Wait Ross Allanson Funeral & Cremation Service Chapel, 201 S. Main St. is in care of arrangements. 847-658-4232. ED OSLANCE LIFELONG CATHOLIC
His parents were devout Catholics. He went to a Catholic grade school. Never missed a mass on Sunday, even when traveling. Attended Sunday Communion services while at assisted living facility. He was a Cub Master, fundraiser, coach, volunteer, and worker for numerous parish youth programs. Right up to his last days, Ed spoke of the “Almighty Lord” and how grateful he was to God for his life, his beloved Carol, and the many members of his family. FAMILY MAN He told relatives that he and wife Carol would have 100 kids! (They had 6.) He worked long hours, and his wife managed the home/ bill paying. Despite the pressure of sales/ commission jobs, Ed also worked to run or assist many parish-related events for his children. As a grandparent, he and Carol attended numerous events for the grandkids. The highlight of the family events: for over 20 years, a weeklong trip to a cottage in northern Wisconsin. Fishing, BBQ, endless card games, sun and fun that enthralled his adult kids, grandkids, and Uncle Ron/ Aunt Barbara’s kids as well! THE OZZIE OPEN & “THE BIG O”
Ed and Carol hosted a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for their sons Doug (Ozzie) and Gary. Endless brats, burgers, corn, appetizers, and beverages that included players, wives, their kids, and (sometimes) raucous time that went from noon to almost midnight! The food preparations lasted almost a week prior to the event. This extravaganza, more than anything else, cemented into place Ed’s nickname as the “Big O.” In fact, on the basketball backboard was stenciled: BIG O STADIUM. THE MAN WHO COULD SELL ANYTHING Hostess cupcakes, Seal-a-Matic cookware, Stella Doro Italian bread sticks and cookies, American Greeting Cards…you name it, he could sell it. His endless energies (he made more stops to vendors in a single day than could be imagined) his creative selling techniques, and his dedication to the vendor AND the customer…made Ed a salesman who exceeded his “forecast” every year! In a greeting card industry that destroyed old cards and fixtures…he kept them, repurposed them, and personally lugged them to prospective clients and used them as samples of how to merchandise/sell/ succeed. He had his own warehouse (first, our garage and later, an actual outlet) to store his supplies and mastermind his operation. He went on to utilize his visionary talents by opening card shops in shopping malls. His relentless goal: to surpass his competitor, Hallmark ( a word that could not be uttered in our house.) THE MAN WHO COULD RAISE MONEY FOR KIDS! When Ed became Cub Scout Leader, he faced a lack of funds. He brought a huge semi-trailer to the church parking lot grounds and told the bewildered cub scouts/ den mothers that we would fill the semi by collecting old newspapers and magazines. Everyone thought he was crazy…until the effort filled that semi and made a nice profit. Ed was undaunted…he ordered 2 semi-trucks…and they were filled. Ed persuaded a carnival vendor (in our neighborhood) to help and lo and behold…huge profits were made at a large summer carnival! When Ed moved to Hoffman Estates, he helped a local high school to start fundraisers (carnival and grapefruit sales) that funded lights for a football stadium! THE MAN WHO HELPED “THE GOOD SISTERS” Left over cards, candles, and other materials that were designated for being thrown out were recycled by Ed to a group of nuns…who sold them to people visiting the retirement facility they conducted. Ed carried on this program (and also assisted a Catholic high school in which his son worked) for almost a decade! MR. ED, THE STERN & BUS DRIVER Who retires from the grueling work/hours of sales (some 40 years) and then becomes a school bus driver for almost 15-18 MORE years??? Ed not only ran a tight “bus” but had many, many families that gave him cards and gifts at the end of each year. He was driving school bus and charter trips until he was 85 years old---often venturing into downtown Chicago for field trips and charters! Who---on earth---could keep up such a schedule…up to age 85??? THE BIG O HAD A LIFE WELL LIVED. HE LOVED CAROL AND HIS KIDS WITH A PASSION AND DEDICATION THAT ALMOST DEFIES DESCRIPTION. As Jesus might say, he served others and loved people with ALL of his mind, heart, energy, and soul. He served God with every ounce of his being! Rest well! We all love you!

Bonnie Kay Lancaster - July 25, 1946 - March 02, 2023

Departed: 03/02/2023 (Algonquin)
Obituary Preview: On March 2, 2023, Bonnie Lancaster, of Lake in the Hills, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 76. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and everyone who knew her.
Bonnie was born on July 25, 1946. She was the devoted mother to her daughter, Jackie, and her son, Gary, as well as her stepchildren Eddie, Terry, Sue, and Bobby.
Bonnie was a brilliantly talented seamstress who spent more than 50 years of her life sewing and creating the most magnificent things – everything from furniture upholstery to home décor to window treatments, to clothing. Everyone who knew and loved her has numerous creations of hers in their homes to this day. She was truly an artist with fabric who knew just how to cut, stitch, drape, and shape something flat into something stunningly beautiful.
Every child, niece, nephew, grandchild, and great-grandchild in the family was blessed with her handmade gifts – clothing, quilts and blankets, to pillows to tote bags, and more – many from birth throughout adulthood. Even in retirement, she never stopped sewing. We are so grateful to literally be able to wrap ourselves up and feel her love and presence around us through the incredible things that she made and infused with her seemingly-limitless talent and love.
Bonnie enjoyed taking casino trips, both with her family and her best friend of more than 40 years, Linda. Bonnie and Linda first met at Roxy Wheels roller rink in Dundee in the 1970s and bonded over their shared love of roller skating and casino games. Both Bonnie and Linda found gambling immensely entertaining and fun, and they took countless road trips to their favorite casinos around the country. (Truthfully, we tried to estimate how many trips, but we lost count after 77.)
Bonnie also enjoyed fishing and took many trips up north over the years. Her photo albums are filled with pictures of her many catches of the day from numerous cabin camping trips throughout her life, particularly the years her children were still at home. These trips always became competitions to see who was going to catch what, and how many fish everyone would catch. So many irreplaceable family memories were made while fishing.
Bonnie was passionate about helping the people in her life, and she fiercely, deeply cared for those she loved. She was the kind of person that you knew that you could call for help, and she would be immediately make herself available to be there, give advice, or just make you cookies. (And she did make the best cookies too.) Her generosity poured out of her in a very palpable way.
It is incredibly difficult to think about our lives without her in them. She was a vibrant, energetic person to be around with a wildly funny sense of humor and a presence that left a permanent impression on everyone she knew well.
Some of her great-nieces and nephews bestowed the title of “Great Aunt Bonnie” upon her years ago, with the emphasis on that word. She relished this title, often signing birthday cards and notes with “GREAT” in capital letters as cheerful reminder to everyone of just how amazing she was. Bonnie is survived by her children, Jackie (Stuart) Joergens and Gary Lancaster; her stepchildren
Eddie Lancaster, Terry Lancaster, and Suzanne Natter, who she also loved as her own. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Ratzlaff, and her stepson, Bobby Lancaster.
Additionally, she is survived by two grandchildren: Samantha (Micah) Wright and Tara Joergens, and two great-granddaughters, Ella and Evelynn Wright. She is also survived by her sister, Judy (Dale) Maxwell, and her extended family, which includes numerous nieces, nephews, and their children.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. on Monday March 6, 2023 at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral Chapel, 201 S. Main St., Algonquin. Burial will follow at Algonquin Cemetery. For information call 847-658-4232 or www.lairdfamilyfuneralservices.com.
