Obituary Preview: Robert Lewis Caswell died peacefully on May 13, 2024. He spent almost 93 years with us, born to his parents Earl and Josephine (Tailford) Caswell on May 20, 1931. Bob had a love of the outdoors and athletics. He played football for Swanton High School, where he graduated from in 1949. After graduating, he went right to work for his father’s business, Earl’s Auto Parts, and eventually ran the business. After retirement from the family business, “Bob worked nine years in the maintenance department for the Village of Holland.” In grade school, he met the love of his life, Carol Reno, and on June 8, 1949, the childhood sweethearts were wed, enjoying almost 75 years together. Family and hard work were at the core of Bob’s identity, but he also enjoyed gardening, hunting Morrel mushrooms, bowling, golf, Ohio State Football, and all Cleveland sporting teams. He excelled at oval track racing in his younger years; and was even a shuffleboard champion!

Food held a special place in Bob’s heart. He could eat just about anything! His favorites were a good steak and any homemade dessert he could find.

Preceding in death were his parents; brothers, Earl “Sonny” Caswell Jr., and Richard Caswell; children, Robert Caswell Jr., and Debra Jones.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carol (Reno) Caswell; children, Charles (Cindy) Caswell, Linda (Jesse) Limon, Lizabeth (Rob) Conboy, 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister Florence Wyman, son-in-law, Jim Jones, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A visitation will be held at Walker Funeral Home, Springfield-Holland Chapel (7438 Airport Hwy.) on Monday, May 20, 2024, from 4 pm – 8 pm. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Our Lady of Lourdes (6149 Hill Ave.) at 11 am with an hour of visiting beginning at 10 am. Interment will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.

Barbara had an immense love for her family, finding joy in spending time with them. Known for her passion for crocheting, she often crafted pieces for her loved ones. A devout Christian, Barbara found solace in reading her Bible and attending church services. Her eyes would light up as she shared stories of her childhood in the hills of Kentucky, painting vivid pictures of days gone by.

Obituary Preview: Donna Marie Gillen passed away on April 24, 2024, at Fulton County Health Manor under the care of Hospice. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on May 15, 1943, to Amelia (Lofay) Henry. Donna graduated from Swanton high school. She married her high school sweetheart Thomas Joseph Gillen, June 24,1961. After getting married Donna fostered children thru Catholic Charities before having three of her own to raise. When the boys got older, she went to work at Westgate Laboratory of Pathology and Holly Glen Nursing home. Donna and Thomas both worked together at Town Center Place in Ypsilanti and Farmington Place Farmington, both in Michigan managing the complex together. After Thomas retired, he had an accident that rendered him handicapped for the rest of his life. Donna became his caregiver until his sudden death last year. She loved cooking and baking many things. She enjoyed camping, playing cards, reading poetry, watching movies, and Chinese food. She served as a Eucharistic Minister for shut ins at OLL for many years until Thomas became disabled, she also assisted in cleaning OLL church.

She is survived by sons, Terrance A Gillen (Deb Campbell), Anthony M Gillen (Terri Lynn); grandsons, Mark W Beebe II (Tiffany) and Nicholas S Gillen, great-grandsons, Ashton Beebe and Lukas Beebe. Brother-in-law, Patrick Gillen (Delores) and family. Brother, Anthony Viertleboeck, sister, Louella Strong, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and first-born son, Gary P Gillen (Brenda Carpenter) and husband, Thomas Joseph Gillen, and brothers, Donald Henry and Duane Henry.

Visitation for Donna will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes, 6149 Hill Ave at 9am on Saturday May 4, 2024. Memorial service will follow at 10am.

Obituary Preview: Pamela Joyce Butler passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 24, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Pam was born on March 20, 1956 to Thomas Sr. and Myrtle Butler in Toledo, Ohio. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1974.

Pam proudly served her community for 30 years with the Lucas County Sheriff’s Department. She retired in 2014 as a Sergeant and head of security at the Toledo Municipal Court building. Her service in her community did not end when she retired. Pam used her time to cultivate a large vegetable garden so she could donate the produce to those in need. She also volunteered weekly at the Our Lady of Lourdes Hospitality Kitchen, cooking and serving meals. In addition, she volunteered as a Stephen Minister with Epiphany Lutheran Church to provide Christ-centered care to people who are hurting.

Pam was an avid watcher of youth sports, as long as one of her great nieces or great nephews was on the team. You could always catch her in the bleachers cheering loudly in support of those kids. She did her best to attend every dance recital and school music performance as well.

Whether you knew her as Sergeant Butler, Pam, Pammy, or P, you knew you were dealing with a kind, caring, giving person of the highest moral character. She had a great sense of humor, a heart for service, was incredibly organized and was terrible at math. Any time spent with her was well spent and she will be missed terribly by those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Myrtle Butler and her brother Charles Butler Sr. She is survived by her siblings Lila Schmidt (Charles Morehead), Thomas Butler Jr. (Cookie), David Butler (Grace), Christine Mills (John), Jeffery Butler (Deborah), many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Parkcliffe Memory Care Community and Residential Hospice for their wonderful, loving care of Pam.

Visitation will take place at Holland-Springfield Walker Funeral Home on Sunday April 28, 2024 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at Epiphany Lutheran Church on Monday at 11 AM.

Mamie Bell - September 29, 1933 - April 21, 2024

Obituary Preview: Mamie Bell, 90, of Toledo, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024. She was born in Cross City, FL on September 29, 1933, to Willie and Emma (Hall) Anderson. Mamie married Oscar Lee Bell on August 5, 1950 in Valdosta, Georgia. They remained in holy matrimony until his death on March 15, 1988. Mamie was the matriarch of the family, having two daughters, JoAnne and MarJean, and three grandchildren.

She knew what she wanted and worked hard to achieve her goals. She became a member of First Church of God in 1988 under Bishop Robert Culp and Pastor Eric Von Butler. Mamie was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lady Esther Chapter 72. Mamie retired from Department 121 at Jeep after working there for over 20 years.

Throughout her life, Mamie enjoyed traveling and sightseeing. Gardening and playing the slot machines were some of her favorite hobbies, as well as catching up with friends and family whenever she could. She also loved to cook her favorite foods and dance the night away. Mamie loved playing with her great-granddogs: Vivian, Aria, and Meroe. Mamie was determined, outgoing, thoughtful, independent, compassionate, generous, funny, friendly, persistent, caring, brave, and strong-willed.

Mamie leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, JoAnne Bell-Carr and MarJean (Bell) Releford; her three grandchildren, Cinnamon J. Carr, Roy M. Releford III, and Jasmine D. Releford; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Oscar Lee Bell; sister, Johnnie Mae Hendrix; her parents Willie and Emma Anderson; son-in-law, Roy M. Releford, Jr.; and cherished cousin, Ruby Sallet, who was her partner in crime.

Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, beginning at 4 pm at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, OH, until the time of Celebration of Life Service at 5 pm. Memorial donations in Mamie’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The family wishes to thank Mamie’s doctors who took special care of her in her last years: Dr. Richard Phinney, Dr. Todd Francis and his care navigator Marilyn Antonini, and Dr. Shevan Matto. Obituary Preview: Willa Ruth (Billups) Kulicke was born November 25, 1942, in Columbus, OH. Willa was one of eight children born to James Lawson Billups and Ruth Mae (Keesee) Billups. She married Klaus-Dieter Herbert Kulicke on March 21, 1964, and they recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. They raised three daughters together: Dietra, Lisa, and Vicky.

Willa is preceded in death by both parents, her beloved husband Dieter, her siblings Isabelle (Billups) and Don Whisman, Maggie and Allen Billups, Ella Mae (Billups) Higgenbotham, LeRoy Bugger, Jimmy Billups, Danny Billups, Dennis Paul Billups, and great-grandson, Canaan Kulicke.

Willa is survived by her sister Pekah Faye (Billups) Bugger, sister-in-law Robin Billups, her children Dietra Kulicke and Gary Laun, Lisa (Kulicke) and Frank Dopkiss, Vicky Kulicke and Ezell Grigsby, her grandchildren Emily (Kulicke) and Colin Nolan, Klaus Alexander and Kate Kulicke, Madison Dopkiss, Michael Dopkiss, Olivia Dopkiss and Steven Hartnagel, Anthony Grigsby, Gabrielle Dopkiss and Sophia Grigsby, bonus daughter Debbie Huff, great-grandchildren Lilliana, Everleigh and Klaus Rylan Kulicke, Stella and Piper Nolan, and Rain and Bowie Hartnagel.

Willa always demonstrated a powerful work ethic, having grown up contributing on her family’s farm, and later, working at the Pennsylvania railroad, the Brunswick Library, and Bowling Green State University. But the position she was most proud to hold was that of a mother and grandmother. The newborn stage was Willa’s favorite. She had a unique ability to nurture and comfort her babies and shared that special gift with all of her children and grandchildren.

Willa loved Barry Manilow, margaritas, desserts, shopping, Christmastime and cuddling. Her family fondly remembers her many delicious dishes and meal traditions, including fondue, stuffed cabbage, her famous mashed potatoes, German pancakes, and homemade pickles. She was warm and engaging and enjoyed hosting friends and family. She adored the many, many pets her and Dieter had throughout their sixty years together. Willa was steadfast in her beliefs, a force to be reckoned with, and inspired all her girls to become strong, independent women.

A celebration of life for both Willa and Dieter, who passed on March 27th, 2024, is being planned for this summer.

She was born in Toledo to James and Jeanne (Glowski) Bethel on June 28, 1968. Her father was in the Army, so Lara and her brother had some big moves in their childhood. She lived in Georgia until the age of 12 and then spent 7 years in Germany where she graduated from Mannheim High School. After moving to the Toledo area, Lara began her career in the medical field as a nurse’s aide and then became an EEG Technician. Her favorite past times included reading and going to garage sales with her mother. Never pass up a good deal! She was a generous soul who adored her family, especially her nephews. Lara had a caring heart and loved her dog, Zoey.

She is survived by her brother, Matt (Becky) Bethel; nephews, Benjamin and Luke Bethel; and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving parents.

Friends will be received on Saturday, April 13, 2024, beginning at 10 a.m. at Holland Free Methodist Church, 66050 Angola Road, Holland, where the Memorial Service will begin at 11 a.m. Lara will be laid to rest privately in Springfield Township Cemetery.

Barbara Mae Roznoski - September 03, 1940 - April 09, 2024

Obituary Preview: Barbara Mae (Hites) Roznoski died at home on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, among family. She was born to Irvin and Gladys (Ruhl) Hites in Toledo, OH on September 3, 1940. She attended Nathan Hale Elementary School and graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1958.

Barbara was working at the A&P grocery store where she met a coworker, Ralph Roznoski, whom she married on January 16, 1960. They lived in the Polish Village in north Toledo and were members of St. Hedwig Catholic Parish. She devoted herself to being a homemaker, taking care of her family, sewing clothes for her young children, and canning or freezing fruits and vegetables from their gardens. Their home was a hangout for the neighborhood kids, and she treated them like her own.

They liked to participate in couples’ bowling leagues, play cards with friends, and spend time with family. Once most of the family was grown, they moved to Holland, OH in 1987 where they remained, and attended Our Lady of Lourdes Church. They enjoyed traveling, taking cruises to Jamaica, Bermuda, and the Bahamas, and visiting other warm places.

Barbara had many other interests. She was an avid reader, and also liked to paint ceramics, crochet, and bake Polish coffee cakes. Many of the things she created were gifted to family and friends. She joined a women’s bowling league with friends, played Bunco for many years, and worked at polling stations for various elections. She also drove her friends to doctor’s appointments when they could no longer drive themselves. She had a large extended family and enjoyed attending reunions over the years.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Gladys (Ruhl) Hites, brothers; Allen “Lynn” Hites, and William Hites, husband Ralph, and son Paul. She is survived by daughters; Deborah (Mark) Many and Sharon (Randy) Seed, sons; Philip, David (Jodi), Eric, Steven (Donna), and Mark (Robyn), grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers Edwin “Dean” (Rose) Hites and Irvin “Larry” Hites, several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law from Ralph’s family, and many nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation or funeral. Burial arrangements are private. Walker Holland Springfield Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Obituary Preview: James R. Amstutz, 77, of Toledo, OH passed away on Easter morning March 31, 2024, after complications following a medical procedure. He was born on April 24, 1946, to Carl and Loretta (Dudley) Amstutz. Jim grew up in Toledo where he attended Central Catholic High School, was a member of the 1962 State Championship football team and was All-City as an offensive tackle. He continued his education at the University of Toledo and was a member of the 1967 MAC Championship football team. Jim’s work as a commercial kitchen installer took him all over Europe including Germany, Ireland and eventually England where he met his future wife, Christina. They ultimately moved back to the States and settled in Bloomington, Indiana. Jim had an eclectic spirit, a passion for all the arts, loved classical music and was an excellent artist. His paintings adorn the walls of many friends and family members. He enjoyed writing short stories and even took creative writing classes at Indiana University well into his sixties. Jim touched many lives and was always quick with a joke or amusing story that left everyone he met with a smile and laugh. He will be dearly missed and always remembered.

Jim was preceded in death by his siblings Marilou (Amstutz) Kasparian, Joe Amstutz, Dick Amstutz and his wife Christina (Deegan) whom he lovingly cared for until her passing. He is survived by his four sons Doug, Tom, Steve and Jamie Amstutz. He is also survived by his three grandchildren Elijah, Carter and Christian Amstutz; his brother Mike (Joyce) and many nieces and nephews who loved him. There are no services at this time; a celebration of his life will be held at a future date.

Born on April 24, 1967, Debra touched countless lives during her career as an LPN and then a RN. Her unwavering commitment to caring for others was evident in her tireless work at the Fulton County Health Center Emergency Department and Spring Meadows Nursing and Rehab Center. Debra’s compassion and expertise brought comfort to patients and their families during their most vulnerable moments. She was selfless and kind, always prioritizing others.

Beyond her professional life, Debra found solace in simple pleasures. She adored her dogs, who were loyal companions throughout her life. Her evenings were filled with games of fetch and spoiling them with treats. Debra was filled with joy when she had the opportunity to attend Bob Seger concerts, tapping her foot to the rhythm of his tunes. She also enjoyed the catching melodies of classical country music. And when the sun was shining on a summer day, you would find her swimming in the family pool.

Debra’s nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews were the light of her life and brought her great joy. The feeling was mutual, they adored their Aunt Debra.

Debra is survived by her husband, Doug Mollson; father, Donald Moses; sister, Donna Moses; brothers, Rick Moses, and Tony Moses; stepsister. Lori Ellison; stepbrothers, Gregg Noonan and Jeff Noonan; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lois Noonan and brother, David Moses. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Debra’s legacy lives on through the memories she created and the lives she touched.

Obituary Preview: David Lee Thebeau, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024. Dave was born in Toledo Ohio to James and Helen (Huebner) Thebeau on September 18, 1947.

Dave attended Roger’s High School and later served his country as a member of the armed forces after being drafted to the Army in 1968, during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he was a member of the American Legion in Holland, OH, and the Moose Lodge.

Before retiring, Dave worked as a supervisor at a steel plant. Outside work, he had a passion for woodworking, creating beautiful pieces with his hands. This skill extended to his time in the kitchen, where he enjoyed cooking meals from scratch.

Sports played a significant role in Dave’s life in his younger years. He grew up playing baseball, and enjoyed a game of pool, golf, and bowling. He was an OSU and Minnesota Vikings fan, cheering for both during every game.

Dave was very involved with his family and friends, and will be affectionately remembered as an “intimidating teddy bear”. Underneath a tough exterior, he had a heart of gold and cherished time with those he loved.

Left to cherish Dave’s memory are his wife, Jean Ann Thebeau; children, Jackie (J.J.) Speiser, and Edward (Christina) Thebeau; grandchildren, Hudson, Nathaniel, Jalen, Mikayla, and Megan; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings; and Best cat ever, Jimmy.

She then continued her career with Sylvania Steel as an office administrator. On September 12, 1964, Shirley married her loving husband, Thomas L. Mauder, and together had four wonderful children. In her spare time, Shirley enjoyed dominating Candy Crush on her iPad. Her unique sense of humor, quick wit, exceptional cooking skills, and card playing talents will never be matched.

Cheryl Ann Knisley - April 24, 1947 - March 16, 2024

Obituary Preview: Cheryl Ann Knisley, 76, of Swanton, Ohio passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at home with her loving husband of 43 years by her side. Cheryl and John were married in 1981 and went on to spend 43 years together raising their children and living life to the fullest. Cheryl was born April 24, 1947, to Robert Kimble & Betty Coger in Holland, Ohio. Cheryl was a beautiful majorette and band member at Springfield High School, graduating in 1965.

She was the life of the party and had a passion for entertaining family and friends. Cheryl was the “hostess with the mostess” and had many talents and interests. She had a severe sweet tooth and was known to always have a bowl of sweet treats in the kitchen, especially peanut M&M’s.

Harbor View Yacht Club was home for a number of years for Cheryl, John and their family, spending weekends on their boat “Nicely Done” with her and John serving as commodore and lady Cheryl in 1998.

She loved crafting, listening to her oldie’s music, and loved keeping a great flower bed. In her little bit of downtime, she was known to be found reading anything Danielle Steele.

Cheryl is survived by her devoted husband, John Knisley; children, Wade (Holly) Smith, Brianna (George) Damasco; stepdaughter Jennifer Muir, grandchildren, Harrison, Peyton, Hudson, Emelia, Emmalynn; and siblings, Gay Crabtree (late husband Chester) and Brad (Janet) Kimble. She is preceded in death by her parents and beloved son, William Andrew Smith.

He was born on November 7, 1957, to his parents Brent and Linda (Pankiw) Simmons in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. An adventurous traveler of the world, Doug had many passions, including cooking gourmet food, astronomy, antiquing, and meeting new people. He never met a stranger and had a gift of storytelling that kept listeners hanging on every word, and his stories grew larger with each retelling. He retired from a successful career as a salesperson in the automotive industry.

He met his wife Dawn at the University of Houston in 1975, and they enjoyed over 44 years of marriage together. They were everything to each other. Being a family man, Doug was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. Obituary Preview: Jo Ann (Lawson) Carter, age 80, fell asleep February 4, 2024, at Lakes of Sylvania with family by her side.

Born January 6, 1944, in Toledo, Ohio to John and Elizabeth Lawson, Joanne attended Woodard and Scott High School in Toledo. She dedicated her life as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was baptized in 1971. She married James H. Carter and they had four beautiful children together.

Joanne loved crocheting and baking. She was a very loving, caring, and giving person. She had several jobs over the years but retired from Toledo Public Schools after 25 years of service as a bus driver and radio dispatcher.

Joanne loved to make people happy when they requested her favorite dishes, such as homemade cornbread dressing, neckbones & rice, peach cobbler, and bread pudding just to name a few. She also had a beautiful singing voice and was very good at playing cards and dancing. Very important to her was sharing the beautiful Kingdom message of HOPE for the future with her family and anyone else she came into contact with.

Jo Ann (Lawson) Carter was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth Lawson; brothers, John Henry and Kendall Lawson; sisters, Carol Randall, Jerilyn Garrison, and Phyllis Lawson; and children, James D., Joseph, Jerrett, and Janelle Carter. James was a truck driver for 30 years and lived throughout the United States including Florida, Georgia, California, Arizona, and Ohio.

James was a former member of the Avengers Motorcycle Club and enjoyed riding his Harley with his wife, Stacey, and other club brothers. James had a passion for food. He grew his own peppers and loved spicy food, often competing with his mom to see who could better handle the heat. James enjoyed cooking and was amazing at his passions. In his younger years, he helped his mother with catering and cake decorating. James enjoyed spending time with his family, going to car shows, fishing, and enjoyed living life to its fullest. James was larger than life it self and was loved by many, he will be deeply missed.

In addition to his wife, Stacey, and mother, Linda (Gerry) Cope, James is survived by his children, Jayden, Zander, James Jr., Jazmyn, and Joanna Sutton; brothers, Darrel Carpenter and Dennis Cope; many nieces and nephews; and several pets. He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Sutton and brother, Michael Cope.

He loved doing yardwork, birdwatching, and spending time at the Metroparks which he supported and contributed to them. Alvin constructed the treehouse models that were used at Oak Openings Metroparks.

Kelsie was a true shining light in this world. When anyone was lucky enough to be near Kelsie, there was never anything less than a smile and a good time. She will be remembered for her riddles and hilarious jokes, contagious laughter, and resilience towards life's hurdles.

Kelsie’s family is left with a void in their heart that will never be filled, but because of her zeal for creating memories and being a shining light, they are able to remember her for all that she was and all the wild adventures they had together.

Sharon was born to Mary “Maxine” Vance and Paul Eugene Smith, March 17th 1942, in Wauseon, Ohio. She was a lifelong resident of Swanton, Ohio. She was a Class of 1960 graduate of Swanton High School. Sharon loved her first job as a car hop at Bee’s Drive-in. She was co-leader, leader and member of the board for Camp Fire Girls for 10 years.

Later, she spent many years working two jobs at Main Pharmacy and McDonalds. Eventually, she worked at the Medical College of Ohio (MCO) in the emergency room admitting. She went back to school for Pharmacy Technician and retired from MCO in that position.

Sharon loved to play canasta, dominoes and other card and board games. She loved to take day trips, especially to see the fall colors and Christmas lights. She loved taking care of people in anyway she could; especially her family members.

She loved going to the fairs and seeing her favorite country music artists. She will be remembered for her sense of fun, and the way she loved and cared about all of her friends and family.

Sharon was preceded in death by; her parents, Paul and Maxine Smith, her brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Anne Smith, her nephew Raymond Smith and her husband Kenneth Probst.

Sharon is survived by; her daughter Denise Haines, son Michael (Kathryn) Haines, niece Sheila (Kevin Webber) Smith, nephew Bennett (Marilou) Smith, and nephew Allan (Cathy Crippen) Smith.

A private graveside service for the family is planned for Saturday, February 24th, 2024 at 1pm.

She was a social butterfly, cherishing the companionship of neighbors and friends through all chapters of her life. Tammy was a lifelong lover of games (especially Euchre), never missing a chance to gather with friends at the Lakes of Monclova Villas for fellowship and happy hours. She often used her talent and creativity, handcrafting gifts for those she loved and selling them at local craft festivals. She was a lucky lady and enjoyed spending time with Danny at the casino. Geranda C Everly - January 03, 1941 - December 25, 2023

Obituary Preview: Geranda Clara Birch Everly received the best Christmas gift when Jesus reunited her with the love of her life, Darrell Robert Everly Sr. on Christmas evening. She was surrounded by her children and grandchildren at St. Anne's Hospital after an illness of RSV.

Geranda (Jean) was born January 3, 1941 to Charles Schuyler and Helen Lela (Neff) Birch in Logansport, Indiana. She was the second of four children. Harriett Joy (Frank) Hunt, Robert Dale, and Elizabeth (Betty) Etta (Henry) Basham. The family eventually moved to Toledo, Ohio during her childhood. She also spent time with an aunt and uncle in Georgia with many happy memories. On any beautiful summer day in Toledo, she would say, "This is a Georgia day". She loved summertime with the sunshine warm weather, and all of the flowers. She spent hours planting, watering, and weeding! We'd tease her by saying it was her therapy. She loved her roses, hibiscus, hydrangeas, and wave petunias, but then there was her herb garden! She had everything a good cook would want and then some, but I'm getting ahead of myself. Jean met Darrell through a friend in the neighborhood, she was a teenager attending Waite High School, and he was handsome in his Army uniform, it was love at first sight!

They were married on September 4th, 1956. Darrell had a few jobs in those early years. They soon had Diane Kay and Darrell Jr. (Rob). They moved a few times around the Toledo area as well as Riga and Luna Pier, Michigan. Then they took to the road, taking Route 66 to California. They lived in Compton until the death of her mother-in-law in October 1959. They settled back in Toledo, while Darrell worked for Chevy on Alexis Rd. Traves Dean came along, then Dana Marie and Brandy Kay. By that time Darrell and Jean bought a house in Holland, Ohio (later they moved to Sylvania, Ohio). They raised their kids and became close friends with the neighbors and the couples that they worked with. They enjoyed neighborhood parties, bunco groups, book clubs, and macrame. They often took their family camping and fishing. Jean was also an artist. She could draw, paint, and write poetry that was even published in a book and in The Toledo Blade! She and Darrell also enjoyed country music and going out dancing.

Once their children started getting married and having children of their own Jean fell into her role as Nana as if she was born for it. She could make up stories for them changing her voice for each character or giving the characters Irish accents, as well as making up songs and lullabies. Her grandchildren remember doing crafts with her, playing on the deck, riding up and down the long driveway, sewing, crocheting, and all the million other things she did to make their childhoods wonderful.

Throughout the years, when needed, Jean worked part-time jobs at candle shops, waitressing and even watch repair, from about 1968 to 1973 she worked as a Machinist at Berndy Corporation, but her favorite role was Homemaker.

Jean didn't go to college per sé, but audited classes at Toledo University and Lourdes College. She was an avid reader of biographies and memoirs, but the occasional novel piqued her interest.

She was keenly interested in our family tree and genealogy. She and Darrell or she and her daughters took trips researching both her and Darrell's ancestry. She was also quite talented in planning and hosting family reunions. She always did it all with love.

In 1996, Jean and Darrell renewed their vows in a beautiful ceremony for their fortieth anniversary. She looked beautiful in her off-white tea-length dress. Darrell said she was as beautiful as the day they met. In June 2004 her Love went home to Jesus and has waited patiently for her. In the years since his leaving she ached for him. She reluctantly learned how to live alone with her kids and grandkids coming to visit, but longed for Darrell. She did learn to keep in touch with friends on Facebook, play Scrabble online, and navigate an iPhone! She also loved traveling. She went to the Bahamas, TN, IN, IL, and on women's retreats with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, brother, and 16 of 17 of Darrell's brothers and sisters, along with their wives and husbands. They were all very special to her and she missed them with all of her heart.

She leaves behind her children Diane (Robert) Bethel, Rob (Sara) Everly, Traves (Karen) Everly, Dana (Bob) Quednau, and Brandy (Jeff) Hall.

She leaves behind her grandchildren Bradley Richard (Tracy), Brett Darrell (Amy), Blake Robert, and Brian Alexander Bethel, Emily Jane (Michael) Bretelson and Ross Birch Everly, Jessica Nicole (Patrick) Latvala, Lauren Danielle (Justin) Donovan, and Traves Everly Jr (TJ) and their mother who never stopped being a dear "daughter-in-heart", Nancy (Doug) Jackson, Robert Shane (Erika), Landon Karl, and Levi Tyler (Celina) Quednau, Lydia Anne Everly, Anna Elizabeth Everly-Ricker, and Chloe Junia (CJ) Ricker.

She leaves behind her great-grandchildren Flannery Henderson Bethel, Kennedy Rae and Keaton Jack Bethel, Stella Jane, and Tucker Michael Bretelson, Izabella Nicole and Jayden Michael Latvala, Aidan Laurel, Brenna Claire, and Callan Elaine Donovan, and Robert Cody, Piper Cheyenne, and Payton Grace Quednau.

She also leaves behind a dear sister-in-law and best friend, Constance (Connie) Ruth (Everly) Eaton, and many, many nieces nephews and grand nieces, and nephews.

Services are provided by Walker Funeral Home, Airport Hwy. Viewing will be Friday, December 29 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Funeral/Celebration of Life will begin at noon at the Holland Free Methodist Church 6605 Angola Rd. followed by graveside services at Springfield Township Cemetery Airport Hwy. There will be a luncheon afterward at the church.

Janet was born September 5. 1941 in Genoa, Ohio to Edilbert and Theodora (Engle) Romstadt. She worked as a nurses aid for over 30 years at Genoa Care Center and Luther Homes. She was the care giver of the family.

Janet was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and enjoyed playing bingo, reading, and fishing. She especially loved to challenge her sisters and nieces at card games and Yahtzee. She was an Ohio State Football fan as well as Notre Dame.

She is survived by her siblings, Margaret Wilds, Dennis (Linda) Romstadt, and Geraldine Oster as well as several nieces and nephews. Janer was lovingly referred to as Nana by her many nieces and nephews. She was like a mother to us. Janet was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Kathleen Heebsh.

Friends and family will be received Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 10-11 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church, 215 E.
