Harold McCroskey - February 11, 1940 - May 17, 2024

Obituary Preview: Harold Wayne McCroskey, age 84, of Bristol, TN passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, May 17, 2024. He was a long-time member of Parkway Baptist Worship Center and attended until he was no longer able.
Harold was born on February 11, 1940 in Bristol, TN, the son of the late Paul and Lucy McCroskey. He served in the United States Army, beginning in 1960, spending most of his time in Germany. He began his career at Reynolds Metals Company in 1971 and retired in 2004. During his time at Reynolds, he was a storeroom manager and later a production manager.
He had a great passion for antique cars. He loved finding and restoring them with friends, traveling in them, and going to car shows to find parts and to view the results of others’ hard work.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae McCroskey and brother Jerry McCroskey. Survivors include his daughter, Tammy Swicegood and husband Denis; son, Terry McCroskey and wife Monica; several grandsons and two great grandchildren. Special thanks and heartfelt appreciation to his closest friends, Wayne O’Neal and Charlie Whitaker. The depth of their friendship was immeasurable. Mattie Wilson, his in-home caregiver who loved him well and dedicated her life to him, daily. South High Senior Living, best facility and care staff around; thanks to each and every staff member that loved on and cared for him so compassionately, and affectionately referred to him as “handsome blue eyes.”
The funeral service for Mr. McCroskey will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2024 in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Matthew Stewart officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. prior to the service. The committal service and interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024 in Glenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Whitaker, Joe Blake, Jimmy Stallsworth, Peyton Light, Doug Saul and Jim O’Day. Honorary Pallbearer will be Wayne O’Neal.
Arrangements have been made with Weaver Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Vols, going to the shooting range, and fixing up his Jeep. He was employed by Snap on Tools.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by beloved wife, Mary Ann Stewart. Survivors include his children, Shawn Stewart and wife Emma, Lindsey Rasnake and husband Ryan; sister, Christie Kilgore and husband Glenn; grandchildren, Paxton, Collins, and Scottlyn; nieces and nephews, Dacey Kilgore and fiancé Jamie, Breonna Kilgore; several other nieces and nephews; and many work friends.

Obituary Preview: Edward Pitzer Harding, age 87, of Bristol, Va passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. He was born December 17, 1936 in Castlewood, VA to the late Edward G. Harding and Lena Francisco Harding. He was a retired accountant, and was a member of New Grace Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing his fiddle in jam sessions at Gene Boyd’s Home and at Star Barber Shop. In Ed’s own words, “Castlewood, where the Clinch River flows, the soft breeze blows, and the blue grass grows. Castlewood, where a man is free, the place that is home, sweet home to me.”
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Shelby Jean Harding and daughter, April Jean Harding. Survivors include many dearly remembered cousins, friends, and his beloved cat, Thomas.
There was nothing Ed enjoyed more than trading stories with his best friend, Jim Rush. A big thanks to Ed’s favorite pal, Dr. John Green for the care he gave from the heart. A special word of thanks to Ballad Hospice for their love and care. Also, a special thanks to his neighbors, Judy and Willie and to Marla for the wonderful care in his last years.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2024 in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, VA with family and friends officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Boozy Creek Bluegrass Band.

He was born on May 18, 1940, in Glade Spring, Va., a son of the late Ottie Vernon and Ida Gray Jackson Warren. Ron was a U.S. Army and National Guard Veteran and retired with 25 years of service. He lived most of his life in the Bluff City area and retired from Bristol Compressors. Ron was a member of New Grace Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William Jason Warren; and brothers, Kenneth Warren, George Warren and Howard Warren.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Warren; brother, James “Frank” Warren & wife Martha; granddaughter, Isabella Hanson; and several special nieces and nephews.

Clarence Edward Frye - July 24, 1930 - May 14, 2024

Obituary Preview: He was the eldest son of William Edward Frye (Ed) and Ella Mae Cross, brother to Leona Hazel Trinkle, Ardella Mae Brewer, and John Carroll Frye (JC), and grew up in South Bristol, TN.
Clarence's beloved wife, Lena Latham Frye preceded him in death in 2007. Their children are Mark, Scott, Stuart, and Tara. They have six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Clarence enlisted in the Tennessee National Guard in 1948 and was assigned to F Company, 278th Regimental Combat Team. Clarence graduated from Tennessee High School in 1949. He attended King College, but his mobilization to fight in Korea interrupted his studies. He deployed with Company G, 5th Regimental Combat Team, 1951-1952 and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge.
Clarence met his wife Lena after returning to King College after being discharged from the Army. They married in 1954.
He transferred to the University of Tennessee and graduated with an accounting degree in 1955. The U.S. Army Audit Agency hired Clarence that same year and he worked at Holston Defense Corporation in Kingsport, Tenn. Clarence completed his Certified Public Accountant certificate in 1958.
Clarence was later selected to the senior executive service and subsequently graduated from the prestigious Federal Executive Institute.
He retired as Director of Financial and Logistical Audits as an SES-4 in 1988. His assignments as an auditor took him to Fort Stewart, Ga., Savannah, GA., Charlotte, N.C., Washington, D.C., Yokohama, Japan, Atlanta, GA., Frankfurt, West Germany, and Arlington, VA.
Clarence spent his time in retirement building houses for members of the family.
He also founded Taff and Frye Co. Inc., a Tri-Cities based demolition business, in 2001. He sold his stake in the business Nov. 22, 2019. Clarence held one patent and was a member of the Association of Mechanical Engineers.
He attended High Point Presbyterian Church. "Lena and I promised each other a great adventure. And we did it."
The funeral service for Mr. Frye will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2024, at High Point Presbyterian Church, with Rev. John Markel officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service. The committal service and interment will follow the service in High Point Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.

She had lived in Bristol for the past fifty years, where she had worked as a receptionist for Dr. Repass for twenty-five years. She later went on to retire from Buntings/Northside Pharmacy where she’d worked for twelve years. In addition to her parents, Ms. Harkins was preceded in death by her daughter, Charlotte Marie Harkins; step-father, Robert Crouch; and a brother, Bruce Belcher.
Survivors include her daughter, Rebecca Marie Harkins Little; grandchildren, Haley Peery, Jessie Peery Evans and husband Wayne, Molly Mackenzie Little; and great grandchildren, Harlo Evans and Lucy Evans.
Services for Ms. Harkins will be private.

She volunteered with the Bristol Christian Women’s Club. Judy worked for many branches of the federal government until she found her dream job at the Social Security Office in Bristol. She retired in 2016. She was so grateful for the many different experiences she had in life.
She always wanted everyone to love each other. She was preceded in death by her husband Randy Richardson. Survivors include her son James R Overdorff and his wife Michelle, a sister Dreama Vicars, grandson Austin Overdorff, and a great grandson Ryker Overdorff and two nephews CJ and Eddie Pitman and their families.

Those left to cherish his memories include his loving wife of 59 years, Mallissia “Sue” Chapman; daughter, Valerie Watkins and husband Rick; son, Buddy Wayne Chapman and wife Melissa; grandchildren, Brittany Livesay and husband Jeremy, Samuel Brady Chapman, and Paisley Chapman; great grandson, Jarin Livesay; and niece, Ruth Moore and husband Jimmy.

She loved her family dearly, and will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, Rosemarie was preceded in death by her granddaughter Tara Hyland; brothers, Angelo Miliano, Florindo Miliano, George Miliano; and step-brother, Benjamin Miliano.
Those left to cherish her memories include her children, Martin Hyland, Maureen Masters and husband Robert, Jimmy Hyland and wife Jennifer, Richard Hyland and wife Tracee; grandchildren, Tonya Newmarch and husband Bob, Chelsea Booher and husband Tony, Alex Hyland, Hailey Johnson, Jacob Hyland, Brian Hyland and wife Ella; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and furry friends, Ariel and Precious.

Jimmy “Wayne” Shaffer, age 72, lifelong resident of Bristol, Va., passed from his earthly home to his heavenly home on May 4, 2024. He was born on September 12, 1951, in Bristol, Va., a son of the late Wilmer and Esther Olinger Shaffer.
Wayne accepted the Lord as his Savior in 1985 and was a member of Belle Meadows Baptist Church in Bristol, Virginia for over 30 years. He loved singing in the church choir and fellowshipping with his church family. Wayne also sang with, “The Singing Disciples” and “The Master’s Hands”. Now he is singing with the heavenly choir. Wayne loved fishing, and making people laugh. He wrote poems that were published and songs that he had recorded. He also enjoyed working with wood and fiberglass.
Wayne worked at Cortrim Lumber Company, Bristol Compressors and retired from Strongwell Corporation after 31 years of employment.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clint and Ossie Clark Shaffer; maternal grandparents, Manuel and Mary Hamilton Olinger; in-laws, Rev. Bill and Ann Skeens; daughter, Jessica Smith; sister, Brenda Noe Crawford; several aunts and uncles; and good friends, Gene and Millie Peters.
He is survived by his loving wife and constant companion of 37 ½ years, Margie Shaffer; sons, Jeremy and wife Amanda, Justin and wife Emely; grandchildren, Jacinda, Jordana, Josh, Jacob and wife Casey, Jaxson and Essie; eight great grandchildren; brothers, Ray Shaffer and wife Faye, and Garry Shaffer; sister, Frieda Shaffer and Mark; aunts, Dorothy Harvey, June Shaffer, and Betty Newland; brother-in-law, Richard Crawford; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Wilma and Eddie Dollar, Debbie and Don Snowden, Donald Martin; and his church family.
The funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Belle Meadows Baptist Church, with Dr. Dewey Williams and Rev. Tim Clark officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. The interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Eastern Heights Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jacob and Josh Mayne, Kyle Geffers, Scott Stine, John Linton and John Salyers.
