Obituary Preview: Marian M. Kottke was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.  She passed away on April 22, 2022, at the age of 82 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by a constant stream of loving family and friends. She was even blessed to enjoy her last Easter celebration surrounded by more than 70 family members.
She was born to Clarence and Madelia Hanson on November 17, 1939, in Wausau, WI. She almost never turned down a trip to the casino (even winning a few hundred dollars on her last family casino trip just a few weeks ago) and constantly received scratch-off tickets as gifts from her family.
The thing she cherished most of all was quality time spent with family and friends, whether it was going to church, attending family get-togethers, baking sweet rolls with her grandchildren, or enjoying her girls’ night out. Her smile and snort-filled laughter will be deeply missed at all these gatherings.
Marian leaves behind her children Terry (Joan) Kottke, Tamara Kottke, Kevin (Kim) Kottke, Brad (Debbie) Kottke, Kent (Laura) Kottke, Audra (Daniel) Kalepp, Craig (Trisha) Kottke, and Corey (Stephany) Kottke; three siblings John (Joan) Hanson, Sue (Clarence) Degner, and Darrell (Marion) Dehlinger; 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren (plus two more on their way) and many brother and sister in-laws and nieces and nephews. Carol J. Ward - August 02, 1947 - April 08, 2022

Departed: 04/08/2022 (Merrill)
Obituary Preview: Carol Jean (Krause) Ward, age 74, passed away on April 8, 2022. Carol was born in Merrill to Clarence and Grace (Sukow) Krause on August 2, 1947. She was received into God’s kingdom of grace through the waters of Holy Baptism at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill, on August 24, 1947, attended Trinity School, and was confirmed in 1961. She met Richard Ward, and the two exchanged marriage vows on November 2, 1974. These dates highlight important milestones in her life, but let’s talk about who Carol really was.
During Carol’s early years, she was fortunate enough to be a stay-at-home mom, raising her babies. Carol was the best cook; her bacon-and-noodle hotdish and up-country egg recipe were frequent requests; her milk soup could cure any ailment.  She always made sure to have nuts-and-bolts available for her children, grandchildren and now, great-grandchildren.
She was actively involved in both Trinity School and Trinity Church, chaperoning field trips, teaching Saturday School and as a member of the Altar Guild. Once her children were properly raised, she went on to work at Carl’s Foodlane and then Johnsons of Merrill until she retired.
Over the years, she single handedly kept QVC in business.
Carol hosted legendary cribbage tournaments for the family every Christmas and Easter since 2006, but sadly only won four of them.
She did not tolerate lies…few have tried and those brave enough to do so, failed.
Carol loved to garden. Each year, she and Rich would spend a great deal of time buying seeds and mapping the layout of the vegetables. If the harvest was abundant, she would share with family, friends and neighbors, but she never was able to grow squash.
She was always up for a good time, whether it was road trips to the casino with Rich, buying trips with the ladies from Johnsons or playing in bar cribbage tournaments and accidently drinking one too many bloody marys. The stories about Carol are many, from her warnings about drinking Moscow mules to almost burning the house down one Christmas.
She was loved and will be missed so very much.
Carol is survived by her husband, Rich, and 3 children, Brian (Becky) Daley, Rob (Gail) Daley and Beth (Jason) Weinkauf; 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and sibling, Al (Mary Lou) Krause and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Reno Krause and nephews David Krause and Keith Krause.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill, WI. Rev. Scott Gustafson will officiate. Visitation will be held that same day from 9:00 am until the time of service, also at the church.  Burial of her cremated remains will take place at Snow Hill Cemetery immediately following the service.
The family wishes to thank Interim Hospice for their care and support shown to Carol and the family during her last days.

Departed: 03/10/2022 (Merrill)
Obituary Preview: Stanley Allen Wiederhoeft, age 84, of the town of Hamburg, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, March 10, 2022.  He was born on February 26, 1938, to the late Martin and Edna (Schoenherr) Wiederhoeft at the Memorial Hospital in Wausau. He attended and graduated from Merrill Senior High School with the class of 1956 and went on to attend NTC in the Farm Training Program on April 20, 1978.  Stanley joined the US Army National Guard – Red Arrow Division – and proudly served from 1959-1964.  He was stationed in Fort Louis, Yakima, Washington from 1961-1962.  Stanley married the love of his life and best friend, Lorraine Kopplin, on March 21, 1970, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rib Falls, a marriage lasting nearly 52 years.  Together they raised 4 children on their farm in the town of Hamburg.
Stanley was a hard-working man who was a self-employed dairy farmer for 51 years, until the age of 79 years old.  He farmed alongside his wife for 47 of those years.  In his younger years, he worked for Woller Brothers, and he also worked for Heiser Ready-Mix as a cement truck driver while farming.  He was always willing to help a neighbor whenever they needed.  He was proud of owning a century old farm – an award given to them in 1973.  The family farm has been in the Wiederhoeft family for 149 years with Stanley being the 4th generation to farm alongside his family.  His family always came first.  Stanley was very proud of his children and grandchildren.  He always looked forward to watching his grandsons little league games and their concerts throughout the years.
Stanley loved being outside working in the field with his wife, working in the woods, and cutting firewood with his family.  He liked watching sports – especially the Brewers, Cubs and Packers.  Stanley liked bird and rabbit hunting with his hunting dogs in his younger years and deer hunting with his sons and grandsons.  He loved telling deer hunting stories from years ago about hunting in Newood.  No matter what time of year it was, if there were deer out in his fields, he had the binoculars out to watch them.  Stanley also loved listening to polka music and watching westerns on TV.  During the summer months for the last few years, he would take rides with the UTV around the farm checking out the crops, checking for deer or looking for trees in the woods that needed to be cut for firewood.  Stanley will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
Stanley leaves behind his wife: Lorraine Wiederhoeft of Hamburg, 2 daughters: Lori Wiederhoeft and Dixie Wiederhoeft, both of Hamburg, 2 sons: Chris (Jennifer) Wiederhoeft and Michael (Rebecca) Wiederhoeft, both of Merrill, 5 grandsons: Austin, Darrin, Matthew, Brayden and Mason, 1 granddaughter: Kaitlyn, sister and brother-in-law: JoAnn (Lyle) Mathwich, sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Joanne (Charles) Zahn and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law: Jenine (Robert) Bonke, father and mother in-law: Franklin and Irma (Hanke) Kopplin, sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Mary Ellen (Orville) Krueger and many cousins and friends.

James George - July 12, 1944 - March 03, 2022

Departed: 03/03/2022 (Merrill)
Obituary Preview: Our beloved James “Jim” George, age 77, passed peacefully at home from this life into Glory on March 3, 2022. His family was by his side. Jim was born in Columbia, South Carolina to William and Eloise (nee Howell) George. Jim had many aunts, uncles and cousins growing up and had fond memories of their get-togethers with pig pickin’, shucked oysters, “bald” (boiled) peanuts and other wonderful Southern food. He also loved spending summers with a childless couple who were friends of the family, helping them bring in their crops. Jim would tell us that while working in the fields on terribly hot summer days, there were so many watermelons around that he would often just crack one open to drink the juice to cool off and wash his hands.
Jim graduated from Eau Claire High School in Columbia in 1962. He earned an associate degree from Midlands Technical College. Jim worked for a civil engineering firm surveying traffic patterns. Later on he had to make a decision for his career path.  His brother Fred was already working for the US Geological Survey and encouraged Jim to apply. He joined his brother at the Survey and worked there from 1967-1997. Jim married Trudy Laffer in 1967 and they shared four children. Jim had an opportunity for a promotion and the family moved to Merrill, WI in 1975.  He loved fishing there and the change of seasons. He learned to endure the winters. In 1989 Jim married Susan LaMarche. Jim welcomed Sue’s grown son, John, into the family. Jim and Sue had 32 blessed years together until his passing. In recent years, Jim was thrilled with the arrival of grandchildren and was able to meet the youngest one born just six weeks ago. Jim was a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Jim loved family time and it was great if one or more of the children could watch a Green Bay Packer game with him. He loved to watch all football but especially those Packers! Jim also belonged to a couple of coffee groups and always looked forward to the camaraderie with his friends. Jim was known for his gentle nature; his steadfast faith in our Lord; his southern twang which identified him on the phone to many Merrill folks before he even told them his name; his utmost honesty; and his hearty appetite. Some of his favorite foods were grits with butter and cheese, Shealy’s BBQ, DQ cake, Hoppin’ John and collards. Jim loved to take long walks, and he appreciated the simple things in life. His faith was important to him, and he was a member of Bible Presbyterian Church for over 40 years. Jim was also a deacon for over 15 years and the building treasurer for many years. He enjoyed working with his hands, and after retirement from the Survey he worked part-time finishing wood on antique organs. Jim loved tools, and it was important to own the right tool for the job.  He had a keen interest in anything mechanical and just needed to know or figure out “how things worked.” He was great at telling stories and had many to share. Jim loved cars and often knew the type of engine in a car he saw on the highway as well as its model year. He once owned an Austin Healy which he dearly loved.
Jim will be sorely missed by his wife Susan and children: Ceree of Long Prairie, MN; Clinton of Wyocena, WI; Nathan of St. Paul, MN; Mitchell (Carolyn) of Oregon, WI and stepson John of Schofield, WI. He is further survived by grandchildren Esther and Adelaide, Louisa and Atlas. He was preceded in death by his father, William “Bill”; mother, Eloise; brother, Fred; niece, Dawn, and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins, all of whom he dearly loved.
The family thanks the members of Bible Presbyterian Church and others who have faithfully prayed for Jim through the years as he endured a number of heart surgeries and procedures. We thank Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice for their caring services, especially his nurse, Tina, who made it possible for Jim to stay at home through his final days.
A public visitation will be held on Friday, March 11th at 11:00-noon CST at Bible Presbyterian Church with the service at noon and a luncheon to follow. Pastor Andy Perry will officiate. All are invited to attend. The service will be live-streamed on the Bible Presbyterian
Church-Merrill, Wisconsin Facebook page with the title of Jim George’s Funeral. Memorials may be given to Bible Presbyterian Church 1605 Hwy G, Merrill, WI 54452.There will be a separate service for Jim in Lexington, South Carolina at a later date where he will be laid to rest with his father.

Shortly before passing Ron was visited by his 3 sons, Dan, Adam, Brad, and loving granddaughter Amanda.  We, his sons, would like to believe hearing us boys laughing and swapping stories and laughing even more about our different experiences with our father over the years reminded him how much he meant to ALL of us and the impact he has left upon all of our lives… Hearing our laughter and love, forever the family protector, his mind was finally at peace knowing we were ALL going to be all right, he was finally able to drift off and enter Jesus’s Arms. Rest in the Peace you so rightly deserve…AMEN
He was born on June 23, 1940, to the late Harold and Pearl (Barr) Hirte in Pembine, Wisconsin.
On September 10, 1960, Ronald married Patricia “Pat” Ann Beyer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Ron battled dementia near end of life, yet he always knew who the love of his life was, often referring to her as “Granny.”
