Obituary Preview: Shirley W. Mott, 92, of Eastwood, died on April 28, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was an active member of Eastwood Baptist Church and a former volunteer with the Mattydale Fire Department.
She was pre-deceased by her son Daniel and sister Florence Smith.
She is survived by her sons: William (Patricia), Allen (Lynne), Timothy (Diane); daughter in law Kathleen Mott; sister Joan Knight; 11 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Saturday from 2-3pm with a service at 3pm in the Welter-Price Funeral Home, 3111 James Street. A graveside service will be held on Monday at 10am in White Chapel Cemetery.

She is a lifetime member Elmwood Presbyterian Church, taught Sunday School, had formerly worked at the USO, and is a member of the FCRV-NCHA Camping Club for over 20 years.
Pre-deceased by her husband Dwight H. McClemens. Survived by 4 sons: David (Michelle) of Baldwinsville, Jim of Central Square, Mark of New Jersey, Paul of Virginia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-7:00pm at the Welter-Price Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be on Saturday at 9:30 at the Robinson Elmwood Presbyterian Church, Westvale. Burial will be in Valley Cemetery.

She had resided with her husband and children for many years on North Collingwood Ave in Eastwood then at their retirement home in Smyrna, NY and spent the winters at their home in Brooksville, Florida. Shirley was a former cook for 32 years for Queens Court and Kelli Jo diners in Syracuse, NY and retiring from American Food and Vending at New Process Gear where she served as Union Steward for Restaurant and Hotel Workers. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, The Eagles in Brooksville, Florida, and the American Legion in Sylvan Beach, New York. She was an avid bowler and traveled with her husband to many locations but she truly loved her many trips to Hawaii but when at home in New York she spent much time in Lake George. Her time with her family and friends was her favorite, especially the cookouts.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Edward John Amlott; daughters: Florence (Michael) Pikulinski, Dawn (John) Kelly; son: Edward George (Lorie) Amlott; grandchildren: Tim, Joshua, Christina, Jordan, Michael, Stephanie, Joanna; great grandchildren: Damian, Johnathan, Aria, Jaxson, Julian; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11am at the Welter-Price Funeral Home with burial to follow in White Chapel Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 3-6pm at the funeral home.

Obituary Preview: Gloria N. Gerhardt, 85, of Syracuse, died on December 28, 2023, at Van Duyn. She was a very active, fun-loving caring person devoted to her family. Because of her son Chris who is mentally handicapped She started out as a volunteer teacher assistant with ARC in 1970 which then led to her employment as an Executive Personnel Assistant at ARC for 25 years. Gloria was also a co-founder of Boy Scout Troop# 326 which was one of the first Boy Scout Troops established for mentally handicapped boys in the Syracuse area. She was also a volunteer for the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure for several years. She was also extremely proud and supportive of her oldest son Clifford who is a retired Air Force veteran.
She is pre-deceased by her husband Frederick who died in 1992. Always devoted to him, she remained a widow for 31 years.
She is survived by her sons Clifford and Christopher of Syracuse, a sister Dawn DeVaul of Moravia, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 11:30 at the Welter-Price Funeral Home with burial to follow in White Chapel Cemetery. Calling hours are 10-11:30 before the service at the funeral home, 3111 James Street.

She lived her entire life in Syracuse; Eastwood to be exact. She truly loved it. She also loved SU sports and animals. Although her last years were challenging, most of her life was spent living for her family which included five children, Christy, Larry, Mark, Donna and Paula, and her husband, Charles Hannay, which is all she wanted.
She is survived by four children, grandchildren and a sister. She married our dad (they were childhood friends) her one and only true love. Our parents not only loved each other, but genuinely liked each other. Our house was filled with love, laughter and security. We thank you mom, mommy, ma and mommy dearest, for being our mother. Give our love to daddy and Christy.
She will be laid to rest at the VA Cemetery with our father in a private ceremony.

Richard W. Bregard - Unknown - July 16, 2023

Obituary Preview: Richard W. “Dick” Bregard, a retired colonel, proud and distinguished 38-year veteran of the United States Army, passed away on July 16, 2023.
A native of Syracuse, he joined the US Army in 1959, served as an NCO in the States, Korea & Germany. He was selected to attend Ordnance Officer Candidate School & received his commission as an Ordinance Officer in 1968. His first notable assignment was as an Electronic Maintenance Platoon Leader in the 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam, after which he returned to command a company at the Ordnance Missile & Munitions Center and School from 1969-71. In 1974-75 he served as Commander Direct Support Element, HAWK, Korea. Other assignments include working in the STINGER Project Office; Missile & Munitions Division Chief, 2nd Support Command, Germany; becoming the first Munitions Systems Manager at Redstone Arsenal; 1984-86 he became the Commander of the Mississippi Army Ammunition Plant. He later commanded Rock Island Arsenal during Desert Shield & Desert Storm. His last assignment before retiring was Deputy Program Officer, US Army Material Command in VA. After retiring in 1997, Dick continued to support the Department of Defense, the US Army & the Ordnance Corps. His first civilian position was with Nichols Research. Followed by executive positions with Aerojet Rocketdyne & Northrup Grumman, President Areojet Ordnance Tennessee where he continued the development of weapons systems, such as fielding the first Smart Artillery Munition. On May 4th, 2022, COL Bregard was inducted into the US Army’s Ordinance Corp Hall of Fame.
Col Bregard’s education is extensive; graduated with honors from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, National Defense University; BS in Business Mgmt from Alabama A&M and an MS in logistics from Florida Institute of Technology.
COL Bregard’s notable awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal 2nd Award, Army Commendation Medal with 2nd Award and with Combat Distinguishing Device “V”, Army Achievement Award, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal 3rd Award, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Technical Service Medal 3rd Award, Noble Patron of Armor Award, National Defense Industrial Association Firepower Award and the Ordnance Order of Samuel Sharpe #365.
Predeceased by his parents, William R and Ann K (Steingrebe) Bregard and his sister, Linda Bregard Paul. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Brown Bregard; his sisters, Karen (Don) Stonecipher, Joyce (Ken) O’Brien; four children, Wayne Bregard, Jim (Barb) Bregard, Tammy (Mark) Splawn, Angela (Kevin) Kidd; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren & several nieces and nephews.

Thomas M. Rizzo - October 06, 1941 - April 01, 2023

Obituary Preview: Tommy Rizzo, 81, died on April 1, 2023 at the FASNY Firemen's Home in Hudson, NY, where he spent his last nine years as a resident, experiencing great camaraderie with his brotherhood of Volunteer Firefighters. Tom often said it was the best place for him to be. He even admitted he should've gone sooner!
While growing up in Lyncourt, Tom was an avid follower of Syracuse Basketball, the Syracuse Chiefs and the NY Yankees. He was previously employed with Syracuse China and Killian. Fire Police Tom was dedicated to the Lyncourt F. D., with over fifty years of volunteering, continuous brotherhood and never ending support. Tom's most favorite memories were of Inlet Camp Life spent with his parents, brother and uncles, especially "Uncle Sam".
Tom was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Catherine Charima Rizzo, his younger brother, John, and the deceased members of his Firehouse. Tom leaves behind his Rizzo and Charima cousins, living members of his Firehouse/their families, "Ma" Wolpink and family, Schaffer neighbors and the FASNY Firemen's Home caring staff and friends. Tom will be missed.
Tom was honored with his "Last Call" and laid to rest in Assumption Cemetery. A memorial Mass is scheduled at Transfiguration Church, 740 Teall Ave in Syracuse on April 15th at 10:30. Contributions in Tom's memory can be made to Lyncourt Fire Department, 2909 Court St, Syracuse, NY 13208.

She worked as an executive assistant for an insurance company, television station and later for the NY State Legislature. She was a member of the University Club of Albany, Syracuse University Alumni Association, Albany Museum of History & Art, and the Mohawk River & Colonie Ladies Golf Leagues.
She is pre-deceased by her husband of 30 years, Alan L. Yakeley who died in 1990, brothers Robert W. Mott, Donald J. Mott, Reginald H. Mott, Gary A. Mott and sisters Rowena M. Allen, A. Sharleen Bruse and Beulah G. Pierce.
She is survived by a brother, Lawrence D. Mott of Oneida and sisters Barbara J. Anable of Willimantic, CT and Betty J. Billingsley of Concord, CA, and many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: David Michael Lovy, 58, of Fayetteville, NY, left us too soon on Tuesday, August 30, 2022. He was the loving husband of 23 years to Linda (Kolozsvary) Lovy and the devoted father of Cain Lovy. Dave was the third child of four, born on August 31, 1963 in Kingston, NY. He is the son of Michael A. Lovy and Elizabeth (Wollney) Lovy of Austin, TX. Dave graduated from Kingston High School in 1981 and received his Electrical Engineering degree from SUNY Buffalo in 1985. After working for others for a short time, he gathered capable people and started up his own company working as Chief Software Architect. His fertile mind allowed him to obtain multiple patents and he was able to sell the company and retire in 2019 to spend full time with his family.
Dave enjoyed racing his sailboat “Greyhound” on Oneida Lake as part of Oneida Lake Sailing Club. He was a music fan and met his future wife while working as a roadie for her rock band. He could work on any car, whether it be a vintage Model T or a brand new Tesla. He shared his love of Scouts with his son and they often went camping together with Troop 51. He frequently retreated to Mohonk Mountain House with his family to enjoy rock scrambles, live music and the serene lake. He was always tinkering with something, whether it be electrical, mechanical or software. He had a quiet, dry humor, and enjoyed cool weather, even walking outside barefoot in the snow. Anyone who encountered Dave came away with a sense that he was a good person, because he was kind, courteous, patient and fun to be around.
In addition to his wife, son, and parents, Dave will be deeply missed by siblings, Michelle Philpot (Michael), Renee Amator (Melissa), and Donald Lovy (Tonya); along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and the family cat Ripley.

Obituary Preview: Robert (Bob) Dunshie Sr., age 75, of Syracuse, peacefully passed away on February 8, 2022 after a long fight with pancreatic cancer and complications from a recent fall. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Susan Dunshie, and three children, Roxanne Davis, Robert Dunshie Jr., and Carrie Dunshie. He is survived by daughter, Roberta Chandler, daughter-in-law, Jennifer Dunshie, son-in-law, Eddie Davis, and grandchildren, Leah Waller and Andrew Dunshie. Other than his wife, Bob had numerous other things he loved, including playing pool, listening to the oldies/doo wop music, taking road trips to amusement parks or to Florida to see his family, and spending time with his faithful companion, dog, Jeter. Bob had a voracious appetite for two things—a great meal, especially if there was a coupon included, and a good book. Bob was a long-time member of Erwin Methodist Church and proud member of the APA Pool League of Syracuse. Bob was a graduate of Corcoran High School. Bob had a long career in food service operations, starting at Acme in and retiring from Flickinger in 2002. Prior to the start of his career in the food industry, Bob was a member of the Navy, serving as a Boatswain's Mate aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga during the Vietnam War. A few of his honors and accolades include Meritorious Service Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal. During their retirement, John and Ervena were snowbirds for a number of years, traveling between Liverpool, NY and New Port Richie before finally settling in Spring Hill, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings and was predeceased by his wife Ervena in 2015. John is survived by many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband George Denison; brothers Gene, Gerald (Tom) and Richard (Skip) Austin; sister Darlene (Austin) Bowman; brother-in-law Ron Cerutti; grandchildren Danielle and Brandon Galloway. Kay is survived by her son Richard Barber (Patricia); step-daughter Michelle Furlong (Bill); Brothers Franklin (Barb) and Keith Austin; sister Charlene Cerutti; grandchildren Corey (Maleka) Barber and Alyssa (Dylan) Antunes, great grandchildren Allegra, Cole and Harmony Barber and many nieces, nephews and in-laws. Kay was born in Syracuse on April 14, 1939. She spent her early years helping to raise her many brothers and sisters. During her working years she was a switch board operator, and later an account clerk for Kilian Mfg. She also worked as an account clerk at Case Supply Co. In 1966 she adopted her son Richard as a 6 month old baby, with her first husband. In 1982 she married the love of her life, George, and gained a wonderful step-daughter Michelle. Kay and George were avid bowlers in the Eastwood area for many years, with Kay giving her time to work on various leagues and tournaments. After George passed in 2008, Kay became a member of the Frank DeFrancisco Eastwood Community Center. She made many great friends at the center and became a favorite caller of BINGO, as well as helping out where she could. Kay was a very kind and loving person. It was her nature to put others first. She never had a lot, but she would give what she could. She had a gentle soul and hated to see living things suffer. She loved animals and owned a few beloved dogs over the years. Her last pet was a cat named Dusty, who she adored. Kay was friendly, outgoing, and loved to laugh; but she was not one to be crossed. She was slow to anger, but you did not want to be on the receiving end of her wrath. Adversity had made her tough. Life had given her the spirit of a fighter, but her heart always remained huge and filled with love. Family was everything to her. She was an exceptional, loving, giving and caring mom and grandmother. In later years, her three great grandchildren were the light in her eyes. She was loved beyond measure and will be greatly missed by all.
