Tracy John Crockett - July 11, 1963 - April 01, 2022

Departed: 04/01/2022 (Amarillo)
Obituary Preview: Tracy John Crockett, 58, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2022, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Blue Island, Cook County, Illinois, to Bernard Emerson and Grace Agnes Alexander Crockett.
“One, two, three, look at me, I'm Tracy John Crockett." I loved fishing, hunting, dancing, roller skating, and spending time with my family. I grew up in Altgeld Gardens on the Southside of Chicago. As a child, I loved to fill my mouth with Bubs Daddy bubble gum, playing basketball, street hockey, and softball.
I graduated from Carver Middle School (Jr. High) in 1977 and in 1981 I received my Graduate Equivalency Degree (GED) diploma. I am the father of four amazing adult children, and I became a father at an early age. My two oldest are only a few months apart (what can I say). Even though I was young, I did what I could to help support my children. But we all know life got the best of me. Years later I had two sons whom I was estranged from because their mom moved from Atlanta, Georgia, back to her home state which made me miss out on being a part of my sons' life. While living in Georgia, I discovered my love for building homes and completed an apprenticeship program for stucco masonry. I worked for over 25 years until I had an automobile accident which limited my ability to raise my hands over my head without pain. The only regret I had in life is not spending enough time with my kids, but I am forever grateful for the times we shared before I departed my body.
Tracy was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Emerson Crockett, stepfather, Edward McKinney, grandparents, Bert and Myra Alexander, Ida Hammond, and Marcus Crockett, sister-in-law, Erie Crockett, brother-in-law, Darrell Darling, niece, Joni Crockett, great-niece, Mona Crockett, and great-nephew, Pershundis Holmes, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Grace Agnes Alexander Crockett, his children, Tracy Beal, Kimberly Powell, Joshua Ross, and Garrett Ross (Sharquel), grandchildren, Markeisa Beal, Tracy Beal, III, Jonathan Canty, Jr., Jordan Powell, Malia Ross, Milyn Ross, and Zyair Ross, his siblings, Bernard Crockett, Jr., Flora Whitlow, Duane Crockett, Joni Evans (Gilbert), Stephanie Jackson (Charles), Kim Darling, Grace Crockett Beacham (Tony), Teka Day (Fred), Edward McKinney, Jr., (Sondra), Lora Lee McKinney, and Shawna Bennett, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who were all his favorites, and other relatives and friends.
I want my family to know that I am safe, and happy, and will forever watch over you all. My Dear Mom, I love you, and don't worry about me. I'm with my dad! "I Wish It Would Rain." Love Tray-5 Please sign the On-Line Guest Book at www.warfordmortuary.com

O. V. Lewis - February 04, 1928 - February 22, 2022

Departed: 02/22/2022 (Amarillo)
Obituary Preview: “For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.” 2 Thessalonians 3:10
O. V. Lewis, 94, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on February 22, 2022, after a long overall healthy life.
O.V. was born in Idabel, McCurtain County, Oklahoma to Martin and Sarah Blackshire Lewis. He was an extremely hard worker. Due to the commitment and dedicated service he provided to each organization he worked for he only held a handful of jobs his entire life. O.V. passed on this same work ethic to his children. He had several sayings or “mottos” that he will be forever remembered by. Two of the top ones are: “All you gotta do is just wait on time, and time will tell the story.” And “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make ‘em drank.”
O.V. was built to last, a “country boy,” a child of the great depression. He had many stories to tell about his upbringing, like how he longed to go serve his country in the military like his older brothers but could not because he was the youngest male child, or how he had to walk to school barefoot and had to literally run-down animals in the fields so they could have meat to eat for dinner. Though he left the sticks of the small country town of Idabel, Oklahoma, decades later, he still would not hesitate to wring a chicken’s neck, or gut a jackrabbit, clean ‘em up, and prep it for the frying pan.
O.V. was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Etta Lewis, two sons, Otis Lewis and Herbert Lewis, a daughter, a granddaughter, two grandsons, seven sisters, Earlene Tucker, Pearline Biggers, Elnora Bell, Elma Adams, Maudie Craig, Susie Cotton, and Ola Mae Hooks, four brothers, Scott Lewis, Wille Lewis, Elmer Lewis, and John Lewis.
He leaves to cherish his memory, four daughters, Laverne Campbell (Don), Evelyn Coleman (Leon), Phyllis Stanfield (Ira), and Victoria Parker (Kevin), five sons, Gene Ray Coleman (Sherry), Carl Ashley (Shirley), Gregory Lewis (Holly), Donald Lewis, and Tyrone Lewis, twenty-five grandchildren, fifty-three great-grandchildren, fifteen great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Linda Faye Denning - June 29, 1962 - February 15, 2022

Departed: 02/15/2022 (Amarillo)
Obituary Preview: Linda Faye Smith Denning, 59, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2022.
She was born in Amarillo, Potter County, Texas, to Richard and Mary Hall Smith.
Linda was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She had four sons and an honorary son, Neko Wilson.
Linda loved laughing and spending time with family and friends. You could often find her playing cards or dominos at a local park with friends. She loved to cook barbeque and soul food for her family. Her barbeque ribs, fried chicken, creamed corn, greens, beans, and cornbread, just to name a few, were ones for the record books.
Linda’s grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her smile would light up a room whenever one of them was in her presence. She loved gospel and blues music. It was a common occurrence for her to be singing along to gospel or blues while cleaning her house or cooking her meals. She was no-nonsense. Raising four boys into respectable and successful men was no easy feat. She stepped up to the challenge and exceeded the expectations by moving herself and her boys from Texas to California, for a chance of a better life and more opportunities. One sweet memory her sons have of her parenting style coming up was the way Linda would make them cook, clean, and be independent. She was always telling them, “you guys will grow up and have a wife because you want her, not because you need her to survive.”
Linda remained in California until recent years when she returned to Texas, as she always considered Amarillo home. She loved to tickle and wrestle with her grandchildren and always caught them by surprise by her strength as the kids never expected a “grandma” to be so strong.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Jairol Red, and a sister, Donna K. Smith.
Linda leaves to cherish her memory, three sons, Calvin Smith (Kezzisa), Clarence Denning (Corina), and Joseph Denning, daughter-in-law, Jyran Red, eleven grandchildren, Keyla Smith, Diamond Smith, Calvin Smith Jr., Kyria Smith, Jairol Red, Jr., Kasarah Red, Kane Red, Zion Denning, Jay Denning, Josiah Denning, and Jaylen Denning, six siblings, Gloria Smith, Richard Smith, Jr., L. T. Smith, Timothy Smith, Alex Smith, and Carolyn Smith. There are so many things that we all will miss about Linda. Until we meet again in heaven, Mama, we love you! Judith Katherine Kerr - June 05, 1938 - May 29, 2021

Departed: 05/29/2021 (Amarillo)
Obituary Preview: Longtime civic leader Judith Katherine Sumner Kerr, 82, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021.
She was born in Shamrock, Wheeler County, Texas, to Emmitt Peazer and Lumarion Weir Sumner.  Moving multiple times throughout her childhood, she developed the ability to fit into any setting, make friends, exercise leadership, and command respect.
Known for her strong opinions, she could be gracious when needed and brutally honest when situations called for telling the truth and holding people accountable.
She attended Arkansas Tech University before marrying Robert G. Kerr in 1957 and promptly moving with him to Virginia when he served in the United States Army.  She worked as a reporter and later editor for the Amarillo Globe-News, overseeing the publication of two daily editions of what was first called the Society section, then the Women’s Page, and later the Lifestyle section as the role and contributions of women evolved and were recognized.
After leaving the newspaper, she worked at the United Way of Amarillo, the newly established Amarillo Psychiatric Pavilion, Plains Machinery, and later as a corporate officer for Pioneer Corporation where she represented the company when it was listed on the United States Stock Exchange.
She and Bob were longtime leaders and assisted to establish the Amarillo Zoological and Botanical Gardens and was involved in the creation of the Helium Monument in Amarillo.
She held numerous leadership positions with local, state, and national organizations.
An active Democratic, she was a fervent supporter of President Lyndon Baines Johnson and Texas Governor John Connally.
She had the skill to rapidly type out newspaper and magazine articles, press releases, and corporate reports using two fingers on a manual typewriter while holding a smoldering cigarette. She firmly resisted advances in technology, shunning first the electric typewriter and later word processors (now known as computers).  She had outstanding penmanship and when her grandchildren were young, she delighted them with illustrated envelopes holding letters of pride and encouragement.
Judith was as comfortable sitting on the loading dock of the Amarillo Globe-News smoking a cigarette and shooting the breeze with the pressmen of the newspaper as she was mixing and mingling with society’s elite from the local country clubs to events in Austin, New York City, and Washington, D.C.
She wanted to make sure her children, niece, and grandchildren could hold their own in social settings, drilling into them the proper way to set a table with fine china and crystal and silverware and which forks, spoons, and knives to use at the appropriate times and to always have a napkin in the lap.
At her family Christmas brunches, and when those skills could be employed, they were highly anticipated annual events during which many memories were created around sliced grapefruits, mounds of scrambled eggs, bacon, hams, turkeys, green bean casseroles, and candied yams.
She was the self-appointed keeper of family history and frequently told tales that may have on occasion been embellished or tweaked to put the family in the best possible light.
Always an optimist, every year she bought pots of geraniums to liven up her yard, and every year they succumbed to neglect.
She was the selfless go-to person who cared for numerous family members in their last days, making sure their needs were met and that they knew they were loved.  She was excessively generous of time, talent, and treasure.
While proud of the many professional accomplishments she notched over her lifetime, she felt extraordinarily blessed by a life well lived and a loving family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister-in-law, Sondra Currie, and a niece, Kim Currie Deckard.
Mrs. Kerr leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Katherine Kerr Kubatzky, and her husband, Tim Kubatzky, of Georgetown, and Sherry Kerr Forbes, of Amarillo, a brother, Jim Sumner and his wife Susie Sumner of Sonoita, Arizona, a sister, Robin Gantz of Amarillo, a brother-in-law Jim Currie and his wife Jeanie of Amarillo, five grandchildren, Melissa McAnally Whitaker and her husband, Jake Whitaker, of Amarillo, Corey Kubatzky and his wife, Lavenna Kubatzky, of Colorado Springs, Erin Kubatzky of Austin, Lindsay Kubatzky of Washington, D. C., and Sarah Forbes of Amarillo, three great-grandchildren, Kenzie Whitaker and Carson Whitaker of Amarillo, and Calvin Kubatzky of Colorado Springs, by six nieces and nephews, fourteen great-nieces and nephews, five great-great nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was a fiercely proud woman, wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and will be missed.
The family asks in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to BSA Hospice of The Southwest, 5211 Southwest 9th Avenue, Suite 100, Amarillo, Texas 79106, phone number 806-356-0026, in memory of Mrs. Judith Katherine Kerr. Please sign the On-Line Guest Book at www.warfordmortuary.com
