Neill E. Johnson, Jr - Unknown - April 11, 2022

Departed: 04/11/2022 (Yakima)
Obituary Preview: Our hero, husband and father, Neill Johnson, was taken from us too soon on April 11, 2022. He put up his best fight against cancer until his passing at the age of 40. Neill was born in Blackfoot, Idaho and moved to Selah, Washington in grade school. He loved the country life and slower pace of this small town and chose to create a life there. Neill met the love of his life, Justine, in Selah. They were high school sweethearts and married in 2006. He wanted nothing more than to have a family of his own, so along came his amazing children: Neill, Josie, Jaide and Jordynn. These kiddos were his pride and joy, and he lived every day for them. When he was healthy, they were always on the go and looking for adventure. They were very fortunate that not a day went by without exchanging “I love yous.”
Along with his family, Neill loved nature. If he could be outdoors all day, every day, he would. He enjoyed hiking, camping and anything related to fitness. Neill took pride in staying healthy and active.
If he wasn’t outside or working out, you would find him running back and forth at Costco. He loved his job there and many of his coworkers became a second family. Neill was a hardworking man and gave every task 110% of his effort.
He was preceded in death by his father, Neill Johnson Sr.; sister, Nicole Johnson; and brother-in-law Jeff Rasmussen. He leaves behind his true loves: wife, Justine, and kids Neill, Josie, Jaide and Jordynn; mother, Sheila (Tony); siblings, Cristy, Monica and Drew and many nieces and nephews. He had the honor of being a special part in the lives of Jesse, Serenity, and Berlin. He also leaves behind in-laws that he very much admired, Jim and Gail Rice.
Neill will be remembered for many things. He was something wonderfully different to everyone he knew. He was always thoughtful, playful and joyful; a truly genuine soul with a zest for life. His immense adoration for his family, his love of the outdoors, his commitment to the Lord and his never-ending work ethic are just a few of the amazing qualities he shared with us. His legacy will live on through his wife and children and those who keep a little bit of Neill in their hearts. His family would like to thank Virginia Mason in Seattle for working so hard to bring him home. Thank you also to Memorial Home Hospice and Cottage in the Meadow for allowing him to pass surrounded by his family and treating him with kindness and compassion. Neill’s family can find some comfort knowing that his body is no longer in pain, and he is now able to run around in Heaven. You will always be with us. We love you more, most, infinity…
The Johnson Family will be holding a service at Four Square Church in Yakima on Friday, April 29th at 11:00 am. Brookside Funeral Home is caring for the family.

Hobbies and things she did ‘just because’: traveling, crafts, canning, knitting, snowmobiling, 4 wheeling, working on the cabin with Dad, making root beer, and playing cards, ie, cribbage, rummy, pinochle, hearts and bridge to name a few. Also inviting her sisters over for perm day (the smell of Clairol still triggers images of her and her sisters laughing and giggling while cutting and perming each other’s hair).
She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, Selah Height Grange, and Funtimers Model ‘A ’Club, and enjoyed being a 4H leader and attending bible study classes.
Ida Mae was preceded in death by her husband Loren Wilson in 2005.

Norma C. Hickman - Unknown - February 28, 2022

Departed: 02/28/2022 (Yakima)
Obituary Preview: Norma Cecil Hickman, 93, of Yakima died peacefully on Monday, February 28th, 2022 at Cottage in the Meadow. Norma was born in Cordell, Oklahoma on April 3rd, 1928 to Homer and Willie Haws. She married the love of her life, Louis James Hickman, January 22nd, 1949 in Wheeler, Texas. They moved to Yakima in 1953 to join her mom Willie Loveall and stepdad Harry Loveall, sister Betty and brother Dean.
They became members of the Church of Christ and made many lifelong friends. They bought their first house in 1954 and worked together to remodel the entire house and build additions onto it. They soon started their family with a son Gary born June 6th, 1955, and a daughter Sandra born August 27th, 1961.
Norma was busy as a mother and wife, however after a few years she worked part time at various businesses in town as a bookkeeper, while helping Louis run 36 acres of apple orchard. After bouncing around a little she worked for Camp Fire for 17 years. She met a dear friend Tina Heilman in which she kept in touch with after retiring.
Norma and Louis enjoyed getting friends and family together year-round. During the summer for barbeques, swimming, camping, boating, playing cards, and having a contest with friends on who made the best ice cream. During the winter, they enjoyed snowmobiling, making a ridiculous amount of Christmas cookies and candies, and hosting New Year’s Eve and holiday parties. Over the years, the family traveled several times back to Oklahoma to visit relatives. The family also enjoyed traveling to Disneyland, Hawaii, and going salmon fishing on the coast.
Louis passed May 21st, 1987 and after being married for 38 years, Norma was left with the responsibilities of running an orchard. Like everything else, Norma stayed strong and with the help of her family and friends along the way, she managed to keep the orchard running for another 15 years while she also began to partial off the land and sell it. She took on various house projects by herself and continued to keep the house up to date. She is the original do it yourselfer. She had a great sense of humor and would definitely get you laughing when she was laughing.
Her children had their own children, and she was blessed with three beautiful granddaughters. She naturally fit into the grandma role and spent many days spoiling them with the best cookies, food, lemonade, and many other treats that you could never forget. She never missed the opportunity to cheer on one of her grandkids at any sporting event, concert or play. In her car trunk she always had a chair, blanket, umbrella and extra coat so she was ready for any occasion. She made it all look so easy.
She stayed in her home for 60 years and didn’t fully retire until she was in her 80’s. When she retired, she was working from home as a bookkeeper. She volunteered at the church more during her retirement. She helped her children and grandchildren with house projects, gatherings and welcomed her great-grandchildren into this world. Even in her late 80’s she could still be seen down on the floor playing with them.
Her memory slowly declined until she needed to make a change. She moved to Highgate Living Care Center and was very well taken care of there for many years. She moved in the last few months to Riverview Manor and on February 27th she moved to Cottage in the Meadow. The family would like to thank the facilities mentioned above and all the staff at those facilities for providing wonderful care to her.
She is survived by her son Gary Hickman (Debra), her daughter Sandra York and granddaughter Hilary York, her granddaughters Nicole Hickman and Heather Cobb (Matt), her great-grandchildren Benjamin Cobb, Adelaide Cobb, and Anandi Cobb, her sister Betty Nichols, her niece Debra Nichols, and family. She is preceded in death by Louis Hickman, Willie and Harry Loveall, Homer Haws, Dean Haws, and Kent Nichols.
A heartfelt thank you to Brookside Funeral Home for your advice and guidance.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Brookside Funeral Home is caring for the family.

Greta A. Alderson - Unknown - February 27, 2022

Departed: 02/27/2022 (Yakima)
Obituary Preview: Greta Ann Alderson (Ms. Greta) left this world peacefully to be with our Heavenly Father Sunday early evening on February 27, 2022. She was 73 years old. It would take a plethora of words to describe this woman, but she often stated how she was not a fan reading long obituaries, so in remembrance, this will be as concise as possible.
Greta was born and raised in Cowiche, Washington where she graduated from Highland High School and attended YVCC. She was a devoted mother, whose mission was to instill integrity, discipline, and a work ethic in her children that would ensure success throughout their lives. When home, she could be found watching sports, reading sports, or tending to her family.
She was a small, but mighty Lady who spent 40+ years serving USA, YMCA, WIAA, and AAU Swimming. She was an official, starter, meet referee, and meet director; being presented numerous awards along the way. She had her hand in every level of competition from the AAU dual all the way to the USA Olympic Team Trials. Greta had a respected reputation for being impartial, stern, and fun. Above all, it was about the kids and their success. Her aim was to make swimming accessible and enjoyable for everyone. If she was not on a pool deck, she could be found at the Sun Dome for High School State Basketball tournaments or at St. Joseph-Marquette, where she served as the Receptionist for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents Warren and Juanita Thompson, Brisco and Luci II, and survived by her husband, Richard A. Alderson; her children, Rick and Meghan Alderson, Jamie and Cylie Alderson, Steven and Jennifer Roy, Mike and Bethany Alderson Burton, and Cisco; her six grandchildren; Boden, Brielle, Brynley, Lincoln, Samuel, and Andrew; along with sisters Carolyn (Jim) McLean, Sharron Thompson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
We hope this brief synopsis would suffice for Greta; that she would read it herself in its entirety without just skimming the headline.
There will be a Visitation and Viewing of Greta at Shaw & Sons Funeral Home (201 N. 2nd St., Yakima, WA 98901) on Monday, March 7, 2022 from 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM with a Graveside Service and Celebration of Life in her name on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 10:00 AM at West Hills Memorial Park (11800 Douglas Rd,, Yakima, WA 98908). James B. Walker - Unknown - February 16, 2022

Departed: 02/16/2022 (Yakima)
Obituary Preview: It is with heavy hearts our family shares the passing of our beloved brother and uncle, James Bruce Walker. Bruce went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 16, 2022, at his home. Bruce was born July 5, 1951, to Alva and Virginia Walker in Yakima, WA. He was raised on a fruit ranch on the Naches Heights and later became the third generation to farm the ranch. He was an orchardist for over forty-five years.
Bruce enjoyed many activities throughout his life. He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved fishing, hunting, camping, and picnics with his family at Soda Spring and Clear Lake. His story telling skills were superior to none combined with his infectious laugh, particularly those pertaining to hunting and golfing. He adored his nieces and nephew and spent many hours playing with them, teaching them how to fish, golf, and play cards. Family game nights at grandma’s house were always the best. Charades, Pictionary, Quiddler, and The Farming Game provided endless opportunity for his side-splitting laughter and antics to have you laughing to the point of tears.
One of his favorite pastimes during his younger years was playing golf with his friends, who were fellow teachers and farmers in the West Valley and Naches Heights areas. They traveled the state playing tournaments their group created and spent many a fun afternoon at Suntides and surrounding golf courses.
Bruce was a very caring and companionate person and friend to animals. He was a wonderful son to his mother, who he cared for until she passed. They enjoyed playing card games and going for picnics in the mountains with the family. Bruce and mom were exceptional gardeners.
Bruce’s journey was difficult these past few years with health issues we thought were behind him. Unfortunately, his time here with us was shorter than expected, but he left a forever imprint on our hearts. A special thanks to family and friends who helped Bruce and our family during his recent health illnesses. His smile, laughter, and kindness will be greatly missed. We take comfort in knowing he is at peace with the Lord. We will keep his memory alive sharing his gentle kindness, love, and laughter with family and friends. Bruce, you were a wonderful loving friend, son, brother, and beloved Uncle B.
Bruce is survived by his sisters Sandra Robertson (Greg) Prosser, WA, Cheryl Rowe, Selah, WA; nieces Kari Robertson, Kirkland WA, Lauri Irion (Colin), Snohomish, WA, Heather Simmons (Jeremiah), Palmer, AK and nephew Charles Lewis, Yakima, WA; aunt Polly and uncle Calvin Kerr, Rome, GA, great nephews Derrick Allen, Gabe Simmons and Chase Irion and great niece Ella Irion, and many cousins.

Joanne E. Pace - Unknown - February 13, 2022

Departed: 02/13/2022 (Yakima)
Obituary Preview: “All is well,” Joanne often said with a smile, even in difficult times. All IS well now. She is with Jesus. Joanne Ethel Pace passed to her eternal home Sunday, February 13, 2022. She was born in Spokane August 24, 1939, to Clyde and Dorothy Clark, the oldest of four. She grew up living and working on the cucumber farm for her Dad’s business the Wilson Pickle Company, was a straight A student, graduated West Valley High School Spokane, went to banking school and worked for Seattle First. In 1963, she married Anthony J. Pace and moved to Seattle, where Tony worked on the phone system for the 1964 World’s Fair. They lived on Tiger Mountain and welcomed James in 1964 and Sheryl in 1966.
In 1966, they left Seattle for Yakima, which Joanne had described as they drove by on their honeymoon as “The most God forsaken place on Earth that is the LAST place on Earth I would ever want to live!” And, it WAS. Joanne lived 51 years on the 18-acre farm west of Wiley City. Joanne and Tony built their cedar log home, grew alfalfa, raised their family and animals, and had large vegetable and flower gardens. She lived her final 4 ½ years at Fieldstone Orchard West Assisted Living. Her life was not easy. She WAS a farmer! Even her hobbies were work – you know that if you ever saw her HUGE wagon-wheel herb garden and HUGE flower gardens! Her mother and three siblings died young, she was widowed at 57, and spent her last 12 years enduring physical decline, while remaining strong in mind and spirit. Never a complainer, she was humble, honest, hardworking, genuinely down-to-Earth, loving and a perfectionist. She worked hard on the farm, was a faithful church volunteer, completed Bible Study Fellowship, cherished her coffee group, and expected no glory for all she did out of love and ”because it was the right thing to do.” She also loved cats, and at one time had 28!
Joanne was single for almost 25 years, married to Tony for 33 years, widowed for 25 years, and is now reunited with Tony forever. Joanne is survived by son James Pace, daughter Sheryl (Allen) Opfer, and grandchildren Jessica Pace, Kristen Opfer, John Opfer and Karen Opfer. At Joanne’s emphatic request, out of concern for others, there will be no services. Celebrate Joanne with a cup of coffee, enjoy cookies and chocolate, laugh out loud, plant something, be a friend, thank God, and love deeply. And now, Joanne wrote these words to be her ENTIRE obituary: What a journey, 82 Years! I am grateful for eternal life through Jesus Christ, God’s great love for us all. I am thankful for a caring loving family, for loving friends, for a loving caring church, for wonderful doctors, for Memorial Hospice, and for the caring employees at Fieldstone Orchard West. I Corinthians 13:13 “And now, these three remain: faith, hope and love, But the greatest of these is love.” Now, as my Dad would say, “See you later alligator!”

Lois B Moore - Unknown - February 12, 2022

Departed: 02/12/2022 (Yakima)
Obituary Preview: Lois Benita (Gee) Moore, 91, died February 12, 2022, at home in Naches. She was born February 11, 1931, in Genoa, Nebraska to Ralph Marion and Gladys Victoria (Lawson) Gee.
Lois moved ‘out west’ with her parents to Oregon when just a child. They moved to Sunnyside, WA in 1945 and she graduated from high school there in 1948, then she attended Yakima Business College for one year. She worked as a bookkeeper for an Automotive Wholesale House, and a teller at the Sunnyside bank. Once the kids were in high school, Lois worked for Rowe Farms, a fruit processing company near Naches, WA.
Lois married Charles Melvin ‘Mel’ Moore, Dec. 9, 1950, at her parent’s home in Sunnyside, WA. They lived in Sunnyside, Tillamook, and Portland, Oregon. Upon arriving back in Sunnyside, they soon bought a place near Gleed, WA in 1964, where she and Mel raised their family, and resided throughout her life.
At Bumping Lake, Lois and Mel were lucky enough to acquire a lot and build a cabin a long time ago. Adventures and stories are many of the times with family and friends at the cabin, and nearby Goose Prairie. Of course, lots of good food with mom’s (wood stove) cooking and barbequing made these times even better. Hiking, dock floats, water skiing, fishing, horseback trips, snowmobiling, jeep trips to Miner Ridge and Deep Creek, and hiking to Bumping River falls were just a few of the activities launched from the cabin over the years.
Lois made a number of good friends from all the clubs and organizations she was involved with, which included: the Lower Naches Woman’s Club, daughters of the Nile, El Shelom and Order of the Eastern Star, Vesta Chapter #156, Naches, where she had been Worthy Matron twice and Deputy Instructor one year. She also held the position of Grand Adah for the Grand Chapter of Washington one year, which included traveling throughout the state. Those friendships included Friday lunches at the deli in Naches. A good time had by all. Lois was an avid gardener planting a large vegetable garden every year, with canning and preserving to come later in the summer and fall. The family enjoyed the fruits of all her hard labor in the garden. The horses and the cows enjoyed some unshelled pea pods occasionally. (Sorry mom, you can only shell so many 5-gallon buckets of peas as a kid.)
She was a Master Gardener in our eyes. Her petunias in the wagon out front were used as a clue in several local road rallies over the years, and even in the Great-Race of 2005 which came by and later stopped in Naches, WA on their way to Tacoma. The flower beds around the house were bursting with color every summer. The small orchard provided ample apples for some wonderful homemade pies, applesauce, and extra money for the fair in the fall for us kids.
Her mother was an excellent cook, Lois loved to cook and bake as well. When Lois was younger, she wanted to open her own restaurant. Her sister to this day says, “she made the best cinnamon rolls.” Being involved with the above-mentioned club/s mom would be asked to bake breads, pies, and other goodies for their bazaars, which usually meant nothing was left to bring home for us kids to enjoy. The workers at Rowe Farms, several times a year, had “bring your own dish” for a potluck. Several of her co-workers would ask which dish was hers? Of course, Mom’s casserole dish was usually empty or had very little left in it when she got home.
Lois and Mel made several trips with their good friends the Rogers to Arizona and Alaska which included tuna and cod fishing in their retirement years. Mom loved to go golfing with her good friend Jonnie Rogers. Mom even got a chance to travel to Hawaii, and Toronto, Canada with several of her good friends.
She is survived by Mel her husband, daughter Paula (James) Eccleston and children Bryan and Brittany, son Ronald Moore and daughter-in-law Rexine Moore and children Jonathan (Amberlee) and Jason (Rosa). She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Holland, Delaney, Jonas, Malachi, Josias, Selah Moore and Elias and Abel Eccleston and two step grandchildren, Jordan (Kayla) and Josephine (Derek) Berkey, and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Jacquelyn Glavinick, and nieces and nephews and cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son David, sister Mona (Vestal) Wallace, brother Bob (Bev) Gee and brother-in-law Franklin Glavinick, plus two nephews, Lloyd & Bob Wallace.
There will be a time of visitation Friday March 4, 2022 from 4-8 PM, at Keith and Keith Funeral Home, 902 W. Yakima Ave., Yakima. A Graveside Service is planned Saturday March 5, 2022, at 1 PM, at West Hills Memorial Park.
