Anna Cimino - October 14, 1934 - September 11, 2021

Departed: 09/11/2021 (Hartford City)
Obituary Preview: Anna Coyne Cimino
Anna Coyne Cimino, 86 of Hartford City, Indiana, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 11, 2021 after a brief illness.
God broke the mold when she was born to Michael and Helen (King) Coyne on October 14, 1934 in Pittsburgh, PA.  She was a 1952 graduate of Dormont High School and grew up in the Pittsburgh area, where she played “hard-to-get” with her future husband, Vincent “Vince” Cimino. Her version of the love story started with rides (to work) on the streetcar, where she frequently saw Vince with his buddies.  He once snuck a conversation alone with Anna and asked her to say “hello” to him in front of his friends, the next time she saw them.  Days later when he said “Hi, Anna,” she forgot his name and blurted out, “Hi, Victor.”
Over the next couple of years, she continued to answer letters from other potential suitors as well as dating them, but finally caved to Vince’s advances after his return from the Korean War.  Their life together officially began when they wed on April 5, 1956.  They remained devoted to each other for the next 65 years, even after Anna Started crying at the sight of cows and rural life, when they moved to Indiana in August 1970.
Anna, who never met a stranger, was a spitfire who wasn’t afraid to kick up a fuss, and she usually found a way to get away with it.  The community quickly learned that, after she successfully protested her daughters being sent to different schools after moving to Hartford City.  She eventually fell in love with her new home and became a household name in Blackford County.
She was a longtime member of the Board of Directors, of the Hartford City Cemetery, where she served in the capacity of Secretary many years, the Psi Iota Xi sorority, president of the Blackford Country Club, member of the Blackford Women’s Golf League, Delaware Country Club Golf Association; a thirty-five year member of the Hartford City Bowling League and a volunteer at St. John the Evangelist Church and School for nearly forty years.
Anna was often the first one on the dance floor and she would worry if you didn’t have a glass of wine in your hand.  She had a story for any occasion, many of which were elaborate, probably embellished, yet fiercely entertaining.
She was many things, but most of all, she was a devoted wife and mother.  She leaves behind her loving husband, Vince; daughters:  Michelle Dickey, Anita Kerrigan and Marguerite (husband, Tom) Conners; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
As her family grieves losing their feisty matriarch, they’re comforted by the memories of her bright blue eyes vibrant laugh and the enormous amount of love they felt from her, every single day.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Kevin Hurley at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, Sept.16, 2021 in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church 209 S. Spring St., Hartford City.  Interment, following the mass, is in the Hartford City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 P.M. Wednesday, Sept. 15th in the Waters Funeral Home 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City.  The Christian Wake service will begin at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Vincent & Anna C. Cimino Community Fund, c/o the Blackford Community Foundation, 121 N. High St. Hartford City, IN 47348 or in the form of masses to the church.
