Obituary Preview: Linda Ann Griffis, 61, of Anderson, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at her residence following a sudden illness. She was born on March 21, 1962, in Mishawaka, Indiana, the daughter of William H and Janet L (Houghton) Griffis.
Linda dedicated many years of her life to her career at Sallie Mae, where she worked as a loan processor before retiring. She cherished her winters in Florida, reveling in the warmth of the sun. Linda found solace and community in her faith by attending services at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Anderson.
She is survived by her brothers, William (Kerrie) Griffis and Kenneth (Sharon) Griffis, her devoted companion, Frankie St. Phillip, and numerous nieces and nephews. Linda also leaves behind cherished friends, including Susan Goudy, Peggy King, and Charlotte Vallier.
Preceded in death by her parents, Linda's passing leaves a void in the lives of those who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Life service to honor her memory is planned for Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. in Glad Tidings of Assembly God Church, 2604 N Scatterfield Rd., Anderson, IN 46012 with a gathering of friends and family from 3:00 p,m, to 4:00 p.m.

Paul was born on July 31, 1963, in Anderson, Indiana, to Larry D. and Linda L. Semon. He graduated from Alexandria-Monroe High School in the Class of 1982. On April 11, 1982, he married his sweetheart, Amy Reismiller Semon. Paul was a devoted member of the Alexandria Nazarene Church.
As a skilled carpenter, Paul owned and operated Semon & Sons Construction Co. He had a deep passion for nature, enjoying hunting and fishing whenever possible. Above all, Paul cherished spending time with his family and was a loving husband and father.
Paul is survived by his wife, Amy; children Uriah (Lilly) Semon, Jarrett Semon, and Mara (Dougie Willett) Semon; brothers James (Marti) Semon and Larry (Helen) Semon; sister Holly (Scott) Griggs; granddaughter Layne Semon; and a granddaughter on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry D. and Linda L. Semon, and a sister, Ann Marie Fields.

Obituary Preview: Linda L. Semon 81, of Alexandria, departed from this world on February 1, 2024, the same day that marked her 81st birthday. She was born on February 1, 1943, to Betty A. Whetsel, and throughout her lifetime, Linda left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew her.
Most of her adult life was spent as a housewife. She enjoyed crafts, crochet, and sewing, showcasing her creativity and passion for handmade treasures. Linda was not only a homemaker but an eccentric collector who found importance and beauty in the simplest of things.
She is survived by her sons, Paul C. (Amy) Semon, James W. (Marletta), Semon and Larry E. (Helen) Semon, as well as her sister Sandra Blakley. Also, by her ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
While her departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved her, Linda is now reunited with her mother, Betty A. Whetsel, and her daughter, Ann Marrie (Semon) Fields, who preceded her in death.
There will be a gathering of friends and family to share memories at Whetsel Funeral Service Park Ave Chapel, located at 1503 S Park Ave, Alexandria, IN on Tuesday, February 6th from 5-7 pm. A private family graveside service will be held at Vinson Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. As we say our final goodbyes, let us remember Linda for the love she shared, the memories she created, and the beauty she found in the world around her.

Her thirst for knowledge led her to Ivy Tech College, where she pursued higher education, laying the foundation for a purposeful life. Anna was joined in marriage to Glen Hancock on April 17th, 1999.
Anna's spiritual journey was deeply woven into the fabric of her existence, remaining a devoted member of the Christian Church. Bethany Christian Church in Anderson served as her spiritual haven, where her faith thrived, and she found a community that embraced her unwavering devotion.
A beacon of selflessness, Anna found immense fulfillment in serving others through mission trips that took her to diverse places. From Cookston Hills Children's Home in Oklahoma to the impoverished communities of Eagle Pass, Texas, the vibrant landscapes of Mexico, and the bustling streets of New York City, Anna's heart overflowed with love and compassion, leaving an indelible mark on communities far and wide.
Anna's love for adventure extended beyond charitable endeavors to her cherished vacations, with cruises holding a special place in her heart. These journeys became moments of joy and relaxation, especially when shared with her beloved husband, Glen. Their bond was a testament to love and companionship, creating a tapestry of beautiful memories enduring in the hearts of those who knew them.
A passionate advocate for animal well-being, Anna's profound love for dogs, especially her "Lovey Dovey," brought immeasurable joy into her life. The warmth and loyalty of her canine companion mirrored the qualities that endeared Anna to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Anna leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness carried forward by her surviving family—Her devoted husband, Glen Hancock, father Ronald Raines, mother Sue (Frye) Raines,. She is also remembered by brothers Tim (Beth) Raines and Nick (Vanessa) Raines, along with several nieces and nephews and grandmother Crystal Frye. While grieving the loss of Anna, the family is comforted by the knowledge that she is reunited with her maternal grandfather, Merle Frye, Jr., and paternal grandparents, Charlie and Vella Raines. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at Bethany Christian Church, 1920 N Rangeline Rd., Anderson, Tuesday January 23rd from 11 am to 1 pm, with services at 1 pm. Interment of her Cremains will take place at a later date in the IOOF Cemetery, Alexandria,

Obituary Preview: Judith Marie “Judy” Lane, who peacefully departed this world on December 24, 2023, at the age of 82, surrounded by her devoted family at the Alexandria Care Center. Her passing follows a brave battle against an extended illness, demonstrating the strength and resilience that characterized her remarkable life.
Born on June 25, 1941, in Anderson, Indiana, Judy was the cherished daughter of Richard G. and Pearl (Crum) Scott. On January 26, 1971, she united in marriage with Donald Lane, and together they shared a profound love until his passing on July 23, 1995. Judy's faith was a cornerstone of her life, as evidenced by her membership in the Alexandria First Baptist Church.
A pillar of the Alexandria community, Judy dedicated herself to the service of others. Initially a self-employed hairdresser, she later found her true calling as a compassionate home healthcare practitioner, offering solace and care to numerous elderly residents in Alexandria.
Judy's love extended beyond her professional life into the heart of her family. A devoted mother and grandmother, she reveled in the joy of bringing her family together. Her unbreakable bonds with her brother, Larry, and sister Donna, illuminated the rich tapestry of her life.
Left to carry on her legacy are her loving children, Scott Lane and Dawnetta (Charles) Moore, and her dear sister, Donna Welborn. Judy's spirit lives on through her grandchildren, Ashley Lane, Gracelyn Gullion, Derek Carr-Lane, Emmalyn Gullion, Brynlyn Gullion, Donnie Lane, and Shaylyn Gullion, as well as her great-grandchildren, Gabe, Skyler, Bo, and Eli. Numerous nieces and nephews also mourn her passing.
She joins her parents, husband Donald Lane, brother Larry Scott, and sister-in-law Karen Scott in eternal rest. A celebration of Judy’s life is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Whetsel Funeral Service, Park Ave. Chapel, with Rev. Doug Doan officiating. A visitation will precede the service from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Cremation will follow, and a private family interment of her cremains will take place later in Park View Cemetery.

Services for Judith will be held on December 28, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Park Ave. Chapel, 1503 S Park Ave., Alexandria. A burial will follow the service in the K-P & IOOF Cemetery, Frankton. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Linda was born in Alexandria, Indiana on April 13, 1961 and was the daughter of Harold and Donna Allen, who preceded her in death. She grew up in Alexandria and then moved to Clearwater, FL for a time before returning to the Anderson area.
Linda is survived by a daughter, Lori Sparks Neel (Tommy) and special friends, Wendy and Kenny Peterson.
In honoring Linda's request there will be no services held.

Joe was born in Steubenville, OH on October 20, 1935, and was the son of Jenny Wilson and Joseph A. Shanley. He was married to the love of his life, Barbara, for 63 years.
He had been a member of the Alexandria Elks Lodge #478, the Anderson Indiana Rotary Club, and the Madison County Chamber of Commerce. He had a long and fulfilling career in Broadcasting (Radio and Television) that began in 1954 through his retirement in 2003.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Joann (Drew) Bussen. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, his nieces and nephew, Nancy Garcia, Diana (Phil) Reismiller, Bud Richardson and a cousin, Carol (Mark) Teaff-Oberman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Barbara, a son, Joseph R. Shanley, and a daughter Lisa Buck.
The burial of Joe’s cremains will take place in the Fort Steuben Burial Estates, Steubenville, OH at a later date.

Beyond his military service, Patrick was a captivating actor, leaving an indelible mark on the stage. His talent illuminated the Mainstage Theater, Muncie Civic Theater, and Chicago’s Hale’s Theater. Patrick's passion for the arts was a testament to his vibrant spirit and creativity.
A devoted member of the Alexandria First Baptist Church, Patrick actively participated in the music ministry and was a proud member of the VFW. His commitment to community and country reflected his deep sense of duty and love for those around him.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved mother, Lucinda Cramer, his brothers Matthew Brian (Amanda) Cramer and Michael (Amanda Reed) Cramer, and his sisters Michelle Cramer, Jaime Cramer, and Laura Cramer. Patrick is also survived by several nieces and nephews who will carry his legacy forward.
A memorial service to celebrate Patrick's life will be held on January 15, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Alexandria First Baptist Church, 2107 S. Park Ave., Alexandria, IN 46001. Reverend Michael Deutsch will officiate the service, followed by burial at IOOF Cemetery, Alexandria, with military honors bestowed by the United States Army and Elwood VFW Post 5872. Visitation will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Born on February 1, 1942, in Anderson, IN, Jerry was the beloved son of Roscoe L. and Mildred (McCarty) Bassett. A proud graduate of Alexandria High School, Class of 1960, he embarked on a journey of love and commitment when he married Georgia (Harris) Bassett on September 8, 1961.
Jerry dedicated many years of hard work to General Motors, Anderson, and retired in June of 1996. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Alexandria, where his faith played a significant role in his life. He was a supporter of Purdue Basketball.
Described as an all-round good person, Jerry was known for his willingness to help others. His family brought him immense joy, and as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, spending time with them, especially his grandchildren, held a special place in his heart.
Left to carry on his legacy of love are his wife of 62 years, Georgia, and his sons, Greg (Christina) Bassett, Chris (Alexis) Bassett, and Tim (Rebecca) Bassett. Jerry is also survived by 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Bassett.
A service to remember Jerry will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Alexandria, located at 2107 S Park Ave., Alexandria, with Rev. Aaron exemplified love and devotion as a husband and father, relishing moments coaching his children's baseball games and attending their activities. An enthusiastic hunter and fisherman, he found solace in nature, embodying a deep love for his country.
Left to hold onto his memory are his beloved wife, Jourdan, and their children, Cartter and Adalyn. Aaron's spirit lives on through his brothers Nick, Andy, Tanner, and sister McKenzie. His parents, Misty Mallette and Larry Goodman, also mourn the loss.

Obituary Preview: Donald R. “Don” Lemon, 87 of rural Anderson died Monday, Nov. 12, 2023, at his residence after an extended illness while in the company of his loving family.
Don was born in Alexandria, Indiana on Dec. 4, 1935, and was the son of Glen R and Mamie (Langford) Lemon. On June 22, 1956, married Shirley R. (Lugenbeal) Lemon who survives. He served on the Alexandria Police Department for 20 years and retired from the City of Alexandria after serving as the Wastewater Manager for 10 years. Don served in the Indiana National Guard obtaining the rank of Staff Seargent
Don was an avid fisherman. However, his greatest joy in life was his family. His children and grandchildren were golden to him, and he always loved spending time with them all.
Those left to carry on his legacy of love is his wife, Shirley R. Lemon; his children, Marilyn (Perry) Garmon, Carolyn (Jeff) Smith, Bradley (Patty) Lemon and Brian (Nicole) Lemon. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Bethany Lemon, Haley Harris, Robert Lemon and William Lemon, his great-grandchildren, Cayden, Asher and Mason. Other survivors include his sister, Linda Lawson and sister-in-law, Betty Lemon and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Donald Michael Lemon; brothers, Robert Lemon, Gene Lemon; sister, Eileen Scott.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Friday, Nov. 17, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Park Ave. Chapel, 1503 S Park Ave., Alexandria with Bud Whetsel as celebrant. A burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery, Alexandria with Military Rites by the Indiana National Guard and Elwood VFW Post 5782. Friends are invited to a gathering of family and friends on Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Obituary Preview: Martha Sue “Marty” Gordon, 76 died Friday, Oct 6, 2023, after a sudden illness at Community Hospital, Anderson.
She was born Aug. 1, 1947, in Niles, MI to Louise and Dee Dee Garmon who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother Dwight and sister-in-law Lee, as well as by her in-laws, Martha and Robert Gordon.
Martha is survived by her husband, James Gordon, daughters, Lara (Paul) Latshaw, Jennifer Jaqua and Molly (Robert) Schlenkerman, as well as her honorary son, Shane (Jenny) Bish. She is also survived by her sister Mary Lou (Fred) Bohl, her niece, Rachalle Waldron and nephew, Chrisopher Waldron.
Martha earned her Bachelor’s and Masters Degree from Ball State University where she studied English and Education. She started and ended her career as an English teacher at the Alexandria-Monroe High School after teaching for 36 years retiring in 2005. She loved being an educator. She was a favorite teacher among many of her students and truly loved teaching English, Creative Writing and Literature.
Martha was well known around Alexandria for her beautiful flowers garden she maintained for many years at her home and was proud of her lush flower beds. She was an avid reader and accomplished piano player, having spent accompanying the congregations in song at several local churches. She also enjoyed part-time sales jobs at Kohls Department Store and at J.C. Penny’s in Anderson for several years.
In 2009, she moved to St. Petersburg, FL to be closer to her children but returned to Alexandria in 2017.
She will be remembered as an amazing mother, an incredible friend and beloved wife who will truly be missed.
The family has no public services planned at this time. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

Obituary Preview: Freeman Beverly, a resilient and patriotic soul, passed away peacefully at the age of 73 in his Anderson, Indiana residence, following a courageous battle with heart disease.
Born in Vincennes, Indiana, he was the beloved son of Ezra and Lula Beverly.
Freeman's life was marked by both joy and sorrow. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Linda, the mother of his children, and his sons, Joey and Jon. However, he found love again, spending 14 wonderful years with his devoted wife, Jackie. Also survived by his cherished daughter, Jonel (Warren) Groscost, and three adoring grandchildren, Ray, Mathew, and Callie. Sister-in-law, Iris Stanley, and Brother-in-law, Bud Needler.
Freeman's strong bond with his brothers, Larry (Sharon) Beverly and Bobbie Storey, brought him immense happiness. He held a special place in his heart for his cousin, Mack Smith (Ann Martinez). Freeman's extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews also held a special place in his heart.
Freeman Served his country in Vietnam in 1969 and 1970 in the Army with the 101st Airbourne Division.
Freeman was an active member of the American Legion Post 127, where he found camaraderie among his fellow veterans. Family meant the world to Ruth, and she found immense joy in spending time with her loved ones. She is survived by her children, Drake Harris, Ercia (Jacob) Fluhr, and Alexis Harris; her siblings, Tom (Kathy) Harrison, Robert Harrison, and Mary (Wayne) Everling; her cherished grandson, Kian Fluhr, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy and Janet, her husband, Tom, her brother, Joe Harris, her sister, Carol Snead, and sister-in-law, Lori Harris.

His was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John Kennedy, Jr. and Billy C. Kennedy, two sisters, Brinda Kennedy and Phyllis “Tutti” Kennedy, a nephew, Joseph D Kennedy and a brother-in-law, Gerald Anderson.

Mark was born in Jonesboro, AR and was the son of Freman and Beverly Suzon (Hart) Rhodes. After his high school graduation, he graduated from the Nashville Automotive Diesel College, earning an associate degree. He married Chandi (Scott) Rhodes on June 22, 2007.
He was employed by Chrysler Corporation-Kokomo as a machinery repair technician.
Mark was an avid fisherman. He always enjoyed fishing at Dale Hollow Lake and Mississinewa Reservoir. He loved watching his two daughters playing softball, watching NASCAR and working on old cars. Mark was a loving and caring husband and Dad who always loved spending time with his family.
Left to carry on his legacy of love is his wife Chandi, his daughters, Marlaina Rhodes, Gabbey Rhodes and Jacey Rhodes; his brothers, Rodney (Lisa) Rhodes and Tracey (Amanda) Rhodes. Also surviving are two special friends, Dave Smith and Mark Combs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Freman and Suzon Rhodes.
Private family services will be later at the convenience of the family.

Jeff had been employed as store manager for several area Harvest Market stores, including the Alexandria store.
He was an avid fan of the Indiana Hoosiers and the Indianapolis Colts and all things football. Whenever he saw a big storm coming, he would get excited and load up the family and chase the storms. Love being outdoors and had a blog on Facebook for a while called the “On the Front Porch with Jeff”. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Left to continue his legacy of love is his wife, Melodie (Cox) Jones, his daughters, Heather (T.J.) Morrow, Hollie (Rodney Baker) Jones and Hali (Ashley) Jones; a brother, Billy Joe Jones; Alesia (Greg Porter) Hinton and Emily Neal. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and several uncles, aunts and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023, at the Whetsel Funeral Service, Park Ave. Chapel, Alexandria from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted for Jeff on Sept. 12, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in Park View Cemetery, Alexandria.

Jim was born in Alexandria June 22, 1945 and was the son of George A. Barton Sr. and Lillian R. (Howerton) Barton. Jim served his country as a member of the National Guard. Jim also retired from Guide Lamp in Anderson after 35 years of service.
Jim’s passion was working on cars and he was an excellent mechanic. He enjoyed watching racing, live and on TV and taking scenic drives. He could easily be persuaded into playing a card game or shooting pool in his man cave with his buddies.
Jim was also a member of the NRA and the Eagles Lodge in Alexandria and was a member of the Church of St. Mary.
Survivors include one son James Barton II, one daughter Jennifer (Jerry) Hunt. Two granddaughters, Jeri (Derik) Rutan, and Heidi Powers. Four brothers, George Barton Jr., John (Judy) Barton, Harry Barton, Patrick (Connie) Barton. Three sisters Shirly (C.T.) Ridenour, Marian Richardson, and Rita Copeland. Several nieces and nephews, Special friends; former wife Anita Barton, Tom (Shannon) Adams, Brian Daffron, Bopper, Tim, Ice, and all the gang.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Lillian Barton. His first wife, Loretta (Hosier) Barton. A grandson Billy W. Galbreath and a sister Mary Ann Barton.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday August 17th at the Church of St. Mary, located at 820 W Madison St. Alexandria, IN 46001 with Fr. Tom Metzger as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F. cemetery with military rites.. Friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday August 16th from 6pm to 8 pm at Whetsel Funeral Service, Park Ave. Chapel, 1503 S Park Ave, Alexanderia .and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. at the church.

Bob was born in Knox Indiana on March 9th, 1943 and was the son of Robert B. Fletcher Sr. and Sarah (Palman) Fletcher. He married Julianne (Cowen) Fletcher on November 27th, 1965. Bob served his country as a member of the US Army Reserves.
Bob retired from Guide Lamp as a security officer, but his “fun” job was a crane operator at Phillips Scrap Yard.
He was a member of the Our Blessed Savior Lutheran Church in Alexandria, where he liked to volunteer and cut wood with the men from the church. Bob loved going to church and worshiping with his church family.
Bob was a former member of the Alexandria Eagles and a big fan of IU Basketball. He had many hobbies he enjoyed such as reading (especially Louis Lamour books), working the crossword puzzles, sudoku in the morning paper, as well as watching old westerns. And he loved spending time with his family.
Left to cherish Bob’s memory are his daughters Stephanie A. Fletcher-Salazar and Susan Fletcher. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Audrey, and Adrienne Salazar and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, brothers, Morris Fletcher, John Fletcher, sisters Marjorie Fosler, Barbara Blessing, Nancy Fletcher, and special friend Ada Cross.
A service to celebrate Bob’s faith and life will be Tuesday, August 1st, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Our Blessed Savior Lutheran Church located at 309 W. Washington St., Alexandria, IN. with Rev. Kal Rissman officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Our Blessed Savior Lutheran church from 12:00pm to 2:00pm prior to the service. Interment will follow in IOOF Cemetery with full military rites.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Blessed Savior Lutheran Church, 309 W Washington St., Alexandria, IN 46001 or in care of the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Tom Ryan.
A celebration of life service is planned for Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Alexandria, 2107 S Park Ave., Alexandria, IN 46001. family members will be sharing memories of Annmarie.
