing more than being outdoors on the course with his family and friends, having attended many tournaments including the Master’s and even volunteering his time working the US Open. He most relished spending time with his family, especially his nine grandchildren which he loved with all his heart. Ben was greatly loved by all that met him, and he will be fondly remembered by the all the people whose lives he touched.
Ben is survived by his sister Alice (Grimes) Donnelly; his brother Gerald Grimes and his sister-in-law Sheila (Sutcliffe) Grimes; his son Benjamin Grimes; his daughter-in-law Jacqueline (Dunn) Grimes and his grandson Sam (15); his son Matthew Grimes; his daughter-in-law Jeanine (Lydon) Grimes and his grandchildren Maureen (18), Grace (16) and Jack (14); his stepson Andrew Henry; his daughter-in-law Jennifer (Wiley) Henry and his grandchildren Bryan (18), Cole (16), and Margaux (13); His step-daughter Kristen (Henry) Nottonson; his son-in-law Keith Nottonson and his grandsons Jasper (14) and Milo (11).

Sr. Gloria Petrone, aci, 82, a member of the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, died peacefully on May 8th, surrounded by Handmaids and her family in Saint Joseph Villa.
Sr. Gloria was a daughter to the late Helen and Roque Petrone. She met the Handmaids during formative years at Ancilla Domini Academy and entered the convent soon after graduation in 1959. With a M.Sc. in Biology, she was a gifted teacher and influenced many young lives through schools in Philadelphia, Miami and Dublin, Ireland. Sr. Gloria was passionate about solidarity with those living on the margins, especially in El Salvador where she coordinated a volunteer ministry with Project Fiat. Later in Miami, she dedicated herself to caring for those in Camillus House who were homeless, hungry and forgotten. Sr. Gloria is remembered for her joyful and generous spirit. She is survived by her Handmaid community and a loving extended family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on May 29th at 10:30 AM at Saint Joseph Villa. Relatives and friends are invited for Visitation preceding the Mass beginning at 9:00 AM.

Harry Egner - April 08, 1941 - May 04, 2024

Obituary Preview: Harry C. Egner passed away at home peacefully on May 4, 2024 surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born April 8, 1941 in Glenside, PA, Harry was the oldest of four children to John and Bernadette Egner. He went on to graduate from St. Joseph's Prep ('59) and College of the Holy Cross ('63). He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves for six years at Naval Air Station Willow Grove. He then became a long-time resident of Yardley, PA for 44 years, where he and his wife, Holly, raised four children. Harry had a distinguished career in New York City in the publishing industry, covering many well known titles such as The Saturday Evening Post, Life, Fortune, Pro Quarterback, Argosy, Signature, and Practical Homeowner. He was most proud of his time at Citigroup as the President of their Publishing and Merchandise Direct Marketing divisions.
Upon retirement, Harry and Holly moved to the Jersey Shore in Stone Harbor, NJ. Most mornings would find him reading the newspaper and checking the tide tables for opportunities to go fishing with family and friends. He always allowed guests to keep the flounder they caught, but not before he cleaned and fileted the legal-catch for them. He was an avid baseball fan and took pride in watching nearly every Phillies game. Five o’clock would find him with a drink in his hand, laughing, and sharing good moments with loved ones before Shore dinners. Harry was a caring husband and a festive party host. He was a proud father that urged on his children with ethics, accountability, and responsibility while enjoying life. As a grandfather, he took delight in spoiling grandkids with weekend donut runs, shucking corn together on the deck after a visit to the farm stand, and awarding the winner in his annual Thanksgiving pumpkin-smashing contests. He cared deeply for his community and country as an active member in local organizations, including the American Legion. He was appreciated for his intellect, compassion, toughness, and sincerity.
Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Harry will be deeply missed by many.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Holly Egner, Stone Harbor, NJ and his sister, Susan McFadden, and brother, John Egner (Marianne) of Philadelphia, PA. Also Harry’s children: David Egner (Allison) Luke, Lilly in Dallas, TX; Heidi Evans, (Bob) Charlie, Kate, and Millie in Severna Park, MD; Ted Egner (Kerri) Quinn, Kaia, and Kofi, in Washington, DC; and Harry Egner, Jr, (Chelsea) Elliot in New York, NY. He is preceded in death by his beloved sister, Maureen Brusca.
Services will be held on May 20th, 2024 at St Paul's Church, 9910 3rd Ave, Stone Harbor, NJ 08247 Visitation at 10:00am with Funeral Mass afterwards at 11:00am followed by a reception.

Obituary Preview: Margaret M. Hessing (nee Steinour) of Abington died peacefully on May 3, 2024. She was 85.
Margaret was the loving wife of the late Donald R. Hessing.
Born in Bethayres, PA she was the daughter of the late George and Mabel (Hutchins) Steinour.
Margaret worked for the Lower Moreland School District for many years in food services, starting as a “Lunch Lady” and later became the Food Service Director for the entire district. Following her time there she returned to Computer School and landed a job as a teller with Abington Bank in Glenside. She later worked in Branch Operations at the Abington location, retiring from that position. As a matter of fact, Margaret and her husband retired on the exact same day and eventually moved to Lancaster where they enjoyed the peace and quiet of the country and many visits from their family and friends. Most of all, family was the center of Margaret’s world and she beamed as she watched her family grow, treasuring moments with all of them, especially her children and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
Surviving are her children, Donald R. Jr. (Beth Ann), Sherry Cain (John), and Sharon Schleinkofer (Frank). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Shana (Rob), Donna (Jimmy), Richard (Casey) and Steven and her great-grandchildren, Robbie, Claire, Anthony, Richard “RJ”, Charlotte, Violet, and Logan. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Georgianna Weiss and Bonnie Colvin.

Obituary Preview: Gerald Allen Martin, Jr. passed peacefully on May 1, 2024 at his home in Glenside, PA. He was 58 years old. Gerald was born to Mrs. Martie Martin and the late Rev. Gerald Allen Martin, Sr. in Philadelphia, PA on May 25, 1965. Gerald aka Joel, aka Allen loved the Lord and mankind with all his heart. He also loved writing poetry, reading, sports and food. When Gerald was a boy, he would study the dictionary from cover to cover. He attended a private school called North East Christian School during his formative years. Public School did not challenge his brain so he received a GED at Temple University before attending Geneva College for a few years. He took the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Test (ASVAB test) for the US Navy and received 90%. The Proctor administering the test accused him of cheating. He was asked to come back. When he retook the test, they carried it in handcuffed to the Proctor’s wrist. He was seated in the middle of a room while taking the test. The Results of the second test were 95%.
Gerald was known for his sense of humor, love of mankind and food. He was always willing to give helping hand to those in need. Gerald was very neighborly greeting everyone walking by with a warm how are you. He tried to make sure everyone was happy; this brought him so much joy.
He leaves to cherish his Legacy: Mrs. Martie Martin (Mother), Gerome Martin (Brother), James (Jim Jim) Lee, Lewis Stone (2 Godbrothers), a son, Gerald 3rd, 2 Granddaughters, Tionne, Gionnie (San Antonio, TX), a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, family and friends. Daily, he would kiss two fingers and hold them up to God blessing the content of that day.

Surviving are his children, Anna Jones, Kaitlin Myers, and Elizabeth Jones ans his siblings, Dr. Judith Malick and Edmund Jones.
In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Walter M. and Thomas C. Jones and his sister, Christie Jones Salem.

Mary C. Craven of Lower Gwynedd died peacefully on April 20, 2024. She was 101.
Mary was the daughter of the late Eugene and Margaret (McCarthy) Craven.
Mary lived a good long life in her family home in Ardsley, PA before moving to Gwynedd Estates in Ambler, PA. She worked at Merck Sharp & Dohme and travelled the world with her close friend Miriam Burns. Irene and Watson Comly were her close Quaker friends. A devout Irish Catholic, she attended Queen of Peace Church. Mary was humble and God loving and took care of her mother Margaret her entire life. She also worked for MSD from 1951 – 1980.
Her wry wit was intact right up to the end of her life. In her Philadelphian accent she would say “What’s the sense of talking? No one needs advice.” However, she was wise and well worth listening to, reserving judgment of others in her self-effacing manner. Mary was born on December 7th, Pearl Harbor Day, but she never told her California family her birthday since it was the same day as her nephew’s, Patrick James, and she didn’t want to detract from his big day. Her older brother, James Patrick, served in the Marines and was one of the first to die in Iwo Jima.
Surviving are her nieces, nephews and grand-nieces & nephews, Amy Craven, Jessie C. Gore, Sarah O’Rullian, Sophie O’Rullian, Mary O’Rullian, Patrick Craven, Seth Craven, and Luke Cypress.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Queen of Peace Church, 820 N. Hills Ave., Ardsley, PA 19038. Her interment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her mother and father.

George was the loving husband of Marlyn (nee Sandler) Popper and they were married for over 40 years. He was preceded in death by his son Eddie Popper and his grandson, Michael White Jr. and his brothers, Joseph & Edwin Popper.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Jack and Catherin (nee Lafferty) Popper.
George led a long career as a talented builder having built and remodeled countless homes in Glenside and the surrounding areas. He even built his own home over 50 years ago and was proud to keep it in tiptop shape all these years. George was also part owner of Jerzees in Glenside and The Mill Pub in Northeast Philadelphia. He was a quick witted and intelligent entrepreneur and was passionate about his work.
Surviving are his children, John Popper (Roxanne) Joan Goudy (Late William), Mike White (Gwen),Chris White (Michelle Brown), George Michael Popper (Rose) and Erik Wahus (Late Julie Morris); his grandchildren, Ryan Myers (Mike), Kelly Hwang (James) and Billiejo Goudy, John Popper Jr. , Christopher Popper, Katie & Michael White, Noelle, George, and Luke Popper, Erik J. Wahus, and Angela Ellis; nine great-grandchildren; his dear friend and business partner, Patrick Deacon and Jerzee’s general manager, Barry Elvidge.

Born in Meadowbrook Maria was the loving daughter of Thomas G. Gliba and Judith L. (Devers) Gliba (Fiancé, Arthur Szabo) , the sister of the late Michael T. Gliba and granddaughter of Charlotte Devers (Late John).
Maria attended Cheltenham High School and later earned her certificate in Cosmetology from Jean Madeline Aveda Institute.
Passionate about her work and often referred to as having “golden hands” she took great pride in styling the hair of her countless clients and her family and friends. She loved trips to the beach, fishing and was an excellent cook. Most of all she treasured any time she could spend with her family, friends and all those who loved her so dearly.
Maria lit up every room she entered and would do anything for you. She will be missed.
In addition to her parents, Maria is survived by her fiance and soulmate, Shawn Norton; her aunts and uncles, Donna Arose (Bruce), Dorothy Carr (Tom), Marianne Buehler (John), Patricia Burly (Brian), Charlotte Riddell (Charlie), Jennifer Devers Cahill (Dave), and Adrienne Gliba-Barrett (John); her brother Joseph; 12 cousins and many extended family and friends.

Daniel L. Moyer - June 27, 1946 - April 04, 2024

Daniel “Dan” L. Moyer passed away on April 4, 2024, after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear palsy.
He was married to the love of his life, Susan (McCann) for over 52 years. Dan grew up in the West Oak Lane neighborhood of Philadelphia and graduated from St. Raymond of Penafort Catholic School (1960), Bishop McDevitt High School (1964), and LaSalle University (1972).
Professionally he worked in retail management for Sears, Homeplace, and Denny Electric. He spent countless years involved with athletics at Bishop McDevitt including being “the Voice of the Lancers” announcing football and basketball games, as well as a spectator cheering for his children.
Dan was called to serve others. At first, he spent time in the Francisican seminary hoping to serve the least fortunate amongst us. His path diverted from religious life, but he continued to give to the community by volunteering with various organizations including the St. Vincent De Paul Society, St. Francis Inn, the Common Good, GYAC, and as a lector and Eucharistic Minister at St.Luke’s. More importantly, he encouraged many to join him in service to others.
In his free time, Dan enjoyed gardening, playing golf, listening to classical music, reading, watching sports, and traveling. He could often be found holding court and telling stories with his many friends and acquaintances at the Glenside Pub or on his deck. He was welcoming, friendly and was genuinely happy to see a friend. He had the ability to make you feel that you were the most important person in the room.
In addition to Susan, he leaves behind his children Kate (Jerod), Dan (Andrea), Kevin (Allison) and Matt (Liz) and ten grandchildren: Iona, Matty, Emily, Daniel, Charlie, Megan, Lucy, Joseph, Willie, and Annie. As well as his brother David and sister Diane Zenner (Chris), multiple brothers and sisters in law, and many beloved nieces, nephews, friends and chosen family. Dan is preceded in death by his parents Daniel L. Moyer, II and Dolores (Spears) Moyer.
A celebration of life will be held on April 17, 2024 at St. Luke the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Glenside, PA. Visitation will start at 8:30 am and Mass will be held at 11:00. Interment will be private.

Elaine Cline, née Dachuck, of Elkins Park, PA died peacefully at Abington Hospital surrounded by her loving family on the evening of Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024. She was 73 years old. She had been a resident of Elkins Park since late 2014. Prior to moving to Pennsylvania, she lived in New York for 64 years.
Elaine was born on April 29, 1950, the youngest child of Albert and Anne Dachuck (née Boris). She attended St. Basil’s Academy in Jenkintown, PA before pursuing a degree in education at St. John’s University in Queens, NY.
She was married to John Holmes Cline III of Bayside, NY in 1972. She had a brief career as an elementary school teacher before pursuing her life’s work as a wife, mother, and homemaker. This was a vocation she pursued enthusiastically and lovingly, and extended to the sheer joy she experienced in her grandchildren.
While living in New York, she was an active member of her community, frequently volunteering her time at her children’s schools, delivering food with Meals On Wheels, serving as a Girl Scout leader and Den mother, and at events at Church of Our Savior Lutheran in Manhasset, NY.
During her time in Elkins Park, she continued to pursue various interests including her voracious reading habit. She explored new hobbies, such as taking a mosaics class and keeping active with Silver Sneakers, and made many new friends.
Elaine survived brain cancer in 2002 and shortly thereafter had surgery to clamp an aneurysm.
Elaine is survived by her husband John, her sister Dianne Samios, her brother Rt. Rev. Conrad Dachuck, her four children Peter (Adrienne), Daniel (Sarah), Erica (Frank), and David (Marina), and eight grandchildren (Peter Jr., Catarina, Sebastian, Natalia, Amelia, Vivienne, Hannah, and Alexander). She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Maryanne.

Obituary Preview: Lillian Hennessy, 87, of Milmont Park, PA passed away on March 22, 2024 in Dresher, PA. Lillian was born in Philadelphia, PA, on December 8, 1936, to the late Mitchell Fury and Florence Fury (nee Allen).
Lillian is survived by her daughter Judy (Dave), and was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, her sister Judy Fury and son Mitchell.
After attending Bartram High School and having a brief career, Lillian became a stay at home mom. She was very involved in being a homeroom mother, and participating in all of the fun activities at Our Lady of Peace parish in Milmont Park such as: field trips, the Christmas bazaar, and the Calendar Party. She was still helping by making crafts and volunteering at the Christmas bazaar until well into her 80’s. She also volunteered with her husband, Harry, at Taylor Hospital. Lillian loved seeing all of the kids that would come to her door for Halloween, and loved babies in general. She would dress her dog up for Halloween as well. She was a fan of the Phillies, but loved the Whiz Kids especially Richie Ashburn. She was also a Dallas Cowboys fan, a fact that she loved to tell everyone. She loved the music of Barry Manilow and George Strait, and was able to see them in concert. She also enjoyed visiting the Jersey Shore for vacation, and attending the Philadelphia Flower Show.

Obituary Preview: Alyssa Marie Corrigan, 37, of Glenside, died peacefully at home on March 12, 2024 after a courageous 5 year battle with brain cancer.
Alyssa was born on November 15, 1986, in Abington, PA. She was a 2005 graduate of Upper Dublin High School. Alyssa then pursued her love of dance at Montclair State University, where she graduated with a degree in Dance Education in 2009.
Alyssa devoted her time to teaching and spreading her passion for dance to students across states spanning from Pennsylvania to North Carolina. She was the dance teacher at Perth Amboy Middle School and Farmville Middle School. Alyssa taught at numerous dance studios including Stars Studio of Dance, Center Stage, and Gateway to the Arts, while also performing on stage with various community dance programs, including Le Fusion Dance Academy. She touched the hearts and lives of hundreds of students, not only as their dance teacher, but also as a mentor and role model. Dancing was her love; teaching dance was her passion.
Alyssa married the love of her life, Ryan Corrigan in 2014. The two shared an unwavering love and were together for 19 beautiful years. Their commitment to one another was unmatched and their love for one another was so evident and pure. Alyssa and Ryan dreamt of growing their family together from a young age and were blessed with two sons, Declan and Grant Corrigan. The boys completed Alyssa. She was a devoted mother, who would have done anything for more time with them. They were her light during her darkest days and the center of her world. Her life and legacy will live on within their hearts forever.
In addition to Alyssa’s husband and children, she was the daughter of Carol Schermerhorn and Donald (Eleanor) Stroman, the sister of Laura (Mark) Tuscano, the granddaughter of Richard Schermerhorn, the daughter-in-law of Thomas and Dawn Corrigan, the sister-in-law of Ashlei Corrigan and Eric (Erika) Corrigan, the aunt of Alex, Francesca, Ben, Madelyn, and baby Tuscano #2 (on the way) and the dog mom of Tyson. Alyssa was adored by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Louise Schermerhorn, Kathryn Stroman, George Stroman, and Ruth Gates and her aunts and uncle, Diane Bates, Robert Stroman, and Paulette Eddinger.
Alyssa will especially be remembered for her infectious smile, contagious laugh, vibrant personality, and courageous fight. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
