Departed: 04/22/2021 (Carthage)
Obituary Preview: Beloved Mother, God Mother, Sister, Daughter, and Friend Ms. Hattie Mae Walker aka “Antie”
On Thursday, April 22, 2021, Ms. Hattie Mae Walker (Antie), loving Mother, God Mother, Sister, Daughter and dear Friend joined the kingdom of the Ancestors at the age of 68, when God told her to “lay your burdens down and rest my child.” She transitioned at her home in Centerline, MI surrounded by family in her final moments on this Earth.
Hattie was born on August 1, 1952 to Ms. Lucindy Walker and the late Mr. Norris Walker Sr. in Sharon, Mississippi. At an early age Hattie accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was baptized. She united with Lee’s Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church under the leadership of  Reverend W.T. Hawthorne. She was the second-born of 10 children and the eldest daughter.  She is considered the sibling matriarch; whose light shined so brightly.
Hattie graduated from Velma Jackson High School, receiving her diploma in Camden, Mississippi on May 25, 1971. After graduating, Hattie relocated to Milwaukee, WI in 1971 joining many African Americans who were a part of the Great Black Migration.
Hattie later relocated to Detroit, Michigan in 1973. She raised two daughters, Ms. Kristal Walker and Ms. Norrisa Walker.  Additionally, she raised an entire village of children and dedicated her life to their nurturing, rearing and upbringing-thus, being “Antie”-a mother and matriarch to many. She was the personification of love, of true commitment, of unconditional support and everlasting compassion. She was the silent force behind the success, growth, maturity and wittiness of the village she mothered. She loved children, and thus, dedicated her life to offering them-the greatest love of all. She gave the best hugs, had the brightest smile, would give you her last dollar, and was the person you wanted to comfort you in times of need and despair.
Hattie’s passions included: cooking, people watching, writing poetry, watching movies (the same ones over and over again), making delicious desserts and traveling to Mississippi every year to see her Beloved Mother and other family members. She loved oldies music, playing games on the computer/phone, and she was the person you wanted as your teammate in a game of spades! She enjoyed talking to her mother, siblings, other relatives and friends on the phone and was loved and known for her quick wit and sense of humor, for her keen advice, and her generous and compassionate spirit.
Hattie leaves to cherish her memories: Two children, Ms. Norrisa Walker and Ms. Kristal Walker of Detroit, Michigan. Her beautiful, loving and dedicated mother, Ms. Lucindy Walker of Sharon, MS. Her siblings, Mr. Jimmie Brown (Ethal) of Milwaukee, WI. Mrs. Zettie Kelly (Tyrone) of Detroit, MI. Mrs. Rosetta Wilson of Canton, MS. Mr. Terry Walker (Betty) of Huntsville, AL. Mrs. Annie Vanburen (Earnest), Mr. Norris Walker Jr. (Mary), Ms. Stacey Walker, Mr. Quantae Walker, and Ms. Sharona Walker all of Sharon, MS.
Her Godchildren: Ms. Nicole Mayo of Michigan. Mr. Oriade (Ori) Harbor of New York. Ms. Lakeisha Harbor and Ms. Imani Jada Allen of Montgomery, AL. Ms. Parthenia Mickens of Michigan. Ms. Ta’Ayreia Walker of Michigan. Mr. Keith Jackson and Mr. Damian Garrett of Mississippi. Hattie leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, in-laws and dear friends, too numerous to list but not forgotten.
Hattie was preceded in death by her father, the late Mr. Norris Walker Sr, her sister, Ms. Thelma Walker, brother, Mr. Robert Walker and Godson, Mr. Shantago Whitehead. Hattie’s favorite color was Blue...let us dance, celebrate, and honor her life-in all of her glory, all of her humility, all of her selflessness, all of her beauty, all of her generosity, all of her compassion, and all of her love-the greatest love of all~
Please keep the Walker in your prayers. **In order to protect all guests and staff we respectfully ask all individuals entering the facilities to wear a face covering at all times.  The face covering should fully cover your nose and mouth  Also, please continue to follow CDC guidelines by standing 6ft apart.**
