(Shivery) Taylor, who preceded him in death on April 1, 2015, after sharing 55 years of marriage together.
Johnny was a graduate of Bellefonte High School. He worked in Fleet Operations at Penn State for 32 years, until his retirement in 1991.
He is survived by his companion, Carol Barner, a son, Todd Taylor of New Market, MD, four grandchildren, Justin Taylor of Huntingdon, PA, Hailey Fischer (Johnny Luckett) of Casa Grande, AZ, Kayla Lewis (Rich) of Houston, TX, and Hannah Hill (John) of Knoxville, TN, and four great grandchildren, Kash Taylor, Fitz Lewis, Loretta Lewis, and Jordan Burton. Johnny was a member of the VFW Post #1600, American Legion Post #33, the Moose Lodge #206, and the Undines Fire Company, all in Bellefonte. Johnny’s work ethic was not easily overlooked by his family and friends. Often, he would forego his own indulgences just to make sure that he had the resources that were needed to provide for his family. His hobbies were vast and many, including hunting, playing the guitar, singing, woodworking, and traveling to name a few. Spending countless hours out hunting and learning from his dad, he eventually was able to fill those shoes and became one of the best hunters in Central PA. He was fortunate enough to be able to go on numerous hunting trips throughout the years, Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Montana, Alaska and Canada. One of his most favorite joys was that he was able to share a lot of those experiences with his father. Back at home, he had a beautiful hunting camp where he would fondly spend most of his time. He enjoyed sharing his passion for hunting and the outdoors with his family and friends, instilling lifelong lessons and values along the way. Music was a big part of Johnny’s life, forming bands along the way like “The Three J’s” “The Inn Men” and “Johnny Taylor Combo”. After losing his wife, he was lucky enough to find a caring partner, Carol Barner, who encouraged Johnny to embrace traveling and doing things that he loved for the remainder of his years. Together they took several bus trips, visiting places that they both loved. He and Carol would winter in Port Richey, Florida, where he was affectionately known as the Karaoke King by his Florida friends as he enjoyed singing karaoke often!
Johnny spent his time living life to the fullest, embracing all the special bonds that he formed over the years with others. A loving husband and partner, a devoted father, doting grandfather, uncle and friend, all who were lucky enough to know him, will remember his kind and generous spirit. Though he was humble by nature, he was viewed as a hero to many. He leaves behind countless memories for his family and friends to cherish for many years to come. The values that he exhibited throughout his life will carry on for generations to come.
A public viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte.
