A graveside service to honor Justine’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 15, 2023 at Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown. Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home is assisting the family with services.
Justine was born on January 22, 1927 in Soldier, KY, the daughter of Rev. James F. Carroll and Shirley Dalton Carroll Atteberry. She married Walter Bratcher on June 11, 1944. He preceded her in death in 1997. Justine retired from the York division of Borg-Warner after 30 years of service. She was a self-taught artist and exhibited in art shows for 19 years. She enjoyed music, golfing and reading. She travelled extensively in the United States and foreign countries.
Justine is survived by her granddaughter: Misty Bratcher-Parker of Tulsa, OK; 3 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great grandchild; she is also survived by one nephew and several nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: Michael Bratcher, daughter: Jackie Nottingham, one half-brother, two half-sisters, two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Dr. Charles O. Stanley - December 29, 1925 - November 27, 2023

Obituary Preview: Dr. Charles O. Stanley, 97, of Decatur, IL died peacefully at Summit Hills in Spartanburg, SC on Monday November 27, 2023.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 2, 10 AM at Central Christian Church in Decatur, IL with Celebration of Life Service following at 11 AM. There will be a private burial in Graceland Cemetery. Dr. Stanley was born December 29, 1925, in Decatur to a family of physicians. His father Dean Stanley, grandfather Otis Orien Stanley and great-grandfather Halstead Applegate were all physicians. In 1950, Charles Stanley received a medical degree from University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago and then interned at Philadelphia General Hospital. After serving in the US Navy Medical Corps during the Korean War from 1952-54 (one year at a US Naval Hospital in Philadelphia and the other year as a ship physician on troop transports which went many places including Germany, France, the Caribbean, Korea, Washington State, and Panama). Dr. Stanley completed a three-year fellowship in internal medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. He practiced internal medicine with his father and grandfather in 1957. His brother Dr. Paul R. Stanley joined the practice in 1964. Dr. Charles retired from active practice in 1999.
Dr. Stanley was a member and past president of the Macon County Medical Society, a member of the staff at Decatur Memorial Hospital and a member of the staff at St. Mary's Hospital. He was a member of Illinois State Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians and a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine. He was a member of Central Christian Church, and the Country Club of Decatur. He married Mary Lou Reid in 1955 and they were married 67 wonderful years.
Surviving are his wife Mary Lou; his son, Bill Stanley of Atlanta, GA; daughters, Patti Moran of Spartanburg, SC; Sara Ann Reynolds of Seattle, WA; grandsons, Charles (Lindsey) Floyd of Spartanburg, SC; Patrick Moran of Spartanburg, SC; granddaughters, Jamie Moran of Little River, SC; Katherine (Tucker) Hopp of Seattle, WA; Elizabeth (Peter) Gruene of Newport Beach, CA; Jennifer (Don) Bollard of Santa Monica, CA; Hannah Reynolds of Bentonville, AR; two great-granddaughters, Ruby Gruene and Georgia Hopp.
Dr. Charles Stanley was deeply respected and greatly loved by his family and the community. He enjoyed life and loved traveling with his wife. They had many adventures together. Dr. Charles will be truly missed.

Patrick was born January 20, 1933, in West Allis, Wisconsin the son of Thomas A. and Rose D. (Zellinger) Smallwood. He married JeanEva Mae Brady-Hathcock in June of 1952. Patrick and JeanEva owned and operated Smallwood Hearing Aid and Uniform Shops. The Smallwoods were one of the inaugural Miracle Ear Franchises established in 1984. Pat was a lifelong fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball. He was always right at home on the golf course. He would tell you his couple of rounds in Scotland were among his favorites. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a lifetime member of the International Hearing Society, was a forty year plus member of South Side Country Club, a member of The Symphony Guild of Decatur, former President and Treasurer of Theatre 7, and had enjoyed piloting small aircraft. Patrick enjoyed traveling the world, dining, dancing and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving is his wife: JeanEva of Decatur; children: Nanette Frank (William), Patrick Smallwood Jr. (Connie) and Rochelle Lambrick (John) all of Decatur; six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren also survive.
Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and four sisters.
The family would like to thank Dr. Franklin and his team for the long-standing and caring healthcare.
Mr. Smallwood provided hearing healthcare to the residents of The Eastern Star Home in Macon for many years. In his last year he was welcomed back as a resident with open, loving, and caring arms. The family is grateful to the entire staff.

Samuel was a loving and caring person who was born on May 19, 1938 in Gunnison, MS to James Skipper and Katie West.
Samuel met and married Mary Powell on January 30, 1965 and to that union came four children. On April 24, 1999 he married Edith Mae Allston. Samuel enjoyed shooting targets on his back porch, gardening and sitting in his chair watching westerns. He worked at F.W. Means, Aramark, where he drove trucks and worked at Decatur Public Transit as a driver and before retiring he worked as a dispatcher.
Samuel leaves to cherish, not mourn, his wife: Edith Mae Fakes; daughters: Barbara (James) Randell, Judy Lee and Robin (Billy) Lee; son: Deon Fakes; brother: Arthur (Annie) Fakes; nephews: Clyde Skipper, Arthur Gates and Tavon Fakes; nieces: Brenda Mitchell, Gwen Mitchell, Toni Fakes-Garner, Yolonda Booth, LaDana Fakes; Also, a host of great nieces, one great nephew and a host of in-laws. Sam has five grandsons: Shacolby Randell, RonRecco Lee, Shaylin Randell, Dominion Hayes and Justin Powell and ten great grandchildren: Justin, Alivia, Britton, Bryson, Jett, Jaxson, Ryu, Cason, Dawson, Ellison and Jocilin.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, two nephews, sister, two nieces and one nephew in-law.

Jerry was born Nov 5, 1929, to Gerald A. Sheehan and Dorothy (Cook) Sheehan. He proudly served in the USMC during the Korean War. Jerry received his BA from his beloved St. Norbert College and if he had his way, he would still be a student there. After college, he became a lifelong broker at A.G.Edwards. Jerry married Margaret (Peg) Tiernan July 20, 1957 that set them both on the journey of a lifetime which stretched throughout the world. Jerry skied, hiked, played tennis & golf and was a runner.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Peg, children Patrick (more commonly known as Redman), Anne (Jim) Peiffer, Mike (Jeneen), Gerald A. (only known as Bobby) and Tim as well as seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Jerry was preceded in death by Elizabeth Downing and Mary Rotter.

Michael was the son of James Littrell and Debbie (Dugger) Janes. He was a 1998 graduate of Eisenhower High School. Michael married Kristi Fogarty on July 15, 2017. He worked for Electrical Services Co., a division of Bodine Electric. He was also a member of the IBEW Local 146. Michael was a mentor for Homework Hangout Club, Youth Build Program.
Michael had a passion for exploring new areas, he and Kristi went on numerous trips, camping, hiking, jeeping, traveling from Jamaica to Hawaii and everywhere in between. Their favorite moments were the wrong turns and off the beaten path. He was a friend to everyone he met. He was an amazing husband, son, brother and uncle. He was so kind to all, funny with an overall great personality. A friend said he was the kind of guy that all his friends said he was “their” best friend. He was just easy to love. He will be missed so so much.
Michael is survived by his wife: Kristi Littrell; parents: James Littrell of Decatur, IL and Debbie Janes of Decatur, IL; Grandpa Ronald Dugger of Mt. Zion, IL; siblings: Michele (Kevin) Kutchma of Hudson, IL, Daniel (Krystal) Littrell of Mobile, AL, Joseph (Priscilla) Janes of Decatur, IL and Jacob (Rachel) Janes of Decatur, IL; 21 nieces and nephews, 7 great nieces and nephews and several honorary nieces and nephews.

Carrie Diane Hays - March 11, 1959 - June 11, 2023

Obituary Preview: Carrie Diane Hays, 64, of Mount Zion, IL, matriarch of the Doty Girls, passed away unexpectedly on the evening of June 11th, 2023 after spending her day tending to the weeds on the hillside of her cottage garden.
Carrie was born on March 11, 1959 to Sarah Hays and C. Dean Hays in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Carrie graduated from Mount Zion High school in 1977. She went on to work in the service industry at Mrs. Big Stuffs, The Green House, JR’s fine dining and her favorite restaurant, Felice’s. For several years she was the personal caregiver for Mary Ann Young and Karen Maier. Carrie was always know for her hospitality and kindness.
Carrie loved many things. She loved searching for treasure, both thrifting (Helen’s Corner was her favorite) and antiquing. Her collection of McCoy pottery and vintage Pyrex is unmatched. Carrie was an avid and exceptional gardener. She loved plants and created the “jungalow” concept with hundreds of house plants. She loved her little pink cottage and her brand new Amish-built log cabin shed. She also loved critters (including rats, bats, snakes and spiders). Carrie was the best cook on earth and was famous for her “soppin” gravy and potato salad. She created a ritual of hosting morning coffee for the women in her family. She enjoyed listening to AC/DC and liked to pretend Trace Adkins was her husband. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her beloved daughter, “Baby” Shelby Karch-Hays.
Carrie is survived by her mother: Sarah Farrar (Doty), her daughter Shelby Karch-HAYS (Phillip Having), her Aunt Barbara “Grannie” Rohman (Doty), cousins: David Doty (Cindy), Mike Doty (Connie), Dana Doty, Jeannie Martin (Phillips), Debbie Rohman, Dennis Rohman, step-siblings: Richard Farrar, Jane Farrar, and Danny Farrar (Susan), nephews: Jacob Lowry and Grayson Lowry, niece: Emma Rose Lowry, her beloved puppies: Barkley, Willow and Hadley, special neighbor Kathy Lowe, best friend Gail Marlow and many close friends over the years.
Carrie was preceded in death by her grandparents, father(s): Dean Hays and Glenn Farrar, Aunt Rosetta Phillips (Doty) and Uncle Bill Phillips, Uncle Bill Doty and Aunt Norma Doty, Uncle “Ole Rol” Rohman, cousins Richard and Jeffry Phillips, pets: Ken-Dog, Babe, Bailey, Gwennie, Chica, Priscilla, Kidd and several rats.

John was born on January 22, 1930 in Decatur, IL to Leo A. Stengel and Cressie (Raupp) Stengel. He married Alynda “Lyn” Ryerson of Springfield, IL on August 27, 1955. John is survived by his wife Lyn, son Jeff (Linda) Stengel of Eagle, Idaho, son Greg Stengel of Decatur, IL and son Steve (Charlene) Stengel of Royal Palm Beach, FL and two grandchildren, Jack and Anna Stengel. John was preceded in death by his brothers Leo and Dr. Robert Stengel.
John graduated from St. Teresa High School and received his undergraduate and Master of Accountancy degrees from the University of Illinois. Upon graduation, John returned to Decatur and joined the public accounting firm of Murphy, Jenne and Jones, retiring in 1988 as the partner-in-charge of the firm. He was a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Illinois Society of CPAs and served on many significant committees of both organizations during his career. As a member of the Decatur business community, John was well respected for his accounting and tax acumen but most importantly for his integrity and respect of others.
John enjoyed boating on Lake Decatur and golfing. He was an avid sports fan and supported a number of local teams as well as the Chicago Cubs and Bears.
John was a veteran of the Korean War where he served proudly in the United States Marine Corps.
He was a long-time member of Holy Family Parish. He had a passion for service to Decatur serving as the president of the Decatur Recreation Department in the 1960s and a term as the president of Decatur Public Library in the 1990s as well as being on its Board of Directors for many years.

Bob was born on January 7, 1944 in Hammond, IN, the son of Edward Cox and Bessie Atheleen (Bumgardner) Cox. He married Patricia Ann Glore on February 24, 1966. Bob worked as a millwright for AE Staley Manufacturing Company for 27 years. Bob received his private pilot license in 1978. In addition to flying, Bob enjoyed woodworking. He was a self-reliant man that enjoyed building and fixing things. Bob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather that the family always went to for advise and support.
Bob is survived by his wife: Patricia Ann Cox of Decatur, IL; daughters: Tricia Marie (Luis) Giron of Darien, IL and Christina Ann Dallavia of Decatur, IL; brother: Dennis (Judith) Cox of Milan, TN; sister: Debbie Cox-Schwalbe of Decatur, IL; grandchildren: Britta Lynn Braden, Bryce Orion Giron, Quentin Sirius Giron and Bria Bellatrix Giron.

Surviving is her husband Richard, children Christopher (Katie) Harding, Patrick (Liz) Harding, Matthew Harding, Nicholas Harding (fiancée Amanda), Zachary (Rebecca) Harding, and Brittany Harding, her sister Malinda Black, and thirteen grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Robbie Black.
Funeral Mass will be 11:00 AM Monday, March 20, 2023, in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2160 N. Edward St. Decatur, with Rev. Peter Chineke celebrant. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Mary was born May 10, 1936 in Latham, Illinois to Maude Marjorie Williams and Floyd A. Buckley. She later married Richard E. Daniels in Decatur. Mary began her life-long career as a well-known cosmetologist in Decatur at an early age, successfully operating her own business for over 60 years. She enjoyed cooking, family gatherings, tending to her flowers, and making stained glass windows.
She is survived by her sons Bruce Daniels, Brian “J.B.” Daniels, both of Decatur, Richard “Doug” Daniels (Kay), of Maplewood, Minnesota, brother Floyd Buckley (Yolanda) of Springfield, Illinois, eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, six sisters, four brothers, and one granddaughter, Annie Daniels.
A graveside service to celebrate Mary’s life will be at 11:30 AM Monday, March 13, 2023 at Illini Cemetery, Warrensburg.

Gary was retired from Sales having worked in many area food industry companies. He was also a business owner in the community formerly owning the Triangle Lounge and Triangle Motel in Decatur. Gary was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan and Illini fan. He also was an avid golfer belonging as a member of South Side Country Club in Decatur.
Surviving are his daughters: Tina Gilman (John) of Champaign, IL, Pam Bray (Tom) of Decatur, and Kelly Freeze of Mt. Zion, IL; brother: Ron Beaman (Nancy) of Dallas, TX; sister; Sandra Inman (Lee) of Decatur; grandchildren: Jordan Girard (Amber), Morgan Bologeorges (Zachary), Joseph Richards, Darren Spain (Kara), Hannah Reynolds (Lucas), Logan Grimes (Tyler) Justin Richards (Emily Tolley), and Madison Hamilton (fiancé Travis Knotts); nine great grandchildren also survive.

He graduated in 1963 from Warrensburg-Latham High School and was the recipient of the Don Flach Band award. Rick served in the US Air Force obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and after his service went on to work for Firestone Manufacturing Company, The Illinois Department of Corrections, and later for the City of Decatur Water Department. He loved animals and traveling.
Surviving are his siblings: Ron (Mary) Gilman of Maroa, IL, Gwen Wagner of Sheridan, IN, John (Tina) Gilman of Champaign, IL, David (Melody) Gilman of Mt. Pulaski, IL, Brian (Jackie) Gilman of Decatur, IL, Jed (Stephanie) Gilman of Black Hawk, CO, and Dan (Bobbie) Gilman of Evansville, IN. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, a great-great niece, and special friends and neighbors.
Rick was preceded in death by his partner: Bil Larrick, his parents, siblings: Joyce, Fred, and Cynthia and his nephew: Micah Wakeman.

Sue was born January 23, 1942, in Decatur, IL the daughter of Hubert Paul and Aileen A. (Scrimpsher) Smith. She married Robert M. Ribley in 1967 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on October 2, 1971. Sue had retired from administration at Aspen Ridge Nursing Home. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses. Sue enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. Her greatest passion was her family and raising her children.

After high school Mary Lou was employed by the telephone company as a switchboard operator where she met her husband Robert (Mike) L. Carrigan.
The Carrigans purchased their first home in Bradley, IL, where they raised their family. A special part of Mary Lou’s life was as a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Bradley, IL where she was part of the Dean Ladies Circle. She made lifetime friends at the church, enjoying their fellowship with activities the women participated in. She also enjoyed spending time with her neighbors.
Mary Lou was a beloved wife and mother and a wonderful, caring grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Dara (James) Warren of Bartonville, TX, Michael (Karen) Carrigan of Decatur, IL; grandchildren Timothy Carrigan (JohnMarc Alban) of Chicago, IL and Darcy (Kristopher) Szecsy of Seabrook, TX; great grandchildren Tristin, Kaylee, and Mateo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers, Marion and Malcolm Smith.
Per her wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation rites will be accorded and a private burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Kankakee, IL where she will be laid to rest by her husband, Robert (Mike) Carrigan.

Linda was not only an accomplished performer, but was also a master teacher of piano having maintained a private studio for over 60 years. She was a master knitter, rose gardener, and enjoyed genealogy, having traced her family back to the 1100’s.
Linda is survived by her sister Virginia Ebker, son Steve (Sally) Schepper, grandchildren Sarah (Jon) Estenson, Philip (Becah) Schepper, and five beautiful great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her brother Herbert (Pete) Boner.
Graveside services will be held at 9:00 AM Saturday, October 29, 2022, in Macon County Memorial Park. The family will host a memorial service at 11:30 AM on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at First United Methodist Church, 201 W. North St. Decatur, with Pastor Amanda Richards officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
