Obituary Preview: Lynn Mervin Geyer, 69, of rural Humboldt, Nebraska was born on May 5, 1953, in Humboldt, Nebraska. His parents, Mervin Robert and Wilma Helen (Bohling) Geyer raised their family in the country north of Humboldt where Lynn was the oldest of three siblings. He was the ornery, protective big brother of Jana and Beth and always shared fond memories of his sisters, parents and grandparents. Lynn attended Bratton Union Consolidated School until it closed and then graduated from Southeast Consolidated High School in Stella. During his school age years, Lynn helped with milking at the family farm and helped surrounding farmers. After graduation, he had periods of time living in Lincoln and Sidney, Nebraska. Lynn had many friends that would always call to see what the nights plan was. He shared memories of cruising around, camping, hiking and hunting with his buddies.
Seeing the need for help on the farm, Lynn moved back and later made his home in his grandparent’s house just south of where he grew up. He would go on to raise beans, hay, corn, cattle and pigs along with everything in between. Lynn had two children, Lucas and Lacee, and was a good dad. He would play like a kid with them, teach them about work ethic and plant their faith at an early age. He loved to teach them about the outdoors, from hunting, fishing and general respect for nature.
Lynn loved the mountains and talked often about all the places he got to see during his life. He absolutely loved planning a vacation and would always have a written schedule of what was going to take place on the trip. The Crown Victoria would be cleaned and packed full for the family adventures.
Lynn went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 31, 2022. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, father Mervin Geyer and many aunts and uncles.
Lynn is survived by his loving children: Lucas Geyer of Lincoln, NE; Lacee Noa and her husband Adam of rural Nemaha, NE; mother Wilma Geyer of Humboldt, NE; sisters: Jana Anderson and fiancé Dave Wheeler of Stella, NE; Beth Griffith and her husband Deon of Topeka, KS; uncles: Rich Plager of rural Humboldt, NE and Ike Alberts of Auburn, NE; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Memorial Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at St. James (Long Branch) Lutheran Church in rural Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastors Eric Spruth-Janssen and Roger Hoffman officiating. A livestream of services will be available on the Wherry Mortuary/Monument Facebook page for those not able to attend services. Inurnment will follow services at St. James (Long Branch) Cemetery.

Linda Sue Hunzeker - April 16, 1947 - May 21, 2022

Obituary Preview: Linda Sue (Iliff) Hunzeker, 75, of rural Table Rock, NE was born on April 16, 1947, in Humboldt, NE to Donald and Helen (Rexroth) Iliff. She was raised with her family in Dawson, NE where she attended Grand Avenue country school. Linda graduated from Dawson-Verdon High School with the class of 1965.
On March 25, 1966, Linda was united in marriage to Ronald Hunzeker at Dr. Heim’s house in Humboldt, NE. To this union four children, Rick, Vicky, Angie and Mike were born.
The couple raised their family on a farm near Steinauer, NE and then rural Table Rock, NE. Linda worked for the Table Rock Public Schools as a custodian and eventually became the head cook at HTRS Public Schools until she retired in May 2012. She loved to cook and bake for her family and was known for her fried chicken, pie, and kolaches. Linda was quite artistic and decorated cakes for her kids and more recently loved to take painting classes.
Linda passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at the Bryan LGH Medical Center West in Lincoln, NE having reached the earthly age of seventy-five years, one month, and five days. She was preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law Jake and Maxine Hunzeker.
Linda is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Ron Hunzeker of Table Rock, NE; children: Rick Hunzeker and wife LuAnn of Table Rock, NE; Vicky McNealy and husband Dave of Humboldt, NE; Angie Shupp and husband Ben of Humboldt, NE; Mike Hunzeker and wife Amy of Table Rock, NE; grandchildren: Craig Schmit and wife Ali of Humboldt, NE; Jake McNealy of Lincoln, NE; Casey McNealy of Lincoln, NE; Dylan Hunzeker of rural Humboldt, NE; Jack Hunzeker of Table Rock, NE; Reed and Chloe Shupp of Humboldt, NE; Cole and Cooper Hunzeker of Table Rock, NE; great-grandchildren: Haley and Taya Schmit of Humboldt, NE; a brother Bill Iliff and wife Linda of Monticello, IL; sisters-in-law: Joyce Farrington and husband Terry of Akeley, MN; Carol Rexroth and husband Larry of Humboldt, NE; Shirley Dolsky and husband John of rural Humboldt, NE ; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Alan DeJonge - November 11, 1957 - May 19, 2022

Obituary Preview: Alan Eugene DeJonge, 64, of rural Johnson, Nebraska was born on November 11, 1957, in Humboldt, Nebraska to Ommo and Marilyn (Bucher) DeJonge, the youngest of three sons. He was baptized on December 8, 1957, at Faith Lutheran Church in Humboldt and later confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church on March 26, 1972. Alan was raised on the family farm northeast of Humboldt where he attended Bratton Union Consolidated School and later graduated from Southeast Consolidated High School with the Bicentennial class of 1976. While in high school, he excelled in wrestling, football and track.
On October 29, 1983, Alan was united in marriage to Joyce Bohling at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Johnson. He and Joyce later transferred their membership to St. James (Long Branch) Lutheran Church in rural Humboldt in 1987. Alan began his career farming with his father before working for the Farmers Co-op in Auburn. He then worked for the Nemaha County Roads Department for 25 years where he drove a rock truck. From an early age, Alan had a love and passion for airplanes which even included flying his own ultralight plane. He loved tinkering in his shop, playing cards and “joker”, and going to his grandkids, nieces and nephews’ events.
Alan passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at his home in rural Johnson, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of sixty-four years, six months and eight days. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers David and Leland DeJonge, sister-in-law Deana DeJonge, along with many other loved ones, family and friends.
Alan is survived by his loving wife Joyce of rural Johnson, NE; son Brandon DeJonge and wife Valerie of Juniata, NE; grandchildren: Riley and Isabel DeJonge of Juniata, NE; God Daughter Dacey Boudle of Omaha, NE; brothers-in-law: Norman Bohling and wife Arlene of rural Elk Creek, NE; Lonnie Bohling and wife Carol of North Bend, NE; sisters-in-law: Vera Mae Lyman of Lincoln, NE; Susan Bohling of Auburn, NE; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Minnie Louise Binder - May 28, 1930 - May 03, 2022

Obituary Preview: Minnie Louise (Weiz) was born May 28, 1930 in Pawnee City to Daniel Robert and Louise Wilhemina (Rinne) Parks. She was the youngest of seven children living on a farm in Violet, Nebraska. Minnie enjoyed early life in the country spending time with her German shepherd, Handy and pony, Ruby. They were close friends since her brothers and sisters were much older. Minnie attended three different rural schools in grades 1-8. She and Ruby often drove cattle to the pasture on the way to school. When she was eight years old, the family moved to a farm south of Pawnee City into a larger house with a cistern pump indoors and Delco electricity. Her father’s Aunt Rose lived with them. Both her Aunt Rose and mother had hearing loss, so at an early age Minnie learned to value communication. She had the joy of babysitting and spending time with many nieces and nephews, and later great nieces and nephews.
The family attended Salem United Church of Christ each week where Minnie was confirmed in 1949 and committed herself to the Lord. Her confirmation song, “What a Friend we Have in Jesus” and verses Matthew 6:33 & 7:7, were always special to Minnie. Christmas time was also a precious memory with programs and decorated trees.
After graduating from Pawnee High School, at age 17, Minnie attend Normal School at Peru State College and began teaching. She taught for eight years in country school and continued teaching children of all ages in Sunday School, Bible School and 4-H, as well as adults in women's group, and Bible Study.
At Salem Church on November 13, 1954 her uncles Revs. Alfred Rinne and Al Brueggmann married Minnie to Willard Dale Binder. The couple made their home in Table Rock, where they lived for more than 65 years in two homes which they built together. They raised seven children.
Minnie was interested in people and endeared herself to all. Her home was always open and she joyfully fed and housed friends and strangers at a moment’s notice. Minnie's main focus was serving the Lord in her family, church and community. Interests included learning, gardening, reading, teaching and writing poetry. Cooperation and discipline in love were her shibboleth.
Highlights of her life included travels to see missions at work in Mexico, the Philippines and Guam, an anniversary trip to the Holy Land, a cruise to Alaska and many excursions to visit family.
Minnie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Willard, 2 sisters: Elsie Borcher and husband Clarence; Lola Hoffman and husband Marvin; four brothers: LaVern and wife Luella; Frederick and wife Eunice; Melvin and wife Alodyne; and Leland and wife Mary; and son-in-law Tony Taylor.
Family that will miss her include: son Jonathan and wife Karen, grandchildren Mathew and Nicholas and wife Megan, great grandson Declan, daughter Rebecca and husband Neil DuBois, daughter Martha and husband Eldon Lessen, granddaughters Raelyn, Ruth and Grace, sons Peter, Charles, daughter Sarah Taylor and son Samuel along with many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2022 at the United Methodist Church in Table Rock, Nebraska with Pastors Dorothy Smith and Howard Blecha officiating. A link to the live stream is now available on Minnie's tribute wall.
Minnie donated her body to the Nebraska Anatomical Board so there will be no viewing.
Visitation with family present will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2022 at the United Methodist Church in Table Rock, Nebraska.

John William Usher - August 19, 1927 - April 24, 2022

Obituary Preview: John William “Bill” Usher, 94, of Humboldt, Nebraska was born to John Emerson and Etta Martha (Rhoades) Usher on August 19, 1927 in Falls City, Nebraska. He was raised on the family farm near Humboldt where he graduated from Bratton Union Consolidated High School. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 6, 1946 and served his country receiving the World War II Victory Medal. On May 21, 1949, Bill was united in marriage to Betty Marts in Lincoln, Nebraska. To this union three children, Michael, Thomas, and Virginia were born. The couple began their married life farming south of Humboldt before Bill started driving truck for the O.A. Cooper Company. In 1966, Bill became a self-employed carpenter as Betty began her career as a postal clerk at the Humboldt Post Office.
In 1948, Bill joined the Odd Fellows Lodge #34 in Humboldt and has served the lodge in many positions locally and nationally. He served the lodge as noble grand many times, Grand Master from 1991-1992 and was Nebraska Grand Treasurer for 20 years. Bill also served on the board of the Colonial Acres Nursing Home for 20 years and was a member of the United Methodist Church and Harvey-Mann Legion Post #269.
Bill passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt, Nebraska having reached the age of ninety-four years, eight months, and five days. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Betty.
Bill is survived by his loving children: Michael Usher and wife Vicki of Highland, IL; Thomas Usher and wife Pam of Grand Island, NE; daughter Virginia Fosket and husband Jim of Grand Island, NE; 7 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; 1 step-great-great grandchild; his sister Betty Blecha of Humboldt, NE; brother Bob Usher and wife Lea of San Antonio, TX; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2022, at the United Methodist Church in Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Dorothy Smith officiating. A funeral luncheon for Bill will be held prior to services at the church from 11:00 a.m.-noon with family present.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m.- 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at the Wherry Mortuary, 207 N. Nemaha Street in Humboldt, Nebraska.
Interment will immediately follow services at the Humboldt Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Harvey-Mann Legion Post #269 and the Nebraska Army Funeral Honor Guard.

Lorelei May (Aman) Hart - April 20, 1941 - April 23, 2022

Obituary Preview: Lorelei May (Aman) Hart, 81, of Burchard passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at her home with her family by her side. She was born April 20, 1941 in Hastings, Nebraska to Robert Dee and Vervie May (Millard) Aman. She and her siblings grew up in Ayr, Nebraska. Lorelei attended elementary School in Ayr and high School in Roseland, Nebraska. On her senior class sneak trip to the Ozarks, she met her future husband, Gene, who was also with his senior class on sneak trip.
On November 6, 1960, Lorelei and Gene were united in marriage. They made their home in Topeka, KS where Gene worked as an apprentice for the Atchison-Topeka-Santa Fe Railroad and police officer. Lorelei was a homemaker, and in 1961, they welcomed their first child, Natalie May, followed in 1964 by their only son, Gene Patrick “Pat” Hart II, and a third child, Marie Ellen in 1965.
In 1966, they moved their little family to DeWitt, NE to be closer to their extended families. In 1970, Heather Joy completed their growing family. Lorelei stayed at home with the children until they were all in school. She was exceptionally friendly and a good fit for opportunities offered in the field of human resources. She worked at BSDC, Beatrice, American Charter Co., Beatrice, American Tool Companies, DeWitt and Madonna Therapy in Beatrice.
Lorelei was an avid crafter and provided flower arrangements, covered photo albums, and centerpieces for many special occasions. She is remembered by her children and grandchildren as one who could ‘sew up an outfit’ overnight and was a remarkable seamstress who created prom dresses, wedding dresses, special occasion outfits and matching pajamas for many Christmases. Her business, SweetHart Ceramics, was a wonderful showcase of her passion for arts and crafts, and her thoughtfulness for others was evident as she gifted many pieces to friends and family over the years. Lorelei’s homemade bread, cinnamon rolls and French toast are high on the list of favorite foods that she made for the family. If you left the table hungry, it was your own doing.
She was an active member of the Altar Society, and served on many committees at every parish she was a member of, including her home parish of Sacred Heart of Burchard, Nebraska. She and her husband taught CCD for many years at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilber. Her faith has always been the most important part of her life. Lorelei was a wonderful example for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. From 2004 to 2006, she served as the President of the Lincoln Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, an organization of 22,000 women in the Dioceses, an experience she was especially proud of. In retirement, Lorelei and Gene made their home in Burchard, NE. She enjoyed growing flowers, gardening, attending the events of her grandchildren and making personalized greeting cards.
Lorelei is survived by her husband Gene Hart, Burchard NE, daughters Natalie (Mike) Sisco, Burchard NE, Marie (Charles) Pelton, Eagle River, AK and Heather (Duane) Johnsen, Sutherland, NE, grandchildren and great-grandchildren Amanda (Jeramiah) Gleim, Max, Deacon, and Gordon, Lincoln NE, Maggie Sisco (Nick Daro), Pawnee City NE, Jerrod (Laura) Sisco, Layla and Owen, Burchard NE, Susan (Nathan) Peoples, Burchard NE, Lacy France, McPherson KS, Jake (Sara) Lowery, Chase, Noah, and Lily, McPherson KS, Ciarra Stephens, St. Louis, MO, Kyleigh Pelton, Mallory Pelton, Grant Pelton, Eagle River, AK, Harmon, Brock and Vivienne Johnsen, Sutherland NE, sister Debra (Wayne) Kort, Coaldale, CO, brother Ben Aman, Hastings, NE, sisters and brothers in law, Barbara Aman, Edmond, OK, Rose Moulden, Pawnee City NE, Larry and Eleanor Hart, Burchard NE and Lela and Charles Sayward, Lincoln NE and numerous nieces, nephews and family.

LaWayne Steven Mach - June 26, 1955 - April 13, 2022

Obituary Preview: LaWayne Steven Mach was born on June 26, 1955 to Otto and Alma (Stastny) Mach in Pawnee City, Nebraska. He passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.
LaWayne attended Kennedy rural school during his elementary years and graduated from Pawnee City High School in 1973. He continued his education at Iowa State University. He operated a grain and dairy farm located between Pawnee City and Dubois with his parents. LaWayne was a dedicated steward of the land, always working to improve the farms. He was an active member of the Pawnee City Presbyterian Church holding various positions, including Sunday School teacher. He was a loyal member of Pawnee Masonic Lodge #23 and enjoyed the activities and offices.
LaWayne held a private pilot license and enjoyed a number of other hobbies including gardening, hunting, fishing, boating, bee keeping and cooking. After being diagnosed with celiac disease, LaWayne learned to follow a strict diet and prepared gluten free meals. He also was attentive to his mother’s dietary needs and was always striving to maintain her health.
LaWayne led a frugal life but had a generous heart and contributed to community projects that would benefit many. He will be greatly missed as he was a loyal friend, honest and trustworthy, never having an unkind word.
He is survived by his mother Alma Mach of Pawnee City, aunts Betty Stauffer of Humboldt, Nebraska, Elsie Tomek of Pawnee City, Nebraska and Edna (Roy) Wittwer of Sabetha, Kansas, as well as many cousins, other relatives, and friends.
LaWayne was preceded in death by his father, Otto Mach, uncles Henry Stauffer and Stanley (LaVerne) Mach, and cousin Jack Stauffer.

Maxine Helen (Jacoby) Havlicek - July 19, 1922 - April 11, 2022

Obituary Preview: Maxine Helen Havlicek, 99, formerly of DuBois, Nebraska was born July 19, 1922, on a ranch in Orissa, Wyoming to William and Rose (Rousek) Jacoby. She spent her early childhood in Wyoming, then at age seven the family moved to Millville, New Jersey. Maxine attended local schools and graduated with the Millville High School class of 1940. She worked at several businesses in Vineland, New Jersey and in 1947 moved to DuBois, Nebraska. On June 9, 1947, Maxine was united in marriage to Charles Havlicek of DuBois, Nebraska. To this union three sons, Charles, Andy and Jon were born.
Maxine was active in local community activities. She was a 4-H leader, served on the local Fair Board, the Community Action Council, and served on the local 4-H council. She was an avid fossil collector. Maxine spent many afternoons scouring the Kinters Ford area for fossils and gemstones while Charles and the children fished. She received recognition from the University of Nebraska Museum of Natural History for her discoveries. Maxine was also an active learner. She loved learning and encouraging her children to keep looking… keep searching for new knowledge. She also loved history and was active in the Pawnee County Historical Society.
Maxine passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022, at the Premiere Estates Care Center in North Platte, Nebraska having reached the earthy age of ninety-nine years, eight months and twenty-three days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles and three siblings Acelia, Eugene and Ervin Jacoby.
Maxine was survived by her sons: Chuck Havlicek and wife Barbara of Manhattan, KS; Andy Havlicek and wife Susan of McCook, NE; Jon Havlicek and wife Donna of Mertztown, PA; grandchildren: Rebecca (Seth) Woods of Apex, NC; Christina (Greg) Denton of Belaire, TX; Stacey (Tim) White of North Platte, NE; Andrea Strauch of Lincoln, NE; Shawn (Janie) Havlicek of McCook, NE; Brandi Emmons of Kearney, NE; Tarra (Michael) Bendorf of Washington, NJ; Michael Havlicek of McCook, NE; 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Rudy was born on June 10, 1941, in Pawnee City, NE, to Rudolph and Mildred (Dezort) Eichenberger. He was a lifelong educator. He graduated with high honors from his high school class at Pawnee City High School in 1959. He attended Peru State College in NE, graduating with high honors in 1964. He went on to receive his master’s degree in Science from Emporia State College in KS in 1969. He received his Doctor of Physics degree in 1972 from Northern CO. He taught at Eureka College until 1981 when he was hired by Southern Arkansas University. He was a well-respected, energetic, and brilliant physics professor at SAU. He was also a huge supporter of various departments and programs with the university.
Rudy was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 47 years, who he met while they were teaching at Eureka Illinois College, Sharon (Miller) Eichenberger, and sister in law Lesa Eichenberger.
He is survived by his brothers Robert and wife Judy of Talmage, Nebraska, Arnold of Pawnee City, NE, and Daniel of Burchard, NE, and many nephews, nieces, colleagues, and friends.
