Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Edmund C. (late, Darlene) Colbert, Sr. and the late Gladys M. Haverland (late, James T.) Ward.
Scott was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School, earned his BA from SUNY Oneonta and his Juris Doctorate from Western New England University School of Law.
Scott practiced as a self-employed Attorney-At-Law and was a retired Rensselaer County Assistant Conflict Defender. Notably, he proudly served as a law guardian in Rensselaer County Family Court.
He loved motorcycle riding and coffee with great friends, Ardo, Armen and Greg. Most of all he loved his son Rian, wife Samantha, and above all else, playing with his granddaughter Lucie.
Scott was a member of the Rensselaer County Bar Association and had been an elected member of the Lansingburgh School District Board.
Devoted father of Christopher “Rian” (Samantha) Colbert, cherished grandfather and “Poppy” to Lucie Colbert, loving brother to Rhonda (Bob) Hohn, Edmund C. “Butch” (Tammy) Colbert and Cathy (John) Johnson, dear uncle to Kelly Marie Colarusso, as well as Robert and Robin Gelina, Colton, Dalton and Hunter Johnson and Hannah Steinmetz.

Born in Valley Falls, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Eleanor Abatto Frisino.
George was a U.S. Army Veteran.
He was employed with Cibro Petroleum and Gas Supply Resources, both in Albany, NY.
George enjoyed woodworking and small engine repair. He also enjoyed camping with his family and in later years traveling with Joyce. George was an avid Civil War enthusiast. He especially enjoyed the music of the 77th NY Regimental Balladeers, who played Civil War Era music.
Beloved husband of Joyce Hunt Frisino, devoted father of Nicole "Nikki" (Mark) Hankle, and Anthony "Tony" (Heather) Frisino; brother of Eleanor Clum and the late Harry, Leo, Frank, Albert and Rocca Frisino; cherished grandfather of Amber (Derik Thurston) St. Gelais, Bianca (Sean) Lipinski, Alec Hankle and Darrick Hankle; great grandfather of Mia, lvy and Mark, also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 7:00 PM at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., (Corner of 115th Street and Fourth Avenue, Lansingburgh).

Charles J. “Charlie” Tkal, 32, of Schaghticoke, beloved husband for 6 years to Katie L. Milne Tkal, passed away following a heroic 18-month battle with Colon Cancer, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Saratoga Hospital.
Born in Troy, NY, he was the devoted son of Karen Strope (Paul) Cady and Greg (Melissa) Tkal and was a graduate of Hoosic Valley High School in Schahgticoke.
Charlie had been employed as the Manager at Hudson Valley Bee Supply in Kingston where he held a few positions having worked his way up through the ranks over the years.
Charlie loved music, playing the guitar and drums as well as video games, particularly Dungeons & Dragons. He also loved beekeeping, gardening, hiking, being outdoors in general and Viking re-enactments as part of the Norseland group. Charlie was most passionate about his family and friends. He was well known for his jokes and infectious smile that could brighten anyone’s day.
In addition to his beloved wife Katie, parents Karen (Paul) and Greg (Melissa), Charlie is the much adored father of Marley (10), Warren (7) and Samuel (4) Tkal, loving grandson of Charlene (late Howard) Strope, dear brother of Ryan (Caitlin) Cady, Kristen (Chris) Dindio, the late Megan MacLean, Evan and Julia Hatch, cherished son-in-law of George and Holly Milne, and is also survived by his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Commander Richard R. Bartis, U.S. Navy, Retired, 66, of Lithia, FL and formerly of Schaghticoke, peacefully entered into eternal life in the comfort of home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with ALS.
Rick was born in Cohoes, NY. He was predeceased by his loving parents Richard L. and Jane F. Scullen Bartis and a devoted son, Michael J. Bartis. Rick was a graduate of Hoosic Valley High School in Schaghticoke, Springfield College where he earned his Bachelor’s degree and the University of Phoenix where he earned his Master’s Degree.
Rick joined the U.S. Navy in 1980 as a helicopter pilot and retired as Commander in 2005. After retiring from a 25 year naval career, Commander Bartis worked at US Central Command in Tampa, FL, as a private government contractor.
Rick loved sports in general but particularly golf, football and hockey. He also loved physical fitness and living a healthy lifestyle, completing the Honolulu Marathon, twice.
Rick is survived by the love of his life, Lynne Kyer Bartis of Lithia, FL and their children; Heather L. (Jason) Stinson of Niskayuna and Richard M. Bartis of Mechanicville, loving siblings Janet (Richard) Bayly, Nancy Bartis Kyer, Ellen (Michael) Gambee, John (Mary Theresa) Bartis and Margaret “Maggie” McLaughlin, cherished grandchildren Jeffrey, Audrey, Avery, Charlotte, Jackson and Amelia, he is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, December 1, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Transfiguration Parish, 50 Hillveiw Rd. (formerly St. Bonaventure’s Church in Speigletown) Troy, NY 12182 and to his Funeral Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated in Church at 12:00 p.m. by the Rev. George P. Fleming.
Interment will be held at a later date and time at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville with full military honors.

Beloved wife of Donald, devoted mother of Justin (Aime) Speanburgh, Kristofer Speanburgh and Amanda (Michael) Wertman, cherished grandmother of Allison Speanburgh, Mason Speanburgh, Dillon Speanburgh and Bryce Speanburgh, sister of Thomas (Cathy) Dowd and John Dowd, also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was a communicant of St. Augustine’s Church in Lansingburgh.
Devoted and loving mother of Mary Ann (late, John) Rebel, Deborah (late, John) Bell-Grant, Jane (Chris) Danbury, Philip J. Bell, Sr., Michael A. (Missy) Bell and the late Alma Lasky who is survived by her husband Martin, the late Susan M. Bell and the late Allan A. Bell; sister of Anna Bell, Veronica Polaski, Bonnie Hurd and the late John Hurd, Gladys Cropsey, Mary Gannon and Virginia DiOrio; also survived by 15 cherished grandchildren, 18 adored great grandchildren, 2 dear great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Sue had been a Cashier at the Hoosic Valley Shop ‘n Save in Schaghticoke, a Custodian with the Hoosic Valley Central Schools and for 29 years was employed at St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy in their Dietary Department.
Susan took great pride in being a dedicated wife and loving mother, having raised Nyle, Jr. as a single parent after the untimely early passing of her husband in 2005, when Nyle, Jr. was just becoming a young man.
Sue worshipped at Hoosic Valley Community Church in Schaghticoke, previously at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church and was a member of the former Schaghticoke Ladies Auxiliary Police with the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department.
Devoted and loving mother of Nyle J. (Bryonna) Smith, Jr., cherished and proud grandmother of Nyle J. Smith, III, sister of Linda Ruthosky (William) Moon, aunt of Melanie M. Ruthosky, the late Michael J., Ruthosky, Jr. and Steven Ruthosky, also survived by her loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was a Charter and Life Member of the Brunswick Elks #2556, enjoyed boating, skiing, golfing and traveling and was a communicant of Transfiguration Parish (formerly St. Bovanventure’s Church), in Speigletown.
Beloved husband of Susan, devoted father of William Bulmer (Lisa Rocco) and Patrick (Paige A.) Bulmer, brother of Arthur (Kathy) North, brother-in-law of Michael (Wilma) Polhemus, cherished grandfather of Liam (Paige E.), David, Eliza and PJ, also survived by eight nieces and their families.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Transfiguration Parish (Speigletown), 50 Hillview Dr., Troy, NY 12182 followed by his Mass of Christian Burial that morning at 11:00 a.m. in the Church.

Ordained June 1, 1957, Father O’Neill served in several parishes in the Diocese of Albany including Holy Family (St. Patrick’s), Albany, St. Joseph’s (Nativity of the B.V.M), Stuyvesant, St. Joseph’s, Rensselaer, Holy Trinity (St. Patrick’s), Johnstown, Transfiguration Parish (St. Bonaventure’s), Speigletown, St. Joseph’s, Green Island and retired from St. Peter’s, Stillwater.
Father is survived by his sisters Eileen Hallenbeck, and Sharon (William) Jones, sister-in-law Patricia O’Neill and several nieces and nephews down to the 4th generation.
Along with his parents, Father was predeceased by his sister Kathleen and brother-in-law Harrington Conrad, his sister Mary Ann and brother-in-law Raymond Jones, his sister Maureen and brother-in law Bruce Farrinelli, sister Joanne and brother-in-law Phillip Raffiani, and brother Thomas O’Neill.
Father offers love and gratitude to all his loved ones; to Rev. Richard Shaw, and his extended family, parishioners and friends.
Father O’Neill wishes to offer his special thanks to Mary Carney, (who served as his Secretary at St. Bonaventure’s) for being his alter memory and friend.

Catherine was member of YMCA, the Halfmoon Senior Center and faithfully worshipped at Harvest Church in Clifton Park and previously at the First Presbyterian Church of Lansingburgh.
Devoted mother of Rick Adams of East Greenbush, NY, Roberts Adams of Altus, OK, and Mark (Gabriele) of Rome, NY; sister of Elizabeth (Kenneth) Gaylord of Melrose, Richard (Barbara) Brenenstuhl of Melrose, Charles (Gail) Brenenstuhl of Queensbury, George (Mary Lou) Brenenstuhl of West Palm Beach, FL and the late Robert Brenenstuhl and the late Ralph Brenenstuhl; cherished grandmother of Joshua, Carrie, Sean, Stephanie, Brian and the late Christopher Adams; great grandmother of Liam Michael and Charlotte Victoria Wakeman, Alex and Ollie Adams also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Polly was a homemaker. Prior to raising her family, she had been employed at Montgomery Ward’s in Menands. Polly took great pride and joy in volunteering for over 50 years at Samaritan Hospital where she is still remembered by many there for her many years of dedicated service.
Polly was a faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church in Speigletown, a member of Creative Threads, the church’s weekly quilting group. She enjoyed golfing, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Beloved wife of Bob for 73 years, devoted mother of Mark R. (Terri Antonelli) Hayward, Sr. of Sarasota, FL, Robert E. (Roberta) Hayward, Jr. of Ballston Lake and cherished Grandma of Jennifer (Greg) Salamone, Mark R. (Kristine) Hayward, Jr. and Daniel R. George J. Somnitz, age 88, beloved husband of the late Jane A. Somnitz, formerly a resident of over 50 years of Avenue A in Melrose, peacefully entered eternal life surrounded by and in the loving comfort and care of his family in East Greenbush, NY on January 6th, 2023.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late George John and Agnes (Koch) Somnitz. Attended both Cathedral Latin (Cleveland) and Charles F. Brush (Lyndhurst) high schools.
George was the beloved husband of Jane A. (Whittaker) Somnitz, whom he married on August 12, 1957, and celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary a week prior to her passing.
Mr. Somnitz was a U.S. Navy veteran and received his Honorable Discharge, the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Navy Occupation (Europe) Medal for his service from 1953 to 1957. As a Radarman second class (RD2) he served on the USSs Roanoke (CL-145), Bennington (CV-20), Los Angeles (CA-135), Cabot (CVL-28), and Valley Forge (CVS-45).
Mr. Somnitz attended Michigan Tech (1957-1960) in Houghton, MI on the GI Bill and completed his Bachelor’s degree at the top of his class in the Business School in Accounting.
Mr. Somnitz retired in 1989 following a dedicated career as an accountant/internal auditor with General Electric in Richland, WA, San Jose, CA, and GE Silicones in Waterford, NY.
Both George and Jane served as Co-Treasurers for both the Speiglaires and Avant Garde Drum & Bugle Corps. For many years, they were avid fans of the Hoosic Valley Girls & Boys Basketball teams. George was a lifelong Cleveland Indians fan, his passion for which he shared with his family. For 50 years, he was a communicant of Transfiguration Parish in Schaghticoke & Speigletown. A lover of knowledge and history, he was the Avenue A, Melrose Historian.
Devoted father of Robert (Lisa) Somnitz of Eugene, OR, Stephen (Kathrine) Somnitz of Eugene, OR, Kathleen (Dr. Michael) Gallichio of East Greenbush, NY, Jennifer Caim of Saratoga Springs, NY, John Somnitz of Saratoga Springs, NY, and (like a son) Daniel Scott Harrison of Glens Falls, NY. He was beloved brother of William (Sally) Somnitz of Kirtland, OH and brother-in-law of David "John" (Matalie) Whittaker of Mentor, OH. George was the cherished grandfather of Nicholas (Helena) and Geoffrey Somnitz; Nathan, Christopher, Kelsey and Shaw Somnitz; Alexandra Jane and Evelyn Caim; and Ronan Somnitz. Adoring great grandfather of Cecilia and Felicity Jane Somnitz. Survived by several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews. He was recently predeceased by his sister, Sue Marie Somnitz of Lyndhurst, OH.
George’s family would like to thank all the wonderful aides who have assisted with his care over several years, enabling George to continue to live at home (Andrea, Audrey, Dorothy, Merlene, Joneé, Michael, Tracee, and Valerie). A special thank you to George’s Nurse Practitioners, Rhonda and Melanie, from SPHP Home Visiting Providers. Over the past 6 months, SPHP Hospice has been so very supportive.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Transfiguration Parish (formerly St. Bonaventure’s Parish in Speigletown), 50 Hillview Drive, Troy, NY 12182.

Mrs. Caputo was a dedicated homemaker and loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Jo-an was predeceased by her husband Anthony L. Caputo and a nephew, John R. McKnight.
Beloved mother of Jacqueline “Jackie” (Albert) Gregoire, Charlene (John) Fogarty and Tracy (Raymond) Tanner, sister of the late Ray W. McKnight who is survived by his wife Antoinette “Toni” McKnight, also survived by five grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, several nieces and nephews and their families.

Nola was born in Albany and is the beloved daughter of Michele Molea and Ted Marotta, loving, little sister of Neve Marotta, cherished granddaughter of Theodore W. And Judy (Eckert) Marotta, Jr. and of Virginia (Schwarz) and Richard Molea. Nola is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Nola recently completed Fifth Grade in the Cambridge Central School District Elementary School. She loved art, music, animals, dancing, horse riding, swimming, basketball, The Atlanta Braves, Minecraft, pastel rainbows and everything else under the sun. Wolves were her spirit animal and her favorite color was blue. She had an infectious laugh and a dimpled smile that warmed the entire room. She adored her big sister and was always thinking of her. Nola’s family would like to thank everyone in the Cambridge Community and beyond, who supported them during Nola’s journey and continue to do so. We are eternally grateful to all of her buddies who did everything to ensure that she maintained friendships and safe connections, despite being caught up in the pandemic. Deacon Chris loved reading, spending time with his friends and family, vacationing at Hampton Beach, NH, York, ME and Lake Placid, NY and was an avid sports fan. He taught Parish Life Director classes in Burlington, Pre-Cana and Religious Education classes. Deacon Chris was a member of the St. John Vianney Parish Knights of Columbus Council 7525 in South Burlington. Most of all, Deacon Chris loved being dedicated to his ministry. Linda loved her grandchildren! She also loved the ocean, fishing as well as her husband and family. She loved traveling and all of her family have shared the “get lost ride” adventures. She absolutely loved time spent together.

Obituary Preview: Gene T. Barton, Sr., 71, peacefully entered into eternal life on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. He was surrounded by the love and comfort of his wife of 50 years, Diane M. Lanoue Barton and his five children.
Gene was born and raised on his family farm in Buskirk, New York. Five generations of Barton’s have been proud to call the “Bartonville” family farm home. Gene’s legacy of pride in his home will be carried on by his wife, children and grandchildren.
Gene was a graduate of Hoosic Valley Central School. He was a proud American and a U.S. Navy veteran having served from 1971 to 1976. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and his Honorable Discharge. After 27 years with the NYS Office of General Services in Albany he worked as a Refrigeration Supervisor for both Grand Union and Shaw’s Supermarkets Gene was the owner and operator of G&D Commercial Refrigeration, Heating, Electrical and Geothermal Services. Gene built this family owned and operated business from the ground up. He worked nights and weekends until the time he could make his part time business his full-time career. His trade is one that he has taught to both of his sons. He also recently joined his family in acquiring ownership of LaPosta’s Deli & Grocery in Speigletown.
Gene silently gave generously to others, starting with his family. He would give selflessly of his love, time and talents without the need for any recognition. He has been an integral part of his community having served previously as Chief and Fire Commissioner of the Johnsonville Fire Department. He was a communicant of Transfiguration Parish in Schaghticoke and a former member of their Knights of Columbus. He was also an active member of several trade organizations including RSES (Refrigeration Service Engineer Society), Gene was a lifelong learner, earning credits and certifications in various areas of trade throughout the years. He was a man that earned the respect of others because there is “nothing Gene can’t do.” Gene was a firm believer in hard work and his love and devotion to his family was limitless.
Gene and Diane celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on November 20, 2021 with a drive by parade. Family, friends and the community came out to join in this celebration. Over a mile of cars, trucks, tractors, fire trucks, and construction vehicles joined in this milestone event. This show of admiration meant a lot to him. Gene did not realize just how many lives he has touched over the years with his knowledge, selflessness and generosity.
Gene was the son of the late James Barton and Mary Kosowski Barton. He was the beloved husband of Diane, devoted father of Christine Barton, Gene (Missy) Barton, Jr., Daniel (Tracy) Barton, Marie Barton and Elizabeth (Brian Mazzeo) Barton, all of “Bartonville.” He was the cherished “Poppa” of Taylor Barton Carrozza, Alysa Barton, Austin Barton, Daniel Barton, Jr. Emma Barton, Kathryn Mazzeo, James “Jimmy-Boy” Mazzeo, Brian Mazzeo, Jr. and Anthony Mazzeo. Born in Bath, NY, he is the son of Herbert and Hazel “Pat” Husted Bonsor of Bath, New York and was a graduate of Haverling High School, Corning Community College, and Albany Law School.
Mr. Bonsor was employed by COGNIA education accreditation and had a private law practice in Johnsonville; Michael L. Bonsor, Esq., Attorney-at- Law.
He was a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism (a medieval reenactment group) in the Ragnesfolke household, and enjoyed camping and reenactment events with his friends. His additional hobbies and interests included role playing gaming, listening to music, Renaissance Faires, live theater, science fiction in all media (books, comics, TV, and movies), especially the Star Wars franchise. An avid reader himself, Mike also delighted in reading to children, and was well known for his perfect Grover impression when reciting The Monster at the End of This Book by heart.

No calling hours are planned at this time, a private service will be held at a later date, but friends and family are encouraged to share memories, stories, and pictures on social media and support each other through our grieving.

Beloved Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Aunt, Godmother and Friend.
Margaret Mary Reilly, (Peggy) 91, passed into eternal life on October 15th, 2021 at her home in Valley Falls, NY surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of William Edward Reilly, with whom she shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. She was passionate about her family, her strong Catholic faith and her career as an elementary school teacher in Scarsdale, New York.
Margaret was born on February 21, 1930 in Troy, NY to the late Francis Joseph (Frank) O’Connor and Sara (Sally) nee McInerney. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oneonta State Teachers College and a Master of Arts from Teachers College, Columbia University. In 1958, Peggy married William Edward Reilly of Valley Falls, New York. They lived in Albany, NY, and Rumford, RI, eventually settling in Scarsdale, NY where they lived for over 40 years. Peggy was a part of the original faculty of the Heathcote School in Scarsdale where she taught for over 25 years. She was a devout and active parishioner of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Scarsdale, NY, where she also served on the St. Veronica’s Guild.
Peggy was a voracious reader who could often be found nose deep in a novel. She had interests in fashion trends and spent many hours shopping at Lord and Taylor’s or Boscov’s. Politics and sports were favorite pastimes as well. However, educational pursuits were her priority. Peggy advocated for and promoted the Lincoln Center Institute for the Arts in Education at Heathcote School and completed many advanced courses at Scarsdale Teacher’s Institute. Her greatest love however was her husband and her children, whom she loved having close to her.
Margaret is survived by her loving husband William Edward Reilly, five loving children: Anne E. Reilly of Jupiter, Florida (husband Kurt Saari), Sara E. Reilly of Norwalk, Connecticut, William E. Reilly Jr., of Norwalk, Connecticut as well as Lawrence F. Reilly of Sheffield, Massachusetts and Eileen M. Reilly (husband John Ruocco) of Brooklyn, NY; by her brother Francis Joseph (Joe) O’Connor (Doreen) and her sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Potter (Donald John (Don) Jr., and three grandchildren (Devin and Caroline Saari, and Paul Ruocco).
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, October 20th at Transfiguration Parish North, 17 South Main Street, Schaghticoke, NY from 4 to 6 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 21st at Transfiguration Parish North, 17 South Main Street, Schaghticoke, NY followed by Interment at St. John’s Cemetery, Schaghticoke, NY.
Memorial donations in memory of Margaret M. Reilly can be made to the Valley Falls Free Library, and/or Meals on Wheels, Rensselaer County Unified Family Services Department for the Aging.
