Obituary Preview: Edith Julia Watts, 75 of Midland, died Tuesday evening, January 9, 2018 at her home. She was born February 21, 1942 in Lansing, one of a family of ten, the daughter of the late Harry and Julia Elaine (Pifer) Cotton.
She is survived by her sons: Arthur Edward Grove, Jr. of Lansing, William Harry (Vickie) Grove of Potterville, Matthew Irving (Lisa) Grove, Eric Wayne Watts all of Midland; and daughters Theresa Angela Grove of Midland and Bambi Lynn Grove-Simpson of Shepherd; eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Arthur Edward Grove, Sr. and Wayne Taylor Watts.

Obituary Preview: Bernadine Ann Case, 95, of Midland, died at Brookdale Memory Care in Midland on January 8, 2018. She was born March 12, 1922 in Detroit, MI to the late Harley and Litta Sonnanstine. Bernadine married Robert Case June 17, 1944 in Montgomery, Alabama while Robert was serving his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Force.
Bernadine is survived by her brother, Charles (Esther) Sonnanstine of Brooksville, Florida; her daughter, Nancy (Ralph) Kyro of Midland, Michigan; son, Scott Case of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren Jeffrey (Allison) Kyro of Midland, Michigan, Kimberly (Stephen) Bello of Portland, Oregon, and Stacy (Benjamin) Reaoch of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. She will be greatly missed by her great grandchildren, Natalie, Lilly, Kelton, Caleb, Ian, Nia, Julia (deceased), Milania, Noah, Annalyse, Micah and her special niece, Kathryn (John) Mathey.
Bernadine's family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale and Grace Hospice for all their love, care and compassion for Bernadine and our family.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday January 12, 2018 from the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street, with Reverend Leonard Clevenger of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Bernadine’s family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Internment will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 13th at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Michigan.

Obituary Preview: Marie L. Evans, 92, of Midland, died Sunday January 7, 2018 at the MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland. She was born August 14, 1925 in St. Louis, Michigan, daughter of the late Dennis and Iva (Palmer) Robinson and was a graduate of St. Louis High School. On November 4, 1944 she was married to Lee Evans in St. Louis, Michigan. He predeceased her September 26, 2001. Mrs. Evans was employed at the Dow Chemical Company for over thirty years retiring 1982. She was an active member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Midland. Spending time with her daughters and being with her family was very important in her life. Her favorite enjoyments was cooking, quilting, sewing, and knitting.
Surviving are her two daughters, Judy Suderman and her husband Ron of Midland; and Vickie Evans of Romulus; two grandchildren and their spouses, Phil and Renee Suderman of Auburn; and Darcie and Jonathan Van Dop of San Antonio, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Jaclyn, Adelyn and Nicholas, and many friends and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Marie was predeceased by her only sister, Irene Stowers.

Obituary Preview: Robert William Yeoman, 56, of Midland, died unexpectedly Saturday, January 6, 2018. He was born December 20, 1961 in Midland, son of Madeleine (St. Aubin) Yeoman and the late Thomas Yeoman. Robert met the former JoAnne Landwehr while they were in Junior High. The two were married July 23, 1983 and spent 35 wonderful years together. He spent his working career in the printing business with 24 years being employed by McKay Press. Robert enjoyed playing the bass guitar and even spent some time in a band. He also had fun fishing, woodworking, watching races, and his beloved football. More than anything, Robert was a family man and spent as much time as he could with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Robert is survived by his wife JoAnne Yeoman; children Jason (Lupe) Yeoman, Jessica Adkins, Benjamin Yeoman, Robert Drew (Simone Elise) Yeoman, and Hunter Yeoman; and grandchildren Jonathon Yeoman, Casey Yeoman, Amaia Yeoman, Riley Adkins, Aubree Adkins, Rihanna Yeoman, and Ashlynn Yeoman. He is also survived by his mother Madeleine Yeoman; brother Mike Yeoman; sisters Rosemary Robacker and Ethel Snyder; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his father Thomas, Robert was preceded in death by his sister Yvonne.

Jeffrey “Jeff” Lee Fischer - April 30, 1947 - January 05, 2018

Obituary Preview: Jeffrey “Jeff” Lee Fischer, 70 years of Midland, died Friday morning, January 5, 2018 at his home after an illness. Jeff was born on April 30, 1947 in Saginaw, son of the late Donald and Lois (Yancer) Fischer.
He attended schools in Royal Oak and graduated from Dondero High School there where he played football. He also graduated from Northwood University with a BA degree in business. Jeff enjoyed golfing and teaching golf at Currie Golf Course where he was the club Pro. He also received his PGA certification. Jeff was an active bowler in the Midland area for many years, and had worked at the Midland and Circle Bowling Lanes for Ed Gibson. He also worked at the Dow Corning Corporation for 16 years as an operator, retiring in 2005. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports (especially Golf) and greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Jeff married Kathy (Lund) Gordert on April 23, 1988 in Shields and would have celebrated their 30th anniversary in April.
He is survived by his wife; Kathy, one son; Jason (Julie) Gordert of Sanford, one daughter; Carrie (Ryan) Johnson of Midland, one sister; Julie Mills of Kentucky. Also surviving are grandchildren, Ryan and Angela Sparks, Kala Sparks, Cody and Katie Sparks, Chris and Ana Sparks, Ashlyn Gordert and Hazel Johnson, by 8 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Jeff was a wonderful loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa and will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents Jeff was preceded in death by one brother; David Fischer.

Obituary Preview: Alice Marie Florey was born and passed away on January 4, 2018 in the presence of her parents and medical staff at MidMichigan Health.
She was born at 5:03 PM, weighing 6 pounds 1 ounce and 19 3/4 inches long. Alice was perfect and sweet, having dark brown eyes at birth and cute tufts of hair in a color we cannot decide. Alice's feet look just like Charley's and the only obvious visible symptom of her diagnosis was an adorable 6th finger on her left hand, which makes her parents sure she was made to be left-handed. Against doctors' predictions she survived a near-term pregnancy and survived labor. Alice was lost during delivery. She is the answer to her parents prayers, as they waited for her birth with joyful expectation.
She is survived by her parents, Charley and Elly Florey; her brother Logan Florey; her grandparents Charley and Marsha Florey, Casey Maxwell, and Kim and Roxane Talbot; her great-grandparents Roland and Marie Bliesener; her Aunts Erin (Matt) Royalty, Emily (Nick) Shaffer, Jessica (Devon) Wilson, and Erin Evans; cousins Linden and Kennedy Royalty and Wyatt and Sawyer Shaffer; and many more cousins, great-aunts, great-uncles, family and friends.
Elly and Charley would like to thank the incredible staff at MidMichigan Health for the compassionate and brilliant care received, especially from their doctors (Dr. Kroll, Dr. Rao, and Dr. Sawaya) and their nurses (Misty, Jessica, Kathy, Kim, Autumn, Sara, and Becky).

Obituary Preview: William James Schneider, 24, died unexpectedly on January 3rd, 2018. He was born in Midland on August 19th, 1993. He attended Midland High school where he played lacrosse. After high school, Billy worked in the family business at 3-S Construction. He loved learning the trade. Busting up concrete and pouring “mud” with his cousin was where he found a purpose.
Billy spent his time off gaming with friends on-line. His PS4 was his way to melt the time away. He was also a voracious reader and could spend a day and night tearing through a book that he couldn’t put down. Billy loved spending time vacationing with friends and family on Walloon Lake in Northern Michigan. One of Billy’s favorite activities was spending quality, fun time with his niece and nephew.
He will be sorely missed by his parents William Schneider and Mary Burnett; Camie and Kevin Spencer; siblings Kristin (Stephen) Johnson, Katherine Schneider, Shannon Spencer and Andrew Spencer. His nephew Elijah and nieces Olivia and baby Frances, will miss their “Uncle Blue” and the funny and loving times he spent with them. He was preceded in death by his niece Audrina and his “brother” John.
Funeral Services will take place on Tuesday, January 9th at Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 West Wheeler Street at 11 am. Visitation will take place on Monday, January 8th from 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm. On the day of the funeral, the families will have a visitation at 10 am until the start of the service.

He was born December 24, 1935 in Isabella County, the twelfth child of the late Roy D. and Halliette K. (Shanahan) Bullard. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School, and honorably served in the United States Marine Corps for four years. On September 3, 1960 he married the former Mary Ellen Mogg in Coleman. Ed worked for CSX Railroad for over thirty years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of the Midland Elks Lodge 1610, and a member of the Community of Christ Church. Ed was a generous and loving man who enjoyed shopping and loved his grandchildren.
He will be missed by his wife of fifty-seven years, Mary Ellen; children, Ed (Jerilyn) Bullard of Midland, and Gina M. (Vince) Anderson of Midland; grandchildren, Nichole (Anthony) Iacovoni of Livonia, Stacey Bullard and her fiance Alex Hopp of Austin, Texas, Colin M.B. (Kaely) Hopkins serving with the US Navy in Port Hueneme, California, Paige Anderson of Midland, and Katrina Anderson of Midland. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, and four sisters.

Obituary Preview: Nancy Marie (Speaker) May 60, of Midland, died early Monday morning, January 1, 2018 at the MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland. She was born November 27, 1957 in Midland, daughter of Ida (Olson) Speaker of Midland and the late Jack Speaker. Nancy was a 1976 graduate of H.H. Dow High School. On September 8, 1978 she married Patrick May of Midland. Against all odds due to Nancy’s health they had their only child Michael.
Nancy was a severe diabetic since early childhood. Anyone that knew Nancy, knew of her health struggles but also knew that her disease never slowed her down. Spending time with her family and cooking for everyone, anytime was at the top of her enjoyment list. But being able to spend time with her grandsons (Carson and Gavin) and sharing her love of cooking and baking with them is what she truly cherished. Her grandsons were her pride and joy.
Nancy was employed for twenty-five years as a waitress at the Holiday Inn in Midland and held the position of Head Captain at Justine’s and Caf Edwards. Working as a waitress was something she thoroughly enjoyed. Being the social butterfly Nancy was, waitressing allowed her to meet many people. Nancy never met a stranger that she didn't become fast friends with. Her smile and lightheartedness along with her pranks and joking made it difficult to not be happy when Nancy was around.
Surviving in addition to her mother, Ida is her son Michael (Shannon) May of Midland; grandsons, Carson and Gavin May, and her sister, Barbara June Speaker of San Francisco, CA; Her father, Jack Speaker and her brother, Lorin Speaker both predeceased her.

He was born April 21, 1938 in Oroville, California, son of the late Howard and Kathleen (Fishtorn) Blanck. After graduating from Midland High School, Carl enlisted in the United States Army. Upon his discharge from his military obligation, Carl went to work for Chrysler in the Detroit area. He spent 20 years living in North Carolina before moving back to Midland 3 years ago. Carl enjoyed fishing and was an avid auto enthusiast.
He is survived by his daughter Debbie of Midland, brother Keith (Janine) Blanck of Midland, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his daughter Dawn and his sister Cheryl Muller. The family wishes to acknowledge Colonial Villa for providing Carl with a home and family environment for the last three years. The family also wishes to thank Hometown Hospice for their recent care.

He owned his own restoration shop, Euler Restoration for 27 years where he restored rare Mustangs, Boss 429’s, Boss 302’s and Shelby’s. He loved bear hunting with his dogs, wife, son, and friends, trapping, hunting bobcat, fishing, playing Black Jack, riding motorcycles, going to Las Vegas, car shows, and skydiving. He loved spending time with his wife, son, grandchildren, family, and friends. Martin and his wife Pam worked on their new adventure together which was their motel up in St. Ignace.
Martin is survived by his wife Pam, son Martin Jr., grandchildren Ariana and Ben, two sisters Bonnie (Scott) Barrett of Ithaca, Lynette (Kevin) Adgate of Hastings, three brothers Edwin (Lorie) Euler of Georgia, Jamie Euler of Wheeler, and Floyd Euler also of Wheeler, many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews. Charles 'Bud' Burch - November 04, 1928 - December 25, 2017

Obituary Preview: Charles “Bud” Burch, 89, of Midland, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2017 at the MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland. He was born November 4, 1928 in Midland, son of the late Charles and Esther (Klumpp) Burch. On April 14, 1951 he married the former Venida Bartow at Trinity Lutheran Church in Midland. Bud retired from Dow Chemical in 1986 after 40 years of service. He was an avid Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions fan, and had been a coach/volunteer for many years in Southtown Little League. Mornings found Bud starting his day with coffee at McDonalds and Big Boy and later playing cards at the American Legion Post 165 and in Sanford. Bud had been a member of the Studley Grange. Bud enjoyed his years with the Studley Grange especially working with his wife Venida and other members in the kitchen during the county fair. He and Venida spent many years travelling to Florida, and following their grandchildren and great grandchildren’s various activities.
Bud is survived by his children: daughters, Brenda Bovear of Sanford, and Carol (Rick) Bergstein of Midland, and his son, Brian (Denise) Burch of Midland; grandchildren: Nick (Wendi) Bovear, Kali (Travis) McKenna, Jessica Bergstein and friend: Chris Strayer, Brittany (Drew) O’Keefe, Brett (Alexandra) Burch, Lerrin (Nicole Militello) Bergstein and Rebecca Burch and friend: David Sexton; great grandchildren: Ethan Bergstein, Madisyn Smith, Harper O’Keefe, Brayden Robinson and Brooklyn O’Keefe. He is also survived by brothers-in-law: David (Ginny) Bartow, John Coppens, by several nieces and nephews and by special friend and neighbor Judy Smith. In addition to his parents Bud was preceded in death by his wife Venida Burch, a sister Betty Titus, one son-in-law Bruce Bovear; two grandchildren, Bruce Bovear, Jr. and Bridgette Bovear.

Olive attended Coleman schools and graduated from Coleman High School in 1932. Olive was raised by her grandmother Mary Ann Finney and aunt Cora Finney after her mother died when she was five years old. The former Olive Finney married Byron Herbert Deitsch on June 14, 1935. Herb died in 1978. Olive was a 4-H leader for 70 years. She worked as the 4-H program assistant for 10 years. Olive loved working with kids. She was an active member of the Mt. Haley Church of God for many years and made many nightgowns to sell at bazaars. Olive was a charter member of the Bishop Home Extension Group. Olive has traveled to over 34 countries.
She is survived by two daughters; Marianne Drayton, and Diane (Harry) Andrews, sisters-in-law; Luella Finney, and Willa Finney, grandchildren; Scott (Jennifer) Lux, Jeremy (Amy) Lux, Kelly Drayton, Rebecca (Scott Beebe) Drayton, Heather (Thomas Shirilla) Drayton, Byronna (Craig) Brydon, Harry James (Jison) Andrews II, Kristen (James) Nevison, William (Carin) Bishop, and Shawn Bishop, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great- grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband, Olive was preceded in death by two daughters; Sally (Benjamin) Lux and Linda Kraus. Richard Rathsack - Unknown - December 23, 2017

Obituary Preview: Richard Rathsack, 80 of Midland, died Saturday, December 23, 2017 at his home. Born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, the son of Florence and Daniel R. Rathsack, Richard moved to Ludington, Michigan at a young age and lived there until his graduation from Saint Simon’s High School in 1955. After graduating from the University of Dayton, he was hired by Dow Chemical and moved to Midland, Michigan. It was in Midland where he met his wife of almost 56 years, Patricia Apostle. The two shared many laughs as Richard was quick-witted and had a wonderful sense of humor. They also shared their love of sports, particularly skiing, honeymooning in Mont-Tremblant, Quebec. Richard and Patricia instilled their love of sports in their children and Richard was a formidable opponent for his sons through the years. Richard enjoyed watching his children participate in both youth and college sports and spent time as a coach, as the president of the Midland High Boosters, president of the Adray Hockey Association, and Northeast Little league. While leading a life of service to his community, he was also very social and spent many weekends at his cottage in Higgins Lake. As a lifelong learner and seeker of intelligent conversation, Richard cherished his participation in the Midland Metaphysical Society and his work as a Patent Chemist.
In 2002, following his retirement from Dow after 41 years, he and Patricia moved back to Richard’s cherished Ludington. Never one to sit idle and always a hard worker, he spent his time in retirement picking berries, planting trees, working in the yard, reading, watching the car ferry, golfing with his friends at Lincoln Hills, planning reunions with his high school classmates, and co-authoring a book. Continuously service-minded and an ardent advocate for preserving the history of Ludington, Richard was at one time a board member of the White Pine Village and later served on the Ludington City Council. His favorite retirement activity was taking long walks with his wife Patricia.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Florence (Schuber) and Daniel R. Rathsack and sister-in-law Agnes Rathsack. He is survived by his wife Patricia (Apostle); sons Matthew (Theresa) Rathsack of Marysville, Peter (Carolyn) Rathsack of Tecumseh, and Christopher (Stephanie) Rathsack of Hudsonville; grandchildren Zachary, Jessica, Maria, Angella, Elizabeth, Bridget, Peter, John, Nicholas, R. J.; three great-grandchildren; brothers Tom Rathsack of Grand Blanc and Jerry (Pat) Rathsack of Greendale, WI; brother-in-law Ron (Linda) Apostle of Orient, NY; sister-in-law Sharyn (Doug) Bean of Boyne City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: Keith L. Yoder, 72, of Midland, died Sunday, December 17, 2017 at his home. He was born February 22, 1945 in Midland, son of the late Edgar and Emma (Shantz) Yoder. Keith was a 1963 graduate of Midland High School. On May 11, 1968, he married the former Sharon Illas at Trinity Lutheran Church. She survives him. He had been employed as a pipefitter for over 25 years with the Local Union 85 in Saginaw. After his retirement he owned and operated Keith’s towing for many years. Keith was a skilled mechanic and enjoyed working on classic cars. He also enjoyed going to classic car shows with his wife and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Sharon of 49 years, sister-in-law Diane (Ron Watt) Durfee; sister Carol (Robert) Herman and many nieces, nephews and special friends. In addition to his parents, Keith was preceded in death by his brothers Jackie Yoder and Karl Yoder and sister Audry Heatwole.

He was born November 3, 1940 in Midland, son of the late A.D. and Coral (Amidon) Ordway. Frank married the former Pauline Johnson September 12, 1959 in Midland. He enlisted in the US Army, attending basic training in Fort Leonardwood Missouri in 1959. He retired after 21 years of service in 1980. Frank was hired at Hemlock Semi-Conductor as a Millwright in 1981 and retired in 2001. He enjoyed playing and watching many sports including baseball and football. Frank played fast pitch softball during his military career as a pitcher with noted highlights being striking out baseball great Bobby Murcer while stationed in Ft. Huachuca, AZ and pitching for the Frankfurt travel team in Frankfurt Germany. He enjoyed bowling, wood working, painting, and challenging his family at card and trivia games. He loved family cookouts and playing golf, croquet, trampoline volleyball, and many other outdoor games.
Frank is survived by his wife Pauline Ordiway of Midland; children Andrea Garrison of Warrenton, VA, Vyonne (Jeff) Coufal of Forney, TX, Francine (Randy) Brandt of Midland, and Nancy (Arthur) Laur of Barryton; grandchildren Austin Coufal, Hannah (Ryan) Glasgow, Joshua Brandt, Christopher Ordiway, Joel Brandt, Amanda Saylor, Joel (Odalys) Saylor, Mary Laur, Joyce (Patrick) Demo, Bill (Hillary) Laur, and Beth Laur; and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Jim (Jean) Ordiway of Pinconning, Ruthie (Jerry) Johnston of Midland, Dean (CeCe) Ordiway of DeFuniak Springs, FL, and Carl (Barb) Ordway; sister-in-law Elizabeth Ordiway of Alger; and brother-in-law Ray Johnson of Midland. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death his son Frank “Frankie” Ordiway Jr., brother William Ordiway, and sister Nancy Johnson.

Surviving are her children, Bert Atwood, Robert Atwood, Barry Atwood, and Barbara (James) Kosinski; grandchildren, Heather (Patrick) Lauer, Kelly (Gus) Pries, Tara (Mark) Belfield, Katie Atwood, and Lisa (Nate) Brown; great grand-children Maggie Brown, Clara Brown, Ava Marie Pries, and Cole Pries; sister Helen Anderson and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by her brothers and sisters Lee Simon, Sophie Meyer, John Bangert, Mary Bangert, George Bangert, Jake Bangert, and Bertha McGuiness.

He was born September 25, 1938 in Midland, son of the late Percy and Rose (Wirtz) Warren. Dan attended schools in Midland graduating from Midland High School in 1957. He was employed by The Dow Chemical Company for nearly 30 years. Dan was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping with his family, fishing, gathering firewood, and riding around his 20 acres on his quad. He spent years raising horses and other farm animals and was a hobby gardener. On the occasion Dan would leave his farm, it would be to spend time with family, good friends, or to “make the deal” on the collectable he’d been watching. He was an avid reader and was always up on current events. He loved to have a good conversation about anything and would “hold court” wherever people gathered giving advice to anyone in need. There was no denying he was the life of the party and loved to have a good time.
Dan is survived by his children Paul (Anne) Warren, Wendy (Tony) Lewis, and Rick Warren; grandchildren Brittany Lewis, Nicola Lewis, Danielle Lewis, Mark Warren, and Nathaniel Warren; siblings Larry (Patricia) Warren, Dennis Warren, Harriet Brady, and Margaret Williams. In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his son Marc, brothers Tom Warren, Dick Warren, Jack Warren, and Jim Warren, as well as sisters Helen Nold and Florence Roth.

Their romance began in post WWII Pforzheim, Germany where H.O. served proudly in the 399th infantry regiment of the 100th Combat Division. H.O. was awarded numerous medals including the bronze star and Knight of the Legion of Honor as bestowed by the French government. H.O. is also survived by his son Steve M. Smith (Theresa) of Grand Rapids, MI., four grandchildren; Melanie Nelson, Nichole Chuchvara (Jon), David A.O. Smith and Kyle D Smith (Kristen) and five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Heidi Nelson. H.O. was an avid woodworker and craftsman. Many of his projects are proudly displayed by his family. He served 25 years as a chemist for Dow Chemical. Per his wishes a cremation memorial service for H.O. will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 2 p.m. from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 West Wheeler Street, Midland. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.

He is survived by his wife Linda of Midland, daughter Julie (Anthony) Wilcox of South Bend, IN and daughter-in-law Amy Kellogg of Sanford; grandchildren Ethan Wilcox, Emily and Ryan Kellogg. In addition to his parents, Bert was preceded in death by his son James Kellogg on January 26, 2015 and five sisters Jan Gray, Dorothy Williams, Peg Ireland, Merrie Huckins, and Muriel Kellogg.
