Dudley "DJ" Jake Wiyninger - October 04, 1932 - March 02, 2024

Departed: 03/02/2024 (Duncan)
Obituary Preview: Dudley Jake "D.J." Wiyninger was born October 4, 1932 in County Line, Oklahoma to Jacob and Erma Allene (Tussey) Wiyninger. He passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024, in Duncan. He was 91.Public viewing will be on March 4-5, 2024 between 8:00AM and 7:00PM at Whitt Funeral Home. D.J. graduated from Central High with the Class of 1950. He was inducted to the US Army in February 1953. He actively served as a Sergeant until he was honorably discharged in 1955. He completed his 8-year stint by serving in the Oklahoma Army Reserves. He was a skilled woodcarver turning ordinary tree branches and twigs into wooden spoons, bird figurines, and picture frames. He handcarved furniture ranging from small boxes to an entire bedroom suite. He enjoyed gardening (especially watermelon - the coyotes were a big fan of his watermelons as well), bird watching for two road runners he nicknamed Geraldine and Fast Eddie and playing his left-handed guitar in the style of Bob Wills. As a young man, D.J. was invited to play the guitar live on air on KRHD radio station. He was an avid reader of westerns, crime stories and poetry. Because he was a very social person, a charmer some might say, he especially loved to play bingo, card games, and dominoes with his friends at the Chisholm Trail Assisted Living residence where he spent the last three years of life. He counted the staff at Chisholm Trail among his friends and appreciated the care, compassion, and companionship he found during his time with them. D.J. is survived by two daughters, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Jean Gilbert. He was preceded in death by one great granddaughter, his parents, and 2 sisters - Ruth Byers and Mary Vaughn.Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
