Michael Dewayne Williams - August 22, 1960 - April 15, 2024

Departed: 04/15/2024 (Glen Rose)
Obituary Preview: Michael Dewayne Williams was born August 22, 1960 in Ft. Hood, Texas. He was received into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 15, 2024. Mike is preceded in death by his mother Janette Wright Williams and his father Samual Benjamin Williams as well his older brother Sam Williams.
Mike is survived by his sons Gage Murski Williams,Hudson Wright Williams and Blake Lee Taylor.
Mike was known for his outgoing personality, and he never met a stranger. Mike was a hard worker and would volunteer for any project where he thought he could be of service. Mike woke up before the roosters and worked until exhaustion on most days as a younger man. When Mike wasn’t physically working, he was “working that phone”. Mike liked keeping in touch with his kids (and all of their friends!) old buddies and work contacts, and of course the many doctors who had performed countless surgical procedures on him.
Mike was so very proud of his sons and was quick with an endearing story about them. Mike loved Glen Rose, PRCA Rodeo, the ranches where he worked over the last twenty plus years, and cooking up a giant pot of taco soup or barbecuing a brisket for the neighbors. We will miss Mike’s endless energy and his generosity. May God rest Mike’s soul and give him eternal comfort and peace. Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make you paths straight

Edward "Paul" Comer - January 04, 1946 - March 22, 2024

Departed: 03/22/2024 (Glen Rose)
Obituary Preview: Edward Paul Comer “Paul”, 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Glen Rose on March 22, 2024. Born on Jan. 4, 1946, in Gatesville, he was the son of Edward and Beulah Morgan Comer.
Paul was raised on the family farm in Purmela, Texas. He attended Purmela school through eighth grade and went on to graduate from Evant ISD in 1964. He was active in a multitude of sports and school activities. Following high school, Paul attended Brantley-Draughon Business College and Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth, Texas. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Texas Wesleyan and embarked on his long-standing career in banking.
Paul began his career working as a bank examiner for the Federal Reserve Bank in Dallas. In 1972, he moved to Evant, Texas, and joined the First National Bank of Evant serving as Vice-President and director. He was ultimately elevated to President and CEO, making him one of the youngest bank presidents in the area. During his thirty plus years of banking, he also served as a Chairman of District 4 of the Texas Bankers Association. He became a true community leader who was known for his dedication to his clients and support of the local community. His legacy of community banking lived on through his son Charles, who credits his father for being the inspiration to his own banking career.
Beyond his professional achievements, Paul was deeply committed to his family and community. Marrying Linda Kay Elam in 1965, he became a father to his sons, Charles Edward Comer, in 1970, and Chris Elam Comer in 1974. He was a proud father who was actively involved in his sons’ school activities and was the announcer at the Evant High School football games.
Life for Paul was filled with a variety of hobbies that kept him moving and in the outdoors. He and his sons received their PADI open water certification in 1984 with Paul ultimately obtaining an advanced open water certification. Scuba diving and water skiing were enjoyed as a family. Paul earned his private pilot license as well as instrument ratings in his beloved Cessna, N736EC. He enjoyed the comradery of the Hamilton Airport and served on the board of the Hamilton Pilots Association. Paul often flew his family to ski trips and shared his love for aviation with his sons. In addition to flying, Paul took pleasure in farming, ranching, fishing, and hunting. Hunting for many years with the Evant Hunting Club, Paul created many fond, comical memories from their annual mule deer hunts in South Texas and gathered quite the collection of deer mounts. Paul played the game of golf through most of his adult life and into retirement and can proudly say he has made a Hole in One!
After marrying his current wife, Wanda Comer, they settled down in Glen Rose, Texas. Up on the hill of their home, you would often find a multitude of dogs, cats, and even some critters that were all taken care of and became extensions of their family. If they were not fishing or sitting on their porch, you could find him at Squaw Valley Golf course.
He took on the proud name and role of “Bunch” when his first grandchild, Charles Edward Comer Jr. “Charlie,” was born in 1998 to Charles and Krissy Comer. Trips to Glen Rose to visit Bunch were a fun and cherished time for all his grandchildren: Charlie, Caroline, and Cort, who all remember their Bunch in his recliner chair sipping Sweet Iced Tea out of a large, 64-ounce cup and guiding them on the trails out behind his house in Glen Rose. His love for adventure and the outdoors are lived on through his grandchildren.
Paul is survived in death by his loving wife of fourteen years, Wanda; stepson Brandon Bishop and wife Traci; son Charles Comer and wife Krissy; grandchildren Charlie, Caroline, Cortland Comer, Trevor Kenton and Hunter Aldridge; sisters Joyce Bundrant and Patsy Garza; and former spouse Linda Kay Comer. Frank was devoted to his family as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Haveman, son, David, daughter-in-law, Marla, and daughter, Judi Stallings. He will also be deeply missed by grandchildren, Avery, Marissa, Adam and Erin Stallings, Jeffrey and Kelsie Stallings, great-granddaughters, Emma and Peyton Stallings, and many nieces and nephews.
Frank attended Beaumont High School. He graduated Cum Laude from the University of Texas at Austin in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science in physical education. He went on to obtain a Master’s degree in School Administration from the University of North Texas and continued there working on his doctorate.
Frank loved sports and played league baseball and basketball as a young man. He began his coaching career while still in high school by starting a youth flag football team at a Beaumont elementary school. A die-hard Longhorn fan, you seldom saw him without a UT ball cap.
Frank’s love of sports was equal to his passion for education. His first position was in 1953 as a coach at Academy High School in Academy, Texas followed by Stark High School in Orange, Texas. He went on to coach at Burleson High School, later becoming a counselor and then Assistant Superintendent. In 1971, he became the Superintendent of Schools in Malakoff, Texas. In 1974, he moved to De Soto where he was Superintendent of Schools for De Soto ISD until 1990. Whether in the classroom, on the court, in the board room or the hallways, Frank always led with kindness and positivity. He believed in hiring the best people and letting them do their job. In video created for Frank’s retirement celebration, an elementary student was interviewed who said, “I’ll miss Mr. Moates. He’s my friend.” In 1988, Frank D. Moates Elementary School opened with 31 classes to serve 500 students in the Glen Heights section of De Soto ISD.
Frank’s greatest loves were his family and his faith. He met his wife, Cynthia, while teaching at Stark High School. Married for 68 years, theirs was a match made in heaven. He was devoted to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, loving nothing more than having the house full of love and laughter. Frank was also a man of great faith, eager to share with everyone he met. He often carried scripture cards in his truck and pocket, leaving them on the table at a restaurant, a chair at the infusion center or handing them to a cashier at the grocery store. Frank and Cynthia participated in numerous mission trip, sharing their faith with those in Russia, Africa, Poland, Ecuador, and Brazil. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Glen Rose, where he worshipped and served as a deacon.
