Everyone teased her that she just liked the retirement parties! On January 17, 1991 Barbara married an awesome and loving helpmate Thomas Langeslag. The epitaph they have picked for their headstone at Victor Cemetery sums up their 30+ years together: We Laughed, We Loved, We Lived, Because of Jesus – We still Live. This is evident to everyone who knew her and can be seen and felt throughout their home. Mom loved and knew how to have fun! She was active and dedicated to her Lord and church family throughout her life. She was a blessing and encouragement to so many. We have witnessed this from so many of you who have reached out to us during this difficult time. Thank you and God bless you. Services will be held on Monday April 25, 2022 at 3:00 at Community Baptist Church in Stevensville, MT with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall. Dorothy Mae Ashby - April 18, 1937 - April 13, 2022

Departed: 04/13/2022 (Stevensville)
Obituary Preview: Missoula - Story of Dorothy Mae Ashby – So long Momma, Grandma, friend… Dorothy Mae Ashby, born Dorothy Mae Weaver, came into this world in Tulsa, Oklahoma on April 18, 1937. The only child to Dorothy and Foster (Shorty) Weaver, they moved around a fair amount following Shorty’s work assignments with the railroad, finally settling in Lakewood and eventually Thorton, Colorado. Following graduation from Lakewood high school in 1955, Dorothy worked as a clerk at Wolworths, where she met the first love of her life, George Albert Browne. Dorothy and George married in 1957 and gave birth to the first of their seven children in 1958. In the same roving lifestyle as with her own parents, Dorothy and George navigated between Washington, California, Colorado, eventually settling in Montana in 1967. 135 South Fifth West became their home. Situated near Hellgate High School it became home to many neighborhood children who all called Dorothy, Ma, or Momma Dorothy. With endless energy, Dorothy worked fulltime providing for her growing family, both inside and outside the home. She was always there for her tribe and was known to stay up all night, after a full day’s work, to sew for her children’s special occasions. In her many positions at the Heidelhaus; in the kitchen, waiting tables or as floor manager, she was loved by all for her energy, work ethics, generosity and sense of humor. It was also at the Heidelhaus that she acquired her second son, Jeff Lane, who immediately became a full member of the Browne tribe. At the age of 38, Dorothy became a widow with her crew of seven young children, when George passed away in July of 1975. It was in 1977 that Dorothy met the second love of her life Fred Ashby. Dorothy with her crew of seven, and Fred with his two daughters Ramona and Sam, quickly blended to create an impressive family of eleven. They married two years later and after a short period living in Fred’s home on Cleveland, they built their dream home in Stevensville. Life in Stevensville as Dorothy Ashby also marked a new chapter in her life. One of less work outside the home, a life of homemaking, gardening, crafting, building new friendships and living new adventures as a couple. They were travellers, golfers, snowbirders, skiers, snowmobilers, and painters. They combined the knowledge of their individual skills of woodworking, sewing and quilting to create numerous gifts for their children and grandchildren. Dorothy’s life took an unexpected turn with the passing of Fred in 1999. With all the energy that characterized Dorothy, she went on to travel to Arizona for the winter, all over Montanta, Wyoming and France to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She lived independently until 2015 when she joined ranks with Karen and her brood of 8. Dorothy continued to sew, quilt, bead, enjoy her children, 26 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren and to travel the world-over until her health demanded her to slow down. From this moment, Dorothy’s family came to her grandma’s cottage nestled in the pine trees near Evaro outside of Missoula. Dorothy will be remembered for her endless energy, her easy laughter, as an incredible momma, as the coolest grandma and the meanest cribbage player there ever was. Dorothy was preceded in death by: Dorothy and Foster Weaver, George Albert Browne, Fred Raymond Ashby, Patrick Allen Browne and Josh Roger Rice. Dorothy is survived by: Ramona (Bart) Elkins, Terri Daniels, Annette (Daniel) Lamy Chappuis, Rita (Doug) Pierce, Lori (Lee) Meacham, Karen (Tom) Taberna, Sam (Chuck) Hawkins, Pat Browne, Mug (Tim) Fox, Jeff (Connie) Lane, and her plethora of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Donna Tilson Capps - June 21, 1952 - April 08, 2022

Departed: 04/08/2022 (Stevensville)
Obituary Preview: Stevensville- Donna Tilson Capps, 69, of Stevensville passed away unexpectedly on April 8, 2022. She was born June 21, 1952 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Harold (Hal) and Maida Tilson. Donna was raised in the New York/New Jersey area where she lived with her father and attended grade school. She moved to Wisconsin to attend Marquette University to receive the first of many degrees to follow later. She was known for her motorcycle and made lifelong friends in both places that she was still in contact with. She returned to NJ where she became very involved in the horse racing community. It was also in NJ where she completed more degrees and had her daughter Shannon in 1981. Many including Shannon’s father told Donna she had created her match in Shannon and now she had to deal with it. Having two short statured mouthy firecrackers under the same roof wasn’t always peaceful, but the love was always there. Donna was very involved in all Shannon’s activities and even as a single mother always found a way. To this day, many of Shannon’s friends still refer to Donna as their other mother and have hours of hilarious stories to tell. In the late 80’s Donna moved to Georgia where she began her career in Medical Management in various medical offices. It was also in Georgia where she had her son Travis in 1991. Travis was her easy child and the light of her life. Donna was always so proud of all his achievements in sports and school. She was often seen wearing pins with Travis’s sports photos and later in life wore her UGA gear with so much pride. Eventually Donna met the love of her life, Ron and the two of them went on a vacation to Montana. They loved everything about Montana and returned from that trip both married and property owners there. They continued to live in Georgia for the next 2 years or so while they had their home built in Montana and Shannon finished high school. Ron, Donna and Travis finally moved for good to Stevensville Montana in 2001 where Ron and Donna have lived happily ever since. Montana quickly became their home. They were welcomed into a community of wonderful people who became their second family. Ron and Donna established an electrical company, became volunteer firefighters and EMTs before retiring. Donna was always a huge fan of the beach and specifically Mexico, where her father had moved to after he retired. Throughout her life she always tried to take family vacations to Mexico at least once per year. In retirement, she was able to go even more often. She and Ron also purchased motorhomes and began travelling mostly in the Pacific Northwest, but made a few multi-month motorhome trips to various parts of the country along with their dogs Cookie and Bling. While Shannon and Travis often joked back and forth about who the favorite child was between them, the true favorite child was unquestionably Bling. She also loved to spoil her “granddogs” Millie and Chloe and her “grandcat” Pucca. Ron and Donna were truly living their best life in retirement and the rest of the family was so happy for them. Donna is survived by her husband Ron of Montana, her daughter Shannon and her husband Jeff in Georgia, son Travis in New York, stepsons Patrick and Brian in Georgia and her grandchildren that she adored: Daniel, Haley, Lily, Ryan and Tyler…and her second family she made and loved dearly in Montana. A memorial service will be held April 16, 2022 at 2:00pm at the Stevensville Rural Fire District with a reception to follow. The family suggests memorials be made to the Bitterroot Humane Society.

Roy Joseph "Chubb" Kuntz - March 10, 1936 - March 08, 2022

Departed: 03/08/2022 (Stevensville)
Obituary Preview: Florence - Tuesday March 8th, a precious soul was given wings to soar high and handsome, reuniting with ancestors gone before. No pain, no stress in his journey today, only his earthly family is feeling the absence of a man we were honored to know. The fullness of his company was a greater blessing to many than the hollowness we experience now. Remember all the gifts he shared and never let them go. Roy Joseph Kuntz was born March 10th, 1936, in Moiese, Montana to Christian A Kuntz and Anna Gress Kuntz. He joined brothers Chris and Frank on the family homestead. Two years later, baby brother Joe would complete the circle of love. Growing up during the depression and later during the war, life was never easy, and the family worked hard for all they had. One thing he determined early on was he would never work hoeing sugar beets again. He kept that promise! When he felt his education was sufficient, he struck out on his own to discover what lie over the mountain and out of the valley. After a short time in the US Air Force, he married Melvina Orton and sought work in the Butte packing plant, sawmills and eventually the apple orchards of Riverside Washington. Upon the death of his first wife, he eventually made his way back to Montana with three young children in tow. Spending time on the railroad for several years, he wanted more room to expand his talents and opened a repair shop and wrecker service in St. Ignatius. This was his nugget and his service to many in the community will long be remembered. Eventually, he decided that transporting mobile homes would be a good thing and purchased a toter so he could expand. This seemed to be his true calling, something that he excelled at for well over 20+ years. He married Michelle Cote in 1989 and together they expanded the business to include another truck and a couple lease drivers. Leasing authority with Morgan Drive Away and operating a terminal, opened his scope of operations to all 50 states. Traveling through other states turned them into adventures. After he unhooked from the load, we toured the countryside in his 2-ton Kenworth Town Car, taking in everything possible on the return journey home. He loved his trucks and was very proud of the work he engaged in. His work served generations of customers and he considered everyone a best friend. Traveling with a fifth wheel during the off season brought more pleasure in the desert and the sun. He loved Death Valley and celebrated his 69th birthday there, coupled with the rare occurrence of catching the desert in full bloom. Well done my man! Roy was preceded in death by his father and mother, Christian A Kuntz and Anna Gress Kuntz, first wife Melvina Orton Kuntz, brother Franklin Kuntz, Joseph Kuntz, special uncle and aunt Fred and Helen Kuntz, many other aunts, uncles and cousins too numerous to mention, special friend Kenny Smith. His oldest brother Chris Kuntz followed him in passing on March 14th with Roy lifting him up and showing him the way. He is survived by his wife, Michelle Kuntz of the family home, daughter Laura of Ronan, sons Stanley R Kuntz, Tim (Jean) Kuntz of Lolo and Linda Serrano of Ronan, April Martinez, Sacramento and Heather Kuntz of Oregon as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and grandchildren. Services will be held April 2nd at Bread and Roses Event Center, 5529 US 93 South, Florence, Montana at 1:00 PM. Graveside service will follow for family and close friends at Victor Cemetery, Victor, Montana. Please bring your best Roy stories to share with guests as there are many that people would certainly enjoy. If you wish to make a donation in Roy’s honor, Florence Fire Department would be appreciated for their fast response and efficient service. Whitesitt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and will host comments and full obituary on their site.

Ken Gebert - January 06, 1936 - February 06, 2022

Departed: 02/06/2022 (Stevensville)
Obituary Preview: Florence  -  On February 6, 2022, Ken Gebert quietly passed away in his Montana home after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was 86 years of age but forever young in spirit. Those closest to him, that will be turning sadness in the loss into the fondness of many treasured memories, are his wife, Barbara Gebert; his four children, Leissa, Bob, Kathy and Cindy; his brother, Warren Gebert; his grandson, Wyatt Williamson and granddaughter, Alexa Williamson and, of course, his 3 year old grandson, Hudson, who fondly called him “Pa.” If you asked a hundred people who Ken Gebert was, they’d all give you a different story. A husband whose love for his wife always shone in his eyes. A father who disciplined; playfully tormented, and above all else, cherished his children. A jokester who took great delight in not getting caught creating “new rules” during family games. A man with a with a keen sense of creativity as a problem solver and inventor of solutions; some of them practical and some were just plain entertaining. A business owner who worked tirelessly and took great pride in being a self made man. A dedicated fitness buff; long before it became mainstream. A man who could likely be in the Guinness Book of Records for most watched John Wayne movies and episodes of Gun Smoke. Ken was born in Chicago, Illinois to his parents, Lawrence and Dorothy. His stories of the early days in Chicago were entertaining - to say the least! They moved to northern Wisconsin when he was in the last years of high school and it is there where he met the love of his life, Barbara. It was a romance as can only be imagined in the mid 1950’s complete with poodle skirts and pool halls. They grew into a family of six and enjoyed years of adventure and travel. Ultimately Ken and Barbara’s dream of settling in the beautiful state of Montana became reality. It is Montana where they have made their home for the past 50 years. Ken will be fondly remembered most for the tireless love and devotion to his family. He did not wish for a public memorial or service to be held. In honor of Ken’s life and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease, all donations to Michael J. Fox Foundation For Parkinson’s Research www.michaeljfox.org/donate would be appreciated.

Helen Joan McNinch - June 06, 1929 - January 22, 2022

Departed: 01/22/2022 (Stevensville)
Obituary Preview: Corvallis - Helen Joan (Wenger) McNinch, 92, entered into eternal rest with family by her side on January 22, 2022. Joan was born on June 6, 1929 in Jackson, Montana to John and Jean Wenger. Most of Joan’s childhood was spent in Dillon helping her family manage the Beaverhead County Golf Course. It was during these years that Joan developed a “from dusk till dawn” work ethic that would serve her family throughout her life. Following her graduation from Beaverhead County High School, Joan continued working the family business, eventually enrolling in Montana State Normal College to pursue a degree in education. Her plans to become a teacher were altered when she met a rugged cowboy from Lima in Ted McNinch, whom she married on September 5, 1953, weeks after they began dating. They enjoyed over 60 years together. In 1955, Joan followed Ted to the Bitterroot Valley where they started another family business in Bass Creek Post and Poles, which eventually became Bass Creek Logging. During the next four decades Joan’s work ethic and willingness to do whatever was needed to get the job done earned her the nickname, “The Gofer.” Whether it was stacking poles, feeding cows, cooking hearty meals for the crew, or running parts to jobs sites in timber GPS would not find, Joan was always on the go holding everything and everyone together. Joan’s greatest pride and joy came in the form of her two children, Maggie and Jim, and her six grandchildren. Joan had Maggie and Jim, and eventually her grandkids, working by her side on the ranch, in the post yard, and in the woods. The most joyous occasions for Joan were the family gatherings she hosted celebrating holidays and birthdays, which were filled with endless laughter. She made it a point to know the latest happenings of every family member, and never forgot a birthday or anniversary. As the family matriarch, Joan purposed herself to care for and sustain her family with joy, perspective, and support as they experienced the peaks and valleys of life. Personally, Joan found renewed strength and purpose through her faith, specifically in the form of hymns, scriptures, and poems. Joan is preceded in death by her parents, John and Jean Wenger, brothers John and George, sister Elveretta, and daughter Maggie. She is survived by her son Jim (Kari), her six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Riverside Cemetery at 1:00 P.M. A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at the Triple Sisters Group Site at Lake Como. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.whitesittfuneralhome.com.

Thelma "Sis" Gilbert - June 16, 1928 - January 11, 2022

Departed: 01/11/2022 (Stevensville)
Obituary Preview: Missoula - A life well lived. A true class act. Cheers to you, Gram. Thelma “Sis” Gilbert moved on to her next adventure on January 11th, 2022 due to natural causes. A proud Butte woman, Sis was born in the Mining City on June 16th, 1928 to Russell “Spotty” and Mae Williams. She graduated from Butte High in 1946. Sis met the love of her life, William “Bill” Gilbert on Labor Day weekend at the Dillon Rodeo -- a handsome Marine recently returned home from World War II. As Grandpa Bill claimed, “she knew she had a winner”. They were married on May 8th,1948. They went on to have three children, John, Karen and Gayle. Bill passed away on their 71st wedding anniversary after a lifetime partnership of love, laughs and enduring commitment. Sis was a class act, an equal mix of tenacity and grace. Sis had a deep passion for her grandchildren, sewing, quilting and baking. Each family member can lovingly recount a favorite homemade gift or treat specifically made for them. Sis and Bill were true Montana natives, living in several Montana towns during Bill’s career at the telephone company. She enjoyed working -- landing jobs in these many moves -- from a tire shop in Great Falls, St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, and Bob Wards in Helena. Sis was a devoted neighbor and friend to all that she met. Bill and Sis embodied all the characteristics of The Greatest Generation - hard working, humble and committed to family. They spent the majority of Bill’s 40-year retirement traveling, frequenting the health club in the mornings and spending time with their grandchildren -- a gift that all of their grandchildren cherish. Our family treasure will always be the cabin in Wise River, a symbol of what Bill and Sis left for all generations of family to enjoy. Sis was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Russell Williams, her son John Gilbert and her husband Bill. She is survived by her daughters Karen (Dennis) Staves and Gayle Gilbert (Rob Ferris), numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sis passed the same way she lived her life -- on her terms, with dignity, independence and a glass of wine. A life well lived. A true class act. Cheers to you, Gram.
