Jerry Wayne Bennett - October 30, 1945 - May 16, 2024

Departed: 05/16/2024 (Lawton)
Obituary Preview: Jerry Wayne Bennett, a cherished family man, respected mechanic, passionate car enthusiast, and trucking owner passed away peacefully on May 16, 2024, in his hometown of Lawton, Oklahoma. Born on October 30, 1945, to the late Clarence and Ola Pearl (Adams) Bennett, Jerry's life was a testament to the power of humor, friendship, and dedication.Jerry's journey began in the heart of Lawton, where he grew up alongside his siblings, forging lifelong bonds and memories. He was preceded in death by his siblings Jack, Bobbie, Jimmy, Terry, Tommy, and Don Bennett, but his loving spirit is carried on by his sisters Letha Owens and Kay and her husband John Ray. Jerry's education culminated in the 8th grade, but his real schooling started under the hood of a truck and behind the wheel, where he honed his skills as a mechanic and owner-operator truck driver. In his professional life, Baby Huey was known for his reliability and expertise. His hands were rarely clean, always tinkering, fixing, and improving, but his heart was always pristine. His work was more than a job; it was a calling that allowed him to connect with fellow drivers and enthusiasts, creating a community bound by the roar of engines and the open road.Jerry's love story began with Karen, his devoted wife, with whom he built a life filled with laughter and joy. Together, they raised a family that became Jerry's pride and joy: Jerrie Lynn Jones, Brian and Rhonda Rose, Shelley and Daniel Linthicum, Ty and Buanita Rose, Cody and Anniece Rose, Monica Rose, and Shawna Rose. His legacy continued to grow with his 12 grandchildren: Jessica Burnette and her husband Brandon, Andie Kay Williams, J.W. Williams, Daphne and Mason Williams, Alli and Wyatt Johnson, Brianna Rose, Madison Scheuren and Dalicia, Clayton Scheuren, Hannah Scheuren, Danielle Linthicum, and Dylan and Jennifer McDonald. His seven great-grandchildren, Asher, Addison, Zaxton Scheuren, Phoebe Williams, Gabby Williams, and August and Amelia McDonald, will remember him as the funny and loving "Papa Jerry."Huey's interests were as vibrant and dynamic as his personality. He could often be found at the racetrack, his eyes alight with the thrill of competition, or in his garage, meticulously restoring classic cars to their former glory. His love for golf was only matched by his passion for classic car cruising, a hobby that allowed him to share his love for vintage beauty with the world. But above all, Jerry cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, imparting wisdom, sharing stories, and creating memories that would last a lifetime.Described by those who knew him as funny, friendly, and passionate, Jerry lived by the words of the famous author, Mark Twain: "The secret of getting ahead is getting started." Jerry's approach to life was to dive in with both hands, a philosophy that served him well in both his personal and professional endeavors.Jerry's laughter, his warm presence, and his unwavering passion for life will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His was a life well-lived, full of the simple pleasures that make life worth living. As we bid farewell to Jerry Wayne Bennett, we celebrate a life that exemplified the joy of genuine connection, the thrill of a well-tuned engine, and the enduring legacy of love and family.Visitation will be held on Monday, May 20, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service.Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Arena Cowboy Church, 7323 NW Wolf Road Lawton, OK 73507Burial will follow at Cache Cemetery Cache, OK.
